Pretty Little Lies

Rate this book
Four years ago, Nicolo Marchetti took my innocence. But he left me with something else—

Nicolo almost took everything from me. My virginity, my reputation, and very nearly my future. The heir to a mafia fortune, he’s arrogant, cocky, and devastatingly handsome—and I only just escaped him.

But he left me with something that means I can never forget.

Now, with the help of my aunt, I’m raising my daughter and pursuing my dream of being a ballerina. All I want is to fulfil my late parents’ wishes and move on with my life—and when I start fresh at Rosehill Academy, I think I’ve accomplished that. Until he appears again.

He doesn’t remember me. He doesn’t know he gave me a child. And once he sees me dance?

He’s obsessed.

As for me? I’ll do anything to stay out of his clutches—even if my body remembers what happened between us four years ago and still longs for it…despite everything he’s done.

His lies may be pretty…but I swear I won’t fall for them twice.

Pretty Little Lies is a STANDALONE ready to be devoured.

Read this last night when I was upset at my husband. This cruel-bully Hero made my husband look like a saint! It actually made me appreciate him more...my husband, not the Hero.

**SPOILERS**
2-stars OFF for:
1.) H’s malicious cruelty towards h due to his hurt pride and his overall malicious character (i.e., he got his kicks in high school by charming virgin teens to let him smex them and then promptly leaving them after he was done)

2.) H’s too-sudden ILY-ing and declarations (including apologies) towards h and their daughter hours after he cruelly accused her of betraying him for keeping their child a secret, if not for his younger sister making him see things from h’s POV (given how he rejected her after sex in h.s. and continuing on with her forced-affair or else he’ll hurt people she loved like he hurt her 1st male dance partner due to his jealousy and vengefulness for her continued resistance to him)

Half-star OFF for:
1.) h’s char did grow some but not enough—didn’t like h’s passivity and letting H get away with a lot of things especially in the end when he said he loved her and wanted her and their daughter in his life.

2.) H’s char growth was not enough and h still had to compromise a lot in order to prevent his violent and vengeful anger if she doesn’t give him what he wanted.

3.) HFN due to H’s moodiness and immaturity.

BUT:
1. Good emotionally-involving read. Angsty from:

#1. h’s secret pain over popular H not remembering her at all 4 years later, after that night he charmed her to let him de-virginize her.

#2. the resulting pregnancy which made her leave their high school and struggle with her aunt's help to raise her daughter and try to get into a top ballet college.

#3. H being a very cruel bully to h due to her repeated rejection of him and his prejudice against her for being poor.

2. Liked h’s wrestling with her conflicting emotions of physically desiring H and disgust/guilt/shame at wanting him when he’d been so cruel to her and threatening to her and completely forgetting her with no recollection that he knew her in high school and slept with her that 1 night.

3. Liked H’s uncontrolled and growing obsession jealous-possessiveness towards h and gave some balance to his deliberate cruelty towards h. He couldn't muster a physical desire for other women, when he saw h again (even though he didn't remember meeting her 4 years ago).

4. Really liked how H softened towards h after she was abducted for about an hour during their date night and actually became sweet/gentle/gentlemantly with her until he accidentally found out about their daughter & he said such cruel things to her with their 4yo child nearby.

Sexual History:
16yo virgin h had her 1st kiss and 1st sex experience with 17yo h.s.-senior H, who then told her to leave after he orgasmed on her face and chest. She left their high school after she found out she got preggo from that 1 time coz he wanted nothing to do with her even the day after having sex. She didn’t date anyone during their 4 years apart due to raising her daughter and working to perfect her ballet to get to a premier arts school.

21yo H de-virginized many of the virgin teen girls at their school as a challenge. He’d moved on from virgins in college and got into BDSM and wilder willing women. He had subs but seemed like no one he was exclusive with but part of an exclusive sex club. He didn’t tend to his subs after but, like all his other lovers, coldly left them right after he orgasmed or he’d tell them to leave. H has never had a GF but just a slew of lovers. When he saw h again 4 years later, he tried to 3-some with 2 sexy willing women but he couldn’t get it up because thoughts of h kept distracting him. Same thing happened all other times he thought of having his usual casual sex with other women. He only wanted h

Look 👀

I adore the sweet hopelessly devoted heroines. My favorite heroines are the ones that others like to call doormats. I see them differently 🤷🏼‍♀️. But this heroine?? Holy gawd. I have never come across a more pathetic spineless doormat in all my life. This cringetastic level of Body Betrayal Syndrome was unprecedented in my reading, and this is coming from someone who inhales Harlequin Presents like a crack whore.

The more he treated her like warmed garbage the more she creamed her panties. In the first 40% of the book, she’s so turned on by his disgusting treatment of her that she has to masterbate. FOUR TIMES 🫠 Doesn’t matter where she is. Shower, public bathroom, classroom… girlfriend can’t keep her hands out of her ballet tights. It’s bizarre.

And the hero is just a straight up pig. He’s not redeemable. He is an indiscriminate out of control bully. A little baby man who throws big tantrums when he doesn’t get his way. And I’m supposed to believe that he’s gonna run the mafia. 🙄 Sure thing 👍🏻👍🏻

Also, the college situation the author dreamed up is really weird. These people are supposed to be in their last years of college and yet they are all inexplicably in the same “history” class. 🤔🙄 The h is in college to be a dancer… why does she have any classes at all with the hero?? I’m pretty sure he’s older than her… he should only be taking classes that pertain to his major at this point, and I’m 100% sure he’s not in the fine arts 🥴😂 I don’t know if this was originally intended to be a high school book (this would explain A LOT) or the author has never experienced college in the States…. But this is not what college is like in Chicago IL.

Anyway. I tried. I wanted to like this because I liked that we started in the h’s head and there was some intrigue with why the H was systematically deflowering virgins in high school. But man this was baaaaaaaad.

😵‍💫🫣

I read it, and my score is 3.5⭐. Because in some places it was very good, but there were moments that were really bad, especially the beginning and the fact that the hero did not remember the heroine. But strangely enough, I read this book in one evening. Lately, only RK has been forcing me to read a book in an evening without stopping.
Safe: The heroine was a virgin and was only with the hero. The hero deprived the heroine of her virginity at the age of 16, it was a kind of conquest and after the first sex he kicked the heroine right out of bed. They meet again a few years later, the hero does not remember the heroine at all, he will remember her only at the end and only because he will be reminded. During these few years that they did not see each other, he slept with others, impersonally, he did not start a relationship and was not in love with anyone. But now, years later, he meets the heroine again, and becomes obsessed with her, that he now wants no one but her. (this saved the book for me). From now on, everything is safe. If he hadn't had other women during the separation, I would have put 5⭐.

First of all I want to say I created an account so I could review this book. Second of all I have never written a terrible review, or any review for that matter on any book in my life and frankly I never understood bad reviews. I always thought it was about personal preference and all but boy, was I wrong.

Everything is wrong with this book. Everything. Where to begin.

The plot sucks. It's cliche but honestly I love cliche, I live for cliche. What I don't live for is when the plot is so absurd it can't even classify as fiction anymore.
The characters suck. I only ever resonated with one person, and it definitely wasn't any of the main characters. Definitely not the idiotic and embarrassing female lead who masturbates to the man who sexually harasses her and humiliates her in public and so readily forgives him of all the horrific things he's done after some measly apology and spends half her time simping. Oh I didn't resonate to the piece of trash that's supposed to be the male lead that broke an innocent boy's limb and destroyed his future just because he danced with some girl he was obsessed with, that got OFF on physically and sexually and emotionally harassing the main character (shudder), oh it's not his asshole friends or brother(s?) (Honestly don't care about the plot to figure out whether theyre blood related or not, they're all disgusting). Oh I certainly didn't warm up to the male lead after he demonized the title of virgin, like it's taboo, or the main character's friends because they're all idiots too. I can assure you I didn't like any adults, because none of them had any spine or willpower. They were as useful as logs of FAWKIN WOOD. NOBODY, ABSOLUTELY NOBODY BUT FIN DID I LIKE IN THIS STUPID BOOK

Oh Fin. While we're on him let's talk about how he never gets any closure for his destroyed future, his arm is broken for life and yet the idiot that calls herself the main character so readily forgives the male lead and forgets all about what he did to Fin. Forgets it's not just her who is supposed to be traumatized, not that she's traumatized at all.

I will never forgive this author for giving me the worst representation of womanhood. I will never forgive this fellow woman for giving me such a female as a main character. It's one thing to be meek and subservient and spineless sometimes. I understand that. It's another to be so blatantly shameless and throw away all self esteem and dignity for a pretty face. I cannot believe she masturbated in the toilet after he DID THAT. MY FACE WAS SCREWED UP IN DISGUST. I WAS.

DISGUSTED! Mainly at the author.

You're the worst. I'm sorry this has to be my first review and such a bad one, but if this is the kind of representation my gender is going to be having, do all women a favor and throw that pen away. You're a horrifying writer when it comes to portraying women. I wasn't even asking for a strong women. Just one with a tiny bit of self respect. But you mucked that up.

Please never do this again. I hope I never have to come across this kind of book ever in my life. I'm traumatized

This is not kink. This was straight up abuse. That guy didn't deserve Anya and Clara.

And my god the heroine was spineless.

Enemies to lovers romance. Gosh, who's writing this stuff. You are sexually assaulted in front of several people, and you go to a public bathroom and masturbate. You let a guy force himself on you and you get turned on (by a guy you don't like). To degrade herself when she has so much self respect and is hardworking. You can't make a woman strong, then make her weak because of sex. The first time you are whipped, I doubt if you orgasm. Call this what it is - RAPE. Wanted to keep the child a secret and upon first meet, you tell him who he is. This was garbage.

0 stars for the rapist, abuser, and straight up terrible human that is Niccolo. I can’t name a single redeemable quality about him and don’t get me started on Anya with her betraying-body syndrome in his presence.

Violent

I thought the book was too violent against women. Anya was also too weak as a heroine. And the ending was rushed. Should have focused more on the child and father relationship.

I just got bored with this one and when I skimmed ahead and saw nothing much else really happens besides more sex before the big reveal and rushed forgiveness to an HEA I decided I wasn’t interested in it, at least right now.

Let me start by saying that I have never given a book 1 ⭐ before. With that said, I can't even express how bad this was. Nico was a trashcan of a human being and had absolutely no concept of consent. And Anya? Anya 👏 needs 👏 therapy👏. I could write quote after quote of why this was so terrible, but honestly that would be a waste of my time. At the end of the day this is all you need to know: Nico treats Anya like absolute shit in EVERY way, but she is somehow still sexually responsive to him because apparently her mind and body are on different wavelengths about Nico (I mean... what? Did a man write this??) He never really has to acknowledge or apologize for his atrocious behavior (he threatened her into a sexual relationship by breaking her dance partners arm and then did horrible things to her sexually). He's nice to her one time and all of a sudden he's forgiven and she's fallen in love with him. I reiterate. Anya. Needs. Therapy. And don't even get me started on the horrendous BDSM rep in this book. Nico is written like he's supposed to be a Dom, which is just offensive to the entire lifestyle. He doesn't care for her. There is Zero trust between them. He physically abuses her for his own sexual enjoyment and doesn't take care of her afterwards. Honestly, this author should never be allowed to write a romance again.

Skimmed much of it

Nico was simply too horrible with absolutely no redemption. It made no sense that Anya would fall for him. I love bully romances but the hero has to actually develop feelings for the heroine to make the relationship work. It never appeared to me that Nico did.

brutal and dull

There was literally no emotional connection through out this whole book. I can handle bully and dark romance novels. I enjoy a lot of them. But the relationship lacked on so many level. And every single time they were actually doing something of meaning it would fade to black or jump to the next day. You would hear " we stayed up all night talking" but have no idea at all what they talked about. Or we were at dinner and talked the whole time and Anya was funny. But again not one interaction was shared. I forced myself to finish. The spicy scenes were great and detailed but overall the book lacked everything it was trying to accomplish

Okay....so I liked it.
I liked the fact the assholish behaviour of the H remained throughout the whole book, like he didn't change his skin within a minute from bad to good.
I would have prefer a little bit more strong headed h but it was good none the less.
I really really loved the sex and smut scenes.
I love the whole he was a punk ,she did ballet - classic bad boy , good girl moment.
I really wanted more family moments of the h & H with their baby girl.
If it's a continuous series , hopefully we will see some of it.

Brutalist

Spoilers/TW:

He was brutal, abusive, and BDSM’ed her without real informed consent and no matter how you look at it, he @$$ r@ped her without lube and she still falls in love because he rescued her from a kidnapping that was his own fault anyways? So HEA because he hit it and quit it and knocked her up 4 years prior.

My heart hurts for her, hugely.

If I could give this book zero stars, I would.

Nicolo is just horrible, irredeemable I’m my eyes.

Anya is just weak and has no backbone, very hard to sympathise with.

Sexual Assault should not be romanticised

Ivy no. I did not just more than 300 hunderd pages for *that moment* just to have it rushed in 10 pages. Come on, you wrote a whole book just for that scene and then you decide to make it as bad and boring as possible?! Honestly giving me somewhat of an original ending was the least you could do after 200 pages of repetition and the decision to treat the mc as a doormat

This shit proved the secret baby trope can work. Nico’s such an asshole to Anya and she has no choice but to let him use her body UGHH I LOVED HIM. If you love a true bully romance with TONS of sex… girl what are waiting for?? Perfect book to end the year on🥰

good

I think there were a lot of 3 star reviews because he was so horrible. And he was. I am not even sure the author really redeemed him or if she just wrapped it up nicely w a bow. But it was good and the anti villain is a jerk and will stop at nothing to get who he wants. And in the end they found their kink and it worked. If anything I wish she hadn’t wrapped it up so sweetly as it was as believable. But it was very hot! And I enjoyed it

Half Done

I love mafia books a lot, I try to give them benefit of the doubt with ratings. I also love hidden pregnancy books, however I do have to say I do not agree with only just showing the fact that Nico had a daughter on page 330 when there’s only three chapters left. It was very poorly written as well, as a reader I think that father daughter building was taken away for BDSM which was not prompted in the small glimpse. Wouldn’t recommend the book to anyone unfortunately, sorry…

I wish I had read the reviews earlier. This book was such an awful read. Nico was arrogant, entitled, violent and a rapist. Anya was such a spineless character who lets him violate her over and over again. Most of the sex scenes were non consensual and cringeworthy. I could barely skim through them. He publicly mocks and gropes her in front of his friends and she is so turned on that she rushes to the bathroom to mastrubate. She only agrees to have sex with him because he threatens everybody around her. I cannot fathom how people can romanticise and justify abuse as love. Nico does not redeem himself in any single way but the spineless heroine forgives him anyways and they all lived happily ever after.
