I really wanted to love this because the premise sounded amazing. There was nothing really wrong with this book, just there wasn't enough tension to keep my attention. Nothing of note happened and I found myself starting to skim at 20% all the way to the end.

The dialogue was super stilted. I think the author was trying to convey information via dialogue, but it meant that the dialogue was info-dumpy and unnatural and clunky.

Also the resolution between Jace and his family was super, SUPER rushed, and considering that his situation with them is what causes his financial troubles that lead to him seeking out the lost treasure, that resolution should've had more page time. It should've been on the page instead of in a quick summary in the epilogue.

Overall, not a terrible book, just not overly satisfying either.

2.5 stars rounded up.

Dreams do come true, at least in the fabricated world Morgan Mason creates in Buried Love, the first in the Treasure Trove series. It’s inspiring when good people in a tough situation catch a break that lightens their burdens and doesn’t intrinsically change the core of who they are.

Jace is doing his best as the older and responsible sibling, working multiple jobs to support himself while carrying the load for his injured father and selfish sister. When he stumbles upon a recently published article “Fifteen hidden treasures in the US?” he and his best friend, Hayden, fantasize about finding a lost treasure to solve their financial difficulties.

It’s the relatively local stagecoach robbery that took place in the 1800s, over a hundred and fifty years ago, that captures their attention. Deciding to minimally add adventure to their lives, they meet around their work schedules and dive into a bit of research. What can it hurt? Chances are they will never find anything, they could win the lottery before finding treasure, but the distraction from their daily routine will be good for them.

Colton spends his summer weekends at the Oneida County Pioneer Museum. Absolutely nothing ever happens while he is there, so when the phone actually rings it takes a moment to realize what it is. This one phone call from Jace catapults an adventure. Jace, Hayden, Colt, and his grandfather, Ralph Buckly, dive into the Overland Stage Line robbery by the Picket Corral gang where they made off with lots of gold that was never recovered.

Excitement builds as the quartet research the history behind the robbery and plan their strategy to locate the millions in missing gold. There are existing bonds and special relationships between Jace and Hayden and Colt and grandpa Ralph but, along the way a found family is built and lasting friendships are curated, while unexpected love blossoms between Jace and Colt. A love that initially looks like it is doomed to fail given distance and their availability, but also filled with touching moments and sweet banter – “stud and sugar lips” – just loved it.

The melding of the treasure hunt with the friendships and love are a seamless composition as the story flows effortlessly. Revelations along the way reveal what family is supposed to be and touching choices and love correct past traps that many have fallen into. The ending/epilogue is perfectly written, sending an inspirational message and solidifying a happy future.

Buried Love is the first installment in what I expect to be several the Treasure Trove series takes us on. If each yields the same character and world building, we are in for more intriguing treasure hunts, romance, and secondary characters just as enthralling as those that are front and center.

I loved this book. Very entertaining and heartwarming. What if all your dreams could come true? Jace doesn't have the best of lives. He is struggling to take care of his father and sister financially. He works more than one job and lives minimally. All his money goes to his family. he finds an article about buried treasure still undiscovered. A buried treasure would solve all his financial problems. He and his best friend Hayley decide to pursue this idea not matter how far fetched it might seem. There is one treasure from a robbed stagecoach that is fairly close. They go to a museum that holds the history of the area of the robbery where they meet Colt. They present their idea to Colt which leads to gaining new partners in their quest. There is an immediate attraction between Jace and Colt. Join the four as they search for buried gold and maybe some buried love. I highly recommend.

What an unexpected treasure of a book (pun intended). I was drawn to Jace immediately and wanted so much for him to be able to find the treasure and change his life for the better. His friendship with Hayden was special, and I also really loved the relationship between Colt and his grandfather. I feel like that was a definite strength in this book. I love character driven stories and this one was perfect.

However, there was also the adventure/mystery portion. I’m not sure I’ve ever read a story in which a group has searched for buried treasure but I did really enjoy it. The ending and epilogue had me smiling. I cannot wait for the next installment. I would highly recommend this book.

This was my first treasure hunt book! Loved it! The story flowed and kept me engaged, couldn’t pit it down. Jace and Colt were perfect for one another, they have an instant connection and amazing chemistry. I loved that they became friends first, but loved the flirting the most, “stud and sugar lips”. Most of secondary characters were awesome, a few needed a smack down, lol! Overall, a fantastic read. The story flowed nicely and was really well written, highly recommend. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.

Great Read

So I read the third book in this series first but as they are all stand alone united by the treasure hunting theme that didn’t matter. Always having been a westerns fan, I really enjoyed the plot of searching for the loot from an old stagecoach robbery. On top of this the great characters and slow burn romance made the book a true pleasure to read. I will certainly be reading more of this series.

Fun and exciting

A fun, exciting tale of trying to find a lost treasure. I really liked that the author based the story on true events. The characters were engaging and the plot was captivating. I enjoyed the museum element of the story and the descriptions of the treasure hunting.

First, I am picky when it comes to reading stories with treasure hunts in it. No idea why but it has to be something a little extra. This one has it. I love the blending of the story behind the missing treasure with the love story. Jace and Colt have amazing chemistry together and their relationship and treasure hunt is balanced well. Looking forward to the next one.

Fun little read. I love how Jace and Colt came together... A nice "meet cute". Hated that Jace hid so much from Colt about his family and finances, but glad it wasn't drug out. Their adventure for the gold was fun and their love story grew from all their investigating. Was happy that all things were resolved, including the situations with Jace's father and sister. He deserved such happiness.

Loved this opening book in the Treasure Trove series. It has a bit of everything with adventure, friendship, love and of course treasure. Jace and Colt had my heart from the start and I cheered them on all the way but for me the side characters make the story. Buried Love had a great collection of side characters that added depth and love to story. Life and treasure hunting aren’t always easy but if you have family and friends, you can achieve amazing things. Looking forward to reading the rest of this series.
