Tag along as #1 New York Times bestselling author KAMI GARCIA (Beautiful Creatures) and artist GABRIEL PICOLO, the creative duo behind the New York Times bestselling TEEN TITANS graphic novel series, as they continue with the action-adventure of a lifetime.
Raven Roth, Garfield Logan, Maxine Navarro, and Damian Wayne are on the run…from Slade Wilson, from H.I.V.E., and from the horrible experiments H.I.V.E. conducted at their expense.
But where will they go? Who can they trust?
Dick Grayson just wants to know what happened to his brother, Damian. Is Damian okay? Does he need help? Why hasn’t he been in contact? And why did his tracking device go silent?
One thing is for sure—they all need answers and there is only one person that might be able to help them defeat H.I.V.E. for good.

Convinced Kami Garcia has never read a Batman comic, but I'm actually here for a Dick/Damian brotherly AU. (RIP Tim Drake's assumable existence in this universe.) I enjoyed that plot in this book. Everything else? Still not a fan, not a surprise. The scenes just feel stitched together, and nothing feels natural. Again, kids deserve well written books too. Also, this series is in desperate need of a homosexual. It's the most heteronormative comic I've read in a while, especially for a teen(?*) audience. (* The cussing indicates this is for teens, but everything else feels middle grade; it's so jarring.) Anyways, I'm still not a fan of this series, but there seems to be a hungry audience for more, so I'll keep giving them a chance; and this one was easily my favorite so far... but that's not saying much. 3/5 stars.
this was just plain bad. it pains me to say that, because i love gabriel picolo's art, but yikes, y'all.
i think, in the previous installments, i was more willing to overlook a weak storyline and poor characterizations because i was just so excited to see two characters (not to mention a relationship) i had loved since i was a child come to fruition.
this book, however, has made it very clear to me that this series is a mess. i know these characters are kind of loosely based on their namesakes, but some of the liberties taken are just egregious. earlier in the series, i was annoyed that gar's parents were still alive, and that raven appears to have been raised on earth instead of by monks in a completely separate dimension (which is, like, a huge part of why she is the way she is).
i have similar qualms with this book. it makes zero sense to me for dick and damian to be in the same age group. actually, i don't understand why damian is here at all. i love the little gremlin, but these characters are so obviously based on the lineup from the 2003 animated series (which is what all of gabriel picolo's fanart was of prior to this series being released, as well), so i can't fathom why they would choose to include damian instead of just having dick.
on top of the poor characterizations, the pacing and plot in this is godawful. this is a filler novel if i ever saw one. nothing happens! no, literally, nothing happens. slade is stalking them the entire time, and there's not even like, a big showdown or anything. it's 200ish pages of teenagers who have the same names and kind of the same powers as the teen titans having shallow conversations to push along a narrative that doesn't even exist.
i'm going to keep reading and collecting this series because, as a titans megafan, it would be weird if i didn't, but wow, this was underwhelming, to say the very least.
That’s right, I’m here 5 seconds after the announcement of this beauty to officially declare it of having a worthy jawline. Will it cut me like Gar’s jawline on the cover of Teen Titans: Beast Boy? Yes, it most certainly will. Forget the plaster, bring a whole bandage.
And it’s double trouble here! Not only do we have Damian but we also have... Tim? Dick? Who even is that on the left? It looks a lot more like Tim than Dick so I’m going to take a wild guess and let’s wait and see if I’m right. Oh, and we will definitely be waiting for this one for a while. IGN suspects it’ll be announced in DC’s January 2022 solicitations, but that’s laughable. There’s been a year between the publication of each of the books and it’s likely we’ll be seeing this one drop in September 2022. So, if you’re as excited as I am (REALLY FRIKKING EXCITED) then you must try your hardest to save some of that excitement for later, muuuch later!
I really enjoy this series. It was nice getting to know Dick and Damian, but I do feel like this was a filler comic in the series. However, I still enjoyed and I'm looking forward to continuing on with it when more are released.
i'm really trying my best to like this series but OMG. why does it feel like nothing happened until the last 25 pages. i don't wanna say it's ass but it kinda is.
also, the relationships moving too fast yall asses just met each other and you already together!? the issue with this series is that it feels so much yet nothing is happening at the same time. it feels like so much time passes and then you find out it's only been a day or two. characters are brought in and then taken away and it feel like we have a hard time understanding them.
also the fashion is trash. max and raven's outfits were MAKING ME MAD like NO please put them in something else other than them quirky graphic tees. i'm just being nitpicky right here but i'm someone who enjoys fashion and it was something that was kinda annoying me while reading. art still beautiful as ever though.
SO GOOD!! Don't love that the romance has come so easily for the characters BUT I will continue to read the series! Love the characters and how the story is unfolding! Can't wait for Starfire's book!!!!
I am enjoying these books a lot more than I thought I would. I wanted to give it 4.5 stars, simply as the pace of the book and the story is a bit slow. However, the pace of the story allows for character development and building the relationship between the characters.
Raven, Garf, Maxine and Damian are on the run from H.I.V.E and Slade. They will need some family help, whether some people want it or not, and to learn to use their powers or check their attitude if they want to stay a step ahead of their pursuers.
Great character development. I make no secret I am not a fan of Damian, but in these books, I do find I understand him a bit more. Not much action in this book but growth towards becoming a team and controlling their powers.
Publication date on Goodreads says 2022, but the last page of Beast Boy Loves Raven says Spring 2023. A year and a half between installments seems long, but hopefully it results in a great story and some beautiful art! So damn excited for Robin and Starfire to make an appearance!
****
Most of it was like a 80’s movie training montage and I loved it! I didn’t notice any of the formatting inconsistencies or oddities in this volume that were present in Beast Boy Loves Raven. The story is still feeling pretty rushed and there wasn’t enough of Robin considering this was his and Damien’s volume, but such is the case when large chunks need to be devoted to the overall plot.
I cannot wait for Spring 2024 though and Starfire’s volume and the whole team comes together!
An okay entry, but mostly just a holding pattern as the characters lie low while Slade searches for them. We get some fun character interaction, and the addition of Dick to the cast creates some interesting friction for Damian, but there's very little in the way of forward momentum until the last few pages. Picolo's art remains stunning, at least.
This is such a fun graphic novel series! I loved the introduction of Robin in this one and seeing Damian and Dick get closer as friends and brothers. Gar and Raven were so cute! It was fun getting to see all the different characters learn more about their powers through training. There’s still a bit of a mystery element surrounding H.I.V.E. and I’m looking forward to seeing more of that unfold in future volumes.
Okay, the book was good. I am a crazy fan of Damian Wayne and Dick Grayson, for some particular reason..
The Artwork
The artwork wasn't the best, but hey, not the worst. I am alright with the art, though it could've been better. The style matches the comic..
Damian and Dick's ages were kind of odd, considering that Dick is a lot older than Damian.. But again, no problems..
The Characters
So, I am a crazy fan of Robin, Cyborg and Starfire in the 'Teen Titans'. Damian was like his normal self in the book, Garfield and Raven's romance came very easily, which I don't think happened in the series? (Do correct me if I'm wrong)
Damian and Max's relationship again came really quickly. Dick seems like himself as well I guess..
Ahh, Raven and Max's mom, a nice person.. Now for the villains, care to guess? Slade ofc, he's just roaming around the country 'searching' for the group..
The Writing
Alright, the plot was good. I think the book was quite short, could've been a little longer. I mean I finished reading in like 5 min.
Overall, a nice book. The best one of the series so far. I am quite hyped for Starfire's book as I am a fan of her as well..
I was really confused most of the time and like is damian robin or is dick?? also i felt like nothing happened!! Raven basically got nowhere with her training and all of them were still super irresponsible and cringy and like they are all in high school! Like they were all super immature. Side note: I HAVE TO WAIT A WHOLE ASS YEAR TO READ STARFIRE??? SHES LITERALLY SO PRETTY ON THE COVER AND IT TAKES PLACE IN LA IM SO SAD I JUST WANT TO READ HER BOOK IT WAS LEFT ON SUCH A CLIFFHANGER :(
I loved these DC comics so much, and the 4th one was probably my favorite. I love the found family trope and I love these kids. It’s really cool getting to see more of their back story too, and how did I not know it was canon that Damian is Batman’s son???
Also, beast boy is my absolute favorite. Him and Raven are so adorable 🫶
When the graphic novel for young teens isn't lore heavy or fit the exact standards of how I think a character should act 💔💔💔💔💔
Things I LOVED: Batman watching his sons fight crime via drone?? Excellent. Believable. Extremely funny. Damian punching a palm tree Wayne Manor looked fantastic! Raven and Gar clothes were fun Dick's abs
Things I HATED: Why did they unyasify Dick Grayson? Where is his sparkle? And why is he Robin in college?? The shirt "not in the mood" Every romantic relationship being rushed AF ( In particular, Damian's relationship... His girlfriend (still don't know her name) and Damian together should be constituted as a war crime. A personal favorite line from their relationship was "Again with the shoulder rubbing" Slade being the equivalent of a Spy Kids villain. Damian not knowing the word Neanderthal
Meow meow meow meow mid-ass book. one star for the source material and minimim rating and then final star for the cute ass art. love that guy that illustrates
There was no plot in this book. Which, honestly, is fine! I love character introspection; I love exploring character relationships-- when the characters and relationships are well-written, that is. As a stand-alone series, totally disconnected from any other DC media or history, these graphic novels are fine. More middle-grade than young-adult, but fine. But if the main draw of this book is meant to be an exploration of the tension between Dick Grayson and Damian, from a general DC perspective, it's awful.
Damian's backstory and character have been watered down from an abrasive assassin unused to his father's moral code (or any sort of moral code in general) to a typically angsty teenager who immediately falls in love with Raven's foster sister.
In fact, the whole series is extremely heteronormative, which I can sometimes ignore, except for the fact that it becomes glaringly obvious why exactly they gave all of Tim Drake's relations and issues with Damian to Dick. Because Dick and Kory, who is meant to have the focus in the next book, are a popular heterosexual couple, and they want to set them up. Every single character in this series is involved in a heterosexual romance, with a burn as slow and steady as a nuclear explosion.
Honestly, I enjoyed Beast Boy and Raven's romance. It was quick, but fun in a middle-grade sort of way. I cannot stand the romance between Damian and Maxine introduced in the last book and this one. And I'm suspecting that I will similarly abhor Dick and Kory's (without even considering Kory's incredibly bland, milquetoast (if you know what I mean) character design).
You know what, I thought Dick was cute. That's it. His hair looks fab. His nice haircut doesn't get this book two stars though.
A series that never disappoints! I have enjoyed every installment so far and this was no different. Found family, a lively and unforgettable cast, strong character development, an action-packed and gripping plot, humour, gorgeous art and vibrant colours – what's not to love?
And the way they introduce an upcoming character or hint at what's to come only makes you even more excited for the next book. I mean... Starfire?!??!! Give it to me NOW!!!
Actual rating 3.5*/5*. The fourth installment in Kami Garcia's Teen Titans Young Adult series is more of the same as the previous issues. I like the part of the story where our heroes are now trying to learn how to control their powers. Plus there is a certain antagonist now in the series, not just a mysterious organisation. However, the story progresses quite slowly and the time in-between the publication of the issues is quite big. I don't think it can keep the interest going for long, especially for older audiences.
This series NEVER disappoints. I'm a huge teen titans fan & can never seem to get enough content of them and this series is amazing. The art is STUNNING and the storyline is fun, fast-paced & action packed. I've read every one as soon as it's released and always put the next one right on my calendar. Can't wait for more!!
