I’ve been reading this series since like 2012. This would be the third time it ended. I’m excited to read it, but please let it be the last.

The world can’t keep ending. Let these characters rest!! They’ve earned their happy ever after already!

Ok so here comes the end of this journey. Ngl, We started with pucks story and I thought we really gonna focus on his story this time, but it ended up being taken away somehow by the main character of the iron fey original series, Meghan and ash.

While I really like meghan and ash's story the most so far, I really wanted this series to stay focused on puck's story, because he did deserve it. And the main characters of original story had their happy ending so.

Overall, I'm sort of happy, This series wasn't mind blowing and amazing as the last two, but I certainly was glad to read more about the original characters again. Happy reading!

I laughed. I cried. I fell into bliss.

This Iron Fey series was one of my first YA fantasy series I’ve ever read. I fell in love with these characters from the very first page. I couldn’t put them down and I read each new spin off book as soon as I could.

This is all very bittersweet to see it come to a close. This was one roller coaster ride that I never wanted to get off. But I am so thankful I got the chance to ride in the first place.

I read an ARC and my honest opinion is that if you’re looking for a fun true YA series, look no further then these books. You can thank me later.

I first read The Iron King in 2010 and I think it was one of the very first books I received from Harlequin Australia for review. While it’s not strictly necessary to be familiar with the Iron Fey series which includes the four books of The Iron Fey (The Iron King, The Iron Daughter, The Iron Queen and The Iron Knight) and The Iron Fey: Call of Forgotten trilogy (The Lost Prince, The Iron Traitor and The Iron Warrior), plus various novellas, you should have read the first two books of the Evenfall spin-off trilogy, The Iron Raven and the The Iron Sword, to enjoy The Iron Vow, which also serves as a finale for the for the whole of the Iron Fey series. I’ve read each instalment as it has been released, but if you haven’t, or you have forgotten what has transpired, given the books have been published over a 13 year period, Julie Kagawa helpfully provides a brief recap of the entire Iron Fey series in the first few pages of The Iron Vow.

“Let me tell you a story.
The story of a girl who went into the land of faeries, met a prince, and fell in love.”

As I had surmised given the previous books in the Evenfall trilogy, Meghan is the narrator for The Iron Vow, and the contrast between the teenager who first stumbled into the NeverNever and the Iron Queen of today is satisfying.

The Iron Vow begins where The Iron Sword left off, with our band of heroes, who attempted to stop the vengeful Nightmare King from breaking through from Evenfall, realising they had no choice but to enter his terrifying realm to ensure the immortal King never wakes up. So now Meghan, accompanied by her husband Ash, son Kierran, Puck, Nyx and Grimalkin, are in a deadly world with no natural glamour (hence no ready access to magic) on a dangerous mission to save not only all of Faerie, but also the Human world.

I don’t want to give too much away but the story progresses as you would expect, with the group battling their way through a hostile land populated by monstrous nightmares, offering plenty of fast paced action. They unearth secrets, find unlikely allies, and are forced to confront their own nightmares to reach their goal. To prevail demands a grand sacrifice, and unprecedented cooperation. It’s as tense, exciting, emotional, and entertaining as you would want from this series finale.

The characters remain true to who they have become over the series. Meghan is noble, Ash is protective, Kierran yearns for redemption, Puck cracks jokes, Nyx is deadly, and Grimalkin always disappears at the first sign of trouble. I’m a little sorry to say goodbye to them after all this time, though the epilogue provides some comfort.

I’ve very much enjoyed The Iron Fey series, and I’m sure it will continue to capture the imagination of readers of young adult fantasy.

What a fantastic ending to this trilogy from Kagawa. It's so easy to slip back into the world she's created of fae and this time was no exception. I love how she paces her books because it always makes them quick reads for me regardless of page count. This was packed with adventures (or misadventures) just like her previous novels in this trilogy and it was a very satisfying ending. The epilogue was definitely a favorite of mine too.

Thanks so much to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review!

Recensie volgt @ The BookbabeThe Iron Fey, Evenfall (3): De ijzerbelofte
Julie Kagawa, HarperCollins Holland
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆

I have to say I’m a little disappointed in this grand finale. The storyline itself was fine, but where was the editor? Megan has been a strong character throughout all of these books, what happened?? The number of times she “leans into Ash” for strength made me want to puke. That phrase was SO overused. I love this author, and I hate to say anything negative, it pains me. Just not the best of the series.

This book made me cry! It was very good, although I tried to read it two times. It's just... I can't believe it's the end of this story. As the ending suggests, maybe it's not the end.

This was so good and such a good ending to this series. Any time a favorite series of mine gets a spin off, I’m nervous. I am even more nervous when that spin off brings back characters from the original series as main characters. So often the new series feels repetitive and back tracks on character growth, but Julie Kagawa did none of that here. I got to go on another adventure with Ash, Meghan, and Puck and none of their character growth suffered in the process. I will say, Kagawa really enjoys putting Kierran through the wringer, but I loved seeing him again and giving him such an integral part of the story was nice. All in all, a great send off for a favorite series of mine.

Super excited for the finale! Hopefully a return to Puck's POV? Although I have a suspicion it could be from Meghan's POV - 3 main cast members getting one book each. Or even all three POV's in one book! But that might be unlikely.

If we do get Meghan's POV, it'll be a nice finale, bringing it back full circle to book 1 of the OG series. I'll enjoy seeing how Meghan's POV would change from her 16-year-old self to now.

Also, how are we feeling about this cover? I'm...not sure, maybe I'll change my mind when it's released!

Thank you to Netgalley and Inkyard Press for this eARC so that I can leave an honest review.

Firstly, the horror elements were unexpected and incredibly well-executed. The different nightmares that the characters faced were varied and were absolutely the best part. The lack of magic for the characters was an interesting choice and made the story feel more grounded and interesting. The new characters in the Nightmare Lands were a welcome addition to the trilogy. Meghan's perspective was a refreshing change to the last two books, and Puck continued to be more enjoyable as a supporting character. The emotional investment in the characters was not incredibly strong, but I did almost shed a tear once toward the end.

The book did have some repetitive elements, such as the pattern of going somewhere, battling something, and moving on to the next challenge. The pop-culture references were a bit overdone at times and Puck's catchphrase "no touchie" to each baddie also got a little grating after a while. The epilogue was absolutely geared to those who have read the entire series rather than just the trilogy.

Overall enjoyable.

The Iron Vow by Julie Kagawa is the last book in the Iron Fey: Evenfall Trilogy and the final book in The Iron Fey Series, and is it an adventure!

This book is action packed from start to finish! It picks up right where the last one left off, with all our favourite characters facing their greatest challenge yet. They must save the NeverNever and all of Faery from the Nightmare King.

This book is told from Meghan’s perspective and I really loved that we got one book from each of the main characters POVs. My favourite is still Puck though, I just loved his narration.

The Iron Vow is fast paced and I found myself flying through the pages to the satisfying and exciting conclusion. I particularly liked the epilogue, it was a beautiful touch to end a huge series.

I would recommend this to fans of The Iron Fey series.

Thank you Harper Collins Australia and Harlequin Australia for the review copy.

The Iron Vow is amazing, emotional and engaging. Meghan Queen of the Iron Realm and her companions entered a portal into Evenfall and found themselves in a new terrifying world where Nightmares roam. With their magic weakening and the creatures of Evenfall rise against them, the race to find the Nightmare King grows. During their search, they discover shocking things about Evenfall, about the Nightmare King and about themselves that shocks everything they thought they once knew. As the Nightmare King stirs, the Nevernever and all of Faery hangs in the balance. To stop the Nightmare King and save the Faery realms and the mortal realm, Meghan and her allies will have to make an impossible choice. The Iron Vow is filled with adventure, danger, discoveries and emotion.

Meghan and her companions have entered into the Nightmare King’s realm, Evenfall but find themselves in a terrifying world where nightmares roam free and glamour doesn’t exist. With the help of Nyx, Meghan, Ash, Puck, Keirran and Grim travel through the dangers of Evenfall to find the Nightmare King which was no easy task and had to seek aid from other Evenfall fey to find clues, hints and possible leads to his whereabouts before he wakes. Their search also leads them to undiscover some shocking truths about the Evenfall fey and the Nightmare King leaving part of the group torn regarding the fate of the Evenfall fey.

As they continue to locate the Nightmare King, they continue to battle Evenfey Nightmare in order to survive and discover more and more about Evenfall and how it needs the King. Meghan and group continue to debate on what to do about their situation, Evenfall and how more difficult their choice becomes. At last they face the King, however, it proves to be more difficult than they thought as he brings terror like they never seen before from their own hearts. To stop the Nightmare King and save not only Faery but the Evenfey, Meghan and group will have to make the final and hardest decision they have ever made.

This time, Meghan is the POV and it feels like it comes full circle as it was her that began the Iron Fey story and now ends with her. You can truly see the difference in Meghan’s way of thinking from the beginning as a teenager and to now after years of ruling. I still love Grim. He is by far my favorite character. Still love Puck my second favorite character. He is so funny and loyal. Ash remains a great character. Kierran, oh Kierran. He just wants to do so much and redeem himself after what he’s done. I so like Nyx. I was surprised about the Nightmare King.

Overall, The Iron Vow was emotional. Julie Kagawa never fails to deliver amazing books and when she ends a series you can expect it to be emotional. I’ve laughed, I’ve cheered, I’ve cried and cried some more. I am sad to see the end to the Iron Fey series. I loved the interlude that tells Meghan’s story and recap of the Iron Fey series. I’m going to miss Meghan, Ash, Puck, Grim and the rest of the Iron Fey characters. It’s been fun. I love this series and so glad I got to read it.

Thank you to NetGalley, Inkyard Press, and Julie Kagawa for the opportunity to read The Iron Vow in exchange for an honest review.

The Iron Vow is the third installment in the Iron Fey: Evenfall series, an after-series to the original Iron Fey novels, lining up as number ten for all the books so far. You do not need to read the original series to enjoy Evenfall, but it is highly recommended, as many of the characters make appearances and some snippets reference the first series. It makes for a more enriching experience having read the original series first. If you are interested, the original series runs with the following books in this order:
The Iron Fey:
The Iron King                                   The Iron Prince
The Iron Daughter                           The Iron Traitor
The Iron Queen                                The Iron Warrior
The Iron Knight
Book 1, The Iron Raven, is told from Puck's perspective. Book 2, The Iron Sword, is told from Ash's perspective. Which leaves us with Book 3, The Iron Vow, being told from Meghan's perspective. If you read my review about The Iron Sword, I wasn't really thrilled with the POV switch, as I really loved how Puck told the tale. The character voices aren't to differentiated, so I would occasionally forget that this was from Meghan's perspective. It should be noted that I did enjoy this final installment more than the middle book, and I feel that the ending was wholesome and everything it needed to be for this trilogy.

Beyond the Nevernever lies Evenfall: a world of Nightmares. Fae glamour does not work in this realm, but Meghan and company must bring down the Nightmares, the Nightmare King, and save the fae of Evenfall somehow.

With daring battles and help from unexpected residents (and some interesting bug people), the heroes face many obstacles in their quest to save Evenfall, and ultimately, the Nevernever and the entire fae realm.

While the book felt like a few battles more than it needed to be, I really love how Kagawa chose to end this series. It was wholesome. It was exciting. It was really everything it needed to be and brings me delight to say that this book made me happy to have read the trilogy through its entirety.

I am glad that hopefully these series are over. I recall those old days back in 2010-2012 when the world was just emerging and the characters were building up. It all was fresh and new, interesting, exiting, a definite page-turner with a special place for amusing and original jokes (still remember Puck's "bucket brigade" phrase), lovable heroes, sweet romantic heart-aching moments etc. I understand that it is extremely difficult to keep readers captivated through so much time and spin new story lines, that is why probably many author's raisins or tasty bits in writing style went stale. The story develops on similar rails as in previous books, and even if some characters and events are new, it is becoming rather predictable, and desperate near-death experiences that protagonists face are not felt nearly as such, no thrill. The romance between is completely unbelievable, no passion behind it, no tenderness, nothing at all - just a desire of the author to make , but it is even worse that way. I've also found extremely difficult to perceive Meghan as motherly figure and as mother as such. 99% of her actions are so teenager-ish, that sometimes I doubted she was older than Kierran . The growing horde of favorite characters that do a lot together prevents from perceiving each as a precious piece, just compiling there unique treats and making this potpourri salad hardly edible.
Please let this series rest, another spin-off tale will just sour the sweet aftertaste of the first installments in Iron Fey series even more.

"There is no end, no happily-ever-after. There is always a next chapter, another part to the tale. The ending of one story is only the beginning of the next adventure.”
“Well, hopefully not for a few years, at least.”

😬
Don’t get me wrong: I love this series but after a quartet and two trilogies, I’m ready to put it to rest. And I really hope Julie Kagawa is too. It’s time to move on to other projects, ma’am.
This final installment wasn’t as good as the previous one - but Ash’s point of view is my favorite thing so I might be a little biased. It didn’t give me everything I wanted, but it came close. The book was packed with action although the Nightmare king’s boss fight was a bit disappointing. I mean, this guy was the final big bad? Not as nightmare-ish as it could have been. But on the other hand, we got some cute moments (Meghan/Ash + some cozy found family moments which makes me very happy even if Nyx and Puck were put aside a little in my opinion), Keirran’s exile got lifted (finally!) and the Evenfey are saved and back in Nevernever. We even had a little Ethan, Kenzie and Razor moment at the end there. And no one even died! All in one, Kagawa could have made it worse for her readers but she tried to tie all the loose ends while trying to make all of us happy.

I knew Kierran would have to sacrifice something and I knew he’d end up out of exile for it, but I still cried at that part. The idea that he had to let all the evenfey shoulda go through him to come to life, I couldn’t imagine.
I actually felt bad for the nightmare king when he told them he’s held onto his nightmare tree to keep his dream alive for his people, he was so tired :( he was never given a second chance, but his people live on.
I’m glad evenfey chose to hold on, and the concept they were all living inside a dream was probably one of the coolest concepts I’ve read in a book in a while!
I wish we got the entire trilogy from Puck’s POV, but I actually liked it from Ash and Meghan’s views too, because really the whole of this series was ab them three together.
I do love that we got to see Kenzie and Ethan again. I felt like all the characters came around, very full circle moment.
I am semi annoyed we didn’t see more forgotten come back more clearly, since the evenfey came back to “life.”
The epilogue definitely made it seem like more could come later, but I hope we are saying goodbye to the nevernever. Let them live their fae lives.

No puedo creer que acabó... La saga de The Iron Fey finalmente acabó... 😭😭😭😭

I appreciated the recaps throughout the book as this is quite a long faerie universe and sometimes I am forgetful. I did enjoy that the entire book was one long adventure, but did feel myself getting a little disengaged because there was trial after trial after trial. Puck’s commentary always makes me smile and I’m glad it continued to do so in this book. I think this was a good ending to the trilogy and totally epic.

Thank you @harlequinaus for a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

A pretty ending to the series, wrapping out most of the untangled threads, though there were some still left orphaned. The PoV of the main protagonist is understandable in particular for the main arc, but it came at the expanse of some of the other characters which were dimmed and hushed.
As a whole I had enjoyed the series and found the main characters to be relatable, but the recurring calamities made it a bit bleak. Had there been some lighter {even in novella form} it would have been even better.

Another fantastic read from Julie Kagawa , as always you can expect a wonderfully well written story, fast paced, full of action, great characters, this is the final book in the series series, which I’m sad to end but before we go we get new characters and new worlds. A wonderful end to a wonderful journey with these brilliant characters

Well, it may have taken me nearly a month to read…life, what can I say? But that ending was totally worth it. I loved the way this was told, a story within a story. Puck will forever be my favorite with his sarcastic banter.

I can’t wait to see if Kagawa chooses to expand the Iron universe again or if this is where it ends. This is a good ending but I would be happy with more too.
