A cute and short read with some tongue-in-cheek jokes at vampire and werewolf stereotypes, and how we might imagine a modern-day relationship between those two would play out. This is more of a slice-of-life book; I would be interested in seeing a narrative to make the book feel more memorable.

Decided to download this one off of NetGalley on a whim and I am SO GLAD that I did. This was so stinking cute and it warmed the heck out of my heart. If you're looking for a super fun romance between a VAMPIRE and a WEREWOLF, look no further. This was absolutely adorable.

Hey there,
this is me speaking from the webcomic rabbit hole.
It’s still cozy in here. ;-P

This said, I found this on tapas and was immediately intrigued. I mean a relationship between a vampire and a werewolf? It sounded interesting and I decided to investigate.

So first things first: I know this is titled as a webcomic, but I think this might not be the right description for “Fangs”. This was no story with a central theme but rather little snippets of Elsie’s and Jimmy’s story that starts when they meet in a bar. Because of this the pacing is pretty fast and it seems like they jump right into their relationship and push the “fast forward” button instead of taking it slow. So I think “sequential art” might be the most accurate description here and I noticed that a lot of reviewers already put it in that genre which is great! =)

As for the story itself: I loved it! Elsie and Jimmy are so adorable and I loved the black humour. It was on point and caused me to smirk whenever they did something “typical”. Yes, the author might exploit a lot of clichés here, but she did it in a fun way and truth be told this only added to my enjoyment. ;-)

All told I really liked “Fangs” and I kind of want more of those two super sweet little monsters! *lol*

This was a very quick read, but a very fun one. Has lots of humour and one liners in here that made me smile or chuckle to myself. Spooky, cute, funny and adorable, not much else to say but that!

This… this has no right to be this adorable. Sarah Andersen (known for her excellent Sarah Scribbles comics) turns to a romantic slice-of-life comedy… about a vampire and a werewolf dating.

So, I confess, this struck just the right cord for me. I like slice-of-life comedic comics, I like horror related subjects and my favorite forms of comedy tend to be dark sarcasm and stupid puns. In other words, it was like this comic was written for me. I loved every page. Even when the jokes didn't land (which for me was very rare) I loved the personality of these two characters. I delighted in their antics and loved seeing their dynamic.

Honestly my biggest issue is that it's too short. I wish this was much longer. I understand that maybe it was harder to keep going given the less than serious tone without getting too repetitive, but I wish it would have had multiple years worth of comics rather than the relatively few we got. Still, it's a gem and one I truly enjoyed. 4/5 stars.

Elsie’s a vampire and Jimmy’s a werewolf and they’re girlfriend and boyfriend and hilarity ensues and waffle waffle…

Sarah Andersen moves away from her Sarah’s Scribbles gag strips to produce… basically the same thing albeit with less cartoony art and centred around vampire/werewolf tropes.

What’s your type? Elsie asks. Blood type that is!

… ugh…

Did you ever date another werewolf?
Yes, cute girl, but could turn into a real bitch.
And did you ever date a vampire?
Yeah! He sucked.

HAR DE HAR HAR!!1

Werewolves are like dogs - look, Jimmy hates the postman ‘cos he’s a werewolf and that’s like a dog and arhharhgh… He chases squirrels, she takes a selfie but she’s a vampire so she’s invisible. Sunlight, silver, blood… all the expected bullshit is here.

Your mileage will vary depending on your sense of humour but I found Fangs to be full of really obvious, predictable, unoriginal, unfunny, tedious, vapid, banal, and self-satisfied easy “jokes”. I was bored from start to finish but I can see plenty of people raving about her strips because they seem designed for the social media crowd who consider looking at Instagram “reading”.

If you thought her last Sarah’s Scribbles book was bad, Sarah Andersen hasn’t improved now that she’s decided to write for the Twilight crowd. Fangs but no fangs, Sarah.

Just a cute, adorable, funny, sexy book that features a werewolf (m) and vampire (f) couple. IT'S SO CUTE AND FUNNY.

There's no story, really, each page is its own little self-contained comic. But their relationship does progress - the book opens with them meeting at a bar, and it gets more and more serious the closer you come to the end.

In my opinion, this is a must-buy. I don't often purchase books, but this is A+. So adorable. Would make a great gift as well.

So typical of Sarah! She's my bias 🖤

Oh the puns.

And the sarcasm.

And the obvious fun illustrations.

This couple is the best!

The vampire girl and the werewolf guy.

Who would have thought eh?

Maybe my Twilight Saga dreams has been made to come to life. Maybe.

But yes, no Jacob vibes or Bella vibes.

This guy is more real and funny. And the girl is sassy real as well.

Damn, Sarah. We have got the same humour. You get me everytime.

When spoken out loud they may turn to lame jokes where nobody laughs but it's like our own joke when you draw and say it and me read and snort out of it.

I am so going to reread this one like her previous other Sarah Scribbles collections.

I love this woman and her work.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

I FEEL SO BLESSED NOW.

When you are so perfect for each other but oh, so different...

Super cute graphic novel involving snippets of the life between a vampire and a werewolf. Almost every page with bring a smile if not a chuckle with its humor and wit. The jokes are fun, dark, clever, poke fun and have cute graphics.

I absorbed this book when looking for a break and enjoyed the snippets/glances into their love life in modern society while being paranormal creatures.

Super cute, super fun and a great read!

Thank you to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for the E-arc!

Fangs is a short graphic novel following the relationship/romance between a vampire and a werewolf. It is meant to be humorous and fairly light hearted.

Going in, I’d expected something of a coherent story. Instead, every new page of story jumps to a seperate day in the characters’ lives. Normally I wouldn’t mind time skips like this, though things move so quickly that I held no attachment to either protagonist. There is little to no development and I could hardly get a feel for the characters at all.

This may have been the intention as Fangs is a humor based graphic novel, though even that aspect fell flat for me. A series of one liners and quick wit was not able to land well, as every joke was based off of the characters’ vampirism and werewolf side rather than their actual personalities.

In short, there wasn’t much that was creative or unique about this, and the art style wasn’t as refined as I would have preferred. A splash of colour in the drawings could have done wonders, though I understand why a horror-esque themed story might be in black and white.

I've been seeing different sequences from this book around social media on occasion, but I wouldn't have pegged it as something drawn by Sarah Andersen. And I say that with sincere admiration, that she can draw some truly awesome stuff, using wildly different styles too.

For all that I've greatly enjoyed every bit of this little booklet, there's not much of a story in it. And for all my stalling, I was done reading it in an hour. Yes, I definitely took my sweet little time with every single cutesy and/or comedic image. And well... that's rarely going to earn more than an average rating in my (scoring) book. That said, the story is definitely sweet, inspirational, and sufficiently contemporary in feel in spite of its fantastic elements.

On a more personal note, I can definitely resonate with their outings at the beach. That's me under the umbrella. Every. Single. Time. *toothy grin*

Sarah Anderson has been doing humor/autobio comics through Sarah Scribbles for several years, and here she turns to an actual graphic novel about two goth/hipster twenty-somethings (in body age, anyway; I'll explain), one a vampire, the other a wereolf. Oh, yeah, they are in love. And they hang out watching horror movies, taking moonlit walks and so on. I really like it, and just as I was ready to post I see that Sam one stars it and Chad two stars it? Different strokes, I guess. The drawing is great, the comic timing is great, it's funny, what's not to like? It's not really so much a "novel" as a series of cartooned jokes, arranged from a web-comic to feel like an episodic comics series. I thought it was sweet, so there.

This is insubstantial but super cute. One night, Elsie, a vampire, and Jimmy, a werewolf, meet at Odditorium bar and quickly begin a romance. This graphic novel is simply a series of jokes concerning the unique circumstances of vampires and werewolves plus the unique circumstances of a vampire and werewolf in a relationship. It's never laugh-out-loud funny, but it is amusing and creative. It would probably be a five-star read if it had a plot.

Vampire girl and werewolf boy meet - and it is the 'fire and ice' love that both have been looking for. These cartoons bring forth very 'human' elements of any relationship (she IS cold as ice and he IS sweaty and hot after running with the pack all night) and it is this perspective that many will find in their own 'fanged' relationships - nice read for a couple into 'horridy' books and movies.

GAHHHHH!!! This is the cutest thing I’ve ever read. This is a weird little cupcake. If you like the aesthetic of Sweeney Todd but make it a new adult rom com.

It is so short. I read it in the bath and had to get out to get another book cause even though I was taking my time soaking up each page, it only took 9 minutes to read. Perfect for a Readathon.

There is not a single page or word or panel that’s unnecessary. A lot of the pages are just one simple line art of the character but it tells a novella about them.

I wish this author would come out with a whole line of these. A big list of other couples and characters. I want this to be a Talia Hibbert situation. Basically, GIVE ME MORE!

This is definitely going on my favorites list. It was too cute! I mean seriously, it was absolutely adorable--precious even. If it was physically possible, I would have little red hearts floating above my head right now. All because a vamp and a wolf fell in love. God, I am a sap; hopeless romantic is an understatement really. It was also hilarious though! I laughed on practically every other page. The black and white art is done simply, but effectively; it matched the tone of the story perfectly. As an added bonus, I also loved the texture and color of the cover, as well as the black paint on the edges of the pages. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves vampires, werewolves, the supernatural, or quirky romance.

As a dramatic vintage victorian dress girlie with a golden retriever flannel wearing boyfriend this felt like reading about my own relationship. And it was SO funny, I laughed out loud so many times
