Sumbiocriticism, Symbiocene, solastalgia, etc. Some of his ideas are very redundant, though powerful. As a philosopher, I appreciate his optimism and productive potential of hope, not despair in creating terms, fields, and concepts that reflect getting out of our mess....more

1. Stop emissions - "Black and white". Extreme dichotomous thinking. "Either we go on as a civilization, or we don't. There are no grey areas when it comes to survival." - Actually disagree with no grey areas as collapse of civilization is already happening to some areas due to climate change, the climate crisis is ongoing and uneven.
2. Cathedral thinking - Building foundations when you are not yet sure how the ceiling will look. Can be extended better I think with discussions of long term, hundred year projects, 'buttressed' by science (nice pun).
3. The children - Leaning into the fact that she was a literal child and that detractors would tell her to 'stay in school', she uses the image of the child, the naive, innocent children of the future who do not deserve our mistakes that threaten their livelihood. Lot of fascinating scholarship on this idea of the children, reproductive futurism being a fascinating critique of the continual obsession with 'think of the children'!...more

A bastard(this wasn't known) immigrant from France but born in Saint Domingue in modern-day Haiti, his father sent him to NYC at the age of 18 so that he couldn't be drafted into the Napoleonic Wars. I wish the biography had delved further into the fact that he was a slave owner and his positive interactions with native American tribes. Before Darwin, Audubon sensed that the Romantic notion of idyllic, paradise nature was incomplete. Emerson sensed this as well at the time, and Thoreau later seized both writers to create his works. Also, read this 500 page sucker in one day lol....more

"They just used to skedaddle off to work - I've seen hundreds of 'em, bit of breakfast in hand, running wild and shining to catch their little season-ticket train, for fear they'd get dismissed if they didn't; working at businesses they were afraid to take the trouble to understand; skedaddling back for fear they wouldn't be in time for dinner; keeping indoors after dinner for fear of the back-streets; and sleeping with the wives they married not because they wanted them, but because they had a bit of money that would make for safety in their one little miserable skedaddle through the world."
