In the book there is a prominent Irish character...and the audiobook narrator gave a really generic Irish accent that definitely over stayed it's welcome...like Box O Lucky Charms level of bad Irish voice...it really annoyed me!...more

Pretty cool premise, main character and the barista next door were fast friends and had a nice rapport, everyone else just felt flat. The main characters reason for moving her life felt pretty bland, especially since it didn't seem to REALLY bother her, even when it's expanded upon later in the book. The solution to the problem felt confusing and weak....more

When I realized this was more of a YA book I considered dropping it, but I damn it Daryl can hook me right away!
It's a fun book and I'll be interested to read more in the series as it progresses. I was a little disappointed tho. The main character does very little...it's his new secretive friend who does like 60% of the work, his new crew does 30%...and good ol Harrison comes in at the last minute to have an "I don't know what came over me" moment and snag the victory. I would have liked more applied knowledge...early on while attending Weird School Harrison has to learn knots...nothing happens with this knowledge even at the very end when he encounters someone he cares for secured with heavy knots.
I guess all my qualms follow a similar thread. The main character should have been more active in the story....more
It's rare that I finish an audiobook in less than 24 hours, I had a really tough time putting Afterparty down. This would make a fun mini-series!

I didn't enjoy this entry nearly as much as the first book...jazz and vampires aren't really themes I care for...also...unnecessary sex whatever. DNF. I'm sitting at about 36% completion with the audiobook (9.5 hours) and I just don't care! I was fine with this book unabashedly taking it's time DNF. I'm sitting at about 36% completion with the audiobook (9.5 hours) and I just don't care! I was fine with this book unabashedly taking it's time at the start, like a long hike...but it never hooked me. I've been struggling to care about our protagonist and I just can't...it's unfortunate because the series hints at great things down the line. Maybe i'll read a summary of this book (it's not as though I'll miss something particularly cool, the prose is so vanilla and the fight scenes feel stale) and move on to another book in the series..when things hopefully get more interesting....more
