Casino owner Darren Turner is astonished and angry when his ex-lover, a notorious casino cheat, shows up at his casino. Unfortunately, Noah refuses to leave unless Darren agrees to a most unusual wager: he gets two weeks to try to win Darren back. Darren agrees just to get rid of the man, but is determined not to risk his heart again. When the time is up, will Darren win it all or lose everything?
By day, I am a middle school teacher. I spend much of my time grading papers, filling out paperwork, and trying to get 6th- and 7th- graders to read.
When I am not at work, I can generally be found at the computer, dreaming up stories about men falling in love. When I have spare time (which is unfortunately not too often anymore!) I read romance of all kinds. Occasionally I pretend to do housework, but my hubby isn't fooled!
Noah disappeared in the middle of the night leaving his lover Darren heartbroken and angry! 18 months later Noah comes back, changed and wanting a second chance, and Darren gives him two weeks. I wanted more, it was a good story but just too short. I didn't feel the relationship, tension or the conflict as much as I wanted to, and I wasn't in on all the conversations where Noah was sharing his history and where they were falling back into love. It felt like a condensed version and I wanted the expanded edition!
Noah returns to Las Vegas after 18 months to win the heart of his former lover, Darren. He makes a bet with the older man that within two weeks he will be able to make Darren trust him. Darren, on the other hand, is determined not let Noah breaks his heart again. It's just two weeks. But who will win? Emotional and kind of angsty story with my favorite theme "The One Who Got Away" :). By the time it reaches the end, I have my heart squeezed and then smile with happiness
Second chance usually comes in by surprise. Not for Noah (aka Joey). He has to work for it since he left Darren 18 months ago. A professional con man, Noah met Darren almost two years ago, when he was playing at one of Darren's gambling tables. He cheated, but nobody could prove it, so the security brought him to the casino manager's office. Upon seeing Darren, Noah couldn't help himself. He invited Darren to dinner. Since nothing could be proven, and he was attracted to the man, Darren accepted. After dinner, they had amazing sex that night. One thing led to another, Noah moved in. After three months, however, Noah caught himself in a situation that scared him to death, so he left Darren without even leaving him a note. Noah tried to forget about Darren, but he couldn't. So now, he came back to have a second chance. Knowing that Darren would not just take him back, Noah made a wager: He'd prove that he has changed if he'd been given a chance to work as security consultant for one month. If he won, they'd get back together. I he lost, he'd never be in Vegas again. Darren agreed, but only gave him two weeks. Would Noah be able to win the wager? Everything seems to be smooth, until Noah's old mentor, a mafia boss, comes to their casino.
I enjoyed reading this book. Short one, but it's quite engaging. The alternate point of views make us see how each character feels about the other. It's very romantic, but not without stirring your heart a bit.
The story is great! Short, but I like the emotions, and the fact that I got the chance to be in both characters' heads. It made me cry, which I wasn't expecting, but is a great plus.
It's exactly what I was looking for - short, fast read, but not suffering from lack of emotions. I should be more careful what I wish for. Now I wish it had been longer.
Probably I should have started with that, but I love characters with fast minds and hands, who outsmart casinos and their security measures. Another plus.
Noah is a gambler. One year and half before he has found his way to the heart of Darren, a Vegas Casino owner. For three months they had an almost idilliac life, but when things got serious, Noah flyed away. Wasting his time in gambling and one night stands has proved to Noah that what he had with Darren is the only real and important thing, and now he is back to convice Darren to forgive him. He has only two weeks to win his last gamble and to do so he has to reveal all his hidden cards.
Darren is not willing to lose his heart another time. He is too near to forty to take risk and Noah has once betrayed him in the worst way. But even if he is a tought businessman, when faced with the younger man he seems to not have defence.
The story is not much complicated. It's enjoyable even if not too sexual: despite my feeling buying this one, it's more the tale of a tender wooing than of a seduction. Noah plans to conquer Darren not with sex but with love. So in the end it's more a romantic tale than an erotic one.
