Expect a Miracle: Quotations to Live and Love By

Rate this book
New York Times bestselling author Danielle Steel shares her favorite words of wisdom, sayings, and quotes that she has turned to time and time again for inspiration and comfort. When Danielle Steel was a young girl, her grandmother gave her a beautiful antique book with blank pages inside. She wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. Draw? Write? Soon, she began to discover quotes she liked—words from other people that she wanted to keep and hold on to. She started to write them down on those smooth ivory pages. That habit of gathering sayings has stayed with Danielle throughout the years. And now, after a lifetime of collecting, she shares the quotations that have meant the most to her—lines from books and magazines, pieces of poetry, short passages from the Bible, and quotes gathered from the world around her. These are the words that bring her wisdom and humor, inspiration and comfort, and, above all, joy. May Expect a Miracle bring the same to you, too.

This is a sweet little book of quotes. That is all.. just some quotes o lift you up when you need a boost. To inspire you when life is getting you down. And we all need a little bit of this, especially in these uncertain times.

This was a surprise bookmail from Pan Macmillan Australia and I love it. It will be in my handbag at all times. You never know when you might need it. There are quotes from people of all walks of life and something for everyone.

Pick it up and have a smile 😊

I thought I would have a wonderful story. Didn't expect quotes.I feel like I was robbed.

I thought I would have a wonderful story. Did not think it would be quotes. I felt like I got robbed this time.

Ugh - Joel Osteen quotes 🤮
Some good ones in here, but a bit too churchy for me. Also, love isn’t the answer to everything, and all people aren’t good at heart. Some people are bad. Sorry, spoiler alert.

This was just okay for me. The colors too bright, the print too big, and most of the quotes I have heard over and over.

A compilation of quotes that have inspired Danielle Steel. Here are my favorites from the book:
1 - Do now what you can't do later
2 - Courage is not the absence of fear or despair, but the strength to conquer them
3 - Several quotes from the book "Children's Letters to God"

Danielle Steel’s ‘Expect a Miracle’ Reminds Us that Hope and Inspiration are Never Far from Reach

Hope. That is the one recurring theme throughout everything prolific author Danielle Steel has ever written. As her protagonists face everything from the Holocaust to abuse, cancer, heartbreak, and more, they never give up, no matter how shattered life may seem to leave them. Time and again, they persevere, until they discover just how strong and resourceful they truly are. But where does Steel find her inspiration? The answer is found in her newest book, Expect A Miracle.

Steel has always had a penchant for the power of words. She loves art with words in them, like the Love sculpture created by Robert Indiana. But she has also found inspiration in quotes.

When she was just a young girl, her grandmother gave her an empty book filled with blank pages inside. Initially, she didn’t know what to put in it. But eventually she started to write down quotes from other people wherever she found them.

Since then, she has never stopped accumulating all these wonderful sayings. They surround her desk, motivating her when she writes. She frames them. Sometimes she evens posts them above her writing space. Some make her laugh. Others fuel her dreams. And some have even given her the courage to keep on going. Now, she’s compiled more than 100 of her favorites in Expect a Miracle, a gift sized gem of a book, and is sending it out into the universe with the hope it will inspire us too.

When I received my edition on publication day, it found me still caught in the midst of the pandemic. Even on the best of days (or as good as they get anymore), this is a book that is wonderful to keep within reach. Just open it to a random page and inside you’ll find something to meditate on. Sometimes it might be silly, others it may be profound. But in the end it will put a smile on your face and may just be the impetus you need to remind you that there is still something out there worth hoping for, a light to keep your eye on even on the darkest day.

At the end of this book, Steel has even provided us with blank pages of our own to record our own favorite quotes. Who knows, perhaps this will change the way you read, looking for passages that give you that “Aha! moment” that Oprah always talks about, that make you giggle, or that simply warm your heart.

Perfect to give as a gift or to keep as a keepsake, Expect a Miracle is the little book that has taken a lifetime for Steel to put together. It is great to keep in your desk, or maybe even in your nightstand, always there for when you need a little inspiration yourself. And if you’ve enjoyed Steel’s novels as long as I have, you may get a glimpse behind the curtain and find yourself piecing together which of her stories were inspired by select passages. It’s a little game I found myself playing as I mulled over each quote anyway. Regardless, I hope you love it and that it reminds you that with a little faith, miracles are always there, waiting to surprise us all.

"Believe in miracles. Expect a miracle. Miracles do happen, just as the quotations say. Life is a miracle, friendship is a miracle, laughter is a miracle, and so is love."

This is my first Danielle Steel book. It's a cute and meaningful person project for the author, and the book's design and colours make it the perfect Christmas read. However, I don't think it offers much beyond that, especially in terms of originality because there are already so many collections of inspiring quotes out there.

Who knew Danielle Steel collected quotes?! I have a small red leather notebook that's just about exactly the size of the new DS book and it's where I keep all of my collected quotes. I loved reading steals latest book and being inspired or re-inspired by many of the quotes. We all need a little inspiration right now and I expect I'll pick up this beautiful little book often and read a few more pages.

This book is a collection of quotes on thick paper with rich colors. Other than the intro, there is no original work between the covers. If you are looking for a nicely printed copy of quotes you've likely seen a hundred times before (including inside Dove chocolate wrappers) this is it. There are lined pages in the back to add your own favorite words of inspiration. It would be a nice gift for someone who needs a little boost of encoragement.

I'm a big fan of Danielle Steel and motivating quotations. This was an easy 15 minute read. I enjoyed and was familiar with most of the quotations she chose. I'm glad I got it out of the library, it's not something I would have wanted to spend money on, only because there wasn't anything new for me but I enjoyed it.

Wisdom and quotes from my favorite author. Her grandmother gave her a journal to write or to collect quotations in. Some she wrote and some she cut out of papers and some she copied from scholars. The book is inspirational and she gives some very good advice on a few subjects. This is a book that everyone should own because you can go back and read the pages that help the most in your life.

Inspirational to read the various quotes that have had meaning in the life of author, Danielle Steel. Her characters do tend to overcome great obstacles and always seem to maintain courage, faith and hope amidst crises. The author compiled some eloquent words for her fans to share at this difficult time in history. Couldn’t have been published in a more pertinent year. Thank you, D.S!

Danielle Steel is my mom's favorite author. My mom was in a car wreck last August and now has a brain injury. I read this book often to her hoping that the words of love Will sink in to her and she will find love in her heart again. And it's a way to keep us connected. She is the one who gave me my passion for reading.

Expect a Miracle

Enjoyed the sayings some I had read or heard before but nice to remember them because some I had forgotten and probably needed to remember or remind my heart of them.

A small book of quotes Danielle has accumulated over the years. Don’t let the size of this book fool you. It is packed with a punch of wisdom. It may be a quick read but allow the words to linger in you mind and heart. Inspiring read, with resources from famous people to the Bible and more.

What a delightful quote book!
I must admit that I originally thought that this would be a fiction novel and was quite surprised to find it was a book full of quotes. There were some quotes that I personally didn't like, but other than that, a great uplifting book.

I love quotes. Needless to say, I loved this book. I wish that I had read one per day versus reading them all in one sitting; however, I think we could all use some motivation and this book provides just that.

Book 17 of my 2024 Good Reads Goal. I didn’t like all the Joel Osteen and Mary Baker Eddy quotations. I love quotes by different people but wish there was more of a variety in it. Still just okay though. I loved her little story of the notebook she received from her grandmother though long ago.
