It was a little frustrating that our main character had all the interesting research ideas that neither her expert parents seemed to come up with. It would have been nice to see either of them a little more useful to the plot rather than put into the background. ...more

There was a romantic subplot between main characters and while I liked the idea, emotionally it was a little flatter than it would have liked. I knew that the felt the way they did, but I would have liked to feel it with the characters more, if that makes any sense.
Still though, a good book that I will remember because of its very distinctness. I definitely recommend....more

It's really hard to say what genre this book is. Historical, historical romance, gothic horror-ish, mystery. It really floats between all of those, with a hint of fantasy/paranormal/horror. For me that's both good and bad. Good because it was interesting, bad because it was hard to settle into the book sometimes.
Well written, with great detail, it did drag here and there, and occasionally the emotion fell a little flat. But it is absolutely one I won't ever forget. Definitely worth the read....more

The only thing I didn't love were, what felt to me, the very long battle sequences. With all the dragon species and very long dragon names thrown in, I got lost trying to read through those. On the plus side, there weren't too many.
