Preciznim i elegantnim jezikom, autorica opisuje život dvoje mladih, Francuskinje Mane i Tunižanina Ride, koji ga s puno vjere zajednički započinju u Tunisu, nakon završenih studija u Francuskoj. Prilike ne idu u prilog tom mladom paru, muž se vraća svojim korijenima i tradicionalnom poimanju uloge i mjesta žene, zanemaruje brak i sina. No nekad strankinja, Marie će naučiti živjeti u tom novom svijetu i neće se vratiti u Francusku. Djelo je pisano bez patetike, vrlo odmjereno a ipak vrlo dopadljivo. Teme inter-kulturalnosti i prihvaćanja Drugog izražene su tzv. ženskim pismom druge generacije, stilom koji nije agresivan i samodostatan.

Tellement beau... une petite merveille. Je suis devenue accro à cette écrivaine. J'ai hâte de découvrir ses autres livres. A la prochaine lecture.

The story is very good, and I like the fact that we get to 'hear' the story from multiple angles, but overall it is too simplified, and the characters are not developed enough. At the beginnig I had the feeling that I could connect to the story, but as it progressed it became more and more of a cliche.

Voici un livre que j'ai dévoré. A première vue le roman parfait pour moi qui vit en ce moment la même chose que l'héroïne au début du livre. J'ai trouvé un peu déstabilisant de lire des choses si négatives et cette lecture m'a fait ressentir un certain malaise. Elle dit l'échec d'une vie multiculturelle, celle pourtant que je désire de tout coeur créer. Forcément je finis ce livre avec un petit pincement au cœur. Néanmoins l'écriture est belle, sublime même. J'ai ainsi pu découvrir les belles éditions tunisiennes Elyzad : c'est un coup de cœur.

Me ha gustado mucho. Una historia muy bien contada y un final muy distinto a lo esperado que te hace cambiar toda la perspectiva del libro
