I don’t even know where to start. Gut wrenching is what I’m going with right now. I’m an emotional mesGod, I hated it. And I mean that in a good way.
I don’t even know where to start. Gut wrenching is what I’m going with right now. I’m an emotional mess. I feel hollow and at the same time so freaking blessed that my babies are happy, loved and ignorant of the ugliness of this world. But also sickened at the unfairness of it all.
The storyline isn’t all that original. I feel like someone going after a loved ones killer has been told before. BUT, there is something ingenious to this story. You know early on, no matter what, there will be no happy ending. Yet, even without the promise of that, the story is so intoxicating you can’t stop. Courtney gives you just enough for you to want to see it through.
I loved the alternating chapters between what’s actually happening to Sadie and the podcast that happens later on. It adds so much to the overall vibe.
It’s been a while since I’ve read a book so devoid of hope. I guess as the story unfolds there is the possibility that she’ll find him and get that revenge, and maybe in a way that’s a twisted sort of hope. The simple hope that, even though she couldn’t save Mattie or herself, she can save those girls that could have been victims.
Courtney is a master storyteller. It’s as simple as that.
More review to come once I crawl out of this hole. ...more
Emblaze is book three in the Violet Eden Chapters! You really must read this series in order and start at the beginning!
This series follows, you guessEmblaze is book three in the Violet Eden Chapters! You really must read this series in order and start at the beginning!
This series follows, you guessed it, Violet Eden. The first book is about Violet discovering something about herself on her 17th birthday. I guess it wouldn’t be spoiler to mention that she’s not exactly human. She ends up discovering this whole new world beyond what she’s always known and a mysterious letter from her mom.
This was probably my favorite installment of the series yet. There was a lot of action, and my favorite characters were back. I need so much more Spence, there was not enough Spence this time around. And I’m so glad that we finally got to see into the mind of Phoenix, although it didn’t really tell me anything I didn’t already know. It’s obvious how he feels even if Violet is too distracted to see it.
This could be a bit spoilery if you haven’t read book one. But I am so over Violet and Lincoln’s not going to happen, happening, not going to happen relationship. SO OVER IT. I didn’t want them to be together in the first place anyway, but something has got to give! I can’t take it anymore. Nothing against Lincoln, he’s the perfect guy if he was flippin’ available! Argh!
But yes, so much action, this one is just one thing after another. It made those 400 some pages fly by! And that ending. I had a lot of what was going to happen figured out with the whole “prophecy” thing, but that other thing that happens. Holy guacamole! Did not see that coming. This should make for an interesting book four!
Looking forward to seeing what kind of trouble Violet gets herself into next!...more
