As these things go, some were wonderful, and some were not. The ones that resonated with me dealt with Howard and Paulie as we followed them from courtship to Covid. The last story in the collection was one of the best things I have read in the last few years. Bravo!...more

This is a sequel to Chocolat which I haven't read. Some of the secondary characters are not well-defined, but Zozie, Vianne, Annie, Rosette, and Roux are memorable. I loved the elements of magical realism that wove into the story and the triumphant end. Must see what else this author has done. ...more

In Erway's journey to becoming a person who chooses cooking at home over spending all her disposable income at restaurants, we all can learn something. The pandemic changed many of us in that same fashion. Many of the mom-and-pop restaurants locally couldn't stand up to the challenge. A major shift in thinking about food....more

I didn't expect this to be a graphic novel. It was simply page after page of stacked book drawings with a little text about a particular type of book. At first, I thought I would find lots of titles to add to my to-be-read list, but most of the things I wanted to read had already been read years before. Still, this is a valuable book. If you're a casual reader, you might find titles you haven't read or have missed in your reading life. Give it a try....more

This one was strange to me. The characters never came to life. Abby had no direction in life. She had come to terms with her size but was stuck in adolescence when it came to everything else. Her home was a temporary resting place. Her job was unfulfilling. The only thing she had going for her was her relationship with Mark (and she wasn't happy or fulfilled with the prospect of that becoming permanent). Enter Sebastian, a typical chick-lit hero, flawed but fabulous. Abby leads a bike tour for two weeks and during this time, she completely revamps her life. She champions a young girl in distress though she abandons her to other people to follow Sebastian on a foolish quest. Abby's mother's revelation toward the end of the book was the only part I found interesting....more
