I stroked the back of my fingers against Horus’s chest feathers a few times. When I put my hand down, the bird pecked at me. “He doesn’t want you to stop!” Gunner laughed. “Damn, look at you two all chummy.”
“I can heal cuts and fix broken bones, but there’s no fixing men being idiots.”
“You’re stuck with me, little butterfly,” I mumbled, sleep and relaxed bliss settling into my limbs. “You just had to go and make me fall in love with you.”
I nodded again, rubbing warmth into the tiny, helpless animal that I already knew was so much more. “Her name is Freyja.”
