I have loved Shane since I first met him in Black Wedding. A troubled, teenage heir to a rival Family, taken in by Bree after a grave misstep. His character had so much potential - and to finally get his story made my heart happy.
To see Shane forced to take up the mantle, as head of the Marcushio Family at the tender age of 19, and become ‘Vinnie’ - the person he despised, and had tried so hard to distance himself from, hurt. But knowing he had to separate from his best friend, and one true love, Ryleigh, was damn near heartbreaking. Going from being in the protective bosom of the Doughty’s to being their enemy, at times felt like a step too far for Shane, and his relationship with Ryleigh.
Packed with nail-biting action, subterfuge and intense passion - The Time is Now was a truly engaging read, and has cemented, for me, the allure and quality of this ongoing series. I’m in it for the long haul.
I can tell you without a single doubt that Shane and Ryleigh are by far my favorite couple of the series!! I love everything about their story and I’m dying for more!
The Time Is Now is a dark mafia romance that follows a friends to enemies to lovers, forbidden romance with so much angst! Ryleigh and Shane have so much history and so much to offer each other. They are already steamy to the max! I was in tears, I laughed, I got slightly angry, but that definitely felt like a good book. There is so much to their relationship that played it perfectly with these characters. There were twist and turns that keep the story going. I don’t know to say too much and spoil it but just know that this book is so so good!
This book set up for the next book at the end and I’m excited to see where it goes! I’m so involved in this series and love these characters! I can’t wait for more! I definitely recommend The Time Is Now for others to read!
The Time is Now by Emma Luna is book 4 in the Beautifully Brutal Series. This is the story of Shane and Ryleigh. I do think it helps to read the previous books which are interconnecting to fully enjoy this one but you could make it a standalone book. Shane and Ryleigh had a friendship since they were younger but things happened that pulled them apart. But, now they are getting their chance at happiness in this book. Enjoyed.
I was worried about this book to be honest because friends to lovers just ain't my favorite trope to read but i was very intrigued by how Ryleigh was going to be like but also i was interesting in knowing what would happen after the events of the previous book.
I must say I was pleasantly surprised by Ry. She seemed like a reckless and bratty girl in previous books but in here she is a rebel and a bit of a reckless side but she is smart. She doesn't puts herself in danger because she's mad at someone or just because she feels like it. She made smart decisions and that's what i appreciated the most about her. She was a bit frustrating in the beginning for me because it was more than obvious how in love Shane was for her but she just never really considered it an option and much of the same went to Shane too but with him i was okay with because he gave her hints and whatnot but she just wouldn't see it as such. After all of that and they went separate ways because of what happened in the previous book, Shane became a man. Before he felt like a boy to me but in this book he felt very mature and certain of himself for a 19 year old. I really appreciated every chapter in his pov and see how much Bree made a change in his life. Bree and the Doughty's really left their mark in the best way possible in Shane and that shine through in this story. One of the beautiful moments in this story is when every single Doughty shows their love and how they are willing to do everything to protect who they love. I loved how Shane is taking over his family and i loved the way he did it and i honestly can't wait for more on that front.
Brandon, the psycho. Is it wrong that i don't dislike him? Probably but i feel like there's a lot more going on with him and i sort of want his story. He is a very intriguing character and i want more. There were little "clues" throughout the book that makes me think there's something more at play here. I hope he ends up living. The kids, little Nate and Hallie, are the best. I honestly would feel pity if someone has a little monster like Hallie but she's so cute and fun. I can't help but love the little girl. Nate is a quite baby but i wonder how alike he will be to his parents.
The revelations wasn't really a revelation to me. The moment Desmond reacted to Ry the way he did in the church, i knew that wasn't the end so i wasn't worried per say. I did still had a great time finally knowing everything that happened behind the curtain and what's coming next has me very nervous but I know everyone will pull through ( *eyeing Ms. Emma 👀).
I've loved Shane since meeting him in the previous books where he was taken in by Bree, but after the last book I knew this one was going to tear me apart 😭
Shane is a troubled teen, he's not had it easy growing up, but after being taken under Bree's wing he formed a strong, beautiful friendship with Ryleigh 🥰 however, we all knew it was much more than just friendship 😏
Shane has the weight of the world on his shoulders now though, and the last thing he wants to do is drag Ryleigh into this mess, but she's not about to just give up on her best friend!
Ryleigh's rebellious streak was everything! I loved that she wasn't afraid to put herself at risk for what she believed in, even if I also wanted to strangle her for it 😂
The forbidden element in this story had me biting my nails, and wanting to bang their heads together because everyone could see what they had!
Emma has such a beautiful way of weaving a story, all the breadcrumbs are there right in front of us we just need to piece them together. This is beautifully written Emma 😍
I can't wait for more from this series and to find out what happens next 🖤
We meet Shane in Black Wedding and I have just loved him from day 1 - so I’ve been waiting for this book - and it did not disappoint me. With the last book, it ended where Shane had to take back his old life to save his love ones. This is friends to enemies, to lovers romance and I’ve got to say; these two are my favourite couple. This book has it all. From action, steamy moments, love, revenge and so many twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end. I can’t wait to see how this story ends.
I am loving where this series is going. Watching all of these characters continue to build off one another is everything I love when reading an interconnected series such as Beautifully Brutal.
Shane and Ryleigh deserved an easier start to their love story but what happened created such a stronger bond between the two. The forbidden aspect of this book was so well played.
I'm always in search of a mafia book that does the trope justice. This does that and more. It is an exceptional series that captivates you. I believe it is an art to write. This is a work of art. Very addictive!
We now have Shane and Ryleigh’s story! Shane piqued my curiosity when we first met him in the series (it might help to read the prior book for more enjoyment of these characters and world). He definitely has had a troubled youth and this has shaped some of his actions and thoughts. We see Ryleigh as a strong heroine here, even if she might be vulnerable at times. The two of them make a good pair and you root for them throughout. The plot was fast paced and flowed well.
I loved this book so much. What a rollercoaster ride that was. Shane and Ryleigh's story has me completely hooked. I wasn't expecting to be so emotional whilst reading it. It was action-packed and I'm so ready to read the next instalment of this incredible series. Amazing five-star read that I couldn't and wouldn't put down. I may have forgotten to be an adult whilst reading it.
Just finished an ARC of this one and absolutely recommend it! This series in general is just so amazing and you will definitely fall in love with the characters. If you love dark romance this is a must read. Shane & Ry's romance in this book was written fantastically. I can't wait to see what happens next.
The Time Is Now is another spectacular novel from one of my all time favorite dark romance authors. Her exceptional storytelling with interesting characters, a unique plot, and fast-paced action & suspense ensnared my attention and kept me on tenterhooks under the very end!
The Time Is Now is a dark, romantic, mafia suspense set within this author’s Beautifully Brutal world - it is book 4 in the series and I recommend reading the prior novels first. Shane and Ryleigh are the best of friends but, there is an underlying current of attraction that leaves them both wondering if and should there be more to their relationship. Yet, suddenly and unexpectedly these two end up on opposing sides and a relationship between them seems doomed. Is it possible that Time will ever be on their side?
A relatively strong heroine, I adored Ryleigh’s feisty and passionate nature as well as admired her big heart. She is known as being reckless which can be both a downfall but also an asset. She is young at 19 years-old and along with her brashness, she does at times make some rather questionable decisions. Nonetheless, her character really grew on me.
As for Shane, this young man pulled at my heartstrings. Thrown into an impossible situation, he has a lot thrust upon his shoulders and is at risk for giving up pieces of himself. He meets challenges head on and is clever. He is a rather interesting character and I like how the author illustrated his sweetness & protectiveness as well as his possessiveness.
There is an overarching storyline that is threaded throughout all of the Beautifully Brutal novels and as such the this made the romance between Ryleigh and Shane rather fascinating and complicated. I do feel that the author approached their unique relationship in a well thought out manner. Their connection was tangible and the steam level was all sorts of spicy!
As much as this is a romance between Ryleigh and Shane, there is major progression with the underlying mafia storyline. It was wonderful to see the characters from the previous books - to see what roles they played as well as how things are going after their HEA. Of course, I must mention the villains - yes plural! - as they truly are horrible and oh how I loathe them! There is a lot of suspense and action and I did enjoy the twists that occurred throughout the book. Some of twists I suspected and some caught me by surprise. While this is a dark romance, this is not the darkest novel in the series and I really did enjoy the story in its entirety. I cannot wait to see what will happen next!

Tropes: dark mafia romance, contemporary, forbidden, friends to enemies to lovers
Growing up the youngest Doughty meant life wasn't normal for Ryleigh. She never wanted the life she was dealt, but she had no choice but to embrace her legacy. Because of their family name and power, they had targets on their backs, so she had to be prepared. Being sent to boarding school was for protection. She met Shane there. Her brothers took him in while she helped chase away the nightmares of his tortured past. She ignored the desire because she didn't want to lose their friendship. Then, he betrayed her in the most brutal way. He went from her best friend to her enemy, and now she wants answers.
Another great book in this continuing series. Even though each book focuses on a different relationship, there is a continuing plot. You need to read from the beginning with "Black Wedding." I am addicted to this world, and each book grabs my attention and refuses to let go. I love forbidden romance, and since these two are from rival families, it fed my addiction well. I stayed on the edge of my seat while I turned pages late into the night. I highly recommend this read. This is my honest opinion, freely given.
I completed an ARC read of this book. This author is so consistant with delivering books with all the feels, details, page turning, and wraps things up nicely! These characters set the stage for a captivating storyline its intriguing to follow the characters through the mafia world. It holds your attention , action packed, keeps you thinking and wondering, dramatic, and lots of character chemistry . A great read! Look forward to reading more by this author.
The Time Is Now, the fourth story in the Beautifully Brutal series by the fabulous Emma Luna us a dark mafia romance that doesn’t hold back and did NOT disappoint!!!
This is the story of Shane, whom me met previously in this series, and his best friend Ryleigh, our beloved reckless rebel of a heroine. With a warm caring heart you just can’t help but fall in love with her—even at times you may be screaming “what are you doing?!?” in your mind.
I loved Shane from the very beginning as his troubled past and his story just grabs a hold of you right from the start. Watching him grow and from friendships and bonds, despite everything, was absolutely amazing. All he wanted was to protect Ryleigh and keep her safe from everything crumbling around him—however Ryleigh being Ryleigh wound have none of that!
I absolutely loved their friendship and how the tension was always there, hidden below the surface. And just when you started to have hope—bam! Emma yanks the rug out from under you and it seems like their time will never come as their relationship is nice again doomed as they find themselves on opposite sides of this war. But have faith, because in true Emma fashion, you’ll find this one running you through the gauntlet of emotions several times as the story unfolds before your eyes.
Full of suspense, endless action and intrigue, and a few twists and turns along the way this story was absolutely riveting. Emma is a genius when it comes to crafting stories and this one was no exception as she wove an intricate beautiful tale that unfolded before our eyes so enticingly you couldn’t stop reading as she took us on a journey with these beloved characters. And the fact that this overarching storyline keeps on going, bringing back other beloved characters, makes this one a definite must read for anyone that’s fallen a victim to this Beautifully Brutal world! Or anyone that loves a good friends to enemies, enemies to lovers, forbidden dark Mafia romance! Seriously, i love this world so much and can’t wait to see what comes next!!!
Another winner in this ongoing series. There was so much going on in this story the forbidden friends / lovers that were action-packed and full of secrets and betrayals and let's not forget the surprises that happened along the way.
Raleigh was a character our heart went out to born to the powerful family that she was she never wanted the life she was born into but, had no choice but, to embrace it. With a family like the Doughtry's, which is so powerful there are always targets on their backs and are always surrounded by danger we could not fault Raleigh for not wanting that kind of life. Then there was Shane the boy she could not have who was once her friend and now has become her enemy.
Even though this book is part of a series and is a continuation of a story we felt it really could be read as a standalone also. The story was filled with chemistry and amazing characters but, it was also about second chances and we love those kinds of books.
For us, as we have said in the past about this author is that her books are filled with what we call the feels it gives the reader everything they want in a story and yet again she delivered an action-packed romance with such great characters and yet another awesome story.
From the moment we met Shane we were drawn to the man with his troubled past and all but, what we loved most about him is that first and foremost he felt it was his job to protect Raleigh the best way he knew how to. Regardless of their pasts this couple was meant to be and we loved them as a couple. Their chemistry was beautiful.
Just another page-turner in our book loved it! The more we read this author's books the more we fall in love with the author her books are simply amazing and we are so glad we discovered her as she creates so many amazing stories and characters to fall in love with.
I've been so busy lately that some days it's impossible to read. A torture if you ask me... I hate not being able to read even if is just for 5 minutes ut being a mom and a wife sometimes is impossible to have just a few moments to myself. That's why I've only now finished reading this book. Emma Luna has been a constant in my reading life and her books are perfect. I love her dark writing and her characters are to die for. The Time Is Now is the fourth book from the Beautifully Brutal series and explores the lives of Shane and Ryleigh. Have you had the chance to read the first three books from this series? If you haven't I advise you to do it now and only then start reading this book. When you're born into a powerful family, is mandatory and expected from you to embrace the family and follow their rules and beliefs. Shane hadn't had the best childhood. He was a troubled teen until the day Bree took him under her wing. through the years he and Ryleigh had formed a tight friendship and... OH MY GOD... This book was freaking amazing like I knew it would be. Dayum this book left me speechless... So much was going on that left me gasping for air. We are bombarded with stuff after stuff that is insane. The unknown can be insane sometimes, but in this book was perfect. I've cried, laughed, cursed, and blushed... I love a book that can evoke these feelings in me. The characters were perfect for each other and the stuff they endured broke my heart. There's something about the forbidden that makes me giddy for more... I'm even more in love with this series and I'm sad that this book ended... I wanted more. Another masterpiece Emma. I'm loving this series.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
This is a dark Irish Mafia romance and the fourth book in the Beautifully Brutal Series. This is the story of Shane and Ryleigh. Shane is the youngest of the Doughty family and that meant that she was never going to have the life that she wanted ever. Certain things come along with being a Doughty. Power and enemies. Knowing that she knew that she had to be prepared for anything that came her way. However she was sent to boarding school as a way to protect her but it also meant that she was able to see what life was like, instead of being in the thick of the life she never wanted. Life at boarding school was great and she also found someone really unexpected there. Shane. Shane has a past that is the thing of nightmares and while her brother took him in she was there for him to chase away the nightmares. She is really fighting her feelings for him the entire time as she doesn't want to do anything that would ruin their friendship. However he has really destroyed their friendship by a brutal betrayal. Now he has gone from being her very best friend to her number one enemy and she wants answers. This book is so good. When you pick it up you will not want to lay it down. I loved Ryleigh and Shane and love watching their bond grow until it didn't. Then I might have wanted to smack him around a little for really shattering Ryleigh. I can't say much more about this book as I am afraid I will give something away. This is a really great read and one you do not want to miss.
It took a very little amount of time for Emma Luna to become a favorite of mine as her mafia romance is seriously the chef's kiss. I've been intrigued with Shane from day 1, and now it's his turn & what a story it turned out to be. The Time is Now could be read as a standalone but it just wouldn't hit the same way, plus why in the hell would anyone want to skip all the goodness of this whole series?! Shane was taken in by Raleigh's family back in the day when he was a troubled teen, and it was the best thing to ever happen to him to be honest. Through the love & care, he became a beautiful man who developed a beautiful friendship with Raleigh, although, there's no doubt there was always going to be more to them at some point as their bond was unbreakable no matter what happened going forward. These days, they're on opposite sides of the playing field, and while Shane would still do anything for her, she's kind of the holdout. She doesn't want the life she's a part of, and yet, there aren't that many choices for her in order to stay alive at this point due to her last name. The emotional element to this story seriously did my heart in because I wanted everything perfect for these two people, but there was still the action packed portion that kept the twists coming in hot as well which never fails to make me deliriously happy at the end of the day. You simply cannot go wrong with any book that the brilliant Emma Luna creates so don't pass this one by! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I've loved Shane and Ryleigh since we started to see them in the books prior. They have a unique relationship and their story was just as unique and worth the wait to read. These two are best friends, but they are both denying their real feelings for each other. Waiting for the other to recognize something different. Until that happens they will remain best friends, but can they survive the changes that are coming? Will there be betrayal or redemption in this story?
Shane has to become Vinnie again, but will he let Vinnie really take over his life? Ryleigh needs Shane in her life as her person, and when their lives become very complicated due to their situation things could get out of hand.
I loved this story and the twists, turns, and surprises that were revealed in this story. I have loved reading the Beautifully Brutal series from the start and I am looking forward to remaining books in the series. Their getting better with each story and I am intrigued to read more.
𝐀𝐑𝐂 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 The time is now By Emma Luna Rating: ⭐ 5/5 Emotions: ❤️ 5/5
This story has you on an emotional roller coaster. From being in tears to laughing and all in between. A friends to enemies to lovers romance. Shane and Ryleigh have been best friends who get torn apart and end up on opposite sides. There was an underlying attraction and the question could, should and what if. But before they could find out the unexpected happened to them. Ryleigh is a young girl with a big heart and full of passion. Shane is a smart young man, who got a lot loaded up on his shoulders. Their romance is complicated, but bound by a deep connection and with a lot of steam. A lot of suspense, action and twists. Some foreseeable, some not. There are hints as to what is next and that makes me excited for the next one.
When powerful people came into play Vinnie was used as a pawn. A lost and broken teen who left his past behind with the help of Bree. Two years later his past came back to haunt him putting him in a position he didn't think he wanted. Rising from the ashes like a phoenix Vinnie took on his birthright as the head of the Marcushio. Ryleigh is a force to be reckoned with. A little rebel. She and Shane (aka Vinnie) grew close during school and didn't cross the line between them as close friends. As obstacles are thrown in their path not only testing their friendship but the secret love they have for one another. Not everything seems as it appears. A fabulous series you don't want to miss out on. I suggest starting from the first book. You won't regret it. Action packed drama, mystery, suspense, betrayal, secrets revealed, family loyalty, love and sizzling scenes.
As if the previous book didn't have enough twists and turns, this book, which features Ryleigh and Shane/Vinnie has so many, it's hard to keep them all straight. Ryleigh really is the Rebel that Shane names her, and there are many secrets that both of them need to keep to be able to keep their family and their loved ones safe. I loved the way Ryleigh couldn't see how much Shane meant to her and was part of her life until she had to try and live without him. I loved the way their relationship blossomed from friendship to lovers. Another book that was too good to put down! Slowly all the pieces are coming together, and soon the final story will be told!
Like all her other previous stories Emma just keeps these series going and never disappointing!
This is Book 4 but she always leaves us wanting the next ASAP!
We finally get the story of Shane and Ryleigh, a fantastic friends to lovers story. This is filled of twist turns, steam, action and of course the tension between these two friend who are to discover what can happen between them.
Both characters were well developed and the growth Shane experiences, and how the threads with his troubled past. I have to say I really LOVED both and the story as always is well written.
(Thank you for my copy of this book! Hope you enjoy! 🖤)
I'm enjoying this series. Each book connects to the last, and now it's Shane and Ryleigh's turn! This was a forbidden, friends to lovers romance.
Shane was trying to do the right thing by claiming his rightful role as leader of his family, but with so many plans and secrets, he was just pushing away the people who cared for him the most. Ryleigh didn't want to give up on him, though.
I liked this one! I'm intrigued about where the series is going, however. I'm looking forward to what comes next!
I have enjoyed this series and these characters from book one. Shane is one of my favorites with just character growth and development potential. Also secretly hoping he gets this HEA. Shane has no lack of struggles and commitments he must handle at such a young age which I think adds to the appeal of his character growth for me. This book like the others are packed with action, anger, twists, and steamy passion. This book offered the reader to experience all their emotions as they follow along with Shane and Ryleigh's journey. I'm now anxiously awaiting the next book to see what is next.
A compelling story of two friends Shane and Ryleigh go from being close as two people could be to being separated and against odds. It was quite emotional, filled with heartache, love, chemistry, trials and suspense. It grabs you and although I would have like to have read it in one sitting I had to do it over three days, darn work... lol anyway, Emma has never disappointed in delivering a story that sticks with me for a bit and I think about later. This was no exception.
This is the fourth book in this amazing series, and this is Shane and Ryleigh’s journey, and they have such a unique relationship. This is a well written action packed, dark, mafia romance, with family, friendships, twists, betrayal, redemption, surprises, angst, emotions, forbidden friends / lovers’, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining and addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
