A very nice book with the distinct Terry Pratchett style set in mid-19th century London, which is surprisingly similar to end-of-the-century-of-the-fruitbat Ankh-Morpork.
The story is not extraordinarily exciting or innovative, but the main draws of the book are the characters and the setting. Therefore if you're interested in that time period or are quite familiar with the literature of that time, you will enjoy the book even more.

There's something special about a new Terry Pratchett book. For years, I have received his latest novel at Christmas, and a Christmas without a Pratchett is like a stocking with nothing but a lump of coal at the bottom. He is, and remains, my favourite living author and I adore his writing.

I love Pratchett's fantasy books and this isn't one, no magic here, only the "Lady" , goddess of the sewers. I only gave it four stars as it didn't hold my interest all the time, but it is good. Pratchett is at his most British here, writing about Dickens as a journalist and a young man who is a 'tosher' someone who gleans a living from the sewers of London. Dodger rescues a young woman who is being beaten by some men. Dickens and Henry Mayhew help the young woman and Dodger. Soon he becomes emb

I found this hard to put down! What another great book from Mr Pratchett. If you are a fan you'll love it if not you soon will be a fan and then you can try the Discworld series. Dodger is a great character and I would love to see moe of him but I think this was a stand alone book......... ...more
breezed through it for the second times the other day. For some reason, I'd only remembered it being alright whereas this time it was absolutely wonderful from start to finish
