I knew from the get go I would have to push through the beginning for it to get good… but it just kept getting WORSE somehow. From the sentence structuring to the content of the story itself this was awful in every way.

I feel like this book wasn't written by the same author and it makes me very sad.

I’m growing more concerned with booktok authors lately and their blatant character/plot copying from successful authors. There have been more and more lately using things that worked well in other viral books and just copy pasting them into their own for a selling point. You can use tropes that are in other books, hell you can even have some character similarities but something has to be unique about your story for me to want to read it.
After reading a good portion of this and getting major ick from the annoying as f*ck FMC that’s basically a wishdotcom Aelin, I decided to look at reviews for it to make sure I wasn’t crazy, and then stumbled down the rabbit hole that are the book 2 reviews. Some are calling it flat out plagiarism… glad I’m stopping here. I will not support an author riding off the success of others.

In a nutshell… yikes. So slow… Abuse & antisemitism the book. For no reason. Will not recommend.
As someone who reads retellings every other book I was excited for a good one coming from a highly recommended author. But sadly this fell short. The writing felt very amateur, and honestly still don’t know what the plot was and it’s a retelling... Every point was stretched so thin that I didn’t even know why I was reading each chapter. Literally reading abuse and suffering of children and families for no reason.
I highly doubt I will ever pick up uprooted after this....more
