Tess Gerritsen writes consistently good books. However, for me, the kind of good they are varies depending upon the era they come from. Presumed Guilty falls into her romantic thriller category, which is my least favourite category for her work. Don’t get me wrong, the books that fall into this category are still great, but there is far too much of a romantic focus (as the category title would suggest).

If you’re a fan of all of Geritsen’s work – by that I mean you have read her early nineties stuff and not just her Rizzoli and Isles books – then by all means give Presumed Guilty a try. I’m sure you’ll adore it, in its own way, as I did. However, if you have only read her crime thrillers, be aware that you get something quite different in these books.

There is the consistent mystery across all of her books. You are always trying to uncover some hidden facts. When it comes to her romance thrillers, though, you have a predetermined ending in a number of ways. You get the lead male. You get the lead female. You know they’re going to get a happily ever after – together. It ruins quite a few aspects of the story for me, with attention being focused upon forming a relationship between the two. Why does this relationship need to be formed? Because we have a consistent main character initial hatred. Alone the thriller aspects are wonderful, if not short, but with the romantic aspect you have a tale of old that has been done many times before.

This time the tale revolves are a case of mistaken blame. Our lead female is accused of murdering her lover. She didn’t do it, of course, we know this from the get go – but nobody will believe her words. Moreover, it seems as though people are out to make her seem as guilty as possible, through throwing more and more damning evidence in her direction. Our lead male is out to find out what truly happened to his brother. Why did this female kill him? Is she actually the one to blame? Whether or not he believes her cries of innocence, she seems to be the only way for him to get his answers. Thus, he starts working with her… and as you would expect the romance kicks in despite everyone knowing better.

It’s a storyline that already exists in the genre, but with Gerritsen you’re kept on the edge of your seat throughout as you guess all that is going on. Whilst some of it is predictable, it’s certainly an interesting read.

Overall, we still have a four star book. It is a weaker four stars than her Rizzoli and Isles books – the Rizzoli and Isles books are four stars working towards five, for me, whereas this is a four stars with the occasional slip into three star territory (mainly through my inability to deal with too much romance at once) – but it is still a four star read.

Certainly give it a read if you enjoy Gerritsen or romantic thriller.

I think the author unintentionally had me in stitches with lines like ‘…she closed her eyes and felt herself melting, flowing like warm liquid against him.’ Or ‘She tasted of summer and warmth and warm amber honey.’ This book would make a great comedy mystery film.

Miranda’s lover Richard is found stabbed to death and she is presumed guilty. Richard’s brother comes back to the island to support Evelyn and her children the wife of Richard. He slowly falls in love with Miranda.

Other suspects include Evelyn, her father, Jill the editor and the mob. Miranda ends up staying with her friend Annie and several attempts are made on her life. This brings Chase, Richard’s brother and her closer together. In the end there is a confrontation with the real murderer Annie on top of the news office roof.

Overall a good mystery but the Mills and Boom flowery language is hilarious🤣. Yes, I am a cynic😀

This was possibly one of the worst books I have ever read. Ok, maybe not the worst, but the worst one that I have actually finished. Normally I give up. Life is too short:) But this was a short one and an easy read, and I had to know "who done it."

The weird thing is I read 3 or so other books by this author and enjoyed them. I think this was one of her first books. It is basically a really mediocre murder mystery combined with a romance novel.

Case in point - "She tasted of summer and warmth and sweet amber honey" My god, where to even begin. So yeah, there was alot of that. It actually was somewhat amusing at times, in a "I can't believe this shit" kind of way:)

Gosh, it was a Harlequin Romance. It read like one, but like a really well written one. Tess Gerritsen always delivers - even in her very early books. This one was a fast and enjoyable read - much better than most of the high priced suspense novels of today. The plot started with a bang and moved right along. Sure, there were some holes, but some pretty decent twists and turns, as well. It would be a good book for the beach - a quick afternoon read.

The fact that nobody locked their doors when they were trying to keep people out was pretty ridiculous, but other than that, it was good. I mean in the first scene, our protagonist is told by her lover that he's coming to her place. She told him again and again, not to come - it's over between us. BUT ... she knew that he would come, so she left her place and walked to the beach. She left the door UNLOCKED. Granted, he could have had a key, but apparently, didn't. Then when she returned from her time on the beach, she saw his car and walked right into her house and up into the bedroom where she knew he would be waiting. That was pretty dumb.

Time and time again with an attacker and a murderer at large and fear rampant, characters would go to bed leaving their houses unlocked. As the product of a small town, I can understand not locking doors, but NOT when you're concerned about an unknown villain stalking the populous.

Miranda Wood was finally content, after a terrible couple of weeks, where she quit her job and broke up with her married lover. She had decided to leave the island, start afresh with a new job and new home. Until the night Richard telephoned her, wanting to see her, not believing she would actually leave him. He was coming to her home, and she didn’t want to see him. So she went for a long walk, sat by the water for an hour or so then slowly made her way home. When she saw Richard’s car was still there, she was angry, determined to confront him one last time. But her horror was complete when she found his body in her bed…he’d been stabbed to death with one of her kitchen knives.

While Miranda was taken to jail for the murder of Richard Tremain, as she was the obvious suspect, Chase Tremain, Richard’s brother, was driving all night to get home to his family. As Miranda’s bail was posted by an anonymous donor the following day, confusion mounted. Miranda had no idea who had posted bail, she knew no-one who could afford that sort of money! But was this anonymous gesture a kind one, or a manipulative one? Suddenly Miranda found herself in immense danger with the secrets from Richard’s dark past coming out in the open…

She was fighting to prove her innocence but no-one believed her. Her friends all deserted her, her colleagues at the newspaper office where she’d worked wouldn’t look her in the eye. Even the police chief was convinced of her guilt! Would Miranda be able to prove her innocence before she became another statistic?

The twists and turns in this great thriller lived up to Gerritsen’s usual style. The pace was fast, the action full on. I had no idea who the killer was until the very end….

Highly recommended.

Tess ya işte her zaman okunur. Her ne kadar kitabın editinde bazı küçük sorunlar gözüme çarpmış olsa dahi konu iyi. Kimse gerilim beklemesin, macera çünkü. Konu özeti kendini anlatıyor. Kitap akıcı kendini okutuyor. Ben sevdim. Tavsiyemdir:)

This was early Tess Gerritsen before she got into her thrillers. This was a romance mystery. It was ok, but not great for me. Short and easy to read, but the characters were mostly forgettable. The plot was mostly predictable. A happily ever after ending, just like you would expect.

This is a good mystery thriller that combines all the traditional elements of a small town murder wrapped up in affairs, gossip and secrets with Gerritsen's superb writing talent. Granted there is nothing new or amazingly shocking in the story but sometimes you just need a good bit of crime fluff to break up all the heavy reading I'm sure you do. And this is one of those books. An all round good read.

"Happy endings are not automatic. Someone has to work for them."

I usually don't like infidelity (don't care if you're the other woman/man or the cheater because you all look the same to me) but this story is different.

When Miranda's ex-lover was found in her bedroom, with her knife sticking out in his chest, she knows she's fucked. It doesn't matter that she knows she's innocent

description

because everyone in town hates the "other woman."

I thought that I wouldn't like Miranda's character because duh. My claws and pitchfork were ready to judge her and I was thinking that despite the author being a favorite of mine, this book would have a 3 star at most.

But the joke is on me.

description

I empathized with Miranda.I feel her pain and her willingness to start anew. I love the way that she didn't make excuses with her mistakes and I was rooting for her to have a happily ever after.

Another thing that I also liked, this is a romantic suspense so of course there would be some guy here for Miranda. Tess Gerritsen gave this book the kind of slow-burning romance that's deeply appreciated by yours truly.

There's no insta-love here and the heroine and hero actually uses their brains which is a relief.

P.S: Excuse the Tess Gerritsen marathon,I have a bundle of her books lying around in my house..

Miranda is accused of killing her married lover. The evidence is clear that she did it but she's determined to prove she didn't do it. As her ex lover's brother witness someone trying to kill her he then think twice about her being innocent.

With the help of the long lost brother Chase. Miranda and him become connected more than they thought they could as they fight for their life while trying to find out who's the real killer and who's trying to kill her.

I enjoy piecing together the clues.

Miranda Wood wdała się w romans bez perspektyw. Kiedy w końcu udało jej się z niego wyplątać, los postanowił z niej okrutnie zadrwić. Jej kochanek zostaje odnaleziony martwy.

Tess does a fantastic job of weaving a story that keeps you guessing who did it. I never know who it is until she reveals the person at the end and it's never the person I would have imagined. This is another fantastic murder mystery. It was good as an audiobook.

Hikayede aile içi sırlar iki kardeşin birbirinden büyük farklılığı..Miranda'nın yaşadığı travma..Chase'in ağabeyinin katiline duyduğu çekim...Çok çok güzeldi..Elimden bırakamadım..Tavsiye ederim...

This is one of Gerritsen's older books- i.e. Pre-Rizzoli and Isles. And there really isn't anything terribly wrong with that. The characters are not terribly fleshed out. But the plot moves quickly in somewhat unexpected ways that still feel somewhat realistic.

However, I have one major bone to pick with Ms. Gerritsen. Our plucky heroine, Miranda, is falsely accused of killing the man she used to be having an affair with. I cannot tell you how many times Miranda herself and other characters refer to Miranda as a "Murderess." Murderess? Really? It's 1993! It is as if the women's movement never happened. Come on, Tess Gerritsen! Girl Power and all that!

I can't begin to explain why this word drove me up the freaking wall. I'm not really sure why, maybe it's because I was expecting a word like that to come out of the mouth of Lady Catherine de Berg. It just took me out of the book completely.

But disregarding that bit of trivia, this book is fine. Far from her best, but certainly not the worst. Despite the flat characters, the book is engaging. It's light reading. Like something to read during a long car trip. You can keep up with it in spite of repeated "Are we there yet?"s.

I would give it 3-3.5 stars. But I rounded up to compensate for my "murderess" prejudices.

Having read for her twice before, 2 medical thrillers as I recall, I liked her style so I thought of going over more books.

This is one of her early works from the 90's, so the plot is inline with what was 'in' those days. with too many 'saved by fate' moments and a deus ex machina ending. The character list was short so guessing the real murderer was relatively easy.

Miranda Wood arrived home to a dark, cold cottage - and a man, stabbed to death, lying in her bed.

Miranda is the obvious suspect, and she looks even guiltier when her bail is paid by an anonymous donor.

I’ve gotta be honest here the it was definitely not what I was expecting. I expected it to be a true crime drama read but that’s not really what I got. Sure there were a death and a “who done it?” Type feel to it... but for me it’s not a book I read straight through due to anticipation and wanting. I definitely wasn’t a fan of the whole detective thriller romance type feel of it, usually I don’t mind ... but that’s if it works. Chase just bothered me to be honest (hiding his feelings and being completely foolish). I liked Miranda but again she was just too proud.

I would love nothing more to give it a 5 and I was contemplating between rating it a 3 or a 4. It’s a book I wouldn’t necessarily pick up again in a hurry, but then if I saw it at the charity shop for 50p or £1 I’d most likely purchase it.

The problem is I felt like it was a slow read but at the same time I’d probably remember it for a long time coming, that and I actually wasn’t expecting the end reveal until forwards the end, which I liked. Therefore I will give it w rating of 4 stars rather than 3.

If you like a romance element to your read and you aren’t a fan of gore or books of a disturbing nature then this book is for you.

The author is really fantastic and there are some blurbs to some of her other books at the end which look really really interesting, hopefully this is just a glitch of a book.

I have always enjoyed a little romance mixed in with a good mystery, but have never really read the Harlequin books. This is one of Tess Gerritsen's early books that has been rereleased by Harlequin.
Miranda Wood has ended her affair with her married boss, but Richard Tremain is not ready to accept that she could really not want to be wirh him.
He calls Miranda to say he is coming over, and she leaves the house hoping he will get the message and just leave. Returning home later she finds Richard stabbed to death in her bed.
There are twists and turns and a few surprises enough to keep it an enjoyable read, but I admit I like her later books a bit better.

I am a massive fan of Tess's Rizzoli & Isles series, so I was thrilled to read another book by her. Miranda Wood is just like any other person who falls in love, although not all romance stories end with a happy ending. Arriving home, Miranda walks into her worst nightmare, the married man who she had been having an affair with is now dead in her bed. Not only that but she is now the prime suspect in his murder.
When she gets bail, Miranda is thrown in a dangerous world, not knowing who to trust and who would kill Richard plays on her mind, day and night. To her everyone could have a motive from killing him but what she must find out is which one wanted it more and why they are now after her as well.
Being a big Rizzoli & Isles fan I didn't know what to expect from a stand-alone thriller but I am so glad I read it. It would have to be one of my favourite thriller books, with the suspense, crime, romance and scariness I couldn't put it down!
I would have to say my favourite part of the book would be the on-going mystey element. I drew me in completely making me enthralled with the story and characters.
Presumed Guilty is a mind-blowing thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat until the last page. I would recommend every Tess Gerritsen fan to read this amazing book as you will be guilty of loving it as much as I do!

The love story almost over-rode the mystery and made the story frustrating to follow. Those of us that love her forensic novels will find this one a little boring at times but I knew that she could pull this story out. I was almost wrong in this assumption since we had to deal with small town mentality...not really likable characters... and multiple suspects all with good reasons to murder her husband.

Tess Gerritsen is a very good writer who specialises in medical thrillers and being am ex physician shows a great knowledge and detail to her work.
Fast paced novel that makes excellent reading.
I have now read all of this authors books and it was very enjoyable reading them. A very good author who produces novels to a very high standard.
