I'm going to say right off the bat that my lack of enjoyment of this book was entirely a me problem. If you are a person who enjoys science, engineeriI'm going to say right off the bat that my lack of enjoyment of this book was entirely a me problem. If you are a person who enjoys science, engineering and math with some snarky humor and pop culture references mixed in you will love this book. I'm not that person. This would have been an easy DNF for me if it hadn't been one of my 12 recs from 12 friends for the year (sorry!)...I will say I'm glad that I finished it because I'm still on a journey of figuring out what I do and do not enjoy in books and now I can say with certainty that I do not enjoy the sci-fi genre.
Every time the narrator began explaining his math or engineering processes in great detail my eyes glazed over. It was just not a good time for me personally. The story itself was good but all of the nitty gritty scientific details just made it impossible to me to get into.
It was recommended to me to listen to the audio and I'm glad that I did. The narrator was fantastic and it made the science easier to ingest.
Something happened at the very end that I found extremely gross...but the last paragraph was sweet and brought the story full circle which is something I always enjoy in books.
I can honestly say I'm glad this is over. Sorry if that's harsh! Again...it's not you, it's me!...more
