In Korina Moss's Curds of Prey, murder again comes to Yarrow Glen, and cheesemonger Willa Bauer must be the predator… before she becomes the prey.
Yarrow Glen's favorite cheese shop, Curds & Whey, gets to be a part of the social event of the Summer Harrington’s wedding. Cheesemonger Willa Bauer is going all out for the wedding shower’s cheese bar. But the eagle-eyed Harrington family is proving to be a pain in her asiago. A last-minute tasting ends in disaster when one of Willa’s potential beaux, Roman, gets in a fight with the groom. Then the shower arrives, and while there’s anything but love in the air, there is plenty of cheese. Oh, and Roman... again. The day officially ends in disaster when Willa finds the groom―who also happens to be the mayor’s nephew―in the stable, dead as a dodo. At the mayor’s request, Willa must follow the trail of cheese curds to find a killer while continuing to walk a tightrope between two of Sonoma Valley’s most powerful families.

This book is fantastic! As someone who is a total cheesehead (as in #TEAMCHEESE and not the football team) this was my favorite of the series, so that is saying ALOT! This series gets better and better w/ each read! Korina has me chomping @ the bit to find out what happens next, and I'm so invested in each and every character in this series! AND THE CHEESE!!! THE CHEESE!! This series is a must read for cozy mystery lovers!! I received an arc of this book in exchange for a honest review. I would like to thank netgalley, the author Korina Moss, and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book!
This series gets better with each book, and Curds of Prey kept me on the edge of my seat. Willa's cheese shop is doing well, and a new catering opportunity may open more doors for her cheesy delights. Unfortunately for Willa, things go horribly wrong, at the bridal shower and in her own personal life, leaving her emotions in turmoil. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of the book. #NetGalley #CurdsofPrey
The third book of this series....*drum roll* is excellent.
Apart from these creative, cheese-based titles, there's just everything that I love about this series! Willa herself, for starters, is a totally relatable and likeable heroine, just doing her own thing, being her own person, and immersing herself with cheese because that's what she loves. Her cast of colourful friends--who have officially dubbed themselves Team Cheese for moving forward into all investigations--are just as loveable and unique, and each with their own love stories moving forward as well. *eyebrow wiggle*
However, in this addition to the series, it's Willa's own love life that takes front and centre, as she and Roman have a will they / won't they thing going on, that quickly seems to turn into won't as they both get involved with a murder plot around a bridal shower--for the wedding that is not to be. With Roman as a person of interest and Willa not quite knowing where she stands with him but wanting to help them regardless, the upcoming Valentines' Day celebrations are...eh, put on hold.
Ahem, but anyway, we have our cast of colourful characters, new characters, the gorgeous atmosphere of everything in Yarrow Glen to look forward to, and, of course, lots o' cheese!
What can I say, I just love this series and everything about it and don't see myself being bored of it anytime soon. I HAVE requested from Netgalley to get an ARC of the fourth book of the series, coming out in about a month, but we'll see, we'll see. In any case, ME want to read it SOON!
As Cheesemonger Willa Bauer continues to grow her business she has a grand opportunity to have a cheese bar at a bridal shower for a family who has just taken over All Things Sonoma Magazine, which means fantastic publicity for Curds & Whey. That is something Willa needs after the bad review she received from the former food critic at the magazine. Add to that the groom is the mayor's nephew and impressing her is definitely a good thing. When a last-minute taste testing finally comes to an end Willa gets a huge surprise when her almost-boyfriend Roman arrives and gets into a fight with the groom. Seems Roman knows the bride quite well. Willa is not sure what to think about that.
The day of the shower arrives and Willa is very excited about getting the cheese bar set up until she notices Roman is there again talking to the bride-to-be. When the groom arrives chaos erupts and the party is canceled. Upset, all the vendors pack up along with Willa. But before she leaves she finds herself in the stable looking at a corpse. The groom is dead and she knows Roman will be a suspect. Unsure of her feelings for Roman, she knows he is not a killer. The mayor has asked for Willa's help and she can't get her cheesed off so she finds herself right in the middle of another murder investigation that will hopefully clear Roman of the crime and the mayor happy.
____
With every book in this series, Willa gets stronger which is good because her life gets pretty topsy-turvy in Curds of Prey. Archie and Mrs. Schultz are developing nicely too. They make a strong team both at Curds & Whey and in solving murders. They have become friends and really care about each other. I also enjoy the friendship Willa has with Baz. Together the four of them make up Team Cheese and they sure know how to have fun when the case is closed.
Ms. Moss plotted out a very entertaining mystery with several suspects. I had a good time following along with Team Cheese as they worked through the clues. Willa's sleuthing techniques are definitely improving but she still finds herself in hot water when all is revealed. I really enjoyed all the twists and turns and the exciting reveal.
Romance was in the air with the Valentine's Day theme but there were a lot of shake-ups in the relationships. I really liked that the Good Neighbor Committee set up a F.U.N. (Friendly United Neighbors) dance to bring people together whether they had a Valentine or not. Teenagers that got in trouble in the previous book were tasked to volunteer for the committee until graduation so they were very involved in decorating the hall and promoting the dance. The camaraderie that was built between the elders of the community and the teens was heartwarming. I wish more communities offered more opportunities like this.
There is plenty of mouthwatering cheese talk throughout the story from the different cheese varieties to the food Willa created with cheese. I am always delighted when a few recipes are included at the end of the book. This time a Dutch Baby was made and the recipe was included. I can remember my mother making something very similar when I was growing up so I am excited to try that recipe out soon.
Curds of Prey is a fine addition to this series, in fact, it is my favorite book in the series so far. Fans of culinary cozies, this book/series is for you. I am looking forward to reading the next Cheese Shop Mystery, Case of the Bleus very much.
This is the third book in the Cheese Shop mysteries and Willa Bauer has come a long way in a short time from when she first opened Curds & Whey in Cheddar Of Dead. Willa Bauer has come a long way in a short time from when she first opened Curds & Whey in Cheddar Of Dead. Her shop is becoming well-respected in the town of Yarrow Glen and her friendships with her next door neighbor Baz and with her employees Mrs. Schultz and Archie have grown. I love the camaraderie between these friends as they discuss the cases that Willa becomes involved in. Things are also looking up in the romance department. I think this was a weakness in the first book of the series, but I really liked the new developments that occured for a couple different characters in this book.
Curds of Prey is my favorite so far in this series. I have grown to like Willa more and more with each book and she has become a better investigator as well. She thinks things through more in this book while she was gathering clues and didn't jump to conclusions. The case of a murdered groom-to-be kept my interest from beginning to end. I like the dramatic ending to the case and the way things turn out in the end in the personal lives of a few of the characters. Rounding out the book are a few cheese-related recipes and discussions about different varieties of cheese throughout the story. Fans of this series and readers who enjoy well-written culinary cozies will love this book. I rated it 4.5 stars.
I received an advance copy of this ebook from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.
I've read every book in the Cheese Shop Mystery series, and this third volume continues the fun and intrigue. Really, every book is consistently good, with mysteries that keep you guessing right up until the end. This time around, the Northern California town of Yarrow Glen is gearing up for the wedding of a Harrington daughter, an old-name local family with wealth and prestige. Cheesemonger Willa Bauer is just happy that her cheese gets featured in the wedding shower extravaganza--until she finds out her almost-boyfriend Roman has a history with the bride. He left her at the altar, literally. And the current fiancé doesn't like Roman one bit, either. When the men come to blows--and then the groom is found dead--Roman is suspect number one. Willa and her loyal crew need to come together to find out the real identity of the murderer before Roman is grilled.
Yarrow Glen is such a fun place to explore. This book, set right before Valentine's Day, brings in some romantic drama for Willa as well as others in her team, but the larger emphasis is on the murder mystery. And, of course, there's lots of solid information about cheese, and the back of the book even includes a few recipes!
I enjoy this series so much! Willa is just so down to earth and I love seeing how much she cares about her friends, neighbors, and community where she is trying to establish a new home even though she has only recently arrived. The suspects in the mystery were unlikable, but also had their moments. The romance had me stressed and feeling all of Willa's emotions, but I feel like she handled it so very well. I was not surprised by the reveal, but I enjoyed how it was put together and all the steps along the way. I wish I could visit this cheese shop as I was CONSTANTLY hungry.
Solid mystery with good characters. I still haven’t warmed to Willa but I do adore Archie and Mrs. Schultz. I love learning about the different cheeses and their pairings with both wine and bread; I always find a new combination I want to try. I am a fan of the shift in the romance department as I never felt there was a spark between Willa and her love interest. The writing is easy to follow and flows so well that I do get drawn into the story pretty quickly. I will continue with the series in the hopes I can grow to like Willa because I really do like so many other aspects of this series.
I received a copy from #NetGalley and @stmartinspress for an honest review.
Book #3 in the Cheese Shop Mystery series and my new favorite! Although, they might all just be my favorites lol. A wedding is in the works -not just any wedding...a wedding uniting two people from VERY prominent families! Aaaaaaaaand then Willa finds the groom dead. Oh dear. The mayor recruits Willia, on the down low, to investigate the murder and find out what happened to her nephew before the Harrington family gets away with their scheme....or so she assumes.
Rich people behaving badly + cozy mystery = a page turner!!
I highly recommend this series and can't wait for book 4 in the Fall!
The Cheese Shop Mysteries is fast becoming one of my favourite cozy mystery series! It has everything to keep me coming back for more – solid characters, delicious cheese, a sexy detective, more cheese, great twisty mysteries, did I mention the cheese? In all seriousness, this is wonderful series for cozy mystery lovers to dig into.
First of all, the characters. I love the characters, especially Willa, the protagonist. She’s warm, friendly, and competent. It doesn’t hurt that she’s a cheesemonger and I LOVE cheese (I think you’ve figured that out by now, though). Along with the mystery, I’m enjoying learning about a variety of cheeses. But it’s not just the main character that is well written. The recurring supporting cast, from Willa’s staff, to Willa’s neighbour Baz, to the local shopkeepers and townsfolk, all make appearances throughout the book and many of them continue to develop into great characters on their own.
I really enjoy the way the friendships are portrayed – especially the “Scooby Gang”, or #TeamCheese, Willa’s close-knit friends who area always ready to lend a hand, whether it’s in the shop or solving the latest murder.
Plus, there’s Willa’s two potential love interests – Roman, the charming meadery-owner who has apparently dated every single woman in the vicinity, and Detective Heath, who is much more serious and tight-lipped. Roman does a lot of things in this book that had me screaming “Team Heath!” at my screen several times – I must admit that since book one I’ve been #TeamHeath all the way… so fingers crossed (and no spoilers!).
As for the murder and mystery solving, as usual, it was paced very nicely throughout the book. We are introduced to several new characters who didn’t take long to make their marks. They all added a lot of intrigue to the mix and their personalities were quite vivid and well written. I felt like they were part of the regular group of characters after only a few chapters. You could almost hear the spoiled whining and the tense showdowns between the rich and the powerful.
There were enough motives to keep me guessing and I found the tightrope that Willa had to walk between the mayor, the bride’s mother, and Heath to bring some nice tension into the mix.
Looking back I think there were enough clues for me to figure out who the murderer was but I also enjoyed just sitting back and letting the action unfold. This was a book I definitely read in one sitting because I couldn’t stop until the conclusion (which was satisfying, to say the least).
*** Thank you to the publisher, St. Martin’s Press, for providing me with an e-copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an unbiased review.
CURDS OF PREY is the third book in the Cheese Shop Mystery series, written by Korina Moss. Summer Harrington, accompanied by her mother and sister, attend a cheese tasting at Willa Bauer’s Curds & Whey cheese shop to select cheeses to be served at the next day’s wedding shower. Since The Harringtons are the wealthiest family in Sonoma Valley’s Yarrow Glen and own ALL THINGS SONOMA magazine, Willa accommodates them by holding the meeting in her cheese shop after hours. Trouble ensues when Summer’s fiancé, Nelson, runs into Willa’s love interest, Roman. Willa is shocked to discover that Roman had been engaged to Summer Harrington and had previously left Summer at the alter. Has Roman’s appearance ended Summer’s happily-ever-after wedding to Nelson?
I enjoyed reading the story from Willa’s viewpoint. She is a well-drawn character and a keen observer. The plot progresses nicely to a satisfying conclusion. And then, of course, there is all that cheese. Yum!
Thank you, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley, for giving me the opportunity to read and review the e-arc of CURDS OF PREY.
Our favorite cheesemonger is back! And this time she’s catering a bridal shower’s cheese bar. All is smooth sailing until Roman (someone Willa is interested in) gets into a fight with the groom. The shower goes on but at the end, Willa finds the groom dead in the stable. She takes on find out what happened in her usual way.
These books are just so fun. I say it every time, but Willa has my dream job and she just always gets into such shenanigans. I love all the side characters, especially her other employees. I’ve been to Sonoma once before and this series really makes you want to take a trip!
Thank you @stmartinspress and @korinamossauthor for my gifted ebook. The 4th book on the series, A Case of the Bleus out now and I’ll be reading it soon!
What a fun read. I liked the first in the series, I love all the cheese talk, the shop, fellow shop owners, small town feel but I was neutral on Willa, even in the second book, good mystery, more cheese ❤❤❤, on the fence with our main character, but I have to say in this third book I have finally become a Willa fan. I feel like I finally get where she is coming from and I guess her experience with murders have made her a little more cautious and thoughtful about how her actions affect others. Good mystery, lots of possible suspects and a main character that is really growing a wonderful "family " around her and her wonderful cheese shop!
Curds Of Prey is such a clever name for a cozy based around a cheese shop. This is perfect for this 3rd next in series of this charming cozy series set in Sonoma CA. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinions are my own. I highly recommend this cozy series for outstanding charcters, a well plotted and enjoyable sleuth and the atmospheric setting of small town wine country.
Willa has been asked to provide a elegant cheese bar for a wedding shower of a important family in Sonoma. The bride to be and family are difficult to please. When tempers fly at the shower she knows trouble is ahead and sure enough the groom is found murdered. The goom is from the Mayor's family and soon the two families are at war with Willa determined to find the right clue to lead her to the killer.
This is such a fun series. The author has brought life in Sonoma to her pages deftly with enjoyable charcters and always a fun sleuth. I look forward to the next in series.
Yarrow Glen's favorite cheese shop, Curds & Whey, gets to be a part of Summer Harrington’s wedding. Cheese monger Willa Bauer is going all out for the wedding shower’s cheese bar. A tasting ends in disaster when Willa’s potential beaux, Roman, gets in a fight with the groom. Then at the end of the wedding shower Willa finds the groom in the stable, dead. Willa must follow the trail of cheese curds to find a killer before she gets creamed. This was a wonderful cozy mystery full of tasty characters and a scrumptious plot. Willa is one of my favorite sleuths because she tries to work with law enforcement, and she doesn't think that they are stupid. I also love that the law enforcement characters are well crafted and not dumbed down. But the best thing about this story is the plot. I always try to figure out whodunit, but I was very surprised with the culprit in the end. I can't wait to read another tasty mystery from Korina Moss. Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for this advanced reader's copy. This review is my unbiased opinion.

THOUGHTS:
This series is so good! I was so happy to be back in Yarrow Glen!
We get the murder pretty early on (@ 15% mark) which is nice! Lots of time to figure out the mystery with all the potential suspects. I had a feeling who the killer was near the beginning but it didn’t stop me from enjoying Willa and the crew from solving the whodunnit. Every investigative team has a name and they picked ‘Team Cheese.’ It’s definitely very fitting for them!
I’m excited to see where the love interest is going to go for the next one! I’m all for Detective Heath. So fingers crossed!! And I love when we get recipes in the back — goat cheese breakfast quesadilla, savory oven pancake (aka Dutch baby or German pancake!), and spicy snack on a stick. I’m so glad the Brussels sprout grilled cheese sandwich didn’t make it in the back as a recipe. I’m with Baz on that one, no thank you!! Willa can have that all on her own. Haha!
If you haven’t read this series yet, do it!! Even all you non-cheese fans would still enjoy it!
In the third Cheese Shop cozy mystery, shop owner and cheese monger Willa is set to cater a bridal shower--only the groom turns up dead! When Willa's love interest is the prime suspect, she takes to investigating what may have actually happened. But two powerful families with competing interests both want her to stick her nose into things and butt out!
Like the others before it, Curds of Prey is a solid, traditional cozy mystery. I thought the mystery itself was intriguing, with a large cast of suspects the puzzle pieces coming together. Willa has begun to grate on me (ha! a cheese pun!) a bit, with her naivete, particularly when it comes to love and putting herself in dangerous situations. I don't want to spoil too much, but I'm glad where she ended up in this one.
Thanks to St. Martin's Press for my eARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Business is going well for Willa and her cheese shop, Curds and Whey. When she is hired to produce a scrumptious cheese array for a bridal shower she has hope that it will help her get more catering gigs. That would be great but a killer joins the event and it's a mess. Willa's (sort of) boyfriend, Roman, it turns out, has serious history with the bride and it isn't good. He left her standing at the alter. Now he and the groom go toe to toe displaying a very strong dislike between them. When the groom turns up dead and Roman is in the police spotlight for the crime, Willa is involved every which way. Time for Willa and her friends to track down the killer. I have enjoyed each book in this series and not just because I love cheese. Willa is a likable character and the mystery is a well developed puzzle to solve. What more could a cozy mystery offer the reader? My thanks to the publisher St. Martin's and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
Man I love this series. Every book is fun and full of cozy goodness. I love all the characters, but especially Willa, Baz, Archie and Mrs. Schultz. Team Cheese for the win lol
I also love this author's writing. It's just so easy to read and get lost in and before I know it I'm done with the story. I can't wait for the next installment to see what they get mixed up in next.
I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
Thanks to the publisher, via Edelweiss, for an advance e-galley for honest review.
A cozy series that has consistently been better book over book, and I enjoyed this one. The sweet and supportive community is the highlight of this one, and the mystery causes complicated feelings for Willa and her relationships. Solid!
Just keeps getting better if that is even possible the whole series knocks it out of the park for me. This installment truely kept me guessing until the end and I was happy to save gave me a nice little surprise. Wonderful reads, best writing I have found in a long time.
I love a good cozy mystery and am now fully invested in our heroine’s love life. Willa is totally relatable and her cheese shop is my dream. I am constantly hungry when I read these; the descriptions are mouth-watering! So far I also have been relatively surprised by the twists in the story, which I appreciate because cozy mysteries tend to be easy to figure out. I really enjoyed this particular story line, set at an engagement party. The little quips and salty comments that are subtlety written into the banter always make me smirk. The book was totally enjoyable and a quick read. 3.5 ⭐️
Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my unbiased opinion.
I think this is the best one yet in this series! There was lots of excitement and plenty of suspects. I also enjoyed Willa's romantic woes. I won't tell you how that came out but I was pleased with the outcome. Willa's gang of friends and helpers are getting into all kinds of adventures as well and I really like the characters. I heard this book on Audio and the reader was great but I think I prefer these in paperback.
Another Winner! This series is everything I want in a cozy and more. The people, the community, the story, everything!!! Team Cheese!!! Ps. I want Baz to win 💖
When a groom ends up murdered at a wedding event Curds & Whey is catering Willa and #teamcheese is on the case. She uncovers local political ties and a love triangle connected to the prominent Harrington family of Sonoma Valley. As the investigation takes a deadly turn Willa finds out just how far the suspects will go to keep secrets covered up!
With a little romance, a lot of cheese and a great friend group what more could you ask for?
I love this series! This is the third book so far and I feel like we really know the main characters now, the books just keep getting better. The author does a great job of describing scenery and making the storyline feel so realistic. I would love to reread the series on audio, I think it would be even better.
I love the way the romance is developing in this series! It is slow and unsure and seems realistic. I thought the developments in this one were just perfect. The mystery involves a lot of complicated people and we meet a couple great new to us people in Yarrow Glen. So we are emotionally invested in who the 'bad guy' is. However I figured out who the murderer was about halfway through. I was also able to figure out one of the twists pretty early on as well, so I was a smidge frustrated that Willa didn't think of what seemed obvious to me. I would have liked to see a little bit more of the cheese shop, but we did get to see lots of Archie, Mrs. Schultz, and Baz. It was good to see all of them come together as a team. Overall this was a good book to bring the characters together as a team and move the romance forward.
