Funny, Sweet, Steamy

4.5 stars - In roughly twelve hours, these two go from strangers to knowing it's forever. I love this funny, sweet and steamy - oh boy, is it steamy! - novella. The secondary characters that are Sophia's parents and gran add more depth and humor to the story. Jackson is absolutely swoon worthy!

I should also mention that I liked the brief overlap with a prior multi-author series with the reference to the Kellys and Cillian.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

UPDATED 12/2022:
According to Amazon, I read this when it first released in 2020. Some parts felt familiar, but part of that is me remembering other characters and places from the multi-author series, I think. Either way, I've reviewed it again. Here you go.

Christmas Ambrosia

Completely over-the-top Instalove that's also incredibly sweet and very steamy. 🔥🔥🔥 Jackson and Sophia are cute. Every woman deserves a bit of Jackson in her man!

She stood out like a flower that had managed to grow in between the cracks of the pavement. Exotic and utterly voluptuous. I knew instantly I had to have her.
-- Jackson Lee

I liked the characters a lot, including Sophia's family. They add A LOT of color.

I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.

Sophia was looking forward to visiting home when a snow storm plunges all her plans in to the deep freeze, she is looking at a lonely festive period and not the one that she was expecting. With no real food she ventures out and finds herself in a seedy diner alone when she is joined by a man that can only be described as her dream come true. But when her insecurities raise their voices will she turn her back on her perfect Christmas gift or unwrap what is meant to be hers.

Jackson is stuck in Boston after a snow storm grounds all travel plans so deciding to get out of his apartment he ventures out on to the street. Its when he passes a down trodden and decidedly dated diner that he catches sight of Sophia, that was all its tool for him to realise that this was meant to be and he will pull out all the stops to claim his most precious Christmas gift but will he get what he wants this year for Christmas or is this forever?

This was an adorable read that I loved from the start to the finish if you are looking for a book that has all the fuzzy feels and lets you believe in the magic of Christmas then this is not one to let you pass by. 4* read.

This might sound really stupid of me, but I really thought the acronym BBW stood for big black women, and I was hyped bc it would’ve been my first book with one as a lead. It’s no secret the genre I like to read doesn’t really cater to BIPOC as the main character ... ever. Less than 1%. 😕

Moving on, it stands for big beautiful women.
This had insta love written all over it.
I am on the fence when it comes to insta-love. I don’t like it in short books where it’s thrust into the readers face in a tell tell tell fashion within a few hours moving between extremes.
I *do* like it when it spans the entire book over a week, and the immediate impression is heavy attraction/possessiveness/fairly fast falling in love.

This was the former.

1. There was this one really cringeworthy moment where she took off her granny underwear in his bathroom. Imagine being bare under jeans uncomfy. And then she hit his bathroom cabinet, and all his crap fell out. He came in and her ugly underwear was still in her hands.

“Nothing?” As the fabric disappears from sight, I grin, realizing what she’s hiding. “Why, Sophia,” I begin, closing the distance between us and pulling her forward till her hips are flush against mine. She gasps and clutches my shoulders to steady herself, her doe eyes looking up at me. “Are those your panties in your pocket?”

Embarazzzingggg. It became foreplay. 😬😫

2. Then he gives her this old beaten used book of his as a present wrapped in a whole ass ribbon like he didn’t just meet her an hour ago. Lool, how? Who did you plan to give it to before hand since it was all ready and wrapped 😶🤔

Maybe I’m just being a bit of a b*tch

3. Then we were told she was a virgin to the max. But this one doesn’t even masturbate. Sis, no. At least if she was a woman of faith, I’d understand but no, author just throws this plot device in. Heroine was desperateeeee for the D!

Something inside me builds and grows tighter and tighter. “Something is happening. Oh god!” 😐😑

Perfect Xmas novella with some steam.

Sophia is sad that her Xmas plans are kinda ruined thanks to a snow storm so shes not feeling the Xmas spirt along with no food for the hoildays.
Down in the dumps she meets Jackson at a diner and hes already smitten and wanting to turn her frown upside down. They bond over family and pie. And him already informing her he wants more and for her to spend Xmas with him.

Sophia has few well insecurities because she's a bigger girl and she is new to this. She even was embarrassed that she wore comfy undies and thinks Jackson wouldn't even want her. I swear that undie scene made me laugh. But Jackson is a alpha man and I loved how he handled everything.

No ow/om drama, no cheating, sexy times, virgin gal and no manwhore

WOW!! Fab*u*lous Absolutely love this one!! I couldn't put this one down. This was a nice quick, short read.

Jackson and Sophia met during a bad snowstorm in Boston. Sophia can't go home she doesn't have any food in her home so she heads to a diner. Jackson spots Sophia from the window and goes into the diner to talk to her. Jackson suggest they head to a bar down the street. They order some food and drink a little getting to know one another. When they go to leave Jackson wants to help Sophia get home but she lives a few blocks away, he tells her to come home with him since he lives close by. Jackson tells Sophia nothing will happen unless she wants it to. Jackson tells her he wants her but he'll wait until she is ready. When they get to Jackson's penthouse he gets a fire started, they he kisses Sophia. He finds out it's her first kiss and he tells her he wants to be her first of everything. Sophia tells Jackson she wants him too, she's never felt a connection to another person like she does with him. Jackson suggest they watch a movie to ease her tension, but Sophia takes it as him not wanting her. Jackson tells her he feels a tense connection to her and doesn't want to rush her. Jackson lets Sophia know he wants to wait to unwrap her on Christmas morning with is the next day. Sophia excuses herself to use the restroom but then she realizes what panties she is wearing so she takes them off. She looks for a place to hide them but when she stands and leans her hip against the counter she slips and starts to fall so she grabs the cabinet which comes off the wall with a loud crash. Jackson comes running to see if she is hurt but she not, he asks her if she was looking through his things but she tells him she wasn't, he tells her he was teasing her that she can look through all his things. Sophia explains to him what happened, then he notices the panties in her hand. Jackson takes her panties from her and puts them in his pocket. They sit on the couch and Jackson gets her some hot cocoa, it's something she always does with her dad on Christmas Eve. Jackson begins to kiss her again, then he begins to touch her. He carries her to his bedroom where he takes her clothes off then makes her come. Sophia wants to touch Jackson and he lets her but he tells her she'll get her turn to pleasures him soon. After he makes her come again, they settle to go to sleep. The next morning Jackson wakes to find Sophia curled up next to him, when he wakes her up she asks him not to make her wait any longer. He pleasures her then they make love. Jackson tells her he's in love with her then Sophia tells him she's in love with him. Jackson heads to the kitchen to make breakfast while Sophia takes a shower. While they are eating breakfast Jackson asks her to marry him, she tells him it's crazy but yes she'll marry him. He tells her he doesn't have a ring and she tells him she doesn't care, but he tells her he wants his ring on her finger so he'll be getting her one. Sophia calls her mom and she figures out she's not in her own apartment. Sophia tells her mom about Jackson then her grandmother, then her dad. When Jackson comes he hears them talking he introduces himself and tells her parents as soon as the weather is all clear they'll be heading to them so he can official met them. Five years later, their first born Jordan helps his sister Eloise or Ellie into Jackson and Sophia bedroom to wake them on Christmas morning. They all head downstairs where their kids unwrap presents. They bought a house closer to Sophia's parents and only go to Boston when necessary. Sophia has made it big with her plus size clothing line, Jackson took a step back from his company and lets his brother run it. Jackson and Sophia whole family comes over for Christmas. Much later in the day Jackson gets to unwrap his Christmas present Sophia. She tells him he has to be patient, Sophia models her new lingerie. Sophia tells him she's pregnant with their third child due in seven months. Jackson kisses Sophia just like he did the first day they met, he's made sure everyday since then is better than the last. With Jackson everyday is a gift for Sophia.

Sugar Kisses (Warming Up to Love, #5) by Megan Wade ⭐⭐⭐½

Hero - Jackson Lee. Owner of Phase, a medical equipment company. Very tall, broad-shouldered, and muscular with dark hair, blue eyes, and a beard.

Heroine - Sophia Clarke. Fashion design intern (wants to design clothing for plus-sized women). Plus-sized and curvy with a heart-shaped face, curly auburn hair, and soft brown eyes.

Overall Thoughts - This was a sweet Christmas romance guaranteed to make you feel warm and fuzzy. I really loved hearing both Jackson’s and Sophia’s stories about their families. Both characters had depth and there was good chemistry between them. I smiled throughout the whole last chapter because Sophia’s family was a hoot!

I’d say the only hiccups were the bathroom scene (it was a little over the top) and him gifting a romance lover a book that’s guaranteed to depress her. I was also a little surprised that the age gap wasn’t even mentioned because it’s considerable if I’m doing my math correctly. Considering her father thought she was too young to have sex at 23 I’m surprised he didn’t have more to say about her suddenly marrying a man closing in on 40. But whatever, the point of this novella wasn’t realism. It’s insta-love to the max and perfect for the holiday season.

Also, this was my first book by this author and I got curious, wondering if she's like some others and mentions past characters in current books. Turns out the pub they went to as well as the Cillian mentioned there are from the second Kelly Brothers book, Cillian. So that's neat...I like callbacks to previous books. There may have been more references, but since I'm not well-versed in her backlist, I couldn't say. Cillian was an easy enough find, though, because his name's in the title. LOL

Hit the soulmate jackpot
This instalove, romance-at-Christmas story is about Sophia and Jackson. Sophia is meant to be spending Christmas with her family in her hometown of Oakwood Falls – but she’s snowed in unable to leave, stuck in Boston. As she walks the streets looking for somewhere to eat, she spots and enters Eddie’s diner. It’s not quite what she was hoping for, but beggars can’t be choosers.
A gorgeous stranger walks into the diner and asks to join her at her table. He tells her he got stood up, so now they’re alone together. They both agree that Christmas should not be spent totally alone. He further strikes up a conversation that has her considering all sorts of possibilities – or at least fantasising about them! When he suggests they go to the local Irish pub (sounds perfect to me), she hesitantly agrees, though mentions she doesn’t even know his name. He retorts with he doesn’t know hers either. As they leave, they introduce themselves to each other, and go to feed their tummies and curiosities together.
As quoted in the book, they “could literally be the plot of a Hallmark Christmas movie!” It was sweet and steamy and lots of festive fun! They certainly saved the best presents for Christmas morning! I give this book four and a half snowed-in stars.

Such a sweet holiday snowed in trope read! As a novella, Megan Wade as always knocks it straight out of the park with HEA, instalove, first love, and all sorts of melting themes that make your heart sing! As a curvy girl myself, at times I do find worries about my body image and its impact on my relationships. But Megan always writes the perfect books to put more positive affirmations from her MMC’s into my head that I hold close. My favorite quote from the book is as follows:

“She stood out like a flower that had managed to grow in between the cracks of the pavement. Exotic and utterly voluptuous.  I knew instantly I had to have her.”

Spice rating 4/5: I wanted that rug scene though; sorry I’m a bit greedy! But in all seriousness, the buildup was amazing and so were the spice scenes, with the FMC being a first timer, it showed the care and love put into the characters and plot!

(Note- I am a bit wary on the title of this book and the cover art as it doesn’t really fit with the theme of this book in my minds eye. I see the MMC as a business man/one who also works with his hand quite a bit- the cover of this book gives me biker vibes. Also never saw the connection between the “nutcracker” reference if I’m being honest. That is the only reason I bumped this down from 5 stars to 4- I would give 4.5 if it lets me!)

Sophia, is stuck home for the holidays alone, no planes leaving, where she had planned to spend with her family. Rather then stay cooped up, in apart Xmas Eve, decides to go have a meal at a diner, even though, was tons of snow out already and more on the way. Finds a dump of a diner, orders, but isnt much of a good dinner, and waitress, could careless, doesnt get her hot chocolate, like she ordered. When she gets her order, a complete stranger arrives, sits down next to her. Start talking name is Riley, tall handsome guy, he knows a better place to eat at. while there they have a easy chat. Both attracted to each other. Instant attraction, develops into more. Weather gets worse as leaving 2nd diner. it is to far for her to walk home, and no ubers available. he takes her to his place-penthouse. They both realize while at penthouse, they love each other. Sophia is just Riley's type. Take things slow, Riley realizes, Sophia is a innocent. A Xmas present for both, Riley asks her to ,marry him, on Xmas Day. Sophia, a aspiring designer for plus sized women. She becomes successful, Riley eases his business hours, to help with kids. Such loving, caring, moved back to her parents hometown. Such a warm, romance on holidays.

The multi-author Warming Up to Love series has been wonderful so far, and Megan Wade's Sugar Kisses is my favourite yet. This story of love at first sight on Christmas Eve is absolutely magical. Sugary sweet, spicy hot, and engaging characters you will fall in love with from their meet-cute. Sophia and Jackson both end up alone on Christmas Eve thanks to a snow storm that rages through Boston. Finding one another at a seedy diner, it is love at first sight. From the moment they meet, Jackson is swoon-worthy, knowing instantly that the the young, curvy beauty is meant to be his and pulling out all the stops to show her. He is tender and considerate when he discovers just how innocent she is, and is determined to make Christmas the kind most women can only dream of. Sophia is sassy and sweet and deserves nothing less than Jackson has to offer. Together, they are Christmas magic! (And an honourable mention to Gran Ellie for some hysterical comic relief!)

Thank you, Megan Wade, for this early Christmas present!

Instant love done right in Christmas! This is about Sophia and Jackson. It starts off with Sophia hating that the snowstorm has caused all flights to be grounded in which she is not able to go home for Christmas. She is single and with no real food in her apartment, she decides that she does not want to be all alone during Christmas eve, so she ventures out to find food and company. Well, she ends up in a run-down diner and the special is mac and glob…. She is not hungry anymore until Jackson shows up and he then takes her for their first date!

Christmas becomes their favorite holiday from that day forward as their instant love becomes a forever moment. Grandma Eloise and her mother are too funny, but the best part is that Sophia becomes a designer for plus size women, like her, and Jackson already achieved his profession. This is an older man/younger woman but one that you will fall in love with!

Loved this story between Jackson and Sophia. Jackson's sister cuts out on him Christmas Eve so he goes out to grab a bite to eat. Sophia can't catch a flight home from Boston due to the weather so she heads out for a bite to eat. No one wants to be alone Christmas Eve. Jackson happens to see Sophia in a diner from hell and goes in to introduce himself. He talks her into leaving the diner and going to dinner with him at a bar he knows. This is the start of a fast and sexy over the top love story who find two people looking at each other and falling in love. It was beautifully written, has romance and was hilarious in parts. Loved the chemistry between these two. Great sexy read and loved the characters. Wanted to be there with them, not in bed but in the diner and the bar they ended up going to. Just a fun sexy read.

Not for me

Its a hirt, OTT , cutesy, insta-luv story.
Spoilers.

But I really don't like that with a plus sized 23 year old virgin.
It's just so poor little fat girl finally found a man. First kiss, protected sex, and a marriage proposal.
I'm sure it has happened. But geez, settling for your first kiss? First impromptu date for all I know. Hot millionaire, whatever.
It just icks me out.
Not all plus sized people are that pro plus size, inexperienced or easy.
I'm confused why her pretty underwear were packed away for a trip to see her family. How long is this trip? what's up with the fam, why do they get lace and silk? How few pairs of undergarments does she have? And what happened with her clothing line that was mentioned repeatedly in the first few chapters?
Petty, I know.
I really do try to avoid the virgin trope if possible, sometimes I just miss the warnings.

Sophia isn’t able to go home for Christmas because of a snow storm, needing to eat she heads out to find an open restaurant. She sees a diner and tries her luck, the food is very non appetizing and she’s feeling really glum until a tall gorgeous stranger comes in and convinces her to join him at Kelly’s pub for some real good food. Jackson was ditched by his sister and is at lose ends, until he sees Sophia in the window of a diner. The two enjoy a good meal and mild flirtation which leads to Sophia going to Jackson’s house after to wait out the storm. Their mutual attraction leads to some sexy times, and Christmas morning sex. I love yous are said and Jackson knowing that she’s his “one”, proposes. Later that day Sophia talks to her family and introduces Jackson to them. Epilogue five years later with kids and Sophia surprising Jackson with news of another baby on the way.

Finding love on Christmas Eve

Sugar Kisses by Megan Wade is the fifth book in the multi-author Warming Up to Love series. This is a Christmas themed insta-love romance story about Sophia and Jackson. Let's just say that this easy to read novella is sprinkled with elf dust that results in a sweet and wonderfully heartwarming story about two lonely people who end up meeting in Christmas Eve and the magic of the season ensues to bring them together.

I quite enjoyed this nicely crafted holiday story. I very much felt for Sophia finding herself stuck spending Christmas all on her own, especially with what is happening in 2020. But she decides to do something about it and that is when she meets Jackson. For him it is love at first sight and no one is going to tell him otherwise. My only issue is the number of proofreading errors, which was distracting. But otherwise this is another deliciously sweet and sinful story by Megan Wade.

When a bad storm leaves Sophia stranded with no way back to her hometown for the holidays she gets a little sad. She ends up at a diner ordering something to eat when a sexy stranger comes in and sits with her. Jackson is drawn to Sohia when he first sees her and wants to cheer her up so he takes her to a pub for something to eat. However once they have ate the storm has gotten worse and Sophia can't walk back to her apartment so Jackson invites her to stay with him. Will they find what they both have been wanting for the holiday?

This is an amazing story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Sophie is feeling sad on Christmas Eve because she can't make it home. She goes out to each and finds a diner that is something else. Jackson sees her and comes inside to talk to her. It is love a first sight for them. Jackson takes her for dinner at a much better place, then home to his place. Sophie spends the night and the next day just gets better. They share their love and Jackson proposes which Sophie accepts. All of Sophie's dreams come true and Jackson moves his family to Oakwood Falls near her family. Jackson still manages his company remotely and is very supportive of Sophie and his family. I couldn't put this book down once I started it.

Jackson and Sophia are both alone and a bit bummed on Christmas Eve. They meet is a run-down diner, but decide the bar down the street has much better food. With a wild snowstorm in play, they head to the penthouse that Jackson has just down the street. The romance skyrockets as she lets him know it was her first kiss. From there on it is like a dream... a really, really good one. It happens fast, but the details and intense emotions make it so real and so right, that you do not mind. The delight in her crazy family and the feelings that they would all be friends to you. The ending was perfect and keeps getting better.

Sophia and Jackson will have you swooning and then fanning yourself! These two were prefect for each other. Sophia is shy yet sassy when she is comfortable. Jackson is all alpha and when he saw Sophia, he knew that he found his forever. There chance meeting on Christmas Eve will change there lives forever! I loved this whole book. There were moments that had me laughing so hard (bathroom) and other times swoon (Jackson telling Sophia how it is). I would highly recommend this book and Ms. Megan as a truly gifted author!

I found this book captivating from the first chapter. Stuck alone on Christmas, Sophia meets a nice guy in a greasy diner. He invites her to his place out of the snow.
This is the point in the book/movie where I'm yelling, "don't go dummy, you're asking to get sliced!!".
Wrong genre, LOL. This is a fun sweet insta love story. The connection between Jackson and Sophia is hot.
Loved Sophia's family, especially Grandma Ellie.
If you're looking for a little heat to spice up your Christmas, add this book to your collection.

Sophia gets snowed into the city at Christmas and sets out to do something about her not so great holiday when Jackson rescues her. Jackson also having a major change of plans for his holiday is immediately drawn to the beautiful woman and knows that this is not someone he can walk away from. As the story progresses the steam starts to rise between these two until it is a full blown boil. The insecurities is Sophia and the strong reassuring from Jackson are both sweet and a have a possessive alpha vibe to them. The addition of Christmas cheer only adds to the overall story.

Sugar Kisses is a delightful InstaLove Holiday Romance read! Featuring a sexy, alpha, bearded hero who falls head over heels in love with his curvaceous, innocent flower, at first sight. From the moment Jackson see’s the beautiful redhead dining alone on Christmas Eve he is a goner. For her part, Sophie is instantly charmed by the sexy stranger who makes her feel alive. Watching Jackson and Sophie celebrate the happiest (and naughtiest) Christmas of their lives made this a read in one sitting book. TBR and Enjoy!

Sophia is having a lonely dinner at the diner when the bad weather grounded the planes and had forced her to stay home for Christmas. When a sexy voice interrupts her lonely contemplation, Sophia is delighted to meet the handsome Jackson. He invites her to a far better dinner at a local bar. And the more they talk and get to know each other, they begin to realize that Christmas truly can be a time for miracles. Will there be a future together and a HEA waiting for them?

This was a cute story with laughter and love. Grab your copy and share their holiday festivities with them as they wonder if each of them is the gift the other has been longing for.

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. This story is about how Jackson and Sophia meet on Christmas Eve and have great chemistry together. She is stranded by the storm for the holiday. He ended up alone after having plans. When they go to the diner to eat, they had no idea that their lives were fixing to completely change. This story was sweet with some steam between Sophia and Jackson. They cannot deny the attraction and find that Christmas does bring the best presents. I enjoyed their story

Sophia couldn't get on a plane for home because all flights are grounded. Since she had no food in her apartment, she walks around until she finds an open diner on Christmas Eve. While there, Jackson walks in and sits down in the booth across from her. Jackson talks Sophia into going to a different restaurant for food. When they leave the restaurant, it is colder and too far for Sophia to walk home. They go go Jackson's place. This is a sweet story. Jackson sees Sophia sitting in the diner and decides to make Sophia his. The characters are relatable. The family aspect is good.
