Sequel to the Amber Allure best-seller Your Cheatin' Heart...
Sylver Starr is a werewolf by birth, a cross-dresser by desire, and a secret agent for Earth Guardians, Inc.—although that last is beginning to wear a bit thin. Take tonight, for instance. Posing as participants, Sylver and his partner infiltrate the brutal blood-sport of dog fighting. Their mission is to rescue a kidnapping victim. Unfortunately, the victim is a giant mastiff who shows no sign of cooperating. Abused by his captors and trained to kill, he seems more interested in ripping Sylver to shreds. Understandable, but painful nonetheless. To Sylver, who knows the dog’s history, the situation is infuriating and heartbreaking.
And Sylver’s partner adds to the stress by being...well, himself. Sexy and aggravating in the same breath. He’s the great Hunter Steele—founder and chief of Earth Guardians, Inc.—a billionaire cat-shifter with a serious James Bond complex. Hunter cooks up these plots, and Sylver gets stuck with the dirty dishes. Always. For a werewolf, it’s not easy taking orders from a cat. Put it all together and Sylver’s had a bellyful. After this mission, there won’t be another. It’ll be bye-bye EG.
And hello Hunter’s rage, because no one quits his team—especially not Sylver. They’re not just work partners. In shifter terminology, the canine-feline pair are each other’s divinely appointed life-mates. Go figure. If this is a match made in heaven, someone up there has a lot of explaining to do. It’s difficult enough being married to your polar opposite, but when your spouse is also your boss, nerves will be rubbed raw—along with fevered flesh, because neither man is above using seduction to get his way. And both have their own brand of sizzle. In fact, if the two live long enough for this battle of wills to reach the bedroom, it’s anyone’s guess who will emerge on top. Then again, maybe it doesn’t matter. This is one sport, after all, where the winner may take all, but the “loser” still gets a big prize...

The very long, in my opinion, blurb basically tells you the story. You are tossed in immediately to the action as with the first book which gives a real sense of tension and danger. Hunter and Sylver are undercover in a dog fighting ring, trying to rescue the kidnapped dog. As usual, Hunter is reading Sylver’s mind and making him crazy, and Sylver is a bit of a scatterbrain with a tendency to have his thoughts wander here and there during a tense moment such as a dog fight.
I had wondered if the wacky syfy vibe of the first book would continue with the series and while there is still a lot of humour, in my opinion the subject matter of dog fighting, which is a very real issue, brings this book into a more serious realm. There is still wicked banter between the two lovers, but with an underlying message of bringing awareness to an ugly problem. There is also less emphasis in this story on Sylver being a cross-dresser. He really only dressed up a bit at the end for their romantic interlude..
This book takes place sometime after the first. It seems that Hunter is working on being more faithful, although he’s still a bit of an arrogant ass who drives Sylver crazy. However something that they both admit, is that the fighting, arguing and hot temper are foreplay to them, and leads to even hotter sex. I think perhaps this is why I am having a bit of trouble really relating to them as a couple because I am the exact opposite, and the kind of relationship they have would turn me off, not on.
I did enjoy this volume more than the first, I got a better sense of their relationship, and I believe now that despite what a jerk Hunter can be, Sylver really does love him and vice versa. It also took a bit more serious look at things, although it’s not “drama” by any means and is still light and enjoyable. I think the couple may really appeal to some people who find their interactions amusing, realizing that under the fighting there is great love. But it may not be the type of relationship that appeals to all readers. I’m looking forward to seeing where the next installment takes the couple and the story.
Sylver Starr is a cross-dressing werewolf. His husband, Hunter Steele, is a 12-lb pussycat. Together, they’re a force to be reckoned with.
Once they get past their own personal disputes, that is.
These two go undercover to infiltrate an animal fighting ring. Sylver is in his white wolf form (passing as an unusual form of Siberian Huskie), and Hunter is his black boot-wearing handler. The plan is to telepathically tell the object of the fight that they are come to free him.
Things don’t go quite as planned when they realize the Grand Champion isn’t exactly in his right mind and wants to fight Sylver—to the death?
The second book in the Sylver & Steele series is funny, smart, and sexy. I love these two more with each book. My only complaint is length—the book ends too soon and leaves me wanting more.
If you want a tasty, witty bite, this is for you. There are at least three more books in the series, that will have to do for now.
I really enjoy this series. The books are short but the relationship between Sylver and Hunter is magic. It seems that this pair are not happy unless they're arguing or fighting or screwing each other into the mattress! Love it :)
Carries the same tone from the first book and is a short read. The ending felt a bit too abrupt for me but it was still an enjoyable read. There's just something about Sylver and Hunter that grows on you as you learn more about them.
