bought one for everyone in my family and they loved it. They carried it to church and everyone there loved it. I had to order several more for people in church so they could have one too. All the features are great. I would recommend this to anyone that studies their Bible.

Here we have Simon Peter writing all those who have received faith in Christ Jesus.
He starts with a greeting. Then saying we have been given everything we need for a godly life. We have been given the blessed precious Devine nature with which to escape the corrupt evil of this world. All believers are to ever focus on honing their Christlike qualities so as not much to be blind or forget what we have been saved from. To stay ever true and in the end such a one will have great heavenly reward.
Then he goes on to describe the nature of prophecy , though spoken/written by man it is from God who speaks through them.

He then warns of false prophets/teachers and their impending doom. They will surely be punished just as the angels who chose to defy God and are now bound in darkness. He says you will know such people by their nature for “a sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.” They can appear clean for a while but before long their lives will reveal who they truly serve for as it says elsewhere in Scripture “we will know them by their fruits”.

He finishes by talking if the impending coming of the Lord and destruction of our world and universe and the life we’ll have in the new earth. So be ever mindful and watchful so as to be found watching and waiting. So also always be on guard so as not to fall from a secure position down into one of lawlessness.
In the meantime while we await Christ’s return, grow ever more in His ever present grace and love. Because the only reason He delays is that He wishes “for none to perish and for all to come to repentance”.

2 Peter seems so apropos to current times as Peter discusses what will happen closer to end times. People will follow false teachings, sexual immorality will become rampant, and all values will become useless to unbelievers. Believers will be ridiculed and reviled by those outside the church. But for those of us who remain faithful our reward will be eternity.

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
II Peter 1:5‭-‬7
knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
II Peter 1:20‭-‬21
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
II Peter 3:9

Enjoyed this. I'm getting so close to completing the Bible now!

MY BIBLE CHALLENGE:
In January 2015 I set myself the challenge to read the complete Bible within a year. I discovered that was an unrealistic challenge, and decided to pick up my Bible as and when I felt ready to read more of it. Here is a link to all the reviews in my Bible challenge so far:

Second Peter emphasizes practical Christian living and warns against false teachers and the negative influence they can have on moral living. Peter urges his readers to make every effort to grow in the knowledge and practice of the Christian faith. The letter also emphasizes true knowledge of God while facing false teaching, and it encourages readers to maintain Christian virtue in the midst of the world's decadence and depravity.

2 Peter 1:5–8
5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

"2 Peter" is absolutely gorgeous. It's echoing message is that we must wait on the Lord. We cannot allow for our fear and desires to drag us out of God's will.

Absolutely loved this book and HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

Cute verses 🩷
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1:2‬ ‭NIV‬‬
[2] Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

Interesting verses 🥰
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1:3‭-‬4‬ ‭NIV‬‬
[3] His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. [4] Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1:20‭-‬21‬ ‭NIV‬‬
[20] Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. [21] For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭2:1‬,3 ‭NIV‬‬
[1] But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.
[3] In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬
[10] But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.

‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:13‬ ‭NIV‬‬
[13] But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:15‬ ‭NIV‬‬
[15] Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.

Daily things to remember 💁🏾‍♀️
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1:5‭-‬11‬ ‭NIV‬‬
[5] For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; [6] and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; [7] and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. [8] For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. [9] But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. [10] Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, [11] and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:11‭-‬14‬ ‭NIV‬‬
[11] Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives [12] as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. [13] But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. [14] So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.

‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:17‭-‬18‬ ‭NIV‬‬
[17] Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. [18] But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

Verses I know 🧠

‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:8‭-‬9‬ ‭NIV‬‬
[8] But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. [9] The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Pete, under inspiration of the Holy Spirit gives us yet another powerful epistle that has stood, and will continue to stand, the test of time, the vitriol of its critics, and the foolishness of some of its friends. This relates to the fact that, "the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost".

Recognizing the authority of the Word of God is tantamount and can save believers a lot of problems by heeding its instructions. Pete reminds us that not only the Old Testament is to be considered Scripture, but the New as well:

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

The book of Second Peter is the sixty-first book in the Bible, and it is the twenty-second book in the New Testament. The author of this book was the Apostle Peter. This letter was written soon after First Peter and was written to the same group of Jewish and Gentile believers in Asia Minor.

Though it seems strange that Peter would write to the same group of people so soon after the first letter, there was a reason. Heresy was apparently a growing problem in the churches of Asia Minor. Peter repeatedly points to the Word of God as the ultimate standard that Christians should use to test new beliefs.

Spiritual maturity is really stressed in Peter’s second letter, while the first was an encouragement to those who were being persecuted. Knowledge of the Word is key to spiritual maturity and to weeding out heretical doctrines. It is good to know that in our difficulties, we can still be united with our brothers and sisters in the knowledge of the Word of God.

Good News According to 2 Peter

Peter’s passion poured upon
those who heard his final thoughts:
“Jesus came. His life was real!
And He cares for truth. He feels
sad to see folks turn from Him;
He’ll be patient ‘til the end.
But as history has shown,
all will reap what they have sown
if they do not turn towards God.
finding hope in His strong arms.
Mercy waits, but truth will reign;
don’t malign God’s holy name
or the words He spoke. His love
helps us grow. Someday, He’ll come,
judging, saving. He’ll fulfill
all the prophesies until
righteousness at last will rule
in a heaven and earth made new.”

A lot hit me in this little book. It’s easy to read into confluences of spiritual desires and attainments. Often, for me, anyhow, there is also the element of surprise. I feel a lack, but I am not able to define it. My spirit aches for what I know not. Because I am stubborn this ache becomes habit. I lose the connection with the source. It’s easy for me to attach a magical quality to the thing that names the lack, inflames the desire and cures the ache in one simultaneous moment. Over the ten minute read I lost track of the number of confluences. I was drowning in the water. Refreshed after the fearful panic to learn I could breathe under this, living water.

2 Peter Review

2 Peter was a pretty spectacular book of the Bible. It gave us great advice just like 1 Peter. This book’s advice was mainly about Jesus’s return. I like how this book reminds us about God’s soon coming. It reminds us that Go dean come at any time and surprise us. It reminds and advises us that we should always be good people because it is good and we never know when God is coming. I think this book had just as good or even better advice than 1 Peter. I give 2 Peter 5/5 stars.

This is part of a series where I am reading the Bible in chronological order. I am not doing this for reasons of faith, as I am agnostic, but because of my interest in mythology, ancient literature, and history. I chose the NRSV because I used to be Catholic and still have sympathies there. More importantly, this version seeks a balance between an accurate translation and the literary qualities of the King James Bible. So it seems you get the best of two worlds.

This is much weaker than First Peter. The prose just does not punch and it is more simplistic.

there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 3In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

We read the ESV version.

Here are some phrases that stuck out to me:

1:5, "make every effort"
1:8, "are yours and are increasing"
1:19, "pay attention"
3:14, "be diligent"
3:17, "take care"

Christianity takes work and requires growth.

2:19, "They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved." The world wants you to think that living apart from God is freeing, but living a life is sin is like living in bondage!

“No és que el Senyor retardi el compliment de la promesa, com alguns suposen que fa; més aviat és pacient amb vosaltres, perquè no vol que ningú es perdi, sinó que tothom arribi a la conversió.”

This epistle from St Peter encouraged me in the path that I have begun to take. It is especially clear in this letter that the path of holiness is necessary for us all, regardless of the cross which we each bear.

BOOK OF 2 PETER was the final letter of Peter to those who believe in the existence of God. Apart from the good reminders he wrote, Peter was also saying goodbye just like his co-apostle Paul in 2 TIMOTHY.
