Because this series/characters are awesome and they can do no wrong.
Also - I should write more book reviews, but I never seem to make time. So of course I'm starting with the book that I haven't even read yet.
But trust me - it'll be great. Maybe not perfect, maybe not as good as the others, but it will have all the things you love and all the words you need so heck with expectations. ...more

I like V.C. because she does what I like to think of as "simple" romance - not flowery, not power-tripping, just thoughtful, hey-this-is-kinda-more-realistic-even-if-it's-total-fantasy stuff. It also felt very old fashioned Christopher Reeve/Clark Kent meets Margot Robbie/Lois Lane. It's even self aware which just makes it so much more funny (and RED HOOD! I WANT JASON TODD FANTASY! I NEED IT NOW V.C.!!)
I saw some reviews going "Oh, Lois was xenophobic, I couldn't get into this" and I'm like "What? People fear the unknown/aliens? That's a thing? Gosh, I dunno, I thought we'd all take any aliens who arrived with open arms because we all know there can't possibly be VIOLENT intelligent life in the universe I mean, look at us!" [heavy eyeroll]
Don't listen to them, V.C. - write me more superhero romance based on the tropes of my childhood, gods could I use it right now (also your Tony Stark is honestly more Donatello, just saying / but that's okay, stick to theme, the world's not ready for furries yet) ...more

I guess maybe because the character felt guilt. Huh. Why shouldn't someone who kills feel guilt? That sounds so much more realistic.
V.C. - thank you so much for keeping it real. Gods I love these books. ...more

I see tentacles and think...hmm...okay. Yet I admit curiosity got me and I am glad it did. There are a wealth of "mpreg" fantasy creators out there who attempt to distill the fatherly tendencies they so desperately want in their men however they can - but this author actually did it, and did it well. There is no "mpreg" but "surrogacy/host" style fatherhood and the amusing translated dialogue as well as the adorable little family of alien octopi really warm your heart as they bond with the main human character. GREAT book! So very well done - and I found there is a sequel, squeal!!!...more

That's right, it is. I should just accept a happy aliens from different cultures/worlds getting together book and shut up about it. It IS still good V.C. stuff, obviously, can't go wrong there. Also her notes mention utilizing beta readers to try and get the "feel" of the characters' relationship better, while noting it still has issues (honestly I don't mind issues - so long as they're acknowledged, and we can learn from them). So I gave this one 4 stars instead of my usual 5 but only because I feel if I give everything a 5 it probably cheapens the 5 (I will still continue to do that though, I'm fickle that way). ...more

I love how everyone's xenophobia gets challenged, and how the romance acknowledges it but moves forward anyway. I love how the lead character steps up to meet the "challenge" of her partner, too. I feel like female romance leads never really "step up" enough, they're often left just being pampered in the bedroom, or pursued, or they just like kinky stuff in bed and don't take any initiative in the actual romantic side of the relationship. ...more

Because this book we deal with a species that actually has a heat - and as little sex-all-the-time humans I don't think we ever really appreciate that actual difference. The descriptions of the relationship and it's challenges were spot on, just the right amount of painful and sweet. Real relationships are work! Yes! Realistic romance is apparently my kink now :) ...more
