I loved this book, for the most part. I got engrossed and read it in a couple of days (for a chef that's quick!) It was well paced, clearly a sleeping beauty retelling but there was a lot of originality. I loved the setting, it seemed like a beautiful Queendom. I loved the powerplays and found all the politics interesting.
Talia was a great MC, she was hadn't seen most of the kingdom so she discovered along with the reader. I did like how we got Caradoc's POV a few times. I also love the forest, was a very interesting concept.
The ending baffled me, the final battle happened so quick, it was over in less than half a page. It felt so under whelming. The whole book was leading up to this and it was such a let down. Also the final scene with Rhys was so out of left field, Talia had never showed an ounce in evil then she did that, just felt wrong.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. I have already bought the second one in the same setting, let's hope it's as good.

I love any book that has a curse in it, so the title grabbed me straight away and I couldn't wait to read it. It did not disappoint. It was fun, lots of magic and curses, with friendship and mystery thrown in for free. Dee was a great main character, her instincts served her well, she didn't let poeple cloud her judgements, she made her own mind up.
I loved the idea of the witches, the way we learned about Gyssha was very unique and clever. I would have liked a little more on her, but you never know there might be more in the next book, which I have already bought and cannot wait to read. There were a couple of characters at the start that I would to be reintroduced to, I feel like they were to big to only appear for a chapter then never again.
If you like books with magic and wonder then this book is for you, the pacing is good and there is always something excting going on.

I found this really interesting book. I had no idea where it was going and loved it! It did not fall under any usual rules and was nothing like I had every read before. The concept of people being cursed when commiting a crime, was very clever, it was interesting how people treated each other with this hanging over their heads. There was also bindings which happened if you saved someone's life or helped them in a significant way, you were bound to them until they managed to repay the favour. The bindings seemed almost as cruel as the curses since they could not go too far from the person who saved them.
Marshal was a great character, it was interesting reading about a character who can not communicate in almost anyway. But since you see his POV you can see he is a smart person, which I found very good. It was fun to see how people treated him but he was still a great person and didn't hold it against anyone.
Siri was fun to read about, she loved learning and discovering mysteries. I loved her new type of magic. I am looking forward to seeing where her story goes in the next book.
THere is plenty of places this can go and I cannot wait to read the next book.

I wasn't sure what to expect of this book, but I was pleasantly surprised. There was lots to like and only a few things to dislike. I really enjoyed the setting, it was well described and since there was lots of travelling there was lots of variations in setting.
The characters were good but I did feel a few of them weren't really showing any personality. Bossodor was a bland Borromir for me. Everything about him screamed Borromir. There were a few other similarities to Lord of the Rings, not a plagarism way, just a tone and feeling way. I felt it was hard ot get a read on the two female champions, they meshed into one for me, there wasn't enough to seperate them.
The quest was good, there was lots of history and it was well thought out. I did feel there was a lot of stuff happening though, they could never catch a break. I know I normally say there isn't enough action, now I am saying there may have been too much. It was well done and well explained.
There was no long gaps, the story would skip days if needed, I liked this, it made it realistic, so the quest happened over a long period of time but we only read the exciting parts.
I am looking forward to the second book in the series and hopefully it will be out soon. I am assuming from the pace set in the first book that this will be a duology.

This book was sweet but written in a very childish manner even for middle-grade fiction. Shyanna was nice but a little spoiled and selfish. I know she was 13 but her character annoyed me a little. I liked how there was three different stories in this book.
It's a book about friendship, growing up and testing the your own limits. All the stories fitted together well and the illustrations were great.

The start was amazing. I was very intrigued about all the mysteries that were floating about, there were plenty. I was enjoying a book about twins separated at birth and possibly something sinister going as to why. But at about 70% way through the book I was sorely disappointed to find some supernatural elements.
Yes I read a lot of fantasy and paranormal book but I expect clues throughout the book so it isn't just Wham!!! paranormal elements taking over. This is what happened with this book, lots of background characters are suddenly in on the paranormal plot and not who we thought they were.
The characters were okay but they did seem to run hot and cold, they weren't fully rounded out in my opinion.
The writing itself was good until the end. The end was rushed and flimsy feeling. I will not be reading the next book in the series, but might try another book by this author sometime in the future.

I was hooked from the very first page which is extremely rare. I was wanting to know more and more, I kept guessing at what was going to happen, something things I did manage to work out and some only half guessed, but certain parts I completely clueless, which is the perfect combination. I like to at least feel I work some of it out.
The characters were amazing, Breena's spunky attitude was great, I kept looking forward to quips. It also helped that she was learning along with the reader, made the writing smoother and flow better. Prince Caden was swoon worthy and hopefully one day make a just King (if he ever gets that far).
Princess Aleta was a mystery to me at first, I wasn't sure how things were going to with her, but as the story went on, we got to know her better and things made sense.
Lady Kat is force to be reckoned with. I didn't think anything could shock her, nice to know one thing could. She is definitely a good baddie.
Adept Tregle was another character who's loyalty's I was unsure of but by the end his side was clear, he was a good background character.
The unfolding of this story was superbly done, I read this in a day and I still want more. I want to know what happens now, and the story behind Breena's Da's disappearance. And what happened to her mum?
I love stories with magic and this was about people have abilities to do the four elements. I loved the magic in this, it was exciting but not overbearing. I hope there is plenty more in the next book.
If you haven't read this I suggest you do it soon. It's really worth it....more

I wanted to love this book the idea behind it was very clever and full of surprises, but it just didn't give me what I wanted. It was very juvenile, I know it's a young adult book but this felt like a children's book with swear words thrown in and it just didn't work for me. There were lot's of inconsistency in the plot, just small one but they annoyed me, little things like someone speaks but they are meant to have already left the room, small but it they do annoy me, this sort of thing happened quite regularly in this book.
There was a lot of repetition, they kept going on about her being a girl and how it wasn't right, it got on my nerves.
The story itself was good, I didn't trust most of the characters but that shows I did get into the story and cared for Suzie. She was a good main character and fought her way through, there was a few things that at 13 she should have grasped on to a little quicker.
Although I did enjoy this I do not think I will be reading the second book in the series, it was okay but I am not invested enough to keep on reading, I struggled to finish at the end.

I liked the first book in the series but this one was much better. It took me a little time to adjust to the new characters, there wasn't one familiar face really. Lots of mention of the characters in the last book but when the new characters were never mentioned (except for Halle) it got a little jarring.
The story was a little slow to start but after a while I found I was really enjoying it and stayed up until 3am last night just to finish it. I liked how there was multiple POV's but sometimes the transition between them was not clear and it was a little confusing.
Although this is the second in a series, it's a series of the setting rather than the characters and would work perfectly fine as a stand alone book.
I really liked Calum, yes he was a little stand-offish at first but he had a right. It was interesting seeing into his thoughts and how much Leigh annoyed him.
Elsie's story was interesting as was the way it was told. I wanted to see more of her.
Overall this was an exciting and well written story, which I look forward to continuing in the next book.

This book was funny, with plenty of humour for all ages, which went across all the pages. It was silly and exciting and full of adventure and bravery.
I loved the characters and how the good guys were two kids just trying to help out their parents or a friend. It shows you can be kind hearted at any age. The pictures were great. I found myself smiling at how great and silly they were.
I can imagine parents reading this to their kids, lots of laughter would ensue.

Being a lover of fairytale retellings, I lapped this book. It was a little different than any other i have ever read, since the main character knows she has been sucked into a fairytale and it's a little different from the original. She has to make the happy ending happen.
The beginning was great and I was loving the story and wondering how on earth she was going to pull it, if she was at all. The middle dragged a little for me, it just felt like the author wasn't sure where it was going and was just plodding along until she was. But the end picked up again and I was praying it would end how i wanted it to. It did mostly, but I can understand why the author did it this way and it probably wouldn't have made sense anyway.
I loved the setting but would have liked a little more world building. Kat was an amazing main character and she is the kind of person you want as your friend, although she does doubt herself an awful lot.
I also would have liked a little more explanations as to what Katriona was like before Kat was in her body, rather than just they are different.
But overall this is a great retelling of Cinderella with great characters and a sweet story.
