This was another donation to my Little Free Library Shed that I wasn’t sure I would read. But I really needed a distraction read before my biopsy of my tumor/mass that would have me sedated. (As an aside, I happily survived the procedure!)
This is one of the cutest rom-com’s I have had the pleasure to read. I am truly swooning. And, placing a hand over my heart ♥️. Even though there is a bit of we-have-been-here-before and predictability, the story is told in such a way that readers can’t help but want to root for the 2 mains.
Franny has just been let go from her job because of necessary reductions. Heading out to the New York subway towards home, she can’t help but feel this is the worst day of her life. Only to be made worst when her dress gets caught in the subway doors and tears enough that anybody can “see” a lot of her! Frantic, embarrassed and befuddled by this latest horrible thing to happen to her in one day, Hayes Montgomery the Third comes to her rescue and offers his Gucci jacket to cover her.
Not before long, the two seem to have a way of running into each other, and being further embarrassed by their sudden social media attention. Of course, someone would photograph and video the 2 in this crazy unseemly, but interesting looking intimate moment!
With such an unorthodox, but seemingly auspicious beginning, will these 2 be destined to a happily-ever-after?
With a great supporting cast, and the New York area as background, this rom-com is worth spending some time with on any day of the week. Especially with our two awkward, and likable characters, Franny and Hayes. But there will also be more in the cast that will be worth following, too. ...more

So, what happens when so much has occurred in your life which brings on guilt and grief and keeps you from believing you are entitled to a happily-ever-after?
Well, you live the life of Darcy and Carter. Who just happen to find one another in the most interesting way, with so many parallel life experiences, that they don’t necessarily share with each other.
Will they find a way to open up to one another? And, will they be able to come to terms with their complicated past and present, and allow themselves to experience their own happily-ever-after?
So, with these questions in mind (no spoilers from me), let’s just consider that this is what makes this rom-com so readable....more

Don’t you just love a title of a book that perfectly defines itself? A Meet-Cute. And magical on“I can’t imagine how there was ever a me without her.”
Don’t you just love a title of a book that perfectly defines itself? A Meet-Cute. And magical on top of it!! Yes, it is. But not exactly in the way we as readers would expect it. Because, Faye our main, is a mess. Her 10-year relationship, with only 3 months before the wedding, was broken off by her fiancé, Stuart. And, she has a past that reeks with a lot of broken-ness.
So, what is she to do?
Well, readers meet her at her place where she lives and works as a ceramicist. She also has a dog she rescued named Hillel who is quite messy, too. She lives in a contemporary Jewish neighborhood that has now been attacked by racist anti-Semitic flyers and other acts of violence.
So, what could possibly go wrong now?
Instead of heading off to the community meeting to discuss the flyers and determine a community action plan to find who is behind these vicious attacks, she gets herself drunk on the wedding wine and makes herself a pottery Golem.
A Golem you ask? According to the Rabbi, a Golem is an undeveloped substance of the earth, created entirely from inanimate matter, usually clay or mud. And, that is exactly what she creates and buries in her garden while drunk. I know I repeated myself, but this is an important point.

The next day, still recovering from her drunken rampage in the garden, Faye rushes off on her bicycle to her friend’s place. But because she is not paying attention, Faye hits Greg with her bicycle and he ends up in the hospital with amnesia.
What is Faye to do now? Could Greg be her Golem?
Well, she kind of adopts him, and lets him stay with her in hopes he can regain his memory. And of course, readers wonder, will this ‘magical meet-cute’ bring these two together? And, who is Greg really? Will he ever recover his memory, and if he does, what will Faye and readers discover about him?
Also, will Faye ever have her happily-ever-after-ending? And, what about Greg – will he?
“You don’t see that something doesn’t need to be perfect to be loveable.”
And, what about the Paper Boys who are spreading all this hate? Who is behind this hate cell? Will this mystery be solved?
You didn’t think I was going to answer all these questions, did you?

Yes, it is another book from superstar entertainer and entrepreneur, Dolly, this time with her sister, Rachel in which they share more than 80 recipes that can be cooked throughout the year. Laid out as “A Year in Meals,” they include dishes that are especially seasonal and festive. And, easy to make and appreciate.
This beautifully photographed cookbook is appealing in so many ways. First, the easy to make recipes, and seeing Dolly doing what she loves – sharing with us. To look at the pictures displaying the food will make one salivate, hoping the easy directions will make it taste as good as the picture. But they also tell us why the book is important to them; and, provide helpful hints.
As we plan our Thanksgiving meal this year, it was nice to have this cookbook display all the dishes possible for one’s dinner table. We can’t help but look forward to what is to come, recognizing the ease in which the directions guide those interested in duplicating the possibilities presented here, into our own wonderful meal.
We also can’t help but feel a sense of connection, as we read the notes shared about the authors traditions and lives. Their sharing of their own cherished memories, makes it possible for readers to enjoy the food recipes that are presented to us to “try.”

Through pictures and words, children will have the opportunity to learn how humans and wild animals interacted. And how the humans, in creating a safe environment to allow this owl to eventually grow up and be an owl, she could find and create her own family.
Apparently, this is the second in a series featuring Alfie. Since I haven’t read the first book yet, I am not sure it is necessary to read that one in order to appreciate this one. I have gone ahead and ordered the first book from my local library, “Alfie & Me: what owls know, what humans believe.” I will keep you posted.

Even though the target audience for this book is middle-school age, it is easily readable for adults. As readers, we can’t help but root for Ellie. Ellie is resilient and proves to be a wonderful role model for all kids. Her character also serves as a delightful teaching tool for helping kids understand that dis-eases, even cerebral palsy, do not need to define the person.

This is the book that found its story in a very unique way. It started with social media. Upworthy. A media brand that focused on positive storytelling. Their intention was always to shine lights on the best of humanity, and usually it would start with a simple question…like…
“What’s the kindest thing a stranger has ever done for you?”
And, people responded. With their own stories. Sharing what was in their heart, based on their experiences. Eventually, they decided why not take this theme, and create a project that will create a book. And, that is how this book came to be.

They settled on 6 themes that were laid out into chapters. And, these chapters would feature stories based on those themes. The kindest of strangers. Learn by the heart. It’s the little things. The kids are all right. When I needed it most. Away from home.
Throughout the chapters, they would showcase a “spotlight.” Which would typically be someone sharing something that happened to them.

To top it off, nobody knows who she is. She has never identified herself as the writer of these popular books. In fact, there is even a billionaire offering money to anybody who can identify the author. That would be the worst thing that could happen, as far as Libby is concerned.
In the meantime, how is she going to finish her book? She has no family. No friends. Just her dog, Rook.

How best to describe this book?...
Funny, complicated, riveting, delightful, engaging, heart-felt and heart-wrenching. All the feels. The only part that bored me was the “fantasy-story” inside the story. But that could be just me, because that is not my preferred genre. It may be more appealing to those who do. Other than that, the story has amazing character development and a sweet story that will undoubtedly engage readers.

Cecilia has just turned 70+ and is feeling quite detached from her life. She has been a widow of famous author Cameron for a year, and is tired of being under the thumb of her daughter Kristen. While Kristen has planned a party, supposedly to celebrate Cecilia’s birthday, but mostly to honor her famous Dad, Cecilia sneaks out and heads for her secret place, Dune Cottage to hide away. But what about Seth? How does he play into this story? Will Cecilia be able to find her happily ever after?
Todd, who is Cecilia’s grandson has found his own way, despite his family’s wealth. But something isn’t quite right for him either. He adores his grandmother, and is concerned for her. And, did he make the right decision about Amelie? Will he be able to find his happily ever after?
So, we have 3 very likable characters who are attempting to find themselves, and perhaps something that has been alluding them in their lives. How will these lives intersect, especially as Cecilia finds Lily at Dune Cottage? And, Todd suddenly showing up?
And, of course there is Kristen, too. Will she be able to find her happily ever after?
And, what about the art? What Lily wants for herself? Or, what Cecilia gave up in herself? What secrets does Cecelia hold as it relates to “The Girl on the Shore?”
The author presents a peaceful calm Cape ocean setting. It allows readers to connect to the characters and feel hopeful that whatever happens, whether it is predictable or not, the pages turn in a way that makes one feel a sense of gratification that they just had a truly lovely reading experience....more

But unfortunately, one of her clients is found dead, and her brother is accused of the murder. What will happen to her business now? And, does this mean she becomes a bit of an investigator, too? In some ways this drags the story down a bit, as does her dysfunctional family.
There are so many characters to keep track of in this story that it becomes difficult at times to know who is who. Yet, the premise of a yoga studio with kitties for adoption seemed sweet. Still, it will be hard to imagine what other trouble could occur in future stories for this series. If it involves her family members, that may not be worth following.

Yesterday, I picked this one up on my weekly visit to my local library. And, I was pleasantly surprised by the simplicity of it.
This is a story…that tYesterday, I picked this one up on my weekly visit to my local library. And, I was pleasantly surprised by the simplicity of it.
This is a story…that takes few words. But those few words and charming illustrations show the importance of reading, libraries and books. It is so beautifully written, I felt myself mesmerized as I turned pages slowly. And, as I looked at the pictures, I imagined what each child must be feeling as they studied and experienced the pages, and read the words, or had them read for them, before turning to the next page.
Honestly, this one is a keeper, parents! Teachers, please include this one in your classroom, because this truly…is a story worth reading!

When I saw this book in the children’s section at my local library, I was immediately attracted to it for 3 reasons.
First, it was the book title. I hWhen I saw this book in the children’s section at my local library, I was immediately attracted to it for 3 reasons.
First, it was the book title. I have always believed that we all have this innate power within us – this light that emanates outwardly to others. And, for a book to be able to showcase this through a title, especially in a children’s book, this seemed particularly powerful to me.
Second, the book cover illustration showed smiling faces with the illusion of light surrounding them. I found such positivity in those illustrations by Kamala Nair.
And, third because I was going on my own personal journey with cancer, and even though this was “just” a children’s book, who wouldn’t enjoy having positivity and light within surrounding them on “such” a journey?
Which made this a book, that felt strangely powerful. Because here I was feeling all these feelings connecting me to this book, and, I am just looking at the book cover. And, I didn’t even open the pages yet!
What would this lovely book share inside?

When life feels uncertain, as it did for Ali, all she needed to do was take herself and her dog, Ferris to the dog park. Little did she know that Ferris might change everything by lifting his leg onto Ethan’s shoe and creating a new beginning for her.
Embarrassing right? But an opening, too!
Readers will get to know Ali as she grapples with grief, with the loss of her marriage, with raising her kids on her own, with possibly finding love again – or is it for the first time? There is a subtleness to the romance with Ethan and the discovery to Ali finding herself that is sweet. We can also appreciate her traversing her grief, the loss of her Mom and, the good neighbor vibes.
And, yet this beginning really opened doors to creating a confidence she didn’t realize she had. Maybe it would enable her to recognize that as a single Mom she already had what she needed and wanted to find something more for herself, for her kids, for her community, for her friends, for her family, that was that something more that was missing while she was still in her marriage with Pete.
“When I’m quiet I can hear my heart yearning for impossible things. I want a perfectly pared-down home, and I want to hang on to every scrap of the past. I want a break from my kids without missing a single minute of their lives. I long for a partnership, and I long for freedom. I long to be enmeshed with someone without losing myself. There was something engaging about both Ali and Ethan’s characters, as well as all the supporting ensemble cast, which made it a thoughtful rom-com, summer romance. As readers, you can’t help but root for everyone and hope that they will experience some type of happy ending....more
