Even though her one-shot Koe no Katachi won critical acclaim, it took a longsome law suit to get a magazine to publish it because of its socio-critical theme. Eventually, it was featured in the February edition of Bessatsu Shounen Magazin, where it placed first, and later in the 12th edition of the 2013 Weekly Shounen Magazine.

She has also collaborated with UBUKATA Tow for the manga adaption of his novel Mardock Scramble.

Not a very conclusive conclusion, but I guess that's kind of the point? Fushi has proved himself stronger than the knockers a second time, but now there's no pretending that they won't be back again. Fushi offers to befriend the Izumi-knocker the next time he is reborn, and the dad-knocker explicitly says he and Fushi will meet again. And Left Hand surely isn't going to give up before he gets to inhabit Fushi's body.

The battle itself was great. The parallel structure where events in the school and sewer battles mirror each other reinforces the point that Fushi isn't alone even when physically separated from his comrades, they're fighting the same battle physically and spiritually. On a practical level it shows just how much farther Fushi has come since Renril, aiding Tonari and the others while also fighting his own battle. Despite their superhuman abilities, he really wasn't in danger from the knockers at any point, exemplified by the moment when the dad-knocker is shooting him in the back of the head repeatedly and Fushi just ignores him.

On an object level, the battle is extremely kinetic and full of creative moments like Left Hand spying an attack from the reflection of a drop of water, or Fushi capturing his fingers inside a transforming tree.

And of course, Fushi using Kahaku's form. This is the first time Fushi has taken the form of any of the Hayase line, and goodness was it satisfying. Fushi calling Kahaku his comrade, and using him as his trump card against Left Hand, Kahaku would surely be proud.

But since Fushi no longer wants to destroy the knockers, but understand how they think and what they want, he still feels he's failed. Just as it seems like a breakthrough could be made with Fushi hosting Left Hand, dad-knocker breaks up the party and gives up. But progress has been made. The Izumi-knocker surely could have been befriended, and even the dad-knocker seemed moved by Fushi's questions about the nature of paradise. Further, the parallels between Fushi's nature and that of the knockers are becoming ever more explicit. Their regenerative abilities are now like his, the visual parallel of Fushi creating flowers and flower-knockers attacking the school, Left Hand remarking that neither he nor Fushi are human. It strikes me now that the knockers could actually be the solution to one of Fushi's deepest problem. If he can make a bridge between them and humanity, maybe he can find a way to "remain human" even as he assumes his ultimate purpose.

Interpersonally, this arc seems to be coming to a close. Mizuha and her family are brought back to life and she is reunited with Hanna, Fushi's friends know about the knockers, Satoru has ended his non-interventionist policy, and several normal people have been roped in. Even the Guardians got to join in on the big celebratory dinner. The only thing really left is for Yuki to give up on Mizuha, maybe? Some kind of conversation between Fushi and Mizuha's grandpa? Calling Gugu to tell him what a crazy day they had? You could probably give Mizuha a more indepth redemption/learning moment but I think everybody's content to just move on at this point.

Finally there's some action, but the buildup was way too long and convoluted, plus the action is nowhere near as exciting as the previous arcs. There are just so many uninteresting new characters, why not just stick with the old squad and introduce 2-3 more, it didn't have to be 10...

I'm unfortunately really disappointed with the direction that this story is taking. I loved the series so much at the start, but it has steadily gone downhill, especially since the jump to the modern day. I'm also finding it much harder to follow what is happening in the later volumes. I think this is to do with the sheer number of characters that there are now and particularly that Fushi can become. It makes it hard to follow the fighting scenes when the characters can change shape all the time.

I think maybe this volume would be better on a reread, when you would know the characters even better. I think my enjoyment has also been affected by the length of time between me reading the volumes as I'm having a hard time remembering all the strands of the story; who's on which side and what the knockers are up to.

I will still continue with the series as I am committed to it and I want to see how it plays out.

I did not understand much. The fighting is chaotic. Is Mizuha a ghost or alive? Boh! During the fight, Fushi keeps changing his appearance, which confuses me. Out of the blue, the knockers retreat to meet or clash in another era. I'm afraid the author doesn't know how to develop the plot anymore and keeps creating twists and turns. I think it is a good idea that she finishes as soon as possible, otherwise I should give up reading the sequel.

This series is getting worse.
This volume felt like a rushed mess that left me confused.
