Woodsboro Duet #2

United in Ashes

Rate this book
My step-sister is the thorn in my side, and the only thing I've ever wanted that I couldn't have.
I've broken her to ensure there's nothing left of Woodsboro but ashes.
As secrets are revealed, and friends turn to enemies, one thing is clear.
Carrington Jane wasn't the enemy all along.
It turns out, she was the only one I could trust.

This is book TWO in the Woodsboro duet and book one must be read first. It is a DARK, MF STEP-BROTHER college romance with DARK ACADEMIA VIBES. Sebastian is Jealous/Possessive antihero. Please note that there are dark themes throughout that may make some readers uncomfortable. There is no cheating.

United in Ashes picks up immediately following the cliffhanger we were left on at the end of Twisted in Flames. CJ has been trapped in a mausoleum, which is engulfed in flames.

“I’ve got you. If you just hang on for me, I’ll make up for every fcuking thing I’ve ever done to you. I’ll grovel just like Declan said I would. I don’t even know what that means, but I’ll do it for you.”

Once CJ is released from the infirmary, the investigation into who is behind Blaine’s murder and the attempt on her life is in full force.

As our characters grow through trials and tragedy, we see our tortured hero, Sebastian, emerge with a desire to ensure CJ knows his feelings. Have no fear, Bash remains the unrepentant, no fcuks given, OTT alphahole you’ve come to expect - and love!

With secondary characters playing a strong role in the storyline, it’s easy to get excited about the potential stories that could be developed for the other Wolves of Woodsboro. And I am here for it!

Not to mention the cameos from our favorite psÿchös from atop Hollow Hill. I’m a sucker for a well-crafted universe and I absolutely love the connections to Rory’s other stories.

This is the end of the duet, with an HEA.
Sebastian decides to trust Carrington Jane and finally admits his feelings.
description
They're all crazy and that takes some of the sinister part of the book, becoming a bit softer.
I'd love to find out more about their friends, I think they all deserved a story.
Wilder and Declan.
Nathaniel, Delaney and Cruz.
They can only count with each other, and with Wilder's cousin, Remington and the Ravens of Hollow Hill with some help to get guns.
A lot of twists and turns, and someone has to die, so they can finally get the truth.
This is so sexy and sinister.
description
description
I loved all of them.
Nathaniel, Delaney and Cruz were the funny ones, I'm curious how Delaney will get rid of her old fiancé.
Will Wilder and Declan assume their relationship to the others? Though CJ and Bastian caught them in the church, they don't talk about it.
And the chemistry between CJ and Bastion is something else...
I was so obsessed by these duet, that all that I write it won't give the right credit to how good this is!

This picks up right as book 1 ends. Sebastian saving Carrington from being burned alive. Recovering and trying to find more answers they finally learn some truths about Blaine (dead brother) secerts are never hidden for long. Now the Wolves have some clues and I think I figured out who was the killer at a scene. I just didn't know why he did what he did until the end.

Beside that mystery I love the relationship between Carrington and Sebastian he did grovel for the "mean" things he did to his girl and boy that man knows how to say sorry. Spicy times in a church spying on your friends having there own spicy times. The rest of the gang was pretty cool makes me wonder if there getting books?

OTT JP obsessive H/ steamy/ all is revealed

Whheeeewwwwwww 👏🏼👏🏼 Man this duet was sooo good. I’m going to change my ratings to both as 4.75 and will be buying this set. It was so good and it’s a quick read that kept me on the end of my seat! I hope there’s more of the side characters stories coming. I honestly wanna read Remingtons book lol 😂

The things: 🥩 🥔
-OTT JP obsessed H… in this book we get the same delicious possessiveness from Bash we love plus the sweetness of them finally being a thing.
-FINALLY A COUPLE 🥰🥰 this is what I wanted in book one and it’s pretty much resolved at the beginning of this story. Bash is still the same but he’s no longer fighting how he feels about the h. He’s claiming her as his girl and she just had to get on board lol 😂
-Steamy 🥵 my goodness the “good girl” “my little slut” had me needing to change my damn undies yall 🥵😮‍💨🤌🏻
-mystery revealed… man I thought I knew the twist… I was wronngggg 😳😳 but I kinda wished this part was stretched out a bit but it’s a short book so I’ll just ignore lol.
-HFN/HEA… the epilogue is only 9 weeks after graduation so we don’t see babies or much to know how they end but I’m thinking we may see more in the other books of the side characters down the road possibly.
-NO OP drama at all/ no cheating/ no sharing. Not dark and no bullying. It’s a stepbrother romance but beside saying step sister it didn’t feel that way 🤷🏻‍♀️ sooo I just ignored it lol.

This was gripping. I DEVOURED this duet ok? Sooooo damn good. It had that juicy, yummy, OTT possessive H that I love ❤️ it’s a shorter read so it’s not gonna have drawn out drama or issues everything is kinda wrapped up at once in one spot and not gonna lie idk how Ella was involved at all.. but whatever 🤷🏻‍♀️😜 I rate on how I feel and even though this duet has so much i loveeee in my books, it was a smidge off for me. Like how is Ella involved? Did they have babies? I mean we know she wasn’t on BC and he was obsessed with his 🥜 dripping outta her. The fact that multiple rich/influential people just disappear and there’s no questions? No cover up? Lol ok. Who was even CJs mom? And he has her last name changed to McCoy… the fuck else was it? Cause I sure don’t remember 😂 overall i LOVED this duet & will be buying to reread. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤌🏻

The words “I could not put this down” have never been truer. I have absolutely devoured every word of this duet. The first book was hot and this one was an all out furnace!!

After the cliffhanger that we were left with in the first book, we pick tight back up from where we were. And the hits just keep on coming. The gang is all back together, and secrets are revealed.

Sebastian & Carrington continue their love hate relationship and the results are like fireworks on the Fourth of July!!

I have to say that ending, I did not see coming. I did have my doubts about the culprit early on but then I dismissed it and thought it was someone else!!! It’s so good!! I I’ve it when you’re chasing your tail with no clue of who the bad character is!!!

I really wish this was a series. I desperately want a peak into the relationships between Declan & Wilder and the terrible trio Delaney, Nathaniel & Cruz!! I love the camaraderie between all of the characters but there is a special place for Declan’s dry wit, it does something to me!!

I’m excited to see what else Rory Ireland brings to the table. I’m so glad I found her stories!!

3.5 stars

Damn.
Damn.
Damn!

I so wanted to give it 5 stars but I can't.

I'll get to that in a sec but first I'd like to focus on the positives and things I really loved.

First off, the plot.
It was dark, twisty and had that aura of taboo and mystery and I freaking loved that.

The story revolves around Carrington/CJ and Sebastian/Bash, step siblings attending the same college who just lost their brother Blaine (his and Bash's father married CJ's mother).
But the thing is that Blaine's death was no accident and someone tries to sweep the dirt under a rug.

What's better, Carrington knows something (not a lot as it turns out later) and Bash is determined to find out what it is that she's hiding.

What's more, he is completely and utterly obsessed with her. Has been since the day they met.
Unfortunately for him, Blaine was the golden boy while Sebastian had a reputation of a psycho with no feelings and emotions other than anger and resentment. And Blaine was the one CJ befriended and got close to.
In everyone's eyes, they were a couple and Sebastian's jealousy was spiraling out of control.
So when Blaine dies, Bash is on a mission to discover her secrets and find out who was behind his death.
And when CJ's life is in danger, his obsession and protectiveness come shining through.

That leads me to my next point, namely Sebastian McCoy, our anti/hero who was the real shining star here.
He was seriously fucked up, possessive and controlling, broody but hot-headed, dark and complex, vindictive and completely unapologetic.
And I dug that.

Another positive surprise were Sebastian's friends, our side characters, the most influential group in school called The Wolves. Charismatic and mysterious, equally fucked up and yet redeemable and sweet. I loved them all. And I'd like to read more about them.

However, the absolute cherry on top was the fantastic chemistry between Carrington and Sebastian.
They had the kind of relationship where lines blurred all the time and their hate towards each other was almost as strong as their love.
Because they did love each other, ready to die to protect the other.
And that was cute af.

So why not 5 stars for this one?

Well, for 3 simple reasons.

Reason #1

Because Carrington Jane - CJ- our heroine lost her spine in this one.

After all the shit that happened in the last scene in the graveyard in Twisted in Flames she was supposed to make Sebastian grovel like a dog on his knees, begging her to forgive him.

Unfortunately, her vagina seemed to have a direct link to her brain and it was either one or the other working, never together, and usually it was her pussy taking the lead because once he touched her, her brain and ability to think seemed to shut down like a roach infested diner.

She promised him she would make him grovel and yet she never delivered.
And in my eyes, a character that says one thing and does sth completely opposite is a weak character.
And CJ was no exception.
She did have the potential to shine but it was lost due to fact that her throbbing clit had a mind on its own and was doing all the thinking.
And I didn't like that.

Reason #2

Because the dirty sex that featured a lot of degradation dominated the plot.

They fucked like rabbits in this one and I normally like my books hot and steamy but degradation isn't my jam, that's one.
And two, with all the dirty, aggressive, kinky sex in public places I was waiting for at least one scene of some sweet love-making. And when we got none, well, that pissed me off quite a bit.
I get that the main characters are equally fucked in the head but some balance every now and then might be nice.
And that lack of subtlety was a big bummer.

Reason #3

Because 5 people got killed and what? Nothing happens?
No consequences or question raised when 5 well-known people suddenly disappear from this earth?

Better, they left the graveyard making jokes, like their friends and family members weren't shot right there and then, like their friend didn't betray them, like they didn't have blood on their hands, like the world they'd known didn't just turn upside down, simply like nothing happened.

And I was like, what the actual fuck?

It wasn't just weird. That was unnatural and unrealistic. And I didn't like that a bit.
Maybe if the epilogue had given us some more information about how their lives went on after all that, then maybe I wouldn't be bitching about it now.
But it didn't and so here I am.

All in all, I did love this duet. First book way more than this one, true, but they come as a package deal so it's only fair if I round up the rating to 4 stars.

And like I've already mentioned, I truly hope we'll get a book for each of the side characters because they were fantastic.

This duet was my first read from Rory but deffo not last.
I loved the writing style, it was really good.
I know she has some other books available but I'll skip the menage as I'm not a fan of that.
But if she ever comes with something strictly F/M, I'll be on it like a rat on a cheeto.
Hands down.

Sebastian and Carrington were really perfect in this book.
The book starts where the last one ended.
I love how their relationship grows and they finally trust and communicate with each other!
The drama in this and the plot twist were absolutely great. I was shocked and never knew what to expect!

Enemies to lovers, dubcon, Step-siblings, taboo/forbidden, primal, degradation, breathe play, praise

This book picks up where book 1 ended. The investigation into what happened to Blaine and who’s sending threatening notes commences. Sebastian was everything in this book - he was possessive, dark, complex and controlling but was so caring to Carrington. The Wolves, Sebastian’s friends were equally fucked up as Sebastian but ever so sweet. The drama ans plot twist were great!

3.5 because although I did enjoy this duet, I can't say that I liked it as much as the other stories in this Hillsboro world. However, like her other stories, you'll still get an absolutely psychotic, possessive, jealous and OTT H in Sebastian, which amazingly, I didn't hate. I think if I'm being critical, I could say his diatribes were repetitive, but given that he's pretty nuts, it worked lol. I didn't get annoyed.

I loved Carrington for being such a strong and solid character that was honest with her feelings and also understood how to handle Sebastian. Not a traitorous body in this whole story and I fucking applaud Ireland for not doing so. Sebastian's friends and the inter-relationships that took place within their group makes me think some of these characters will have their own stories. I actually hope that would be the case as I would love to know more about Declan and Wilder.

I'm happy enough with how the secret and mystery got resolved, but to fully enjoy this Hillsboro town and world, suspend belief of what's normal.

Picking right up where Twisted in Flames left off United in Ashes takes us back to solving the mystery that plagues the wolves.

Sebastian still very obsessed with his step sister Carrington but now singing a different tune he’s soften towards her and it’s a beautiful thing how much their relationship develops in this book.

So much character growth with Sebastian and Carrington I really think they brought out the best in one another. She softens him and controls his rage when usually he would fly off the handle it was the sweetest thing. Make no mistake though Sebastian is still a total alpha hole and you don’t want to touch what’s his and he will destroy those that do, and that will never change.

All your questions get answered as the group solves the mystery and it finally comes to a bloody head with revelations and murders.

Loving the interaction between all the wolves I mean the relationships going on in the circle I need more!

"I'd burn the world down and bathe in the ashes for this girl. She'll always be my forever."

The conclusion to Sebastian and Carringtons story is absolutely PERFECT!!

United in Ashes is book #2 in the Woodburo duet. Its a dark romance, make sure to check the trigger warning.

Almost losing Carrington has made my love Sebastian change his attitude. He is much sweeter to our girl, but oh boy does he still f**k her like he hates her!! And this man's dirty mouth, goodness gracious!! Talk about panty melting!!

We get answers to all our questions, get to see a few other characters from Rorys other books, and we get to see Sebastian and Carrington get their happily ever after.

You will be glued to these pages!! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!! The Woodsburo duet is a must read!!!!

This picks up right where the first book left off and Rory did not disappoint.

Carrington - this young woman stays smart and brave. I love her fight and how she knows how to push Sebastian’s buttons.

Sebastian made up for what he did and more, but stayed true to his way of doing things. His protective side made me swoon so hard.

I loved seeing these two overcome the obstacles in their paths and come together as the couple that they deserved to be.

This is a high octane adrenaline ride of twists, action and steam that I devoured in one sitting. Honestly, Rory developed the character and plot perfectly - there wasn’t a single moment I felt like the story was rushed at all. The surprise twists and hot as sin steam kept me glued to my kindle and on the edge of my seat - I loved every single minute. I can’t wait to see what this talented author writes next

Wow! This book picked up right where the first one left off and we get right to it ! This one is full of twists and turns secrets lies and a shocking betrayal that I didn’t see coming my jaw was on the floor! I love the characters especially the side characters I loved seeing Bash and CJ come to terms with their feelings for each other and holy smokes was the sex hot ! This was another quick but very satisfying read she’s able to wrap up this story nicely within very few chapters and that’s storytelling at its finest! Rory Ireland has definitely moved to my automatic one click authors list everything I’ve read by her has been gold and this story was no different I highly recommend this duet you won’t be disappointed I can’t wait to see what she does next !

United in Ashes by Rory Ireland has been a great conclusion to the Woodsboro Duet and this sinful, taboo story is firmly placed in my favorite forbidden romance novels shelf. From the beginning, I have loved how intense Sebastian was towards Carrington Jane. Every decision he takes, every move he makes is done with wild abandon because he can not fathom a single moment without his stepsister. I find that kind of devotion, that type of commitment and that deep of possession utterly breathtaking. Rory Ireland has fast become one of my favorite authors in this genre and I am looking forward to reading many more stories by her.

There’s not really a good way to review this book without massive spoilers but what I can say is that the dark and twisty story that we got in Twisted in Flames is brought to a very satisfying conclusion that kept me guessing until the very end!

Sebastian is just as toxic and hot AF, our new favorite side characters continue to have the best one liners (Delaney) and there’s more Declan + Wilder tension (who do I have to bargain with to get a spin off asap?!), and we finally get the answers we’ve been waiting for!

So I definitely recommend reading this duet the next time the dark & spicy mood hits 🖤🔥

What an ending to this duology. I really enjoyed reading this one. This book was just super fun to read. I loved the vibe of this one and the romance was pretty great too. This book was just a joy to read and I enjoyed it, a lot.

3.25*

I loved this ending. The way it all came together and wrapped itself up in a nice bow was great. Just what I needed. If this author made more books for the other characters I would devour those as well. Some things were a little lackluster and I do wish that this did have a darker edge to it. The HEA at the end was nice and the smut was great. Overall was a fun little duet/duology for me to explore this particular trope.

OH MY GOD!
I mean.. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect ending! Except maybe that it didn’t actually end and we just got more of Bash and CJ like FOREVER! 😩
I honestly loved the first book so much that I wasn’t sure this one could out do it. Love it the same? Of course but more? Nah there was no way! Well let me tell you I was so WRONG! Just when I thought Sebastian couldn’t get any better here comes Rory with an upgrade to psychotic AND groveling.. but still in his own possessive, taking control alphahole sort of way. 😆
Ugh the things that come out of his mouth are downright sinful and so heavenly at the same time! And I love how CJ pushes his buttons but also calms him. They are simply perfect for each other. I felt like we get a lot more interaction and page time with the side characters in this one as well without taking away from our main couple. Delaney is a girl after my own heart I swear it so I was thrilled that she was so involved and spoke up so much. As well as the little moments between her, Nathanial, and Cruz that kept building tension. (Dying to see if anything happens there *ahem ahem*)
But then Declan and Wilder? The church?!
🎶 Show praise with your body. Stand up, sing hallelujah! 🎶
I. Am. Here. For. It.
I will also be needing a book for them please and thank you! 😊
Ok back to the point of this review. The plot - dang I didn’t see that coming. Part of it made so much sense once it was pointed out but the rest of it I was like whoa.. he/she did what?! I mean surprised is an understatement. So along with all of the other wonderfully delicious morsels of these two books you get a pretty awesome mystery story line out of it that has one hell of a reveal.
Oh my I have rambled on and on because I can’t seem to shut up about this book.. ok really both of them. End result is I love, love, loved it and I’m so mad that I don’t have my own Sebastian because.. Gah I love him! 🥺 Now I must go find a way to erase these two books from my memory.. so I can read them all over again for the first time. 😭😭

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

My step-sister is the thorn in my side, and the only thing I've ever wanted that I couldn't have. I've broken her to ensure there is nothing left of Woodsboro but ashes. As secrets are revealed, and friends turn to enemies, on things is clear. Carrington Jane wasn't the enemy all along. It turns our, was was the only one I could trust.

This is the second book in the Woodsboro Duet. You need to read Twisted in Flames before this book and this is a dark book so you need to heed the warnings in the beginning of the book. This picks up right where Twisted in Flames left off and we find Carrington in danger and Sebastian realizes finally that he would burn the world down for her and that he shouldn't have treated her like he did and said the things that he said to her that broke her. Carrington finally spills the secret and I was as lost as I would have been if I hadn't read the book and knew what was going on. Now they have more secrets spilling. The ones they think they can trust just might not be that trustworthy after all and Sebastian is willing to destroy the world for Carrington. I can not say anymore about the book and give something away. I loved this one just as much as the first. I tried to understand Sebastian and his grief in the first book and I didn't not not like him but I really loved who he became in this second book. Carrington is on tough female character to put up with Sebastian. I loved reading this duet. This was a great conclusion!

4.5 Stars! 💀 🖤

As soon as i reached the end of Twisted In Flames i instantly started counting down the days until i could have this book in my life! I started looking forward to the month of June right away. I had to dive into this second installment right away and i got pulled right back into the Woodsboro world! I loved this second installment!

Sebastian and Carrington's journey continues! After everything in the first installment, i wasn't sure what all was going to happen next in this story! These characters and their journey hooked me once again! I couldn't wait to see how everything would play out for them this time around.

I was so glad that i got to jump back into both of their minds and get more of these two. Once again, both Sebastian and Carrington had me feeling so dang much throughout their journey! Their story kept me guessing, on my toes, and blushing! I fell even more for these characters this time.

It made my book loving heart so happy to be back in the Woodsboro world and reunite with the Wolves crew!

With United In Ashes, Ms.Ireland has created such a great and dark continuation with heat that had me utterly glued to my kindle! She brings such a one of a kind darkness each time that i cannot get enough of! I can't wait to read what she comes up with next! Don't miss out on the Woodsboro Duet! 💀 🖤

3.7 stars. I really like this author's stories overall, she's great at jealous/possessive/ psycho heroes who are kind of OTT, but also walk a fine line and don't feel too ridiculous. This one is a solid step brother college one. And, it seems to set up possible books for the side characters, which I would be into.

I gave it a smidge under 4 stars because just like this authors other books Indecent Infatuation and Violent Peak, the story starts slightly later than it should. This author loves to start a story by dropping the reader into the middle of it, when the hero and heroine already have an established relationship - and it would be nice if she started one a bit sooner, so that we could see it develop more. In this one, yes, they only first sleep together in this book, but their love/hate dynamic was already pre-established before this story began, and we're dropped into the middle of it. Also, the plot line with how his brother really died was a bit too convoluted. But, overall this author writes a good dark story with solid psycho heroes, and I'll definitely read her other releases.

This is exactly what I had been hoping for! I loved it! It picks up right where the first book left off, so it doesn’t feel as if any time has passed. It’s the perfect conclusion to this duet! This book cannot be read by itself, you must read Twisted in Flames first. If you’ve read that you know this is a dark book, make sure you read the trigger warnings ahead of time.

After almost losing Carrington Jane, Sebastien is more determined than ever to keep her. His obsession continues but he’s no longer fighting against her, rather, they begin working together to solve the mystery they’ve found themselves at the center of. I love getting to see the two of them settle their differences and work together to overcome the obstacles put in front of them. CJ is such a bad**s in a sweetheart’s body. She’s fierce and feisty, she doesn’t back down and she refuses to be pushed to the side in the name of her safety. Sebastian is the same dark antihero we all have come to love. While they might not be on opposing sides, he is still as dark and twisted as ever. I thought Rory knocked it out of the park yet again. The characters are fabulous, and the mystery of it all will keep you sucked in until the very last word. I highly recommend this duet to anyone who loves dark and twisty novellas. It’s high action, high spice – HIGHLY entertaining.
