There was no cliffhanger, but I still need more into to tie up loose ends and I think we’ll get that as the series goes on. This was a fun, fast-paced, fast-burn book about Dom/sub dynamics and BDSM/kink exploration with Irish Mafia darkness. I loved the caring scenes with him washing and taking care of her to show his contradicting personalities.

While this is a standalone series from the Transformation trilogy, there are some similarities in the characteristics of the MCs and I’m so excited to see where the story goes. This series is a slowburn but faster burn than the other series (thankfully!). This series is Wall Street/Mafia with moderately dark elements so please view trigger warnings. I love the BDSM elements in this book and the MCs “meet cute”. There is so much mystery that was introduced in book 1 and I can’t wait for the next book! I knew to expect a cliffhanger from Cassie for this series, but I still didn’t believe it!

I felt like I was missing some context and had to keep checking that this was book 1 of a series and not book 2. I wish we got Kira and Maxim’s story first so we could have their background since he seems to be the top guy, but I really enjoyed them as side characters. I look forward to seeing where the rest of the series goes with Nikolai- I think that will be a great book too.

HEA: yes spice: several open-door spicy scenes TWs: violence, murder, sexual assault (insinuated), attempted sexual assault, attempted murder, kidnaping, torture, drugging, manipulation, sex trafficking, death of an animal, standalone: book 2 in the Cusp series- technically don’t need to read book 1 but will help with some of the side characters and a small amount of backstory for MMC/FMC final thoughts: I was so excited to read this book and it mostly met expectations. The storyline was great, the FMC was a badass, the MMC was an absolute cinnamon roll for the FMC, and the side characters made you care about the whole story. Miscommunication was absolutely the main trope of this book and there were quite a few plot holes that made me feel wanting when I finished. However, I do very much recommend this book (and especially book 1 of the series along with it).

According to Ashton, her dad, Shorty Easter, owed a debt and gambled away much of Molly’s life and possessions to set himself straight. Now Molly will do anything to get what’s rightfully hers, even going as far as to make an arrangement with the local Mafia boss to get it. The only problems? She’s had a crush on Ashton since they were kids, and she keeps getting guns pointed at her. MMC: Ashton- the leader of the local mafia who is known for torturing and getting what he wants. What he never sees coming is how attached and protective he becomes to Molly after being in her presence for only a short time. They met when they were kids and she’s always had a sort of hold on him, but she’s always been just far enough away for it to not be on his mind. Now that he has to protect her after being held at gunpoint there’s no turning back. POV: 1st person, dual POV HEA: yes spice: several-door spicy scenes TWs: death of a parent from murder (recounted), death of parent by drugs (recounted), manipulation, murder, torture, kidnapping, attempted murder standalone: book 2 of Kings of New York series, but can be read as a standalone final thoughts: the writing took me a minute to get into and it wasn’t always my favorite, but the story was captivating, and I loved the dynamic of the couple. He understood that she was a strong independent woman but has also gone through a lot of trauma and he was so cute and understanding… as much as he doesn’t like to be portrayed that way. I love the way he takes care of her, especially during the slowburn aspect.

What could possibly go wrong? FMC: Emma- a courier who delivered a package and ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. After witnessing a shoot out she is now in the clutches of the Castillo family and forced to marry the oldest son and become the matriarch of the family. POV: 1st person, dual POV HEA: no, cliffhanger spice: a slow-burn with a few open-door spicy scenes TWs: death of parents (recounted), death by cancer, estranged/uninterested parents, suicide, sexual assault, kidnapping, murder, abuse, domestic abuse, isolation, mental abuse, standalone: Castillo Cartel book 1 final thoughts: I was so excited by the themes, tropes, title, and cover but the book did fall a bit flat for me. Emma was fine, but Angel gave me whiplash. One minute he’s great and the next he’s terrible. I didn’t see a lot of character growth and I hated the casual domestic abuse throughout the book. There were so many plot holes for me and I felt no love between the characters.
