I never thought I would read macaroni smut but here I am. Personally I’m allergic to dairy so this book presented a whole new level of feared relationships.
I feel like this book needs an exorcism but I mean that in the best way. It’s absolutely hilarious but the memory of the cheesy-carby sex scenes will haunt me for eternity.
After reading a Shrek fic on AO3 I thought I had seen it all but alas. Shrek seems tame in comparison to macaroni giving oral (seriously why does she have a tongue?)
Rep// Sentient lesbian macaroni mc (no that’s not a metaphor, she’s fkn macaroni), sapphic mc. Central relationship is sapphic.
Yes this is pretty spicy. And not in the macaroni has cayenne in it kinda way....more

Something about this just felt rushed/unpolished. I felt confused at times because the story was all over the place and the art style wasn’t for me.
There is a really cute strangers to friends to lovers romance which is a joy to watch the development of. That portion was great but I felt the fantasy/sci-fi portion needed more exploration and clarity.

This was a good read if you’re looking for something that has similar feels to comics like Paper Girls. It’s very eerie and sci-fi based with a lot of adventure.
It follows a group of friends who stumble into an odd dimension when looking for one of their missing siblings and from there things tumble into the unexpected.
I did enjoy this, I felt like the story was clear and fast paced.
But there were definitely things I wasn’t as keen on. The artwork feels very IMVU. Like that early 2000s games aesthetic and I wasn’t sure how to feel about it.
Then the other thing I was baffled about was the random sex scene. Whilst their ages aren’t discussed I assumed them to be in their late teens. It also didn’t add anything to the story and felt pretty random.
I did enjoy the casual sapphic rep and discussions surrounding mental health however. I think the rep was handled brilliantly.
Rep// Sapphic MC who has depression & self harms, Black Sapphic MC, BIPOC MC’s. Relationships featured are WLW & WLM.

Was this perfect? No. Did I enjoy it? Yes.
I think whilst this story does struggle with issues like pacing, over description in some areas, and a lack of fleshing out of characters, it really still holds a lot of magic and discussion around certain topics.
Personally I loved the conversations around misogyny and ableism surrounding the original text. In Peter Pan Hook’s Hook is seen as something to be feared and his limb difference is villainised. The women & girls were treated as homemakers and nothing more. Here Low was very attentive in not only recognising that, but giving us characters who actively fight against those tropes which I found really interesting.
It was fast paced and kept me interested but I really do wish the characters would have been fleshed out further and I held no interest in the romance. Personally I felt like the romance wasn’t needed at all, it felt a tad out of the blue.
Rep// Jordan (MC) has a limb difference, one SC is non binary. Romance featured is WLM.

3.8 ⭐️ Always a joy to be pulled back into this world. Whilst this wasn’t my favourite of the series it was still wonderful to listen to.
Audiobook nar3.8 ⭐️ Always a joy to be pulled back into this world. Whilst this wasn’t my favourite of the series it was still wonderful to listen to.
Audiobook narration 5 ⭐️ There is something so soothing/captivating about the narrators tone. Rarely will I pick audiobooks over physical, but with this series I adore the audio.
Vo’s writing style eternally has me floored. I think many novellas struggle with pacing but I’m yet to read a book by Vo that feels incomplete or rushed. They’re the perfect short read I turn to whenever I need to get out of a reading slump. It’s also a beautiful commentary on the power of memory and the privilege behind being heard.

Seriously, I can’t begin to describe how wild this was- I loved every second. If you’re looking for something completely bonkers that will have you laughing and grinning away this is the perfect read.
It’s funny, it’s action packed, and it’s a fast paced YA adventure.
I don’t know how to explain it other than it’s the MOST Monty Python vibes apocalypse. Do with that what you may.
