Sweetness: Delicious Baked Treats for Every Occasion

Dining Downloads posts: "This cookbook is written by the winner of Food Network’s Challenge (Dinosaur Cake episode)"

When 27-year-old Sarah Levy opened her own pastry shop in 2004, she was barely out of college. She hails from a noted Chicago-based restaurant dynasty, but the success she's achieved has been all hers, and she's since gone on to open a second location inside Macy's. Sweetness shows how anyone can make delicious desserts and sweet snacks regardless of cooking experience (or lack thereof) — especially younger women who may not have a lot of kitchen training, but want to have a few go-to recipes for events, gifts, or that special someone. This is the book for readers who want to learn how to make top-quality treats that will knock the socks off anyone who samples them. Levy’s warm personality, step-by-step instructions, and vibrant color photos make this the perfect addition to the bookshelf of both budding chefs and seasoned pros.

Such a cute little book with some Greta recipes. I like that she has recipes for all skill levels and is completely upfront about some of them being hard to master. I also appreciate she put more easy recipes in then hard ones. I found her tips to be very detailed, but hopefully super helpful once I actually get around to making some of these.

Sweetness: Delicious Baked Treats for Every Occasion
Methods and techniques and lots of secrets from many in the family go into this cookbook.
A treasure of elegant desserts that will impress anybody, just by looking at them, never mind eating them.
Important information about tools, different terms and other tips are included along with very high color photos.
Recipes are broken up into sections, getting ingredients together, sometimes ahead of time to get them to room temperature, all the tools you will need and very easy to follow step by step by step by step instructions.
No nutritional information. Carrot cakes would be my favorite to try with some ingredient substations as we eat a lot healthier now.
Perfect treats for all events in one's life.

Great, great recipes in this little kindle freebie and it would have been worth the $$ price for some of the recipes in the book.

The author rates the recipes in the book for ease factor. I will say that I had to disagree with some of the recipes that she rated as "easy". As someone who has been baking for over 30 years, I do think that novice bakers would have difficulties with recipes she has rated as easy. Second, the book contains a large number of more difficult recipes, so in my humble opinion, this isn't for the novice baker, but the recipes she gives are restaurant or bakery quality.

What I love most about Sweetness is that it not only includes Sarah's favorite recipes from her shop and The French Pastry School of Chicago, but also her family traditions and treats from her childhood (she includes Pillsbury chocolate cake mix in one recipe). There are recipes for the novice baker as well as recipes challenging enough for those more experienced. The photography itself is guaranteed to make your drool. If you're remotely interested in baking, you're gonna want this book on your shelf.

Disappointing and lackluster--something you would expect to find on the $3 bargain rack--and more pedestrian than I would have expected. Most of the recipes are attributed to other bakers and garnished with empty title descriptors like 'righteous', 'amazing', and 'fantastically', along with the oft overused 'decadent' and 'sinful' to describe the chocolate recipes. Uninspiring.
