Mortal Mate

Rate this book
I can’t stop dreaming about him, Quentin, the boy next door who stole my heart and then just… vanished.

I’m constantly reminded of him, handsome and sexy, so much that I struggle to find love for my boyfriend.

And then one night, I find myself caught between a rock and someone’s hard abs, taking me a minute to realize who my savior is, swooping in with his sexy self and saving me from the street thug outside the hottest club in town.

It’s Quentin. Just like in my dreams.

But he’s changed. Something about him is different. Dark, powerful, dangerous.

And even though I can tell that he wants me, he’s pushing me away even as he’s claiming me with his seductive body and a toe-curling kiss.

I can’t understand what’s happening as I feel my very soul singing out to his… and all I can hear are his strange words echoing in my ear before he vanishes like he was never there.

He’s a vampire, I find out when he suddenly appears again at my window, baring his fangs and telling me that he now walks the night.

But I don’t run away. Instead, I hear myself telling him that I want him.

And when we kiss again, he sinks his fangs into my neck, and the pleasure is out of this world.

Then he asks me to be his forever. It’s all I’ve been waiting for.

But can I become an immortal and leave everything behind?

And if I don’t, will he be happy with just a mortal mate?

Quick read about Gemma and her childhood crush Quentin. Both have been friends since childhood both have been pining away after each other for years.

Gemma lost Quentin when they were 16 and his father took a job in another city. Quentin's family left abruptly without him having a chance to say goodbye to Gemma.

11 years later and Gemma still hasn't gotten over Quentin. Unbeknownst to Gemma; 6 years after Quentin left her, he was turned into a Vampire and have been a constant shadow in her life. Quentin always knew Gemma was the one for him.

This was a fast paced story. Gemma had a boyfriend who loved her and treated her well and she was still hung up on a guy who left her 11 years ago. When Quentin came back into Gemma was conflicted about who and what she wanted.

When Quentin's Sire realizes his hold on Quentin is waning he takes matters into his hands and soon Gemma finds her life in peril.

Lives hangs in the balance and time is of the essence. Both Quentin and Gemma are faced with difficult decisions.

I was expecting a fun read but I’m disappointed.

First of all, I didn't like the fact that the chapters are simply named after the two protagonists: Gemma, Quentin, Gemma, Quentin, etc… It seems the author hasn't put in enough effort to give it a real name.

The thing that left me speechless, however, is the fact that Gemma, after discovering that Quentin is a vampire, did not even blink.
From that moment on I found the story very implausible and I was tempted not to finish reading but I took courage and went on.

The love triangle could also be avoided, in my opinion the author had to dwell more on other aspects of the book, like the main character who, in my opinion, are a little empty.

In my opinion Mortal Mate is suitable for a younger audience, both for the plot and for the writing style, the author with this goal could do a great job!

A good read. I did like Quentin and Gemma and Micaela. Magnus was evil. 4*.

This book hits the ground running. It's short, a really quick read but it keeps you on the edge of your seat for most of it. Really loved the fast paced scenes and the interesting take on mates. Not quite fated but chosen.

Now I wanna say my big complaint about this book was the lack of details. I know this book is short and to the point but I really craved some in between scenes. Like I wanted more about Jayden and Gemma; a little more background on her job situation; maybe even more on her relationship with her roommate. It felt like we just got down to business without giving any supporting information.

This book expands on a trope that I never thought I'd enjoy, childhood sweethearts( or perhaps second chance ) but either way the two of them have been pining and find their paths crossed. Did a good job of enforcing that their feelings were important regardless of when they came into being. Really enjoyed the slice of life cuts back in time to when they were younger.

Would recommend something as a cleanser for your book palette, quick read, definitely gets you in the mood to keep reading.

I’ll like to preface this by saying I had high hopes for this book, I absolutely go feral over a good blood sucker boy but alas, it didn’t hit for me.

I found the book to be written in a very wattpad way, so it’s amazing for younger audiences who are just starting to get into paranormal romances.

I didn’t like the characters, I simply could not click with them. They’re in their early 30’s and acted like young teens, I feel like if they were written as young adults (17-21) it would’ve been easier for me to read it based on their actions.

The romance also didn’t work for me, there was a love triangle, a very unnecessary love triangle imo and (POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING) our FMC talked amazing about her lover whilst also cheating on him, which simply didn’t sit well with me.

Overall, a decent book for a younger audience with fade to black scenes to allow them to keep their innocence, but if you’re anything like me then this mightn’t be for you.

Quintin moves away from Gemma when they were teenagers. They were in love but it couldn't last. Six years later, Quintin is changed into a vampire. He believes that he's a bad person and not good enough for Gemma, so he watches her from afar for years.

Gemma meets him again a few years later and they have a whirlwind relationship. Does Gemma get changed into a vampire to be immortal with Quintin? Or does she stay a "Mortal Mate"?

I took one star away because of the cheating factor. Gemma is in a relationship when she meets Quintin and they do the deed (fade to black). That made me feel a little icky.

Gemma, a human, and Quentin, a vampire, meet again after many years. They were once neighbors and each had a crush on one another. Quentin moved away unexpectedly and Gemma never could stop thinking about him. Gemma is now in danger because Quentin's maker wants him back to rule over all the other vampires. When threatening Quentin doesn't work, Gemma is taken by the vampire King. Quentin and Gemma must figure out a way to get out of the mess they're in. Gemma also has a human boyfriend. Overall book was ok but lacked cohesion. For instance Gemma knew Quentin was being held against his will but no one told her in the book.

Gemma and Quentin's Story . . .

Gemma and Quentin were neighbors when they were young. They loved each other. When Quentin suddenly had to move away, he didn’t even have a chance to explain to Gemma. When he was later turned into a vampire, he no longer felt worthy of her. But he cared enough to keep an eye on her and make sure she was safe.

When she needed his help, he was there for her. He knows she is the only one for him. Will they escape his vampire sire Magnus who wants to get him back under his control? Will Gemma choose to become Quentin’s mate? Will they find eternity together?

Read if you like:
-Vampire Romance
-Love triangles

I fell in love with Quentin and Gemma's story. Their characters and history made it so easy to root for them! For a short read, this book had a decent amount of action as well. I felt that, at times, the story and details were a little rushed through. The bones of this story are so good and I would have loved to get to spend more time in the big moments with these characters. With that being said, it captured my attention from the first page and kept me interested. I'll definitely be reading more by this author.

Gemma kept having dreams of Quentin even though she hasn’t seen him when his parents moved. By accident Quentin saw Gemma in the city where he was so he followed her one night he saves her and they had a night he knew that she was his mate. Then his maker kidnapps him back and puts him in a cell that he can’t use his power, threatens Gemma’s life to make do things. She figures out Magnus’s power, he uses it to get Gemma to do what he wanted instead she does the opposite. They escape. Good book!.

This story had it all! Action, love and some comedy. Quentin and Gemma are not what I thought they would be like. Gemma is a bad a$$ women. And Quentin is so boyfriend material. Quentin is dark and brooding but so soft for Gemma. I don’t want to give to much away! But if you like vampire’s, love, and action definitely read this book.

Characters:10/10
Plot: 10/10
Trope: Grumpy/ Sunshine, paranormal romance
Triggers: Kidnapping, Cheating
Smutt/ Smexy: 2/10

I did receive this as an arc

Gemma & Quentin

A compelling, enjoyable, easy to read page-turner with some wonderful characters. Gemma & Quentin are different but strong, determined individuals who share a special bond. The story is an emotional one as it captures fear, happiness, sadness and anger while highlighting the awesome adventure and suspense of Gemma & Quentin. An adult paranormal romance for those who love vampires. Loved it. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Gemma and Quentin were two young kids that lived next door to each other, till Quentin's parents move him basically in the middle of the night. No goodbyes, nada. Gemma has dreamt of Quentin since then, the dreams always strange, but now they are changing.

Come along with Gemma and Quentin, see them come back together and where their adventure will take them. I really enjoyed this book and don't know if there will be more about Quentin and Gemma or other characters, but if so, I'm there for them.

Short vampire read! This was a decent read, however I do feel like it could have been more fleshed out. It almost felt like you were only getting a snippet of another story. It was good and I liked the characters, I didn't get any emotional feeling from them though. There wasn't any depth, granted you don't normally get that from a short, but just felt like it was missing something.

If anyone's looking for a quick read, this book probably would suit it for it.

Anyway, I don't exactly know what's going as everything went too quick and didn't have that enough build up for the plot and for the romance.

Th characters were also unlikeable from the start towards the end thay I just didn't care for them.

Overall, I would say this was a disaster.

Vampires! I didn't read One of this for a while but is always a great experience!
The book is very easy to read and great for in the Middle of other series. Its sweet and sexy and you get a good feeling about it. Here our heroine gets to choose if She wants it not the life of a vampire mate.

I received an arc copy of this book for an honest review.
I enjoyed this fast paced vampire novella. I liked that Gemma and Quentin were chosen instead of fate mates. The only thing that was slightly disappointing was when the book starting to get spicy the scene faded to black. But apart from that the book was very enjoyable.

Quentin and Gemma were two relatable characters even if one was a vampire. All they wanted was to be together. It was a page turner with lots of action but still a lovely love story. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes vampire romance. I like this author and can't wait for more of her books.

This is a vampire romance about Gemma and Quintin. They knew each other when they were younger. He left and then later gets turned into a vampire. He finds her again and now she had a decision to make.

I really enjoyed this book. This author really knows how to create a world that you can really find yourself getting lost in. A great start to the series and I cannot wait to read more!

Honestly. I was really hoping to like this book, but it just fell a bit flat for me. Things felt rushed, the characters didn't have much depth. I'm not sure if this is a new author, but some more time spent sussing out the characters and working on pacing would probably help. I feel the book had potential.
