--- "Our prince, you see, was married before. He had a sweet, smiling wife with shiny black hair and I hated her. And then she did the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me: she dropped dead. Clunk, just like that. No one seems to know what caused it. But it didn’t matter because the prince – and my chance to be queen – became available again. "
"The thought of sewing one more stitch makes me want to hurl myself out the window. I can’t. Could the white magic make a dress for me? I’m not sure. And I still need shoes, a coach and horses, a driver, and the other enhancements I planned. Two inches of liquid. No, it’s not enough. I lie on the bed and shut my eyes. It’s no use. I’ll never be anything but an unwanted orphan. I just wanted to be special. "
The Cinderella we know and love.... not so much here.
"Once I have enough white magic, I'll crush her like a beetle beneath my heel. Crunch, crunch, crunch will go her bones."
She isn't a goody goody here... she has hate simmering in her blood for her stepfamily and wants to win the heart of the prince so she can show she is better than they are and to get revenge.
Not all is it seems though, including
It's a short story but much is accomplished here. I loved the twists she did with everything. I was rooting for Cinderella while at the same time hoping she didn't achieve her goal (kept going back and forth). Cinderella embraced her wickedness while still having some vulnerability left in her.
The tie-in with a certain other fairy tale at the end fit nicely and was fun... I guessed once the little girl came into the picture but it didn't ruin anything for me.
The darkness was delicious :
Would recommend, go into it with an open mind :) Some things could have been fleshed out more but this was so much fun for me it didn't bother me too much.
Damn! That was positively twisted! I loved it! This is a short and dark retelling of Cinderella. Cinderella has a black heart. Her fairy godmother (who is also her aunt...long story) and the other fairies sensed darkness in her, so they gave her the gift of white magic, magic that appeared in a magical jar when she did something kind or a good deed. So Cinderella decided to take on all the chores she could voluntarily until eventually her step-family got rid of all their servants and gave her all the chores because they didn't have to pay her. Cinderella put up with it so she could save up on the white magic, which she used to make herself more beautiful. Her ultimate goal was to become Prince Edgar's wife (Queen) in order to punish her step-family.
Basically, the white magic made her soul even blacker. When she went to the ball, Cinderella discovers that there is much more to Edgar than meets the eye. And that is where I will stop. I don't want to spoil you. Give it a read! It's quick and enticing :D And also leads into another dark fairy tale in quite an interesting way!
I was totally on Cinderella's side in the beginning. But then that kind of went out the window for reasons you'll have to read the book to understand.
And it's free on Amazon Kindle! Go get and read it!
Even though I say Cinderella is one of my least favorite fairytales, I tend to read alot of Cinderella retellings. This one was a little different which was refreshing. Even though I didn't see how she was so "sinful" she really didn't seem that evil to me at all. She was a little obsessed with her looks and a little snarky, but that's it. The prince was a jerk though and the evil stepmother lived up to her name. This was a interesting take on the familiar tale that kept me turning the pages. With that said the twist at the end was a nice touch. I'm looking forward to reading Sneaky Snow White
After reading some reviews I don't think i'll be reading Sneaky Snow White
“We all want to feel like the most beautiful woman in the room, to be chosen and loved forever. The Cinderella story gives us hope of our impossible dreams becoming true.”
----Beth M Jones
Anita Valle, an American author, has penned a gripping tale out of one of the famous fairy tales in the world, Cinderella in her new novella, Sinful Cinderella that unfolds Cinderella's story not only with magic, but also with darkness, evil and fear, by depicting a lonesome, clever girl who will stop at nothing to win the heart of the prince.
Synopsis:
And you thought the stepsisters were wicked....
I'm not who they think I am. A docile girl who meekly obeys her stepmother and stepsisters. Some kind of sick angel who cheerfully bears their mistreatment. That's what I WANT them to think. Because then they won't suspect what I'm really up to.
The ball, the prince - it's all part of my plan to come out on top. Stepmother and her demented daughters will pay for every floor I have scoured, every sneer I have borne. They don't know about the white magic, how I use it to enhance myself. They can't see that my heart is black as midnight, rotten as a poisoned apple.
They're about to find out.
Don't you ever expect your fragile little Cinderella in this novella. This Cinderella is filled with meanness towards her step mother and step sisters. She calls them names and wishes bad luck for them. The only reason she does all their chores like a house servant, because she gathers white magic which she then uses to make herself look beautiful and fairest of all in her land. So when Cinderella was asked to make the dresses for her step sisters for the ball, she tried to make them hideous dresses. But what happens next is for you to find out.
The writing style of the author is exceptionally articulate, that is layered with an air of mystery hanging around the story. The story is fast paced and with an predictable ending that Cinderella will find her Prince Charming, the book will keep the readers glued till the end to find out the inevitable as well as shocking climax of this story. The narrative is free-flowing and the world building or rather say the definition of white magic is explained intricately so that the readers can easily comprehend with the elements of fantasy in this story.
All the characters are etched out with dark magic it seems. Their demeanor reflects meanness, selfishness and darkness. Cinderella's loneliness becomes the only reason which turned her into such a bad girl with an evil motive towards everything. There are some characters which will shock the readers to their very core of the heart. The author did a fine job in making her characters look not only interesting but also vile, who are even capable to give nightmares, especially our Cinderella.
In a nutshell, the story is enchanting that will give a sinister feel and no doubt a complete page turner.
Verdict: YA fantasy lovers don't miss this captivating novella about Cinderella-a badass girl!
Courtesy: Thanks to the author, Anita Valle, for providing me with a copy of her novella in return for an honest review.
Fairytales, yes I love them. Dark Fairytales, I wasn't too sure until I read this book.
It's a dark, twisted take on the loving Cinderella story. At first, I didn't think I'd like the story but as it progressed and details were revealed I was stunned.
Cinderella in this isn't some poor orphan who had to do chores because her step-mother thrusted those upon her. In this, she chooses the chores and eventually does all the chores for a very different reason.
A delicious read. I can't wait for the next in the series.
for some reason, i thought this was going to be erotica. probably because of the title. it isn’t erotica; it’s not even a romance. no, this is a fairy tale from the unseelie court, a fairy tale that reflects the true nature of the fae. something dark, something Grimm.
it was great fun and there were some excellent twists, although i was kinda hoping a certain someone would get their comeuppance. maybe in the next one...
When I was browsing for new books to read, I stumbled upon this book. And I was immediately intrigued by its description. Basically, I love fairy tale re-tellings. The reason why I love those stories is because of Once Upon A Time series. Oh, how I love it! OUAT is everything. But still, I'm yet to watch season 4. Poor me!
The reason I started to read this immediately:
1. It's Dark.
2. I want to know how Cinderella will be when she was not being a sweet little innocent girl.
What do I love about this book? IT'S TWISTED, MAN! I was jumping with joy whenever I read something that I did not see coming. This book made me happy and laugh like an Evil Queen. Evil shouldn't make me happy. Damn those who said evil shouldn't be praised. It's totally dark man. #iamnotashamed Where were you Anita until now? And now I will read her every single work.
As the original tale, Cinderella's stepmother and stepsisters are the very same. Torturing her. But Cinderella is not the same. She was patiently waiting to avenge them by being Queen.
"I hate being good."
When Cinderella hates being good, then that's where our dark re-telling arises.
I totally loved the book. The precious book. Another thing I loved about this book is you will never find a GOOD thing in this book. Everyone was twisted in some ways: Cinderella, the charming Prince, and even the fairy godmother, who was a nutter. TRUST ME! *squealing*
It's been a long time since I read a darker novel. To think of that, did I read any novel with the darker theme lately? Maybe I should check those out.
Shall we talk about the Prince? He is more EVIL than Cinderella. Once she came to know the real Prince, she didn't want to marry him. But being the evil prince, he would not agree with it. Would he?
"I feel the aura of comfort coming from the mirror. And I know who I am.
I am the Evil Queen."
The thing I don't like about this book:
1. This is so short. I can understand this being a novella. But I want more. I want to know every detail of this twisted world.
2. I don't have any problems.
I recommend this book to everyone who likes to read fairy tale re-telling and if they don't mind it for being darker.
When I read the synopsis of the next book in this world(not the series), I kind of felt OUAT vibes. For that reason alone, I will read that one.
I can rant about this book for 24*7. You don't want that right? So do yourself a favor and read this at once.
This is Cinderella like you've never seen before. Cunning, ambitious, and hateful.
(Can I just say that Charlize Theron in Huntsman fit Cinderella perfectly in the descriptions here in the book? From the hair to the black dress, down to the spiky crown, it's how I see her in my head!)
Although this book is pretty simple, I'm surprised that I enjoyed it. The writing's okay for me, not too bad but not too good either. I was never into fairytales, much more fairytale retellings. And yet here I am. (I loved the latest Cinderella movie though!)
It was quite short. I think I finished it within 30 minutes. That being said, I wished it was a bit longer. There were certain amusing parts that the author added that I wished she explored more. I also liked that Anita Valle gave the characters a lot more dimension, not the cookie-cutter ones we've known forever.
The PLOT TWISTS. (Yes, plural) I loved those especially the Big One. Albeit I wasn't that surprised because I've already guessed from the foreshadowing. The ending was pretty cool and had definitely set me up for the next book.
Overall, it's creative, fresh, and certainly entertaining to read. Now I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Fairytales, yes I love them. Dark Fairytales, I wasn't too sure until I read this book.

This was an interesting take on Cinderella. She and the Prince were nothing like you would expect. The twist at the end was pretty cool too. It was definitely setting you up for the next book. If you like retellings of fairy tales then you should really check this out.
She's tried to persuade me to call her Mother. Or Countess. Or even Elira, her given name. I persist with Stepmother. A reminder to her and to me of what she truly is: an object to be stepped on.
From page one, Cinderella was a friggin badass bitch! Holy crap!
You're not a true queen unless they're all afraid of you.
I like the idea of having an originally cute, adorable and nice princess become a savage, evil monster. I love it. I liked this book more than I thought I would.
Only the people we care about can hurt us.
Maybe, some people turn bad because they have no one to love them.
More of a 3.5. It was stuck around a 2 or 3 for a majority of the time. The whole point of this was that Cinderella was evil. I understood that. But she was so hateful for really no apparent reason, that it made it harder to enjoy. Towards the end, it's somewhat explained why she is the way she is, but it's so late in the story that you can't really sympathize with her for it. The reason this bumped up into the 3.5 is because Cinderella turns out to be the Evil Queen from Snow White too, and I thought it was a clever way to merge the two fairy tails together.
Although I had my fair share of problems with this book, I overall enjoyed it very much. It was a quick, easy read, and sometimes, I need that in my life. I do wish it was just a little bit longer, but with that ending, I can't complain too much.
Definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series!!
Nice twist on the classic story, with a darker turn. I loved how, even though I knew how things will probably turn out, still I didn't expect what happened. Nicely writen and quick paced, an easy read.
I truly enjoyed the story. Cinderella has a new background and is not as kind as Disney let her on to be. Evil motives and forced niceness might not get her what she desires the most in the end. However, I wasn't a fan of the writing style the author used for the book.
A so sinfully sweet retell of the young cinder girl, I love the author's slight twisty twists, and guuuuurl, I loves dat black dress! Mmmm-hmmm!!! In this tale of Fae, the prince is not so effing charming as she's dreamed him to be. Girls, aint it the truth!!? So, sweet stepmother Elira treats Cinderella like a servant; she a bitch- we all know that. But here, Cinderella stays sweet and does all the hard work, no questions, because for her, the pay off is the reward of white magic. This, she keeps under lock and key, her strange substance that is white magic; a substance that kind of looks like melted pearls. Basically, you earn it with hard work and doing good, and then, you get to spend it in the store of life. A straighter nose, more bluer eyes, more beautiful hair. These expenses, she dreams, will win her one day a better life, away from stepbitches, a life with a prince. All are invited to a ball for the same Prince, but Stepbiatch makes sure that she has no extra time, between serving and sewing dresses. In Sewing Hell, she's up all night; her only companions are two white rats, once gray, before a sip of white magic. Now they are her friends. The night of the wondrous ball, and after an exhausting evening putting in pumpkins, she sees them all off. No time for her dress, she passes out. After a dream of her father, she resolutely takes her decanter of white magic and starts with a few spoonfuls, said over a pumpkin; a magnificently liveried carriage. Her two rats, two lovely horses. A mouse makes the driver. And there is no more white magic left. No dress. Remembering her father telling her, bidding her to call on her fairy godmother, her "Godnutter'; she is her mom's sister and the one who had given her the enchanted decanter. Poof! A lovely shimmering black dress with no equal, but a time limit... Arriving a little late at the ball, she encounters a stepsister who is not as bad as before, and a run in with a bratty tiara nabbing urchin sets her in front of the Prince, the father of the child. Entranced and enchanted, she dances with him, and walks with him outside. His tone quickly starts outlining a business slash mistress proposal, where he says just what is expected of her and brooks no questions. Not so happily ever anything. He immediately steers her 'to a room'; she promptly kicks him, and he punches her in the face. To be wed to him is just a courtesy, he explains, and if she proves unuseful as his last wife did, she can always die like she did. She fights; she runs free from this monster and falls down the castle stairs, losing her shoe. Traumatized, she tearfully tells her stepcow what has befallen her, needing help and shelter. By the next week, the news of the Prince crazily scouring the country for her, armed with her crystal slipper, has reached them. Stepdung promptly turns her in for the chance at being part of a royal family. Her stepsister beans Cinderella over the head with a frying pan and ties her to the bed. The Prince shows up to claim his prize; fighting ensues, the slipper is broken. Her stepslug starts to insult her mother and father, and raging, Cinderella stabs her to death with the heel of the broken slipper. Utterly defeated and coerced, she is now bundled off to the palace, where she now takes up the mantle of stepmotherhood to the young daughter. All of her white magic earned beauty curdled in her gullet as she raises her charge, growing more angry and evil and cruel daily, just as her own stepmom was, the more older the young girl growing into womanhood becomes. She becomes more and more jealous of her daughter, Snow White, as time goes on; and I think we all know how THAT one plays out!! I love this retell, unexpected and interesting, and the story continues to play out in Book 2. I gotta read them all, this story was just so good! I hope you liked my review; I received the book in exchange for an honest review.
It seemed like a 3.5, the story was entertaining but there just wasn't any substance. However, sometimes all we need is a little entertainment! So I decided to settle at four stars.
The story was entertaining, and clever. It was interesting going through the motions already knowing the story, and wondering what the author was going to twist about the big scenes. I generally wasn't disappointed with the outcome. Overall, it was really fun to listen to! Not something to nurture too much deep thinking, but perfect for long plane rides and the holidays.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS? Definitely. Definitely. Definitely. No, that wasn't a glitch - you should really give it a shot!
This was a funny, quick read. Not something spectacular but I enjoyed it. I liked this dark and twisted concept of retelling of Cinderella's story and how evil she was.
Also the ending was pretty cool. Looking forward to read the next book.
