Her job is to make his life miserable. His job is to make her submit. Whose heart will surrender first?

Across the country, rebellious BDSM submissives are being systematically kidnapped, one from each club. When her friend falls prey to the slavers, FBI victim specialist Gabrielle volunteers to be bait in a club not yet hit: the Shadowlands.

She finds that being a bratty sub comes naturally, especially when she gets to twit the appallingly conservative Master of the trainees. But she soon discovers he's not as stuffy as she'd thought. Or as mean. She'd expected punishment, even humiliation, but she sure never expected to fall in love with a damned lawyer.

Courtesy of a prima donna ex-wife, Marcus loathes disobedient submissives. When the club owner insists he admit an incredibly bratty trainee, he's furious. But as he comes to know Gabrielle and sees the alluring sweetness beneath the sass, he starts to fall for her.

Unfortunately, Marcus isn't the only one who believes the feisty redhead is a prize worth capturing. And in the world of the slaver, such treasure is worth a hefty fee.

Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Anal play/intercourse, strong BDSM theme and elements, violence.

A New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, she’s renowned for writing heart-wrenching romances with laugh-out-loud dialogue, alpha males, and absolutely sizzling sex.

I met my dearheart when vacationing in the Caribbean. Now I won’t say it was love at first sight. Actually since he stood over me, enjoying the view down my swimsuit top, I might have been a tad peeved—as well as attracted. But although we were together less than two days and lived on opposite sides of the country, love can’t be corralled by time or space.

We’ve now been married for many, many years. (And he still looks down my swimsuit tops.)

Nowadays, I live in the west with this obnoxious, beloved husband and a seventy-pound lap-puppy. I’m a gardener, and I love nurturing small plants until they’re big and healthy and productive…and ripping defenseless weeds out by the roots when I’m angry. I enjoy thunderstorms, collecting eggs from the chickens, and visiting the local brewery for the darkest, maltiest beer on tap. My favorite way to spend an evening is curled up on a couch next to the master of my heart, watching the fire, reading, and…well…if you’re reading my books, you obviously know what else happens in front of fires.

Short, fun and sexy. A bratty sassy sub gets more than she bargained for, and a Master learns to love the challenge

“If your brattiness bothers me, I think you know now that I can—and will—simply fuck it right out of you.”

I recommend giving it a try because you've already come this far to find this kinda book *wink*

Gabi has very little BDSM experience, but she will need to pretend to be a bratty sassy sub at the Shadowlands club in order to help the investigators to find her kidnapped friend by slave traders.
Master Marcus has taken Cullen job and now he is the Master of the trainees. Unfortunately he cannot stand brats and Gabi is the worst sub that could happen to him.
Since he is unaware of Gabi's assignment, there will be a lot of tension between these two in the beginning and many power struggles. Gradually Marcus will start being attracted to her and he will see behind her pretence that she is truly a sweet sub looking for the perfect Master.
I loved Marcus with his southern accent and he definitely the ultimate Master! And Gabi is truly hilarious trying to play the spoiled brat.
”You mean you’re not God? Nooo, say it isn’t so!”
...
“While you are here, li’l sub, I am your god.”

***3.5 All About Master Marcus Stars***

Overall, story wise this was my favorite of the series so far. It's setting up a suspense element that will carry over into the next few books. What was introduced here, I thoroughly enjoyed.

This book was ALL about Master Marcus for me. A gentleman Dom....

Sexy demands with a sophisticated southern twang....

He was aggressive yet mindful, possessive yet gentle, honest and intuitive and I was defenseless to every one of his charms.

Gabi, on the other hand.....yeah, I just couldn't get down with her.

She suffers from being an idiot, which for me is anger inducing. I mean, I definitely understand that

description

but it seems that the heroines in this series focus too much on their negatives to notice that there is no evidence evident to support their feelings.

During the climactic drama, Gabi showed unbelievable strength and determination and I thought

But then she reverted back to being a dumbass and I realized, yep, still not a fan.

This series has been a mixed bag for me, but I'll definitely keep going. I'm intrigued by the other Doms and the new suspense element that is unraveling. I'll just have to remember to keep in mind that disappointing leading ladies come with the package.

Another wonderful addition to the Shadowlands series. I liked the longer length of this story, the mystery involved, the spunky 'brattiness' of Gaby and of course, Master Marcus. You really can see Sinclair's growth as an author in this book. It's more complex, has good subplots and the characters have more depth. And of course, it's exciting that she left the door open for more stories to spin off from this one.

For me, the one thing that 'makes' Cherise's books is the way she portrays her doms. They are masterful dominant men BUT, and this is the big one for me, they are caring. We see the aftercare, the tenderness, the thinking that goes on as they try to understand the sub, the way they check the fit of the cuffs, communicate about limits and safe words, the constant watching and observing of the women in order to 'read' them and ensure the female's pleasure before their own etc

Too often in BDSM books, the men are plain and simple abusive jerks out for their own gratification. They treat the women like dirt and show no real care beyond a few platitudes that seem to be thrown in at the last minute. There's too much emphasis on the sex acts and not enough on creating characters we can actually fall in love with. Cherise Sinclair has risen above this, setting a higher standard that I only wish other BDSM authors would try to reach.

Nicky Charles

p.s. One of the other reviewers mentioned that this book seemed a bit more violent than the others. I'm not sure about that. Perhaps, but it could also be that the story is dealing with a crime and everything can't be light and fluffy or it wouldn't be as real. I will admit that the first part of the book made me feel a tad uncomfortable and I wasnt sure why but then it came to me. The female lead is uncomfortable and Sinclair is conveying this to the reader through her descriptions of the club activities as seen by that character!

I honestly think this is Ms. Sinclair's best book. The plot and character interaction were more developed in this book than they have been in any other. I enjoyed the story very much, and highly recommend to fans of erotic romance w/BDSM elements.

Hold on, I’ll need a moment.

I’m still a puddle of goo after reading this book! MAKE ME, SIR is Master Marcus’s book and wow, where can I get me one of those?

Cherise Sinclair delivers yet another book that surpasses and goes beyond all my expectations! Never would have I imagined to read a story that uses the sensual allure of BDSM to coax an emotional recovery from a character quite like this.

Sinclair really goes above and beyond what most authors would do to accomplish not only steamy, earth-shattering sex scenes, but also delving deeper into the subconscious to mend old wounds that have lasted years and still haunt the heroine, Gabrielle.

As a FBI social worker, Gabrielle volunteers to go into the Shadowlands as a decoy for a kidnapper who is abducting feisty subs and selling them for profit, Master Marcus has the task of teaching this difficult sub to surrender herself to him.

Master Marcus is unaware of Gabi’s assignment, so while she is truly submissive, she must play the part of a bratty sub to rouse Marcus’s anger on purpose, hoping to draw out the kidnapper and target her.

As this interesting - and sometimes hilarious – back and forth occurs between the hero and heroine, Cherise adds in the emotional element that makes a reader like me melt. How can I resist such a touching story?
I also thoroughly enjoyed the updates on the previous couples we’ve met from the others books. Reading about them is like seeing old friends. You can’t help but smile when you read about them.

There is some creative use of punishment in this book and I have to say that I enjoyed it thoroughly! The use of some items such as the ginger root, floating pool swan, tire swing and doggy tails were both hilarious and very, very creative! If that tease doesn’t get you to want to read this book, then I don’t know what else will.

The great thing about Sinclair’s books are that with each subsequent instalment, you know you are getting a story that will bring a blush to your cheeks, get that heartbeat racing and leave you satisfied and perhaps begging for me.

I highly recommend adding Sinclair’s books to your keeper shelf if you are a BDSM lover. Nothing gets better than a Shadowland Master!

5 "You're so sexy" stars

This book is delightful! Gabi is a social worker with very little BDSM experience when she volunteers to play decoy in Shadowlands in order to help her kidnapped friend. Too bad she has to play the "bratty" sub in order to get the kidnappers attention. Even worse, her minimal experience in BDSM could never have prepared her for Master Marcus' intensity.

Marcus hates bratty submissives, especially when their brattiness is just for show. When Master Z assignes a new trainee without asking him first and this new trainee is obviously trying hard to play as bratty as possible he is majorly desmayed. Still he can't help his attraction to the real glimpses of the woman behind the fake brattiness. He knows that not all her behavior is fake and what he sees of her has him craving more.

I'll just say that I love the book and move on. Everything else has been said many times!;)

Favourite quote from this book "100,000 sperm and you were the fastest"

I have issues with restraint. So many issues that this book was bought on PDF to read on my kindle (which is a pain in the ass by the way) but it was worth it! I noticed a change in Sinclairs writing in master of the abyss. The writing was less short story-like and more like a fully fleshed out novel. I have loved every single one of her books but these last two were fully fleshed out erotic novels with a fabulous suspense driven side story.

Master Marcus kinda hooked me in Cullens story. The man with the sharp suits and southern drawl......yum! I can honestly say Im pretty sure I'd struggle saying no to him but that is what Gabi has to do! Gabrielle is a social worker working undercover in Shadowlands, with the FBI, to smash a human trafficking ring who are targetting stubborn submissives to be sold to the highest bidder to be "broken" . I always think that it is brave of an author to use such a side story but Sinclair did it justice. The lengths that Gabi went to to be seen as stubborn was quite heartbreaking (as, as with all Sinclairs heroines, she was damaged) because she truely wanted this ring to be stopped and get the women back. Marcus had to take her on as a Trainee and, although he doesn't try to, he can't help but feel drawn in by the little sub who seems to be going against her true nature to get punished. No-one but Z knows why Gabi is there which leads to some awkward misunderstandings with Jessica and a bit of a nightmare with the unusual lengths that Master Marcus uses to get to the bottom of his little sub.

I loved Marcus. I'm afraid Cullen has ruined me for all other Masters but Marcus could come a close second. He is strict, charming and completely relentless! His punishments were unusual (there is a scene with a piece of ginger that Terry Pratchett would be proud of) but never made me feel squirmy. The lengths that he went to to try to get to the bottom of her fears were typical of a Dom in love (I didn't need Cullens comment of "another one bites the dust" to figure this one out) and the man was like chocolate all the way through...all smooth, tasty and completely sweet! I did like Gabi. She wasn't a ball-buster like Andrea but still had enough guts for me not to hate her. I'm never going to like a book where the woman hasn't got a little bit of balls and spirit about her. The lines she came out with to get the Masters annoyed with her made me cry with laughter (I liked when she called Raoul Munchkin) and I actually felt for her when she realised that she was actively destroying her burgeoning relationship (against her submissive nature) with Marcus for the good of the case.

I recommend this book. You don't need to read the others (although they are in it its only as side story) but reading Jessica's story could be good as her and Z feature in this book quite heavily towards the end. Marcus still comes in second to Cullen but I'd still get chased aroud the capture gardens by him any day of the week :) Now off to petition Ms Sinclair for a book about either Vance, Galen or Raoul :)

I've been a fan of Ms. Sinclair since I read her first Shadowland's title. I've enjoyed all of her books; this is definitely my favourite. I wasn't sure what the book was going to cover, but I figured it would feature a stubborn sub since it was titled, "Make Me, Sir". The sassy sub kept me laughing throughout the book.

Gabi definitely comes across as a confused and stubborn sub. The reasons for her mixed signals are apparent to the reader. To the doms, not so much. I found it amusing as her behaviour makes no sense to them and they try everything to figure it out. What I love most about Ms. Sinclair's world is the existence of this club, populated with different dom/dommes. This safe, sane, consensual environment is attractive and only makes me wish one existed, just like this, near me.

One specific scene sticks out into my mind. The doms finally figure out the truth, by forcing Gabi into subspace. From my experience, this is very true. Unlike Gabi, I don't remember the questions asked. I do know I answer ever question asked. Makes me wonder if this works on everyone!

The doms Ms. Sinclair creates are all different but with the same underlying appealing characteristic. . . they all experienced doms who can read a sub. I also like how none of her doms are perfect. Each one has an experience in their past that causes them to have certain quirks. I find it a bit too "perfect" in each story the sub matched to the dom exhibits the characteristics which pushes the dom's buttons. Even so, I enjoy this matching and want to keep reading about it even though it isn't realistic.

Speaking of realistic, Ms. Sinclair's dom are a fantasy which I find alluring. I only wish I had one; unfortunately this is fiction, so I am resigned to disappointment in real life. I do recommend this book. Beware . . . once you start it, you may not put it down until you finish it.

Delicious as ever, with danger added to the mix, this story is still as wonderful as the very first time i read it.
Cherise keeps adding new people to the Shadowlands family, and i love them all!!

Back in Shadowlands, and it’s Marcus who’s assigned a new trainee by Master Z.
The circumstances are a little odd,but he’ll do his best to teach her what she needs to know.
He likes his subs to obey him,but this one seems to have trouble following his commands….
Having had a relationship gone south because his girlfriend wanted attention from others, and behaved accordingly,he expects to lose his patience with the new sub.
Only,Gabi isn’t what he thought she was…..there ís a sweet subbie underneath all that sass,if only she’d show it more often.

FBI victim specialist Gabi volunteered to be bait, even if it scares her, because her bestie Kim is taken by traffickers.
She’s assigned to a Master that she doesn’t take seriously at first because….let’s face it,a suit in a BDSM club? Really??
Hearing he’s a lawyer is another strike against him….he must be a stuffy suit, and how will this ever work?
But when she gets to know him better, she finds there’s so much more to Master Marcus….and craving his approval makes it difficult to keep up the sass.
But she knows she has to continue being a brat, even if it’s hard…...

Meanwhile, the enemy is planning, and they have their eyes on a few candidates to acquire for the Harvest Association.
Taikng the time to assess and find the best time to grab their victims.
Will the trap the FBI set up work?
Gabi’s handler at Shadowlands is a creep, and she doesn’t trust him.
But the other men on the case with her, agents Kouros and Buchanan, take her seriously though…
They see the determination to help, and know how brave she is playing bait.
Until it all goes wrong…..and not only is she taken, but Jessica is taken along with her!
With no one knowing, how can they have any hope of escaping the traffickers???

This book was excellent in so many levels.

First we have Gabi, undercover agent for the FBI at the Shadowlands Club. She is posing as a trainee, but her job is to be the most rebellious and irreverent trainee the Club has ever seen. So she gets to say hilarious insults.
“I can't believe out of one hundred thousand sperm, you were the fastest!”

Sometimes even stupid insults, that are all the more hilarious.
“That's a dumbass idea. You're a dumbass. Even Jesus thinks you're a dumdass.”

And even though at heart she's a submissive, you can see that some of her wild moments have nothing to do with the job, she's just crazy.
She couldn’t take her eyes from the dancing flame. No, this was so wrong. Candles should be used for meditation…for romance. Or on a birthday cake at least.

So where was the cake? The present? The song? As he stepped closer to her—as the damned flame got way too close—she started singing. “Happy birthday to me. Happy birthday to me…” Marcus paused, looking at her in disbelief. See. I knew he didn’t have a sense of humor. “Happy birthday, dear Gabi”—she lifted her head and blew out the candle—“happy birthday to me.”

We have Marcus, the unaware trainer, who simply doesn't know how to deal with her.
“Why would you think I’m not Master Marcus?” he asked. Well, good grief. She waved a hand at him and kept the duh from slipping out. Just in case he really was Master Marcus. Maybe he hadn’t changed yet or something. “The suit? Where are your leathers or latex or…biker jacket or vest? And black? Did you forget to wear black?”

He stared for a second, as if she’d turned into a drooling idiot, and then simply roared. Deep, full laughter—amazing coming from someone who looked like he should have a stick up his ass.

Then there's Jessica and Z's subplot. Z is the only one who knows Gabi is an undercover agent and he has sworn not to tell anyone, even his sub. Plus, Z has been keeping her at arm's lenght for the last year because she's younger and he wants her to be able to step back if she wants to.

But not only Jessica doesn't want to step back, she's worried because everyone else is committing and Z doesn't seem to want more. *sigh* Thank God they are cute.

And that Nolan/Beth moment was perfect. As much as I love J and Z, Gabi and Marcus, Nolan and Beth just have a special place in my heart.

Another Masters of the Shadowlands success.

My favorite story! The plot is deeper and darker than the previous stories and all our favorite couples seem more involved and show up ore often.

Gabrielle is a victim counselor and has volunteered to go undercover for the FBI. Female Subs have been disappearing from clubs, never to be found again. Until one of them manages to escape and alert authorities that she had been kidnapped to be sold into slavery. Now Gabi's best friend, Kim, is missing. Her fierce loyalty to her friend motivates her to face her fears and step outside her comfort zone. To accomplish her mission she'll have to step into the role of a submissive and draw the kidnapper's attention. Only bratty Subs have been taken, so she'll have to become just that. She's not really prepared for what she's getting into. Being disobedient towards the Masters of the Shadowlands has its consequences.

Marcus Atherton has taken over Master Cullen's old job. He now has control over the trainees. Everyone is surprised when Master Z informs them of the newest addition without further discussion. It doesn't take long for Gabi to get into character, and the first person she mouths off to happens to be Master Marcus. Oops. Marcus hates bratty Subs. His ex-wife was a brat and threw tantrums to become the center of attention. Now all he wants is a nice, quiet Sub. Really? Bad girls are so much more fun. Gabi confuses him at every turn. She'll mouth off one moment, and turn submissive the next. He can't figure out what her issues are, and why she'd willingly cross the line when she knows what the consequences of her actions will be.

I loved Master Marcus, and not because he'd say things like ”Easy, sugar. You can take me--and you will.” He wasn't as overbearing as all the other Doms. He was tough, but he had a great sense of humor. He also seemed to be the only one of the guys who didn't really fight the attraction to his heroine.

Gabi was hilarious when she'd get into her role as the brat. What made it funnier was when some of the other hardened Doms would overhear her and choke on their drinks or sputter and try to hide a laugh. At least they showed they could be taken by surprise once in a while. Yes, there is still a lot of sex, and none of it is vanilla, but each interaction revealed a new layer of the character and usually to the character themselves.

The ending is full of suspense when Jessica and Gabi find themselves in deep trouble, and not with their Masters.

Ms Sinclair is still going strong when it comes to describing scenes that haven't been done before (at least not that I'm aware of): figging ... I'll never look at ginger root the same way ever again!

What can I say? I love this woman. She writes. I read. (More like devour) We have a great thing going.

FBI social worker Gabi played a little in clubs in college so when she volunteers to work on a case involving kidnapping of subbies, the agents take her up on it. (even though she is motivated because her friend is one of the victims).

She is assigned to play a trainee at Shadowlands. And Marcus is the new Master Trainer.

Seriously, having just finished it I can promise you my emotions were all over the place. I cried, then I'd laugh, then my knuckles were white in furry, then my stomach would churn in tension. Oh, how could I forget the lust??? Lot's o lust going on. Keep the hand fan close by. Or better yet, there is a blizzard as I write this.. go read in the snow.

This is one funny, sassy girl who is giving Jessica and Andrea a run for their money.

Jessica and Z have a strong sub plot running parallel. And you get progress reports on Beth/Nolan, Kari/Dan, and Cullen/Andrea. Plus all the regulars are there. Ya know- Sally, Raul.. the gang.

The creative Dom play (ie. torture the Doms refer to as training or need fufillment *rolls eyes*) abounds and entertains as always.

When you get to the puppy part, just know that I wept like a pregnant woman. I'll bet everyone else laughs, but I cried hard 'cause those doms were taking good care of her and doing it all to help her get over her past issues.

Now when you get to the birthday candle... it took me a good ten minutes to stop laughing. That was just classic. (get your minds out of the gutter. It wasn't dirty)

Fans are going to love it. Those new to the series need to know this is a steamy read. Oral/vaginal sex, anal play, menage, humiliation, exhibitionism, toys and mean doms who like to torture with them, mild pain, mild name calling/verbal humiliation, pet play (as opposed to pony play), bondage, dominance/submission... See. The reluctant or timid may want to start else where and grow into this story.

This book in the Shadowlands series was, in my opinion, the best one yet. We get in on an FBI investigation dealing in the sale of rebelious submissives. Well from the first four books in this series we know that the Shadowlands club has prime pickings for rebelious women.

Gabi, who's friend has been taken by this group of kidnappers, volunteers to go undercover as a bratty sub. Wow does she do a fabu job. The insults that spew from Gabi's mouth were hilarious! I was laughing out loud at some of the scenes.

But as I have come to expect from this author, I was quickly squirming in my seat the next. High squishy-level read here. Master Marcus is assigned by Z to take on Gabi as a new trainee. Wow. I will never look at a lawyer the same way again.

The sex scenes were hot. I'm talking steaming your way through an ice-storm, hot. But we get that heat because Cherise Sinclair has shown us characters that we get to know on such an intimate level, they feel more like friends than fictional images.

We also get more from Jessica and Master Z who we got to know in Club Shadowlands, the first novel. And while the other characters have made appearances in the other novels, we have a much more rounded cast in this book than we have in the past.

I feel like Sinclair is setting us up to embrace a Shadowlands family, rather than just a series of stories, and I can't wait for her to build that world for us.

I read this thing in a day. It was amazing. I laughed, I sighed, I squirmed, I...well hell you know what happens when you read a good erotic romance right?

This is one for the re-read pile. I can't wait for more from this author, everthing I have read from her just re-affirms why I have her on my auto-buy list. 5 stars.

Wow. I really loved this. I've read more than a handful of Sinclair's books now and I do not love every one of them but I do love her writing and the fact that she has carved out a niche for bdsm erotica. The pacing in this book was perfect and suspenseful. The setting was, as usual, lots of fun in a bdsm-scene-so-perfect-it-should-be-considered-a-fantasy way that Sincalir has going on with her Shadowlands series. I felt for both of the main characters. The scenes were spot on and entertaining, particularly the garden and when Marcus finally discovers what is happening. That is one of my favorite scenes ever. I felt so strongly for Gabrielle.

I think I especially connected with the book because I truly liked and respected both of the main characters. I tend to dislike at least one of Sincliar's leads, which doesn't upset me too much. I think in bdsm erotica, readers sympathize or relate to one character more than another, considering peoples' tendencies and interests. Yet this book had me all wrapped up in tension because I was looking forward to a happy resolution and even though I knew it was coming, getting there was intense and nerve wracking.

Highest recommendation.

LOVED IT!!!! Because I was impatiently waiting for Make Me, Sir I checked out the loose-id website around 11:30 pm the night before the release date. I was so excited to see it was available. I couldn't stop reading, I finished Make Me, Sir around 5:30 am, and had to be at work at 8:30 am =)

One of my favorite quotes from MMS "Even Jesus thinks you're a dumb-ass" from Gabi to Master Marcus

I don't want to go into detail becaus I don't want to spoil the book for anyone, but you won't be dissappointed in Master Marcus' story.

I love the way a prior Master and his sub played a big part in this story as well as getting to see what the rest of the Masters and their subs are doing.

Jessica and Kari are of my favorite "brats" Gabi is now included in my favorite "brat" group.

Master Dan & Kari and Master Z & Jessica have been my favorite stories, but now Master Marcus and Gabi are right up there with them.

Make Me, Sir may just have nudged itself to my favorite of the series.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first picked up Make Me, Sir. We didn't know Marcus too well, and Gabi was completely new to me. And it ended up being my favorite. Even after reading the rest of the series, Make Me, Sir remains my favorite book out of all the Masters of the Shadowlands.

Original thoughts: In short, though this book contained two of my least favorite tropes (deception and Big Misunderstanding), I loved how Cherise Sinclair handled them. It was perfectly balanced, and the characters dealt with it wonderfully, and believably.

The suspense storyline was extremely interesting, and I'm interested to see where this goes in the future (because it can't just be over).

Marcus and Gabi - *sigh* Love Marcus, love Gabi, love them together.

Wow!! I love this series but I absolutely LOVED Master Marcus and Gabi's story. Made my "best of the best" list. It was sassy, funny, real and loving and had enough suspense to keep me on the edge of my seat. The sex was unbelievably HOT and I felt that their connection was truly genuine. Loved it! I love the Masters of the Shadowlands series and can't wait to start Book 6 in a few minutes!!

By the way, Cherise Sinclair is a genius. She continuously introduces us to new characters, making this series infinite in possibilities. I can read about this group of people forever.

This isn't necessarily my favorite Shadowlands book/couple, but it was the best written book in the series. The plot was strong enough to withstand the sex scenes.
Gabrielle Renard, a social worker helping the FBI on a case, came to the Shadowlands to smoke out a human trafficking operation. Master Zachary "Z" assigned Master Dom Marcus Atherton to train her and thus began their journey to self discovery on both sides.

Best in the series so far! You just have to love Marcus!!! He was so sweet and charming, yet a super hot Dom! Gabi was great too, such a spunky personality. This book seemed a little longer with more of a story. I was happy to get to see a little more with Jessica and Master Z! Loved it!

Make Me, Sir by Cherise Sinclair

A nice and long satisfying read. This story is probably my second favorite of this series. Club Shadowlands with Master Z and Jessica still holds first place with me. These two characters, Master Marcus and Gabi, were so incredibly wonderful together. Gabi gave new meaning to the phrase ‘bratty sub’ and I loved every minute of it. Master Marcus thinks he prefers a compliant sub but that was before Gabi entered his life! Sometimes in life it’s good not to get want you want…but to get want you need…

This was a serious story with a plot and all that good stuff but so many other reviewers already went that route so I thought I’d expound on the humor in it. And Dang Was There Humor!!! I can’t recall reading a BDSM book that made me laugh so much.

There were so many lines in this story that had me laughing I had a difficult time deciding which ones to add as my favorites. This story also taught me some new terminology…“The fun we’ll have tonight is called figging.” It involves Ginger Root which I read about in another book so I wasn’t as surprised. Look it up and can I just say…DAM!!! We also were told a bit more about the apology Andrea didn’t get in her book ‘Lean on Me’ from Master Dan and Master Marcus. This was not the ‘bended knee’ apology I was looking for but better than nothing.

And so it starts with this first line which is Gabi’s opinion of 2 of the FBI agents she meets in the beginning of this story. I’m adding it because it’s so true. “New Englanders could be so brusque.” Another zinger to another FBI agent comes at the end “You are such a sleazeball, Rhodes—walking, talking proof of why siblings shouldn’t marry.”

Gabi’s first meeting with Master Marcus was so very memorable I had to add the paragraph.…
She took a second look at him, at his fancy tailored suit. Dark gray with pinstripes. Oh please, like she’d really believe he was a dom at all? “Gabrielle Anderson. Are you sure you’re Master Marcus?”

Gabi getting in to the swing of things at Club Shadowland gives herself a pep talk…Pull up your big-girl panties, Gabi.
...I have an image that's perfect to add here but I don't know how...yet..Help!

Funishment—not truly discipline produced lines like this…
“That’s a dumb-ass idea.” She was too angry to curb her mouth. “You’re a dumb-ass.” She tried to kick and got nowhere. “Even Jesus thinks you’re a dumb-ass.”

“You dickweed! Are you always stupid, or is today a special occasion?”

“You want to count, Gabrielle?” “One!” She sucked in a breath, mad enough the words slid right out. “You asshole, one!”

And the lines just keep getting better and funnier…
“You dumb-ass ape, get your hand off me. What—are you the first in your family to be born without a tail?”

“Oh lord and master. High muckety-muck.”

“I felt sorry for myself since my wimpy dom can’t catch a snail crossing the sidewalk.”

Snickering, Gabi widened her eyes at Marcus. “You mean you’re not God? Nooo, say it isn’t so!”

And he calls it playing? Like, whatever happened to chess? Or cards? Or tag?

“By the way, you have a fine ass. Sir.”

Gabi’s zingers are not reserved for only Master Marcus. Nope! This is one of my favorites addressed to Master Cullen…
“You know how really big guys are always nicknamed Tiny?” She didn’t wait for any response, afraid she’d chicken out. “Guess that would make you Master Munchkin, huh?”

Least you think Master Marcus is a wuss…Nope!
An older dom snorted. “Atherton uses the word escort loosely. The last time someone messed with a trainee, he threw the guy across the bar. Strolled over, waited for the idiot to stand up, punched his lights out, and dragged him by his jacket collar out of the place. Escorted him, my ass. Didn’t even wrinkle that fancy suit.” He took a sip of his beer and added, “Atherton is invariably polite, but nobody in their right mind f**ks with his trainees.”

My favorite scene was the Wax Play just because of how Gabi responded in her usual bratty fashion…This one will stay with me forever!

This next paragraph was between Master Z (sigh) and Jessica that I thought was wonderful. Jessica reasoning away the age difference between them…
“Okay, you’re older. Not much, really. And considering you love staying in shape and I refuse to run, we’ll probably get all old and crippled at the same time. If not, then I’ll learn to use a cane, and I’ll get to beat on your ass for a change.”

My favorite lines by Master Marcus…

“If you keep all those thoughts inside, your brain will explode,” he said lazily.

“What we have here is a failure to communicate,”

“Darlin’, I wasn’t just a Boy Scout, I was an Eagle Scout.”

I recommend this book because the story was wonderfully written and as a bonus it was hilarious…The End for now…

Make Me, Sir the fifth installment in Cherise's Masters of the Shadowlands was another fantastic addition to the series. It's also the longest to date. So, not only does she give us another great story, but more detail, more build-up to the relationships and more time to hang out with some of the hottest, sweetest Doms I've ever read.

In this story, Marcus, Master in charge of new trainees (which seems to be the position to be in if you wanna get your D/s HEA ;}), finds himself in charge of a sassy, back-talkin' sub, Gabi. He notices times when she's the perfect sub, so her occasional outbursts and showy disobedience doesn't make sense to him, even though he sometimes gets a kick out of it. Still, a good Dom must learn why a sub acts out and he's determined to figure Gabi out. He's surprised by his attraction to her, especially since "his ex-wife had loved to indulge in full-blown bratty behavior, not because she was inherently ornery, but for the show. She wanted the attention - not his, but everyone else's. Of all his subs, he particularly disliked the insolent and ill-disciplined ones."

Marcus is a lawyer by day, Dom by night. He is friendly, but reserved. He's liked by many of the subs at the club and he is working on building relationships with the other Masters at the club. Z seems him as "as fine dom with a profound sense of honor and protectiveness." Gabi sees him as "a stiff, conservative lawyer. Just like her father." Z's description is much closer to the truth.

I loved Gabi, she is an absolute riot! Her sense of humor had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion. She has a big heart, a necessity when you're a social worker. She loves Big Cat Rescue, me too! She is putting herself in a situation in which she's not 100% comfortable because she's trying to save a friend. Thankfully, she's put in the care of Marcus, who we all know will take extra good care of her. ;)

Favorite Quotes:
Marcus ~ "You act nervous as a long-tailed cat in a roomful of rocking chairs.”
Gabi ~ She glanced up at him and said loudly, “I can‟t believe that out of one hundred thousand sperm, you were the fastest.”

As always, I enjoyed seeing the other couples in the story. I have loved reading about their stories and enjoy it when they make appearances in future books.

Thank you, Cherise! May I have another? :D

Cherise Sinclair has a wonderful way of combining just the right amount of bondage and domination with romantic elements that appeal to the more "vanilla" reader. I think this is a great series for a reader who is curious about BDSM because it is very light on the edgier side of the scene--humiliation for instance.

This fifth book in the series was quite a bit longer than the others. IMO, Make Me, Sir was heavier on the romance between the oh-so-delicious Master Marcus and his stubborn trainee, Gabrielle. I loved that we got a glimpse of the progress of the relationships of the previous Shadowlands D/s.

I am not sure if this series is getting ready to wrap up, but I got that feeling as Sinclair gave us a lot of closure on past couples. If it is, that makes me sad :-(

The first five star in the series for me! Of course, there were still some parts that made me squirm and not in a good way! Throwin' around BJs is just not my idea of a turn on. And damn you, ginger root! I'll never cook Chinese food without thinking of Master Marcus...who by the way, is now tied with Master Nolan as my favorite Dom in my very limited D/s reading experience. He had a great sense of humor, which he really needed with his sub. Every time I heard , "Sir's lips twitched, then he roared with laughter," I swear I grinned. The title is so dead on, as well as the cover. I've noticed that about all of the Shadowlands books. The covers (gasp!) actually match the characters! Look at Master M, all stuffy and stodgy in his suit. Well, ladies and gentlemen, just you wait until you smart mouth him, as his 'little subbie' is careful to do repeatedly, all for the sake of putting on a show for her friends kidnappers.

I ADORED Gabi. She is the most down to earth woman, and absolutely is a match for Marcus. They are perfect together. There is also a LOT of the other Shadowlands Masters and their women, and the scales of commitment are firmly tipped toward happily ever after, which was a relief for me. I needed some closure on those relationships. For Master Z lovers, there is a ton of him and Jessica in this book.

Wonderfully emotional, perfectly pushes limits, and kept me on the edge of my seat, anxious to read Kim and Master Raoul's story.

I am a total sucker for the type of romance where the hero/heroine has to go undercover and then inadvertently falls in love with the love interest and then there is much angst when it is revealed that the hero/heroine has lied to and then the hero/heroine has to regain their trust somehow and then they live happily ever after. It sounds very formulaic, but I eat that type of thing up. What I expected from this book was an undercover romance with some steamy kinky sex scenes thrown in for spice. Unfortunately, the ratio of kinky sex to actual romance was waaaaay out of wack (like, 80% sex and 20% romance and plot). Much of the book was focused on actual BDSM practices, which isn't necessarily bad- but I wanted an actual romance with character development and relationship stuff instead of a relationship jacked up on sex. Unfortunately, this book didn't deliver. I don't know if it was just me, but I felt very uncomfortable reading the scenes where Marcus "punishes" Gabi or acting bratty, especially when he spanked here until she was crying and she looked like a racoon cause her tears had smudged her mascarra. Although she didn't use her safeword, she was telling him to stop, so it's disconcerting to rationalise that she wanted to be spanked to the point that she felt pain.

Welcome back to Shadowlands boys and girls - where the Doms will render you speechless and make you glad you came.

Gabi, a submissive social worker, goes undercover in the club for the for FBI. Apparently someone is abducting bratty subs from local BDSM clubs. Her friend was among those taken so she has major stake in this mission. She is paired with Master Marcus, and the heat between these two.. well, let's just say the sex was hot enough to start a fire on top of a glacier.

Gabi relished her bratty cover, and the stuff that came out of her mouth was priceless. Marcus's discipline of her behavior will have you squirming in your seat. I dare say that the "good puppy discipline" was equal parts hot and funny.

In my opinion Cherise Sinclair is the reigning mistress of BDSM. Her books are an automatic purchase for me. This book just came out and I'm already jonesing for her next one. Down girl....

4.5: I really loved this book. It was a great addition to this series. I loved Gabi's spunk and personality and how Marcus tended to her. I liked the suspense portion of the book as well. I LOL'd at many of Gabi's pithy insults to be bratty: Gabi to Marcus "I can't believe out of one hundred thousand sperm, you were the fastest!"

As always, nice to see the other masters and subs from this series as well.

A feisty redhead social worker with a little bit of submissive play experience under her garter belt, a courtly Dom with a black belt in martial arts, a bumbling FBI agent, and a gang of ruthless kidnappers. What do they have in common? Nothing, unless you are author Cherise Sinclair with “Make Me, Sir,” the fifth installment in her wickedly crafted Masters of the Shadow lands series. In this erotic thriller, someone is kidnapping submissives from bondage Clubs all over the Southeast. Gabrielle, a victim specialist working for the FBI, volunteers to be a decoy at a Tampa club called The Shadow lands. Few people know that Gabi is a plant, the club owner and a sour, incompetent FBI agent sent to be her backup. At times, it is not clear who is the bigger threat, the Agent or the kidnap ring, and for Gabi the threat was very real. This reader was happy to follow her into a BDSM world where there might be no safe words.

Wait, there is more. The sting operation is run by two other FBI guys. They are stern, but not sour, they are very competent, and they are accomplished Doms. (I’m starting have more respect for the FBI every minute.) Then there is Master Marcus, a regular member of the Shadow lands club, a colorful, competent Dom, with bodice ripping good looks. He is a trainer assigned to “break in” the new girl. One look at him and our girl goes all warm and runny on the inside. The kidnappers seem to be looking for bratty subs, so Gabi must resist everything Master Marcus is doing, so she will attract the attention of the bad guys. Marcus knows she is deliberately resisting, but he has no idea why. He senses there is a real woman hiding inside, one he might have real feelings for, if only he could break through her defenses.

This is an age old setup. Tragedies and farces have been built around deceit between men and women. Comic operas end with the couples chastely back where they belong, all is forgiven and the cast toasts the audience with champagne. Tragedies end, well, tragically; the Montagues and Capulets bury their young. Often our lies are based on the best of intentions, and often, we live to regret. In “Make Me, Sir” the web of deceit is complexly woven. As readers, we see the mistakes being made, we are excited by the spanking that is applied as a result, and then we despair when the true cost of the mistake is revealed. Will the heroes be disciplined enough to save the heroines? Will the heroines trust enough to save the heroes? Will the cavalry ride to the rescue, or will they need to be rescued themselves? Everything is possible right up until the very end of the story.

There is one other facet to this book. The characters are richly drawn, with enough back story so the reader has an understanding of the characters motivations. This is true of the minor characters, not just the main couple. Especially, well crafted relationships between the Doms and their subs. I gained a new understanding and respect for that relationship. I hope to practice some of what I learned in my own relationships, maybe as soon as I finish this review. This is a good read, hard hitting in all the right ways. The sex scenes are as hot and steamy as a summer night in Tampa, plenty of BDSM, and romance too. All teetering on the edge of life and death. Get it; read it; you won’t be sorry.
