Emotionally wounded single mom Sarah Price has come home to Serenity, South Carolina, for a fresh start. With support from her two best friends—the newest generation of the Sweet Magnolias—she can face any crisis.
But sometimes a woman needs more than even treasured friends can provide. Sexy Travis McDonald may be exactly what Sarah's battered self-confidence requires. The newcomer is intent on getting Sarah to work at his fledgling radio station…and maybe into his bed, as well.
Sarah has learned not to trust sweet words. She'll measure the man by his actions. Is Travis the one to heal her heart? Or will he break it again?
With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.
"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."
The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.
Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.
A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.
Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.
In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.
When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.
I had already purchased the audiobooks for most of the series or I would have skipped books 5-7 after the horrendous book 5 featuring Annie. This generation of the Sweet Magnolias are stupid and extemely judgemental and hypocrital. The entire premise behind Sarah's hesitation in getting involved with Travis is that he was a player with the female baseball groupies when he was playing pro ball. Hmmmmm, let's see: Travis was never romantically involved with a woman & was up front with the groupies on what he was willing to give. Tyler was supposedly in love with his soulmate and still had his hookups with the groupies even knocking one up. But Travis is the scum not to be trusted? And as is typical, Annie shows up being judgemental of Travis. She's the worst character in the series and ruins the story for me anytime she shows up!
The side story of Travis' father was ridiculous and just left hanging at the end of this book. Sarah was frustrating in her logic after dealing w Travis' father & Trina. In putting down Travis yet again, she stated the predictor of future behavior is past behavior; and stated that he'd be just like his father. Of the group of the Sweet Magnolias and their spouses, we have adultery, cheating, pregnancy to trap, mental issues, extreme lack of self esteem, and failed marriages. Travis himself had none of that yet was the character constantly put down in this book. Horrible book!
Do yourself a big favor and if you want to go through the series - Skip books 5-7! You won't miss anything but stupidity.
I am a huge fan of Sherryl Woods and have been known to scour bookstores on days of new releases to get her books. However, this book, in the long line of Sweet Magnolias, lacked something. I am still trying to figure out what that "something" was. There was a lack of credibility from Walter's character - why would he change so quickly? I didn't buy Travis' attraction to Sarah - it seemed pretty convenient. There was no build up of a relationship with Travis and Sarah's children. It was all wrapped up with a pretty bow but no substance. Of course I am marking the days until the next installation with the hope that this was a fluke.
#6 Tai jau šeštoji Puikiosios Magnolijos dalis. Ir visos jos man savaip įdomios, nes kiekviena gvildena tam tikras moters, šeimos, santykių problemas.
After being stuck in a verbally and emotionally abusive marriage, Sarah Price has divorced her husband and moved with her two kids back to her home town of Serenity, South Carolina.
She is working as a waitress in the local restaurant when she attracts the attention of a mysterious newbie to the town. Travis McDonald is also making some major changes in his life, and Sarah is just the kind of woman he needs.
This is my second book by this author, and probably my last. While the author does a great job of peeking my interest in the characters she creates, her ‘voice’ is just too old fashioned for me. I felt like I was reading a story my great-grandmother would write, and I just couldn’t truly get into the characters as much as I wanted to because of that.
The dialogue is also really old fashioned and I found myself repeatedly wondering aloud who the heck talks like that? I was really interested in the three women this part of the series is spotlighting, but in the end found myself skimming here and there over tedious dialogue and scenes which felt like unnecessary filler.
This story may appeal and be well received my many people, unfortunately I am not one of them. I like my characters a little more modern, down to earth and realistic, the drama to be a little less dramatic and my sex scenes a whole lot steamier. I have the next book in the series already at home, however I don’t think I will even bother reading it.
It was a good book. It felt weird and forced at times. The dependency on the flaws of the characters really annoyed me. It was like we were moving forward and then all of a sudden back at square one. It was a cute love story and I did enjoy it overall.
I’m not 100% sure why I keep reading these. The first 3 books were wonderful! I guess I’m always hopeful that these will get better. First of all, please no more baseball players. We’ve had enough of those. Every story line has been about a guy convincing a woman that she does, indeed, love him. Literally every book! Not going to lie, I’ll probably read the rest of them, just in the hope that we get a different storyline eventually. Plus, I do love Serenity!
Another great Sweet Magnolias novel with old familiar friends. I enjoyed how this is the new generation of magnolias with our old friends still in the series, too.
I didn't like this book as I did the previous ones in the series. Sarah's negative thoughts on starting a relationship was repetitive over and over throughout the book to the point where I wanted to put the book down. I would have liked to read less about her and more about Rory.
Kaip smagu sugrįžti į pamėgtą/pamiltą miestelį ir sutikti jo gyventojus vėl. Ir su dar viena besivystančia meilės istorija, su savo iššūkiais ir skausmais. Tikras malonumas skaityti, kai norisi atsipalaiduoti. Ir norisi dar.
I enjoyed Sarah’s story. The women of serenity being insecure and stubborn is not something I will be able to get away from apparently, so once I remove that portion it was an enjoyable read, minus Annie. I’ve been all for Annie and her story as a teen but my god she was annoying in this book.
Sweet Tea at Sunrise is #6 in the Sweet Magnolia series. It is the second one in a trilogy about the younger generation in this South Carolina town. It is the story of Sarah, friend of Annie and Raylene who is now living with Sarah.
Sarah has come through a difficult divorce, her past husband eroded her self-esteem by continually picking on her and pointing out her faults. Therefore it is difficult for her to believe it when Travis starts to pay attention to her. Unlike her past husband - Walter, he has only positive things to say. Will she believe him?
Sarah is a great mother, a forgiving woman and also a talented one. I loved seeing her go from strength to strength on the new local radio station. It was also interesting to see how her relationship develops with Travis and alongside that how Walter is tangled up in it all. Travis' dad is not a great role model and for quite awhile Sarah seems to get mixed up with the idea that the apple does not fall far from the tree! What is Travis real nature, is he is own man and can Sarah trust him. I loved Raylene's gentle prodding in this area.
All the usual characters waft in and out of the story, it seems a lot of them are pregnant, so the town is soon to have a boost in population. Sherryl Woods always writes a good story and this one is just that.
Serenity will never be the same. Sarah is back in town, with her two kids hoping to move on with her life. She isn't the only one back in town -- Travis, who is Tom's cousin is coming to Serenity. He has plans of his own. He comes into Wharton's everyday where Sarah is waitressing, hitting on her a bit. However the more he gets to know her the more he likes. When he decides to put a local radio station on the air and hire Sarah, things get crazy between him and Sarah..
Another Sweet Magnolia, Raylene has moved back as well. But she has problems leaving the house, staying with Sarah temporarily. I wonder if she will be in the next book, maybe her and Walter? That would be awesome!!!
As Sarah comes to know who she is and where that fits in with Travis, you will love being along for the ride. Sherryl Woods always knows exactly what readers want, and this is no exception. If you haven't read any of the other books, that is ok. Although you might not want to ruin the surprise from book to book, they do stand alone! Enjoy... get yourself a glass of sweet tea and join them in Serenity!
This is a beautiful contemporary romance. We're introduced to Sarah Price. A recent divorcee and mother of two, who wanted a clean slate from her messy divorce to her home in Serenity, South Carolina. I, as a reader, rallied for Sarah. My heart broke, when she endured such a hardship from her husband Walter and his verbal abuse. We witness her low self-esteem and having no trust for me. When Travis enters into Sarah's life, we can really see the sparks flying between the two in a hate/love relationship. He didn't give up on her. He's a champion in my opinion. Although both of them have baggage, like Travis being known as a player and former ball player. We do see a lot of changing also in Serenity--even Walter, Sarah's ex, who wants to be a better father and ex-husband for each other. Second chances is the best way to explain it. I'm happy to see one for Sarah with a happy ending.
There’s a quite clear common theme to these books and it’s getting old pretty fast. Nothing is ever a shock, it’s pretty easy to see what’s going to happen. And half of the plot points have been used in the series already. There’s also an awful lot of borderline-non-consent to things in this series that happen time and time again. Because I am who I am I’m finishing the series but I kinda can’t wait to be finished. I think there’s great potential with this whole series, but most of it all misses its mark. What perhaps really grinds my gears is that it’s become apparent in each story thus far is that apparently a woman can not be happy, whole, complete, or have a worthwhile life without a man by her side, and that more often than not is complete with a rocky short lived romance, and the day the couple gets back together they also get engaged.
I enjoyed this foray into the Sweet Magnolias. Sarah divorced her husband after 4 years of emotional abuse. Travis is a washed-out pro-baseball player who never thought he had what it took to settle down until he found Serenity and Sarah. He decides to put his college degree to work and open up the local radio station. Sarah and Travis are a cute pair and the other Sweet Magnolias are woven in and out of the action. The story was a little too sweet for me. Not in an imitation way but simply in it's long drawn-out development of the relationship - of everyone's relationship. I didn't mind the lack of sex so much as I minded the lack of any physicality between Sarah and Travis except for a few kisses. It's a nice story but it wasn't compelling.
My Least favorite of all the books so far. I understand Metal Abuse. I've been there, but this book makes it like you can never move past it, that it will always bring you down and make you not trust again, maybe because of my personal experience with it, but I hate that this book described the heroine as a strong women, but then keeps coming back to doubting. And the one friend keeps telling her that once a player always a player married the Man that Cheated on her!! Also punishing someone for their Parents mistakes by thinking they are going to be just like them (playing the Field and Cheating) when they have time and again proven you differently is just self indulgent and hateful. this book is AWEFUL!
I have enjoyed all the Sweet Magnolia series, and, as with all her books, enjoy the characters and their interactions. While the support and help these unrelated people give to one another is well done and satisfied my feelings for them, I do identify more with the original friends than with these newer, younger women. That is probably a function of my age and relationship with my own closest friends, but the book was a fun read and the romances were a good mix of love and missed communications.
Another great book in the Sweet Magnolias series. I really loved how the relationship between Travis and Sarah unfolded, I was rooting for her since she came back to the series. She had a hard life, and I wanted her to be happy in the end. I love my books with HEA endings. Sherryl Woods is phenomenal at creating an emotional story that drags you in and makes you hope for the best for the characters.
I also love being able to see past characters in the story.
I love the chemistry that Sarah and Travis have and also how Travis courted Sarah. I love that there are second chances not just with love but also with yourself.
I love that there are such great friends whom you can turn to in times of happiness, sadness and in moments where you need solace and advice.
This is truly a heartwarming story. I can't wait for the next book to be out.
This is the second tale of one of the younger generation of Sweet Magnolias. It was interesting to read about the young woman and how she was treated by her soon to be ex-husband and her new life to come. The author also shows us a little about being agoraphobic (one of the secondary characters) and how it afftects peoples lives.
Cute and predictable. Maybe I would of enjoyed it more if I had read the previous book. I actually liked reading about Mary Vaughn and Sonny over the Magnolias themselves
Going to read the previous book next and I really would like to read about Raylene too.
