It’s a well-written and lively narrative of what happened in the aftermath of what they describe as the single worst day in the history of life on this planet – as Riley writes, within a day, nearly every terrestrial species that couldn’t find refuge near water or underground went extinct.
Riley freely admits to the speculative nature of the chapters but they provide the notes from the latest studies that support these musings.
The only “fault” I can say about this book is that I wish Riley had taken us a few more chapters into the post-Dinosaurian world – maybe taken us out to about 20 million years after the impact. Maybe they’ll write a sequel…
Recommended. I’d particularly recommend it to parents of 6th to 8th graders who might be exhibiting interest in this topic. Riley isn’t writing for specialists or even advanced undergrads & the format and writing are perfect for getting a kid interested....more
