Grace and Glory

Rate this book
The thrilling finale to the New York Times bestselling Harbinger series.

Danger, betrayal, and enticing forbidden love...

Trinity Marrow has lost the battle and her beloved Protector. Even with both demons and Wardens on her side, Trin may not win the war against the Harbinger.

Bringing Lucifer back to the world to fight the Harbinger is probably a really, really bad idea, but they’re out of options—and the world’s ultimate fallen angel is the only being powerful enough to impact the outcome.

As Trin and Zayne form a new and more dangerous bond and Lucifer unleashes Hell on earth, the apocalypse looms and the world teeters on the end of forever. Win or lose, one thing is certain—nothing will ever be the same.

It's like every book in this series got worse and worse🤚 Thank god I'm done.

***There are no spoilers in this review***

It's hilarious looking at 2019 me who absolutely loved the first book, even going as far to say that it was the best book ever. *wheezing* That review embarrasses me immensely and I'm like 95% sure that if I reread Storm and Fury right now, I'd hate it.

Reading this book was such a slog. Literally how I felt with Rage and Ruin... I don't know why I was expecting this to be better than that. It was just worse.🤡 And I have no idea if this is because I'm in a slump, but sooo many things irritated me and it's either that I truly didn't notice all of that in the first two books or JLA just really made this book alone terrible.

Trinity and Zayne annoyed me so much in Rage and Ruin I didn't think it was possible for them to get worse but it was. For one thing, the dialogue was just super cringey, I died many times throughout the book. I can't believe I'm saying this but I was sick of the romance. Like please, how cringey could you get??

Also the obsession with Trinity calling Zayne 'good' every single moment like okay?? Stop?? I get it?? You legit don't need to constantly remind me that Zayne is 'good' or 'perfect'.

And not only would be she saying how "good" Zayne is, but also how he always just said the right things. I swear to god, it was torture. I wanted to kill something. Like actually, the temptation to light this book on fire. unfortunately i couldnt do that since this is a library book

I squeezed my eyes shut. “Why do you always have to say such perfect
things?” (pg220)

“There you go again, saying all the right things,” I murmured. (pg227)

I took a small breath. “That was also the right thing to say.” (pg228)

“Why?” I toppled forward, dropping my head on his shoulder. “Why do you have to always say the right stuff, Zayne?" (pg263)

I pressed my lips together in a mulish line. “You’re doing it again.”
“Doing what?”
“Saying the right stuff.” (pg264)

“Why do you have to be so good? I would be peeking at everyone’s soul every chance I got.” (pg321)

“You’re doing it again.”
“Doing what?”
“Being perfect.” (pg333)

No but like PLEASE STOP I GET IT.

I want to murder these two with my bare hands.🙂 There was this one scene where someone calls Trinity "trifling" and Zayne goes and says he wants to kill said person?? Just um, okay chill dude. Zayne can go die.

Ah, the times when I used to actually be cheering for Zayne and Trin *laughs* I literally despise the two and the romance was the worst part.

Edit: Well yeah never mind as you can see I dropped it to a 1 star anyways. The only reason this doesn't get 1 star is because of Cayman. I'd love to say it was also because of Roth but like JLA totally just erased him from this book until the end... the one demon prince of hell who actually made this series interesting. It's like the friendship that was building up between Trinity and Roth—completely gone.

And like not only did the characters annoy me a lot, but please JLA at least make the story engaging. 503 pages and all I felt was boredom the whole time. Bad characters and dull plot = torture💀 I regret all my life decisions that led me to reading this.

I actually would've given this book 5 stars if both Trinity and Zayne died, but of course that would never happen—at least that would've made this interesting.

well, another JLA series come and gone and, gosh, im going to miss zayne. while i still think this spin-off series is better than the original dark elements series, its only because of zayne. he is the heart and soul of these books and im so happy he got the story he deserved.

the only reason im not rating this higher is because i forgot just how cringe JLAs dialogue can be in her YA books. after rereading one of her adult series, the awkward exchanges in this are so painfully obvious, especially with trinity and all her pop culture references.

regardless, this is a really strong finale to a great paranormal series. a must read for those who enjoy stories about angels and demons and supernatural references. lol.

a big thanks to inkyard press for the ARC!!

One thing I really like about Jennifer L. Armentrout books is the fact that she pretty much explains everything that happened in previous books as well as all the different characters and connections instead of just presuming that the reader recently read the prior books in the series.

I did listen to these three books right after each other. However, it is nice for people that either read them right after each are published and wait between books or skip one of the books in the series. I wish more authors would do that. I don’t know how many times I have read a book and forgotten much of what was in the previous book.

The same narrator did this entire series and I really enjoyed her. The storylines were fantastic. Though one story persisted throughout this three book series, each book had its own separate storylines as well. This one had a lot more humor than the other two. I absolutely loved Lucifer and the way he got all caught up in watching Lucifer on Supernatural.

I have to admit though that the story moved a bit slow in the first half of the book. However, once Lucifer came on the scene it did pick up. Trinity and Zayne went through a whole new set of trials and tribulations and had all the love and chemistry of a great romance. I missed Trinity’s ghost friend Peanut through much of this book, but he showed back up not long after Lucifer for some great comic relief as well.

Update:

Look at that stunning cover! I think it's definitely my favourite from the trilogy

UPDATE:
After a disappointing run with The Crown of Gilded Bones, I was nervous to jump into another book by JLA, particularly one from a series I adored. The harbinger series was one series that was unexpectedly good. I mean come on! Who would have thought I would fall head over heels in love with a Gargoyle. it's so out of the box.
Not to sound dramatic but my faith has been restored! Grace and Glory was worth the wait!
I know that within a span of just a few weeks, JLA released two books, Grace and Glory from The Harbinger Series and The Crown of Gilded Bones from the Blood and Ash series. There was so much hype with TCOGB which ultimately led to a huge disappointment for me... where as there wasn't much teasers and hype for Grace and Glory but I got to say, Grace and Glory deserved all the hype.

A huge shout out to Lucifer himself because he was such a standout character.

Spoiler alert but The Harbinger series is YA so don't expect the level of sexual scenes like the ones we got from the B&A series.

ps. this is kinda unrelated, but if youre a fan of JLAs Wicked trilogy, i just want to inform you (in case you didnt know) that the first book has been adapted into a movie by Passionflix. you can stream it HERE.

#1 Storm and Fury — 4 stars
#2 Rage and Ruin — 3.75 stars

wow, is this Supernatural or what?? i feel like JLA is just narrating one of the episodes or seasons in said TV show. also, is it just me or did the characters lose all their appeals in this book for y’all, too?? i was looking forward to cameos from Roth, Layla, and Cayman cuz it was clear that they were the ones who carried the 2nd book on their backs, but they didnt appear until late into the book.

oh boyyy, did this series just get cringey and cringey-er or what?? i swear, it was manageable and more bearable before. and Zayne... dear JLA, how much more do you have to force feed me that hes perfect and good and whatnot?? he bored me! 😭 pls tell me, this is the last book, right?? cuz the way it ended sorta opens up for another possible installment(s) or maybe even an entirely new spin off.

Honestly, I stuck with this book for the characters, who I previously liked. The plot, however, was convoluted and nonsensical, the twist at the end felt like the author retconned her way out of this. Everything was made to fit too neatly.

A large part of this book was dedicated to Zayne and Trinity’s relationship arc, which I preferred to the plot beats when it comes down to it, but their heart-to-hearts were overdone, too sugary sweet. It occurred to me that I might be part of the problem; maybe I’ve outgrown YA to a certain degree, but then again I did enjoy the first two books more than this. Zayne and Trinity were characters I was able to root for – here their relationship started to annoy me.

The dialogue was hit-or-miss for me; sometimes I chuckled, sometimes I rolled my eyes at the forced pop culture humor to it all, especially when it broke up fight scenes, taking away from the urgency and danger of any given situation. And as much as I enjoyed “Supernatural”, this felt like a long advertisement for the show.

All in all, not even GraphicAudio could save this for me, which is a tragedy. I actually abandoned the dramatized adaptation at some point in favor of the ebook so I could get this over with faster. A truly disappointing end to this trilogy. The fact that I reread books 1 and 2 so I could finally read this and enjoy it as a GraphicAudio production just makes me sad.

Spoiler section below!

I want to return to the beginning for a moment; I need to backtrack to make a point about the convoluted plot.

After the cliffhanger in book 2, this book picks up where we left off. Unfortunately, however, we are then treated to one of the worst info dumps ever on all things gargoyles and angels. And the rules didn’t even make sense.

So Zayne has been made an angel upon his death because he is worthy or some shit, but he chose to Fall to be with Trinity and, naturally, in the process everything goes wrong: he not only he forgets Trinity, but he is also exposed to the seven sins and he was witness to humanity’s sins in general, he is further exposed to the anger and bitterness of all those who Fell before him. Also, his senses were “overloaded” and he was “infected” so if he remains in that state he will be more prone to “violence that is seeping into every pore”, becoming a danger to all, essentially “becoming something as vile and evil as any demon.” Oookay then. Like I said, things get convoluted and don’t make much sense, to me anyway.

And I don’t even want to get into the fact that Peanut the ghost, the comic relief, turned out to be an archangel and Trin’s father to boot! What the hell!

Also, one bond between Trin and Zayne is cut by his death only to be replaced by another bond no one knows of until Trinity dies. Actually, as long as he lives, she lives, which is convenient since she would have died otherwise and since Zayne is immortal now as a Fallen angel..

Ok, I’m done. Moving on.

Phew! The ending was incredibly satisfying. I came into the third book with a high from the first two books and was afraid it's all going to come crashing down; but, it didn't! I paused three-quarters into the book when everything I believed about good was turned upside down for me, challenging my foundational beliefs. I came back after two days break to finish it and was not disappointed. JLA came through again.
In this last book, Trinity risked everything to get Zane back, and Zane pushed divine boundaries in the name of Love. Together and against all odds in heaven and on earth, they worked together to face a formidable foe. Making alliances in unlikely places and pushing every boundary there is to save the world.
I enjoyed this series very much. My rating? Five twinkling Zane stars.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

i did it bitches!!! someone should give me a prize or something for actually slogging through and finishing this series😎

after reading three books in several days, i am done. after all of the insta love. the info-dumping. the villain monologues. the unnecessary slew of detailed fight scenes. the characters conveniently bumping into people who know vital information and openly tell them. it’s finally over.

i lost track of the same plot line being regurgitated over and over and over. like Trinity just going about her business being a badarse, having a zesty moment with Zayne then being interrupted by a horde of demons spearheaded by some random, villainous character who wants to kill Trinity. r e p e a t. she even had the same conversations with said villain as she did with the previous one. Armentrout seriously needs to take some time to come up with new dialogue. so ultimately i skimmed a lot of this book.

as a reader, you can’t predict or anticipate or theorise what’s gonna happen next with the plot bcos Armentrout doesn’t even do a shitty job at laying out the clues, she just doesn’t lay any out at all. instead we just get throat-punched with revelation after nonsensical revelation that makes zero sense. like a random character we have never heard of or seen before being the mastermind behind their problems. which was supposed to be a ‘shocking’ moment... if said shocking moment wasn’t set up so miserably. totally a season seven pretty little liars finale level of wtf. instead of Spencer with a shitty British accent... we got the Grim Reaper... with a shitty British accent.

so after the first book, i realised there was no point in me trying to anticipate plot lines and align puzzle pieces bcos the pieces she gave me didn’t even fit together. i hope my analogy makes sense :)))

the only interesting plot line was Trinity potentially being pregnant and that didn’t even happen. a lil baby always makes books better. idc that she’s 18 and trying to stop the apocalypse. Josie did it in the Titan series ;) all i could picture was a baby made out of lil pebbles since Zayne was a giant fucking rock. and i was hoping a lil baby sideplot would make me like Zayne more bcos... *sigh* Zayney boy. while he was more tolerable in this book, i still didn’t have time for him lol.

now, we get it, okay? Zayne is such a good guy. i was beaten over the head with the ‘Zayne-can’t-be-evil-he’s-such-a-good-guy’ stick that i have it branded on my fucking forehead for all to see.
”But Zayne...he shouldn’t be bad. That’s not who he is. He’s rare. He’s a good guy. Like too good for you.”

”Why do you have to always say the right stuff, Zayne?”

”If this was happening to any Warden, he wouldn’t sit it out. You know that. He’d be right there, making damn sure that he came home and that he didn’t add to the mess the other was in, and so would any of us.”

”Why do you have to be so good? I would be peeking at everyone’s soul every chance I got.”

Dez cleared his throat. “He was the best of us. I don’t think he ever realised that, and I know for sure he didn’t understand that all of us would’ve rallied behind him if he took over after his father. We didn’t care about what happened in the past. He may have been missing a part of his soul, but he—he had more soul than most of us.”

”You’re doing it again.”
“Doing what?”
“Being perfect.”

like i get it, okay? and half of those quotes were all before the 15% mark. take a shot every time someone reminds us how good and perfect and loyal and perfect Zayne is and how he doesn’t eat carbs. id be paralytic right now. well, it kinda feels like i already am after reading this book. the cliche characters and terribly unwitty (yes i made that word up) dialogue was enough to send me into a coma.

again, his perfect good guy persona made me so tired . he was just an irritating character to read so the romance too was kinda lacklustre and irritating.

”You are all I ever wanted, even before I knew what I wanted. It was you. It was always you,” he whispered, voice raw.

as an isolated book, the romance was cute and the best of the series. Zayne’s devotion to Trinity was swoon worthy to read. but... i still ain’t forgetting his shenanigans from the last book😒 he was a douche to her but then was suddenly all rainbows and sunshine farting out his arse. it gave me whiplash. if he’d been like this in the previous book and apologised for being a dick, i would have liked this series a hell of a lot more.

but i enjoyed his mushy and playful side— it was better than his super serious, uptight, good guy shtick. when he was like that, he suited Trinity a lot more since his uptight arrogance of before was combative to her stubborn hotheadedness. they clashed, and not in delicious angsty way, but more so the irritating af way lol. so, i enjoyed them as a romantic couple the most in this book.

but ultimately, i really don’t have anything of substance to say since this book lacked so much. my only other thoughts are, im glad Layla apologised to Trinity for being a bitch. still made me like her less than i did tho. no one disrespects Trinity in front of me🔪 Stacey didn’t apologise tho the little rat bag. i could totally take a swing at her. that was legit my final thought when i finished the last page— i was waiting for her to go up to Trinity and say sorry but instead the stupid cow was playing fucking volleyball. so my parting thought was hope she gets smacked in the face with said volley ball☺️

and sidenote: you’re telling me Peanut was Trinity’s father all along?? the same Peanut who overheard (several times, im sure) Trinity and Zayne having seggs and told Trinity about it ://// i– what?

and it looks like from the context of the ending, that this series will be getting its own spin off too ffs. i beg of you, we have had enough . not again. please.

4/5 ★★★★☆

“You are all I ever wanted, even before I knew what I wanted. It was you. It was always you.”

Marathoning this trilogy was one of the best decisions of my year. It was exactly what I needed to read now. Although Grace and Glory was my least favorite of the three, I find these books up to the mark and totally worth it.

description

As I said, this third book was my least favorite in the trilogy, since there were several things that did not convince me. However, I really enjoyed this story and consider The Harbinger to be a far better trilogy than The Dark Elements. The characters had a good arc of development and the plot, in general, was well managed.

While this book wasn't perfect and the romance outweighed fantasy, I'll give it four stars because it was still as addictive as ever and made me enjoy it. Sometimes that's all we need from a book. Nonetheless, I understand why some people ended up disappointed, as some characters here feel very different compared to the previous two.

As for the ending, it wasn't quite what I expected. I liked the closure of some things, but others disappointed me a bit. After reading nine of the author's books, I noticed a pattern that she's repeating in all her stories, which lessens the emotion of the book and is no longer surprising. I wish this ending was different, but it didn't ruin the story for me either.

━━━━━•❃°•°•°•°❃•━━━━━

Spoilers ahead:

This section will have some major spoilers for the book, so if you haven't read Grace and Glory yet, don't continue.

1. Peanut was always Michael: I had to start with this because there is too much to discuss about it. On one hand, I liked the idea that Trinity always had her father there with her and I really appreciated that last conversation they both had, she deserved it. However, I can't help but feel like this was forced, almost as if the author hadn't planned it and decided to include it at the last minute. I mean, Peanut was after her daughter's boyfriend... it's not even funny 🥴

“You, a child of one of the most powerful archangels, have always lacked faith.” The Throne smiled at me. “It is a good thing that neither God nor your father have ever lacked faith in you.”

That was nice and I loved it, although I still don't know what to think about this revelation.

2. The subplot of recovering Zayne: This is one of the things that didn't convince me. It is true that everything is resolved relatively quickly, but it seemed unnecessary to me. I would have preferred the book to focus more on the Harbinger, seeing all the threat he posed, than on getting him back after he had this period of "amnesia".

3. The new friendship between Dez and Trinity: While I found it sweet that the clan was so supportive of Trinity, it doesn't change that many things seemed to come out of nowhere.

Dez had only had a few short conversations with her and suddenly he's ready to protect her with his life. We couldn't justify this with his close friendship with Zayne either because the truth is that they didn't even grow up together, they weren't that close, so why was he willing to die to bring him back? He has a wife and children! It's very unrealistic that he would put himself in that situation. It was a forced friendship. Then it got fixed a bit, that's the positive.

4. Zayne's new attitude: I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like the Zayne we see in this book is different from the one we knew before. Yes, he still had his full cinnamon roll moments that made me adore him and kept him on my list of bookish boyfriends, but he definitely changed. It may have been an intentional thing of the author with this whole Falling issue, but sometimes his extreme arrogance just didn't fit the character.

P.S. I still love him, just to make it clear.

5. Tony's appearance: It was short, but I wanted to mention it because I loved it 😆

6. Roth disappears until near the ending of the book: This has me outraged. I imagine JLA replaced Roth with Dez (which didn't work) to prevent fans from pairing our beloved demon prince with Trinity, but this was too sudden. In the first two books, he was constantly appearing and forming a nice friendship with Trin, why couldn't we see more of that?

description

“You can do it.” Roth bent at the waist and leaned against the counter. “I believe in you.”
“Shut up.”
His golden eyes glimmered with amusement as he looked up at me. “Rude.”

At least their interactions were entertaining, but I insist that I would have liked to see more of the friendship between him and Trinity.

7. Trinity and Cayman's friendship: I appreciate that JLA left us Cayman. His friendship with Trin was hilarious and I think it was well developed, so I really liked it.

“Call me if the spell somehow doesn’t contain him and you need to run for your life,” he’d told me. “I’ll run with you.”

Mental reminder: Get a friend who runs for his life with you 🤣

8. Danika and Nikolai being very cute: If the author decides to write a new trilogy about them, I'll sign up.

This new side of Danika was very entertaining to read, although I would have liked her participation to be greater. Her idea with the gemstones at the end was a waste of time because it's something we never quite finished seeing, which is somewhat disappointing. However, I liked the brief appearances with both.

9. The Crone being Zayne's fan: I really liked the role she played in this book, and the fact we get to know her a little more. Although the cherry on the cake was seeing her flattering Zayne 😂 She will have to compete with Bambi and Cayman for the #1 spot in his fan club.

description

10. The false pregnancy alarm: NO! This is a great, great NO.

First of all, I don't understand what the "mystery" was as to whether the Trueborn were fertile when it was clear from the beginning that they are. Didn't humans who can see ghosts have an angel in their family tree? To get to the next several generations, there first had to have been a Trueborn and from there come the other descendants. Where was the mystery? But beyond that, I didn't like at all how they concentrated on that topic, they didn't seem like themselves 😬

11. Zayne and Trinity threatening Lucifer: Oh, I loved this 🥳 They were willing to threaten the Devil himself to protect the other, that was beautiful. Also, Roth was the voice of reason right then, and that was a show 😆

12. Zayne lost his soul: Does this mean that he will go to Hell if he is killed? 😲

13. Zayne and Trinity being super cheesy: I know some didn't like this, and it's completely true that they were super cheesy, but I loved seeing them like that.

“I still can’t believe you Fell for me.”
“The Glory was nothing compared to your love.”

description

“You know I’m always going to be here. Remember? I’ll always be here to make sure you can see the stars. I’m just your Guide...Fallen Angel.”

They are too cute, and I adore them 🥰 I will miss them feeling the emotions of the other.

14. Ghost villains: I didn't like this very much. Gabriel literally appeared briefly only once before the ending and Bael hadn't appeared since Storm and Fury. It was disappointing because Gabriel didn't feel like a real threat and Bael died as soon as he appeared in the ending, without actually doing anything other than summoning fire for three seconds.

15. Jada's return: I wish her appearance was longer, but I still appreciate her return. Trinity needed to have her friends with her and not continue to be left out, having only her boyfriend's friends.

16. Is Thierry Jada's father?: At first I thought it was my mistake and that I had been reading the first two books wrong, but then I realized that I wasn't the only one. He was supposed to be Jada's uncle, so why do they suddenly say he's her father? These types of mistakes make me think that I know the book more than the author herself because it wasn't the only one.

It's a shame neither he nor Matthew showed up again. They were important in Trinity's life, and it would have been nice if they were there for her, even on call or something.

17. Roth WITH horns: As far as I know, in all the books in this universe created by JLA, one of the few differences between gargoyles and demons (skin color aside) is that demons don't have horns while that the Wardens do. So why did Roth get horns this time? 😐

18. Teller's betrayal: It happened really fast, and this character had only appeared once before all this, so I still don't know what to think about that.

19. Zayne and Roth being buddies: This is something I loved from the first book, their rare friendship makes my day and I wanted to highlight it.

“But it warms my heart to know that you care.”
Roth smirked. “Whatever, Stony.”
“You missed me.” Zayne grinned. “Admit it.”

description

20. Trinity's immortality: Definitely a recycled element from the author because she already used it in Every Last Breath with Layla and in The Crown of Gilded Bones with Poppy. It was all very convenient, and while I like the idea that she and Zayne can live their happily ever after, I would have preferred this to be handled differently.

Positive point was that Trinity continued with her vision problems instead of recovering it as if by magic.

21. The new bond: I understand the concept, but there's something that I don't quite understand. If this bond is stronger than the Protector's, then why does Trinity keep getting weaker when using her grace? That didn't happen to her when she was tied to Zayne and he was a Warden. I'm curious.

22. Zayne being a cinnamon roll for the millionth time: I couldn't finish this review without mentioning this 🤣 There's a beautiful scene that I had to include.

“Did I ever tell you what Heaven smelled like to me?”
I lifted my head, searching to find his features in the dim light. “No, you didn’t.”
“Jasmine,” he said. “Heaven smelled like jasmine.”
It took me a moment—okay, it probably took longer than it should for me to get that, but then I did. “My body wash is jasmine.”
“I know,” he confirmed. “Heaven smelled like you.”

Honestly, as a finale, this just seemed a little underwhelming..

The plots all tied up too neatly, and far too easily somehow.

Also, I just kind of got a little bored of Zayne and Trinity's relationship...

Grace and Glory
⭐️⭐️⭐️

Is it a bad thing I forgot about this coming out? The book gave me an icky feeling despite how much I enjoyed the other books...
The ✨spark✨ was missing and I didn't feel attached to either of the main characters, or any other characters for that matter.
sksksksks the only thing I remember from this is Trinity ranting about how perfect Zayne is and how he always says the perfect things. CAN YOU STOPPP-
Anyways, I don't think I'll purchase the book, but I still own the first two in the series.

SOF*CKINGGOOD ! What a mind f*ck, haha. RTC !

________________
Such a perfect, gorgeous, AMAZING cover for what I know will be one HELL of a RIDE !

ALSO— I AM FIRED UP! I have to say that I LOVE that the title is Grace and Glory !

Whereas the titles of the first two installments of the series, Storm and Fury, & Rage and Ruin, respectively, evoke feelings of Chaos, Grace and Glory just has a Happier vibe about it.
Hopefully, this means a super satisfying & H A P P Y ending for Zayne & Trin! *knocks on wood*
(maybe a HARD EARNED sexy & sweet HEA ending? Hm? Hm? Who’s with me?!! Haha)

Plus, come on, it’s JLA; We all know that this is going to be a f*cking fantastic read.

4 Estrellas!!

An epic conclusion to an amazing trilogy.

Jen gave Zayne and Trinity and the whole Dark Elements/ Harbinger world a satisfying ending. I was worried going into reading this book that I wouldn’t connect with as much as I have been reading a lot of New Adult fantasy and going into a Young Adult urban fantasy was very different. But I forgot how much I love Jen’s urban fantasies, she included such funny banter between characters, great jokes about pop culture but also keeping on track with the whole ‘we need to save the world’ vibe.

After finishing Rage and Ruin and experiencing THAT cliff-hanger I knew this book would start off with some major stuff happening and I was not disappointed. The first ten chapters of the book you see Trinity and Zayne going through it. What they deal with and what they have to do was a shocker, I didn’t expect it to happen and it was nice that the story wasn’t solely focused on one storyline. Zayne and Trinity relationship was just the best in this book, they experienced some really cute moments, heart-stopping moments and some YA level spice that made me wish the book was in NA. they head to deal with this brand-new relationship while also figuring out how to save everyone. After finishing this trilogy Zayne and Trinity have become one of my favourite couples.

We of course got all best twists and reveals throughout the book. Especially in the last few chapters, some I didn’t expect. They kept me even more invested in this book and I couldn’t stop reading! Meeting Lucifer was one of the highlights of this book for me, he was such a funny character. He reminded me a lot of the TV show Lucifer in Lucifer. There were moments I laughed out loud and shock my head in disbelief at some of the things he said and did. He was great! As always, I loved seeing Roth, Layla and Caymen. They’re dynamic and what they add to the story was just great.

Throughout the books you see trinity living with her Retinitis Pigmentosa and adapting her fighting to work with it. One thing I loved is that Jen didn’t magically ‘cure’ Trinity’s RP through some angelic powers, she easily could of but didn’t. that made Trinity more real and I really liked how she did it. It showed that you can be a badass trueborn whatever genetic disease you have.

Overall, I absolutely loved this book. I am sad that the series is over and I have to say goodbye to the characters but I can always reread as much as I want! You guys with love Grace and Glory.

((this review will have a lot of writing errors, english is not my first language and i'm tired))

This book was a disaster. Seriously, it even took me over 40 days to finish it.
I honestly don't know where to start. I'm so exhausted that i highly doubt it will become the long, poisonous review i had planned to write. Although well, knowing me, maybe it is a bit long because brevity is not my thing.
I want to start by saying that i was Team Zayne in 2014 (if you read the main trilogy, you will understand), and that since then, i have waited with a lot of excitement and anxiety that Zayne could star in his own trilogy. And that Jla fulfilled my dreams and expectations in 2019 when he published Storm and Fury and that everything went to hell with its sequel, Rage and Ruin. And when I say that everything went to hell, I mean that I literally threw up from fucking rage. And it is all, and nothing less, Zayne's fault. Because if Zayne wasn't a fucking asshole with no emotional responsibility, I wouldn't be writing this shit right now. But hey, let's not get sidetracked, I don't want to think about the second book because it brings back bad memories and a bad headache.
So it's pretty obvious that my dislike for Zayne wasn't going to allow me to continue with the third book, and I certainly wasn't in my plans, but I couldn't stop thinking about Trinity, my second favorite heroine (after Penryn) and what,,,, i didn't want to die one day without knowing how his story ended, you know?
So I went expecting this book to be a disappointment and of course, i was not wrong LOOOL
I will try to summarize it, but it took me so long to read the whole story that I probably forget a lot of unpleasant details that I will add as the days go by (or not, I really hope to forget about this book as soon).

1. The absence of Roth.
Let's talk about how Jla used Roth's presence in all of the promo teasers for this trilogy and the boy was practically getting more scenes than Zayne and Trinity put together, to mysteriously disappear him in the final conclusion. And I say mysteriously because I feel like Jla killed him and revived him shortly before bringing him back to the third book. The Roth we met was nothing like the Roth from Grace and Glory. He looked like an ugly cheap knockoff. He wasn't Roth and I really disliked that.
Plus there's the fact that I was never a fan of Roth in the main trilogy of his, but I certainly LOVED him in this trilogy, and I came to be hopeful about seeing him more in this book because he was pretty much the star of the previous two books.
So, I can't believe JLA used Roth's presence as the "hero" in the first and second books and almost explored a friendship between Roth and Trinity, for both of them to carry the trilogy on their shoulders because Zayne was as interesting as an old shoe.
And in the last book Jla made Roth barely have a scenes because apparently she didn't want Roth to keep stealing Zayne's limelight. Uhm, too late girl. Two books late. Too late to make that decision. We readers fell in love with Roth and now we wanted to see him!

2. Roth and Trinity's friendship.
In the first book Roth and Trinity teased each other. In the second book they began to spend a lot of time together on "work" issues and a friendship blossomed there. To the point that we could tell that Roth seriously cared about her. They literally went from "I hate you" to "hey I like you" and it was so fantastic that a lot of readers just wished Roth and Trinity would become best friends. Because, whyyy not? Everything indicated that in the third book they could officially consecrate their friendship. We were crying out for it.
It includes Cayman as well, who they had a good time with and could have been a great group of three.
And that Jla decided not to give us all that transition of: "i don't like you weirdo - hmm i think i like you - hey, i consider you something like a sister" bothers me because the author decided not to make those two the best friends they deserved to be.
And I think Jla did it because she realized that people ship Roth and Trinity, and she didn't want to hurt the Roth / Layla, Trinity / Zayne relationship. But JLA too late, because Layla and Zayne were irritating, you had to start there.

3. Dez
I liked Dez in his book, but him saying that he would risk his life for Zayne seemed very ???? BOY, YOU HAVE CHILDREN. YOU HAVE A WIFE. Why are you risking your life for Zayne? They weren't even close friends. If I were Jasmine, I would seriously leave you.
And the fact that Dez had a bigger role in this book and it was he who accompanied Trin on his journey to get Zayne back?
LOOOL. Are we going to pretend not to see what was going on here? Jla desperate to find a last minute friend as she sent Roth to hell ** suspicious ** and that Cayman couldn't ** suspicious x2**, just because the author didn't want some readers to keep shiping to Trinity with both boys and will they downplay Zayne.
So she had to go and find a married man with children to be Trin's friend and not-potential-boyfriend.
Well Jla, went wrong, because i have shipped them anyway.

4. Jada and all of Trin's friends.
Well, I hope her name was Jada or this will be awkward. But the fact that Jla liked isolating Trin and was practically just surrounded by Zayne's friends?
Nothing makes my hair stand on end more than a girl who only has her boyfriend's friends as friends. And much worse if your """two closest friends (layla and stacey)"" acted like bitches with you.
And two demons (cayman and roth) that could easily turn their backs if Layla is in danger?
Well that's not very reliable, is it?
I found it in bad taste that Jla didn't give Trin's friends more prominence in this book, at least. Jada appeared in a chapter and a half and that was it. I think Jada and Ty easily COULD HAVE ACCOMPANIED TRIN ON HIS TRIP. Yes, they should have. Or his adoptive parents. People who were trustworthy and loved Trin, not Zayne's friends.
Because really, let's imagine that in the future Zayne and Trin break up, do you really think that Trin is going to seek comfort from Layla or Stacey? Nope. She will say something like: "They were always friends with him and not mine." So hey, big failure there Jla.

5. Peanut, his ghost friend, turned out to be his father!!
God, define pathetic. Well then Peanut turned out to be her dad and it seems like Jla got that idea off her ass at the last minute because nothing fitted and at the same time "oh, it all fit" so pathetically. Also, Peanut used to spy on Zayne while he bathed and would make double-meaning comments about it.
Yes, we already know that you want your daughter's boyfriend.
We also know that Jla did not plan for you to be the father and that the girl who saw ghosts was going to have more prominence, but it turned out that she got bored at the last minute and was only interested in continuing with Casteel and what was the other girl's name? Penelope?

6.Trinity was unrecognizable. It wasn't the Trin that I liked in the previous books, it seemed muffled and dumber than usual.
I didn't like Zayne's change in attitude. Or rather, I loved it, that's how Zayne must have been from the start. Only then could i have believed that he loved and deserved Trin.
But at this point I don't like the change because I see it more as supernatural magic, I don't feel like it's the real Zayne. It's like when Layla took a piece of his soul away from him and it got nasty and everyone said, "that's not Zayne." Well, the same here. This is not Zayne. He is the Zayne he should have been, but not who he really was. And I can't like him if I feel like all this change has been false, pure supernatural power, and not a natural change of his. I feel like in this book the hero was his intense twin.

7. Layla's and her pathetic apologies, how stressful. Jla was able to go deeper there. Same with Stacey, and i don't like, but if she's your boyfriend's best friend, whom you'll have to see your whole life, at least you can spend a little time together to fix things before the book is over.
Jla really did give Zayne and Layla a couple cute moments for... what? Did anyone really want that friendship back? Okay, I don't judge you.
But she could also give me my Roth-Trin fuckin moments!!!

8. NOTHING happened in this book, seriously. The characters spent their time going from house to house, looking for people they would never find, having silly conversations (it improves your dialogues jla, you're not funny!), And embarrassing everyone by bringing a Lucifer who looked like my teenage cousin. Even Zayne and Trin's romantic moments were boring.

I forgot to say!! Danika is the best thing that ever happened to this world of guardians / demons but I really hope she never gets a book (too bad, she had potential) because Jla is capable of making her dumb and Nikolai could be a cry baby with no emotional responsibility and most likely: he would not yet get over his ex-wife and cruelly push Danika away. Oh, i can already feel it.
And another thing, i wish Zayne, Layla and Stacey had died.
Man, i wished Roth and Trinity fell in love so bad :( they seriously had potential. It's a shame.
And damn it, Jla, don't write another book about this world. Let them rest and dedicate yourself to your true passion: making Casteel steal the lines of your other heroes.

As Jla said in her thanks, it is bittersweet to end this series. And sis, you are right, it is so bittersweet to end this series because i ended up hating it very badly.
When I want to re-read the main trilogy (just to read some excerpts from Roth) I will remember this series and I will cry about how horrible it was.
That's it. I was ruined by beautiful memories of Roth.
Layla and Zayne were never important.
And I wish Trinity had been Roth's girlfriend, they had so much more potential and chemistry than the other two unsalted eggs.

What a amazing ending this was!!!!! I'm sad to see this series end but damn ! What a ride its been!!! I've loved gargoyles since I was a kid and while others were always afraid of them I was always fascinated by these silent statues guarding buildings and homes. I love the spin that Armentrout put on the origins of the wardens. Besides actually being gargoyles we found out in this last book that their actually fallen angels! How fucking cool is that! Armentrout is a master storyteller who pen's such beautiful tales and characters that aren't perfect but perfectly flawed and I love them all ! And in book 2 when Zayne is killed at the end I put down the book and cried like a baby!!!! I must have read the last pages at least three times hoping I read it wrong but I didn't ! Image my surprise when Zayne came back! But only one problem with this..... He came back a very pissed off fallen angel who wanted to kill anything good and our girl Trinity was at the top of his list! Now I wouldn't say I didn't find Zayne any less hotter because he was hotter and more intense!!! But as things do everything worked out. Their was alot of action and passion and some twists and turns thrown in to make us go what the fuck just happened and even a visit to earth by the ultimate bad boy of archangels Lucifer who just happens to like making a grand entrance, naked and sinfully handsome as always but he's also addicted to the tv show Supernatural ! And loves poptarts! Who knew! And my fave demons Roth and cayman are back!!! Love these guys! Also I have a new obsession the angel of death Azrael ! Once you get past the snark and the whole doesn't play well with others vibe he's quite a unique addition to this crew. Until next time Luv's💗💋

when you finish a trilogy not because you care about the characters or are curious about the plotline
but because you have to complete the series otherwise your brain will malfunction...

"thank you"

The last words in the series and my message to the author for creating such a stunning universe. I think this might be my favourite one after the Lux series, and the ending was so heart-warming I couldn't deal!

Loved, loved, loved it!

OMG. I'm soooooo sad it's over, but it was a perfect ending. Thank you Jenn for giving Zayne such a beautiful HEA with an amazing woman who is one of your finest heroines. I also appreciated understanding more about RP and my respect and admiration for you has only tripled with the reality of how challenging it must be to write with your condition.

It could be wishful thinking on my part but it was left a little open with the potential for more in the future. If that happens, I would love that. No pressure, just saying!
