Vacher's monstrous acts of violence were chronicled extensively in the French press before he was apprehended. The early use of forensic science and medicine in the 1880's and 1890's was used to eventually track Vacher down and end the atrocities. Many citizens were falsely accused of Vacher's crimes and were set free by use of the newly developed methods as well. Many techniques discovered during this time are still used today. The book was very informative and would be enjoyed by fans of true-crime and detective novels. The Sherlock Holmes novels became popular in this era, but Holmes used deduction instead of science to solve his mysteries. A good read....more
