Doc,” Pete said. “Listen to me very carefully. We have roughly thirty trainees and about three times that full-time employees. Some of those people are very close friends of yours that you care for greatly.”
“I have no idea where you’re going with this,” Doc said.
“You’re leaving for five days, and Bailey is the only one who gets special instructions and a detailed meal plan?”
Doc mulled the words over, trying to think if there was anyone else in their company who needed such close monitoring.
“C’mon. It’s not so bad. I was trying not to make it obvious, so how were you to know?”
“You hired a flock of doves!”
“Don’t say it so loud…Arne might hear!”
“And gave me coded messages in flower language!”
“Subtle, I know.” Bailey looked like he wanted to pat himself on the back.
“I thought you were joking! How did I think you were joking?”
