Tucker Wright’s Clues for Life:

What’s a 4-letter word for an utterly oblivious, totally commitment-phobic, heartbreakingly gorgeous man with a pet pig named Bernadette?

That’d be D-U-N-N, as in Dunn Johnson, my very best pal and fishing buddy since I moved to Licking Thicket.

What’s a 6-letter word for a nerdy, crossword-loving town doctor who’s doomed to be hopelessly, thoroughly, irrevocably, in love with that straight best friend for the rest of his born days?

That’s T-U-C-K-E-R, as in me.

But when I agree to let Dunn be my 24/7 dating coach, and he decides to get our whole nosy town in on the act, there’s only one 5-letter word to describe the pair of us.

F-O-O-L-S.

Continuing in much the same fashion as the first two books in this series, this story started out really strong, with hilariously-ridiculous situations that I found to be extremely funny.

I absolutely adored both Dunn and Tucker right from the beginning, with the pair being cluelessly perfect for one another, but Dunn bound and determined to set up Tucker on one truly bad date after another.

[My interpretation of Dunn...]

However, when Dunn saw Tucker seemingly start to connect with another guy, OMG, Jealous Dunn was super-entertaining to experience.

I loved how both guys thought they were being so covert, when in reality, the whole town knew that the belonged together, with Dunn's mother completely taking the cake on seeing her son's soulmate from miles away.
That was enough. I couldn’t sit here and listen to any more of this nonsense. If Tucker wasn’t going to put him in his place, I would. “He can’t,” I said. “I’m coming over to snake his drain.”

The entire coffeehouse went dead silent like someone had turned a giant off switch on the back of the building.

“Finally,” Mama muttered.
The book was working for me 110% on every single level, until fucking Jenn Shipley grabbed the wheel, not helping one damn bit, as the story swerved into oncoming traffic in the form of major insecurities and doubts.

I didn't find that chat change in tone, from light-hearted and fun to more angsty, all that entertaining, which caused me to lose a bit of interest.

Then as the story was wrapping up, I wasn't a huge fan of the "info-dumpy" last bits, which told the reader a whoooooole lot of closing details versus showing them, feeling as though the story was breathlessy racing toward the finish line.

For me to have so thoroughly enjoyed the story before that change-up, it left me slightly annoyed, but I'd still rate the story at around 4 stars and recommend it to fans of the series.

And just as a side note, I would've loved more humor included with Bernadette, Dunn's pet 450 lb. pig that slept every night inside the house, under the dining room table. That felt like a missed opportunity for more comedic gold.

Ugh! Dnf at 75%

Too many assumptions, stupid miscommunication, Jenn happened, meddling etc.

The title says fools, the author was trying too hard to prove Dunn and Tucker were fools that it got annoying. There were some fun moments but got ruined again with all the assumptions.

Tucker! Tucker! Tucker! Ugh! I thought you were the smart one? What the hell happened here.

Dunn, I believe you deserve better.

I had hopes for this one, I loved Dunn and Tucker in book 2. Here, they were trying too hard to give dumb and dumber a run for their money. Ugh!

Annnnnnd!! Anal sex is not everything! It does not define a relationship. UUGGGHHH!!!

What a wasted best friends to lovers opportunity.

Fools is book three in the Licking Thicket series by Lucy Lennox and May Archer. Just when I didn’t think I could love this quirky town any more, I met Dunn and Tucker, and fell even harder. If you want to smile, swoon, sigh, and even giggle, then you NEED to read this book. Oh my heart!

Doctor Tucker Wright is the town doctor in Licking Thicket. He lives above his practice, loves crossword puzzles, loves to eat sweets which he keeps hidden all over the place, and he loves his best friend, Dunn. His very straight best, best friend. He has loved him for years but has long since resigned himself to just being lucky to have him in his life in whatever way he can. But then Dunn took it upon himself to find Tucker a man. How could anyone ever measure up to his Dunn?

Dunn Johnson is twenty eight years old, owns and runs a very successful dairy farm, has a pet pig named Bernadette, and spends almost every free moment with his very best friend, Tucker. They are inseparable. Know everything about each other. Dunn just wants his friend to be happy so he has taken it upon himself to find him his “one!” Only the idea of Dunn kissing anyone or touching anyone else makes him feel a little bit sick! And lately he’s been having the weirdest thoughts about Tucker. Things a straight man doesn’t think about. Then, in the heat of an argument over another failed date, it happens, the kiss! The best kiss of his life! Maybe he’s not so straight after all!

Nothing is ever private in the town of Licking Thicket. It seems like everyone else knew what was happening between Dunn and Tucker before they did. As they try to privately navigate their new feelings towards each other, the entire town manages to get involved when they feel they are needed!

This book is hilarious, swoony, sweet, sexy as heck, and just wonderful. I smiled so much. I couldn’t love these two together more. The word adorable is all that comes to mind.

We also meet a new character in this book, Tucker’s friend from college, Carter Rogers. I love him and I can’t wait to hear more about him in his own book, Hijacked. Lucy Lennox and May Archer together are pure magic. Thank you both so much for once again adding so much light to my life!

I needed a laugh and the town of Licking Thicket always provides. Always.
I don't even want to spoil it for anyone by quoting my favorite funny parts. It's too good. You need to experience it for yourself. Start with the first book. You will not be sorry.

Okay, so in this one we have a best friends to lovers story between Tucker and Dunn. Tucker is the town doctor and gay. He is hopelessly in love with his straight best friend. Psshhh. That never happens!

Dunn is a dairy farmer and is a completely lovable idiot. He loves Tucker soooooo much, and wants to help him find the perfect guy for him. Which means a series of terrible blind date set-ups. Funny how Dunn keeps picking the worst guys ever for Tuck. Hmmm.

Dunn knows he loves Tucker, but he doesn't think he is gay so he wants everything a committed relationship involves except the sex part. He just needs to find Tuck a guy who can do that part of things and keep Tucker's heart for himself. But, he does notice that Tuck is sexy. I mean, of course he has eyes.

A lot of people have mentioned that both of these guys are idiots, hence the title, but Tucker really isn't. He knows that Dunn loves him as a friend, so he is trying really hard to guard his heart. I think that is smart. As a girl who had a gazillion gay friends (and brother), I have dried more tears over the straight boy that keeps them on the hook and then goes off with a girl so many times that I wish all gay boys would guard their hearts a little better with their straight friends. I also have seen a lot of straight guys who really enjoy the attention they can get from the gay boys so they string them along and flirt a bit all while knowing that they aren't switching teams or becoming a switch hitter. And, that is not only unfair but disrespectful IMO. It is saying that toying with another person's emotions is okay because it's just a guy.
Okay, off my soap box. Just don't flirt unless you mean it.

Unless you're this guy, then flirt some more. I mean, let me know first so I can be there, then flirt away. P.S. I like bread. *wink wink*

So, yeah, there is a lot of angst. But, the funniness of this town outweighs it by a lot. I hope this series goes on forever. Please, Lucy Lennox, get your covid vaccine and take care of your health. I am very invested in your well-being now. If you need anything, maybe cake or something?, please let me know.

This dump's for you! *wink wink again*

~4.5~

This is yet another winner in the light-hearted, supremely enjoyable Licking Thicket series. The title is oh so fitting because both MCs are fools indeed, although Dunn is the biggest fool of the two, as it takes him three YEARS to figure out that he's madly in love with his best friends.

The small-town shenanigans had me laughing my head off, even as I cheered for Dunn and Tucker to finally, FINALLY! seal the deal.

Highlights include:

- A pig named Bernadette who's definitely not a pet (or a cat)
- Secret hiding place where Tuck can hide from his office manager and eat cookies in abandon
- Romantic dinner involving Tuck and Dunn (but not together) and the great tater tot fiasco
- Drunken confessions
- For-their-own-good kidnapping
- Entwinin' wreaths
- Proud Nutters
- Sexy times because Dunn is good at you-know-whatting
- Shocking announcements that aren't shocking at all
- Two smart fools in love

I want more stories set in the Thicket!

I'm exhausted after reading this book. I need a nap or two.

Gustaf's reactions reading this book:
Aww cute
I love Dunn
Cuteee
NO!
DON'T!
NO, NO NO!
*SCREAMING AT MY KINDLE THAT THEY NEED TO GET THEIR SHIT TOGETHER ASAP*
NO...
Please no...
Aww it's cute again.
AWWWWW.

As you can tell this started out great. Dunn and Tucker's story have been building in the previous books. We have gotten clues to what to expect. Did we get that? Yeah. Did I enjoy it? I can't say that I did. Dunn is the lovable, oblivious guy and Tucker is supposed to be the rational one. Yet he was the one that needed to get his head out of his ass. He was the one hurting Dunn. He was the one getting mad at people for calling Dunn stupid, yet he was the one thinking Dunn couldn't make decisions about what he wanted... All the building of the relationship basically happened during the first 50% of the book and then it was a mess of misunderstandings, Dunn and Tucker running in circles around each other not talking while meddlesome towns people were poking on their relationship. There was no time for the reader to be able to catch a breath. Things just happened. And then more things happened. And then more. You get the picture.

What really bothered me though was how

It did however have some extremely sweet moments. Those I loved. The epilogue was beyond cute. And the cover model is stunning.

I'm ready for my nap now.

Too much lickin, too much thicken, and too silly for me right now 🙄

I’m just not in the mood for two fools (because that’s what they really are, even though Tucker it’s supposed to be the smart one). It’s too OTT for me, even though I usually like Lucy Lennox and her special brand of humor.

Surprisingly, it’s not the narration that put me off - Michael Dean did a decent job. Or maybe I just got used to his voice 😅

Anyway. Dnf at around 40%, I just can’t with this book.

2.5-3.0 stars...I am a huge fan of both of these authors and devour everything they write. However, I am not a fan of the BFF to lovers/“straight" BFF finding a man for gay BFF. This type of scenario is frustrating to me because you know where it will eventually end up but often takes too long to get there. Also, once the BFF’s realize they are in love, the story is basically over. An unfortunate case of me not you, this book did not work for me.

4.5 stars!

This was so sweet and cute and fun and hilarious. I think this one is my favorite of the series so far. I just loved Dunn and Tucker together, I loved their chemistry and their story was just overall fun and enjoyable.

I did give .5 stars off because near the end Tucker was frustrating. I understood where he was coming from, and why he was scared, but I don't think he went about it the best way, and he made it needlessly more complicated than it needed to be. Also, their first time was needlessly fade to black? This is two times where a Lennox book has inexplicably made the first time be fade to black and I'm baffled by it, especially when later on the sex wasn't fade to black...so...yeah. Don't get it, don't like it.

But other than that, I loved this.

Dunn was my absolute favorite. He was just so sweet and kind and adorable and oblivious but like in the cutest way possible.

This was a pretty simple story too, but sometimes we all just need some sweet fluff with a simple story with two great MC's who are head over heels in love with each other.

If you read the preview, you know that Dunn gets it in his head that he needs to set Tucker up with a guy, the perfect guy. Except it's 3 months and 11 dates later and they've all been duds...almost like Dunn is deliberately setting Tucker up with terrible guys for Tucker...hm...just maybe ;).

When Tucker's ex, Carter, who is very attractive and is also a doctor, comes back to work in the town over to fill in for another doctor, lets just say that it sure gets Dunn's head out of his ass right quick.

And don't worry, Carter becomes quite likable and a good friend real quick, and Dunn's jealousy became funny and amusing, to us the readers and Carter himself.

In the end, these two work through everything and are able to get their HEA, and it was perfect. I highly recommend this. Such a delightful, fluffy read. Two thumbs up from me!

3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

They weren’t kidding when they titled this book “Fools” because my god were they ever! I’ve been patiently waiting for Dunn and Tucker’s story since I finished “Liars,” and I’m sad to say this one was just okay for me. I still had a good time reading, but there were niggles.

Dunn, dairy farmer, and Tucker, family doctor, grew up in the Thicket and have been best (emphasis on ‘best’) friends for several years in adulthood. Tucker is gay and desperately in love with Dunn who is, by all accounts, straight and in an odd situationship with Jenn. Dunn sets out to find Tucker the perfect man, all the while Tucker is trying to bury his unrequited feelings for his BFF. Needless to say, shenanigans ensue. Look, I know what I’m getting into with Archer and Lennox. They write Hallmark movies with sex which is FINE and honestly what I’m looking for when I pick up these books. This story just felt a little more shallow than usual. As I said at the top, they weren’t kidding naming this book ‘Fools’ because every event and obstacle felt so OTT and unnecessary that I really did think “wow, are the MCs actually this dumb??” I usually don’t have an issue suspending reality when I dive in these stories, but I think the angst was just too weak and ridiculous that it all felt a little too one-note for me.

It was definitely not all negatives. The story was still fun and enjoyable (and sexy!). Tucker and Dunn were great MCs and I thought their chemistry and friendship was showcased well. The book, like the others, was also very funny and I LOL’d several times. I think if you want something fun and low stakes this series is perfect. I enjoy these books when I’m stressed and just want to dive into a reality where everything is good and easy. Is this a literary masterpiece? No. But it’s fun, and sometimes that’s just what you need ☺️

What a hoot! I had a feeling Dunn and Tucker would have one heck of a fall and boy, did they ever!
I love this overbearing suffocating little town.
And every nipshitter in it.
So glad Dunn and Tucker find got out of their own way.
Best friends falling in love (especially when one has been madly in love for years) is one of the best things EVER!
Also...did anyone else want to solve the crosswords puzzle?!? Ha.
I was half tempted to solve each clue as the chapters flew by. :)
Now, is our big city cardiologist going to be next? Hmmmm....

Another Liking Thicket romp ! It's "Entwinin' time!"
The chapter's crossword answers are at the end.
Dr. Tucker Wright, 30, on cover, is lonely and unlucky in love.

His former ex and colleague, Dr. Carter, comes to town to fill in for a Cardiologist, but he's not interested in him.
Dunn Johnson, 28, is a big, muscled,

green-eyed Dairy Farmer, with golden brown hair, is pure goodness and a hard worker.

We begin with a string of disastrous dates that Tucker is being set up for, because Dunn wants Tuck to be happy. Dunn is super slow on the uptake, and it's awhile before he figures out that Tucker wants Dunn.
Hilarious town events, busy-bodies, humor, and confusion reigns. The serious vein of true love is always there.

We know each man is denying their feelings because they don't want to risk their friendship. Dunn is just as clueless and cute as he can be. There's fishing, the Entwinin' and the bet, and of course the big decision.

I love this town of crazies, and love our couple and how they deal with it all.
Both men are sure excited when that first kiss happens, and throws Dunn into a spin !

Terrific writing, sass, snark, hot sexiness and first times for wide-eyed Dunn.
All of us get a cool wrap up.
ENJOY !

This book was so much fun and just so sweet. The best best oblivious friends to lovers story kept me entertained throughout.

I wasn't so sure this would go well for me when it started since Tucker came off as a doormat letting his office manager, his best best friend and other townspeople walk all over him, but I grew to adore the man who is so in love with his "straight" best friend. Dunn just sort of goes through life, content with almost everything and wanting nothing more than to make sure his best best friend Tucker is happy, because Dunn can't be happy and maybe settle down until Tucker finds himself someone to love too. This results in Dunn setting Tucker up on date after date with any gay man he can find until Tucker FINALLY stands up for himself.

As these two stumble towards the relationship everyone else can see they are destined for, they get plenty of "help" from the whole town, as well as a newcomer from Tuck's past. The story is fun, sweet, hot and not without a bit of emotion beneath it all. I absolutely loved the epilogue and look forward to Carter's story.

3 Foolish Stars

Ho humm. Some party of this were good, but the whole premise (BFFs, one straight, one gay) didn’t work for me in this one. Bi for you is usually a fave trope and Lennox has done it well in the past. In the past. Not now. It was all a bit foolish & hard to swallow 😉.

Oh well. It was OK enough & I had already bought the audiobook.

My least favorite in the series. I understand that Dunn was not the sharpest tool in the shed (we were told multiple times) but still, his actions made zero sense. It was a 3 star book until the end which was too OTT for my tastes. The first book remains my favorite.

Another hilarious entry in the Licking Thicket series

These books just make me smile.

They're so amazingly over-the-top while still managing to make me believe there might just be a town that's as totally crazy as this one.

Dunn and Tucker almost beat Diesel and Parrish into first place but I did get just the littlest bit frustrated at Tucker.

I understood where he was coming from, but the guy should have known his best best friend wasn't one to mess around once he'd decided something.

The swoon level is pretty high once they do pull their collective heads out of their behinds, and the interference from the Lickin' folks is as funny as in previous books.

Now I'm intrigued by how on earth Carter's going to end up where his story is leading from the hints and the blurb of his spin-off book!

I can’t believe it or maybe I should. I just said Lucy Lennox couldn’t write a book I wouldn’t love. Well she did. My main word for this book would be frustration. I spent most of the book hating Tucker. I didn’t care for him in the other books , but I thought I’d love him here. No, he was still an annoying creep. I just couldn’t care about him until right at the end. Sorry, it was too late. Even Michael Dean’s narration didn’t save it. Awful, and I so love the propel of Licking Thicket.

This series really surprised me! Is the humour equivalent to that of a teenage boy? Pretty much! But I still laughed so hard at every book!!

So glad Dunn and Tucker finally got their act together, but it was frustrating how they just kept running from their issues and never really talked about things!

I'm intrigued by Carter though and looking forward to his story.

Omg I just devoured Fools. This book and series is just simply put amazing. I loved the trope of best friends to lovers. It’s about time these fools or should I say fool got his act together. Lol.

Man we have been waiting for Dunn to open his eyes and see wha it’s in front of him with his best best friend Tucker. You can’t help but love these two and this town Licking Thicket. For a small town being in everyone’s business it’s the best.

I absolutely loved when the light bulb finally went off for Dunn and things surly did heat up for them. So much laughs and love.

Let’s just say I fell in love with Carter too and soooo happy to see he will be getting a book.

Check out this series. If you don’t your missing out on love, laughs, a small town, and most of all family.

I am stuck at 65% on this book. I mean, it’s right there in the title but these people are ludicrous. I can’t believe these are supposed to be adults. The town was obnoxious, the obliviousness of our two main characters was painful and I hated everyone. Even people I liked in earlier books. The most inexcusable part is how bad Jenn is at her job and Tucker doesn’t fire her. It makes him bad at his job that he won’t fire a person who rearranges patient files according to how good their cars are. I get that the town is supposed to be kooky but this is insulting.

The secrecy, the lunacy. I hate this and can’t imagine finishing it. I mean, who cares if these two idiots end up together? This book should have been 35 pages long and wrapped up after one honest conversation.

I have liked many books by both these authors and will give whatever comes next for them but this one ain’t it.

While I didn't have the best luck with Fakers book one in the Licking Thicket series I have loved every book since then. Not sure if I was too harsh on it, it was my mood at the time or if I simply didn't really love it as much as I was hoping I would. Fools however was the story I have been desperately waiting on!! Dunn and Tucker were positively adorable, even with the instalove which maybe wasn't instalove because they have been besties for so long.

While I did love this book there were still some parts that I felt like were missing. I really wanted more of Dunn and Tucker in the "falling in love" stage. To me, it seems like a part of the story was missing. Yes, Dunn finally realized his feelings for Tuck, but it felt like we didn't see that part of the story. It was like one kiss and he is all in. I wanted the part where Dunn had that realization of "OK, maybe Tucker is the one for me." Again, that could have just been a me thing.

The epilogue was adorable, and I do have to give props to both authors because it feels like they have come so far from book one with overdoing the southern thing. It was still present in this book, but it was done tastefully with Carter and him experiencing the things in The Thicket that he had never experienced before.

Honestly, I am super thrilled for Carter's story in the all-new series Thicket Security coming later this year.

So much fun

If The Dating Game were held in Petticoat Junction, it might be something like this book.
I am totally in love with the fine folks of the Thicket, and the courtship of Dunn and Tucker is comedy for the ages. Or Mayberry R.F.D.
Yes, it is over the top, as are all the books in the series, but the characters are just so lovable, I roll with it...and with laughter.
You don't have to read the others first, but you really should.

I was perfectly fine with Dunn and Tucker as individual characters. I actually liked them both.

However, their absolute refusal to recognize, believe, accept, or acknowledge the truth of their relationship/feelings for 95% of the book was tedious to the point of being frustrating. This is only compounded by the fact that everyone around them could see the problem, but couldn’t be bothered to have an honest straightforward conversation with either man.

I’m sure the reader, who is in on the joke from the beginning, is expected to find the situation funny and entertaining. It wasn’t.

From a reader who loved Lennox’s “Made Marian” and “Facing West” series and enjoyed Archer’s “O’Leary” just fine, it makes we wonder if the plot devices in the “Licking Thicket” series (that I seem to have such a problem with) are an unintended by-product of the authors’ influence on each other or are something they deliberately planned. Either way, I’m going to have to give it some serious thought before investing any more of my time in Licking Thicket.
