My thoughts:📻 2/10 - It's not bad. It's not a lot of new information here, but the way it is given is very inspiring. 📻3/10 - This chapter was dull but useful. It's basically relaxation exercises without the sounds of waves. It is great because you won't always have guided meditation but boring because of descriptions.
I absolutely enjoyed this series. I will be rereading in the future.
Recommend to others?: Yes. This is a lot of good techniques and information in a short amount of time.
I read this as a professional looking for resources for patients. I felt it was a mixed bag.
Pros: theoretically sound, with some useful individual exercises. May be helpful for those with very mild anxiety. The author has a really lovely reading voice!
Cons: 'anxiety' is too big a topic to deal with in this way, and I was left feeling unsure that many people would find this very valuable. Most suggested tasks are too generic for anyone with a specific disorder, and if I didn't know better, I might be left with the belief that CBT is too light touch for more severe difficulties.
Not harmful by any means, but possibly not overly useful either. I would say anyone looking for an overview of theory might find this most useful.
For the most part, I found this book helpful. However, I was hoping for something new or something I hadn't heard already. I guess there are no magic wands that will take away my anxiety. The situations in my life cause most of my anxiety.
