When I’m selected to be the Supernaturalette, I think it’s finally my time to find love. But apparently? This is a special season of the show. Fuck Up Edition. Twenty-five men are competing for my hand in marriage. Twenty-five broken, eccentric men. Everything from a man-eating tree to a vegetarian wendigo to a garden gnome. And me, a witch with a penchant for lighting herself—and others—on fire. Let the introductions begin. This is a SERIAL-STYLE reverse harem romance. After every release, a poll will be placed in my reader’s group for the contestants. Each installment—including dates and eliminations—will be decided exclusively by the readers. This book will end in a cliff-hanger, so be warned.
Something tells me this one will be ongoing for a long time. Short introduction to twenty five men of various supernatural species. The fmc is the usual no filter, wonky magic with something in her past. It’s different. A dating show with the results decided by the fans. Funny and awkward with a bigger plot. Favourites so far are Keller and Ren. Can’t stand Jace.
I don't know why I never knew about the series cuz I've been reading Katie May for a while and loved all her work so when I tell you this and I started reading it oh I love it so much
Look, I never watched any of those bachelor or bachelorette shows. I only found out two days ago that we even have one in the Netherlands. But, when I heard about this book, where the reader could influence the story and could decide which characters stay and which ones go, I was intrigued right away. So, when it landed on my laptop on Thursday evening I knew how to start my day on Friday! With the introductions of the guys and their Bachelorette.
And this first installment was amazing! From the very first page we were shown how hilarious this was gonna be. Not one guy made a smooth first impression. Some were weirder than others, some were downright disgusting, some got a little more time to grow on us already, but in a way it was great to see all those different species and characters and it's clear that the author came up with amazing backstories for all of them. I hope we won't lose one too soon, that would be such a pity!
What surprised me however was that there was another part of the plot, a mystery, some murders and an amazing backstory for our great heroine. It made the Bachelorette part more interesting and it made our leading lady more interesting. It also gave the story a little depth. I would have been fine if it had just been some superficial entertainment, but I'm even more enthusiast about this concept now it seems to be much more!
This was the first book by Katie May I read, but it will certainly not be the last. Her writing was really nice. The dialogues felt natural and realistic and the inner voice of our heroine seemed fitting for her too. I could read through this entire novelette before work started. Which is good, because else I wouldn't have gone to work. I can't wait for the next installment and I at least already cast my votes in the facebook group!
Many times an honest negative review will inspire me to read a book. So... Here goes. Even though this is one of my favorite authors, I have put off reading this book. The premise just doesn't appeal. I personally am not into shows like the bachelorette- it makes sense that a book would not be my thing. The concept of reader choice is fun but it's what bothers me the most. I read RH BECAUSE I don't want to choose. In this novel there are well over a dozen awesome choices. Not all of them will make the cut. That makes me sad. Further, this book is not a full story. It is a very brief intro to the characters with a hint to the possible future. What I did like: the main character is quite possibly the most zany of all Katie Mays heroines. And that's sayen something. There is also tragedy in the heroines immediate past that adds balance and depth to all the crazy. Or at least it will once it has a chance to develop. Will I read the next? Yes! I want the story. My recommendation, if you are like me, is to wait until all the "episodes" are out. If you are not, jump right in and have fun casting your vote.
Honestly, this is 5 stars for me based solely on the fact that it’s a SUPER fun and creative idea. I love that the readers get to interact and choose the outcome of the series.
The book is short, and obviously introducing 25 potential love interests is a lot to do in one novella, but that’s how these tv shows go! Katie had a few sentences to introduce each character and leave a lasting impression (so expect some truly ridiculous moments). There won’t be any elimination after the first book in order to give readers time to get to know the characters a little more before voting some off.
There is also a ‘sub-plot’ of murder and intrigue alongside the ‘bachelorette’ main plot, so there is definitely more to the story than just the generic reality tv stuff.
Go into this expecting something fun and crazy! There is a lot of humor, vulgarity, and even some sex packed into this little novella signaling what is bound to be a wild ride for the rest of the serial.
Love the concept of this serial reverse harem romance. It's a play on a very obvious tv series and readers get to pick her men. I can't wait to see where this series go
I'm not a huge fan of TV shows, especially not the dating shows. Mostly, because they firstly suggest the wrong image. I don't have the feeling they are about true feelings, and often comes across as scripted. And typically the final pair isn't even together anymore, when the last episode is released. And it doesn't feel real, because they only show 'perfect and beautiful' people. Though, sometimes it is funny to watch one or two moments.
But ok. It's normally not my game. But the concept put in a book is interesting. Unfortunately, I had found this series as it was already finished. So, I can't partake at any of the polls anymore. But, at least, I can see if my choices make it into the finals.
This first book in the series was not only hilarious (I laughed a lot 😂 I like the psychotic and strange types), but with the side aspects it is too, intriguing and a plot in the making... yeah, count me in.
And so many men is a challenge. I have only read once a RH, where there were 25 men and in the end the FMC was together with all of them. That was a lot to read and remember (I luckily make lists for each book 😁 So, I don't forget any details).
I'm excited to see, where to this journey will take us and what Katie has in store. Especially the background stories... I hope she reveals everything, even from the eliminated ones. And you can already form, which of the characters have probably a key role.
But for now, it is a great introduction. I always liked Katie's books. I have read some and I love her writing.
5 stars, because I love the creativity and I had fun reading it. I'm ready to read the next one!
I wasn't sure what to expect going into this. It was a funny little blip that I wasn't expecting. Unfortunately, written in a short serial episode type format, that I hate. You just get started, and hit the end of the book, with a cliff-hanger into the next serial episode. I'm definitely not a fan of serial episodes, I've quit other author's serial episode books because that's what they were. I'd rather read a 150-200 page book in a regular series, but that's just me. The main character, Ridley, is really quite funny in one of those quirky snorty ways, I don't think this series is meant to be taken seriously. I don't like that the readers get to choose for the next book, as it seems like certain characters get short changed & others get too much time. I'm hoping as this continues that the characters will become more rounded out, because right now, they are a little flat. I liked a lot of the male characters in the 25 group of contenders. It was hard to read that many likable characters & know she has to eliminate so many of them, but I personally dislike that the readers get so much say into the story. I'll pick up the next book & see where it goes, but may or may not commit to reading the whole series at this point.
This book was shorter than I expected and is more of a novella than a full-size book. However, it was rather entertaining and set the stage well. The author has chosen this series to interact directly with her fans and allow fans to dictate who stays and who goes in this Bachelorette-Meets-Magic whirlwind adventure. The commentary was quite funny and the variety of males (this being clearly a reverse harem setup) makes for a very interesting number of possibilities.
The only thing that perhaps irked me was that it’s clear that Katie may have done the research and edited for many of the later participants but failed to go back and correct the first - namely, that Valkyries (not typically male but letting that one slide for obvious reasons) is not from the Greek pantheon but rather from the Norse. I know this could easily be countered as a stick up my backside but getting pantheons/mythology right when using it without twisting it into something new is a bit of a pet peeve of mine. I know I have a lot of catching up to do on this series but do think it will be ultimately well worth the investment of time and funds.
This book was definitely unique. This is the first book/series I have read that was interactive where the author let's you vote on characters and dates and such, I had to give it five just for that. This first book was a pretty quick but enjoyable read. Here we get to meet all the men and get peels at our heroine Ridley's past. So far there's a few men In really pulling for and I'm hope they are still in the running at whatever point the story is currently at. There was a lot to absorb in a little time and I get that's how it would feel of you were on a dating show with some many guys vying for your attention. There was even some action-y mystery for what looks like it will be an overarching/underlying problem to solve. Well written, creative, even quite a few funny moments can't wait to see what's next; would recommend.
You're not supposed to read this book seriously. It's silly and funny, just like that stupid Bachelorette show. Except, you know, better.
Not really a fan of the random, graphic sex scenes.
Also not really digging the murder mystery plot. I would like it a lot more if this wasn't a Choose Your Own Harem story. Readers can vote in May's Facebook group to eliminate contestants which is cool. However, this means that Grant the ex, and whoever the murderer is (if they're indeed a contestant) are pretty much guaranteed to stay to the end, defeating the point of a poll.
Despite those two things, it's a goofy, quick distraction of a read.
Alright you guys. I’m dying. I’m over here I freaking stitches.
The supernatural twist on a dating show is everything I never knew I needed. I’m late to the game so I won’t be voting but oh my. So worth the read. I’m excited to get into the next episode.
Ridley is so awkward and lovable but seems to have a fierce core. I can’t wait to see more of her and the guys.
This is hilarious... its an interactive take on the Bachelorette??? I love it. I have some reading to do to catch up but this is such a genius concept.
For the actual review of book things... there an interesting plot going on. The writting is good. The characters are all pretty diverse and they all seem to have thier own stories and personalities. Im looking forward to reading more and catching up so I can participate.
Yessss! I love the whole idea of an interactive dating book, first of all. And though we’re way past the first book while reading this, I’m SO INTO THIS BOOK!! I was cracking up the whole time! It’s hilarious! This author has a wickedly awesome sense of humor. I also love how there a mystery element to the plot as well and it’s not just about the dating contest. Can’t wait for more!!
This is a cool idea for a writer. She writes about 90;pages, sets the world, and we get to vote on who will get a date with her. Our heroine, Ridley, has massive foot in mouth, actually, she might have foot in larynx disease. She has a broken heart, and is convinced to try out for the supernatural equivalent of The Bachelorette. Looking forward to seeing who the Facebook group voted on!
From page 3 I was howling with laughter! Do yourself a favor, first grab the book, then join Katie's group on Facebook. She has posts that show visual aides while introducing the characters, and I promise you, you want the extra visual 🤤🤤. This book is hot! And I can't wait for the next one!
This has to be the most funny thing I've read from this author by far. I was LOLing so hard I was cryin!! Jerome and Ren are my favorite so far based on funny factor mostly 😂😆. Quinn is definitely my least favorite due to his incubus ways. Ridley is soo funny. I can't wait to read more!!!
Such a fun idea for serial. Think bachelorette but with supernaturals and a little murder mystery mixed in. Part of the fun is voting on content for next book in her reader group the week after the book is released. Ridley and the contestants are hilarious and I can’t wait to see what is in store for them in the upcoming books.
Omg this book was too funny. I would love to actually be able to watch this. These are the most fantastic and funniest characters that I have ever seen. Very mysterious. I can't wait for the next part.
What an amazing way to make a story come alive. I love that this is interactive. It was also incredibly funny and I’m loving the characters that have been introduced.
This is an adorable idea and so fun. I normally hate serials but the idea behind this one is just too cute to put down. Now I need more! I want to know who makes the cut. And I think a few need to leave the house already. Before the first date even.
I really enjoyed this book! The concept is super fun! Can't wait to read the next book, then have a voice in the outcome. I also really like that there is some more to the plot besides the dating show. Ridley is so freaking funny! Great book all around.
Just a massive meet and greet of all 25 guys and first impressions are hilarious from the first guy. Of course I've got my favourites already. Can't wait to read more. JL
Funniest thing I have read in a long time! The descriptions of the bachelor's are so detailed! I love that the FMC is so hilarious and digging that thong was epic, lol!! Can't wait to read the other books in this series!
*mouth open* Oh. My...wow...okay that was totally not what I had expected to happen.
Ridley is an awesome character, the guys are interesting - some are totally swoon worthy- and the plot/ending of the book is leaving me rather speechless.
I wish I had read this as it was being written and was able to participate in the choosing. Either way this was fun and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series
I wasn’t sure if I would like this book. When I read that this book would be done in episodes, I was a little hesitant but I absolutely loved it. I love Ridley, the FMC, she’s awkward and hilarious. I’m not sure yet about the guys but I’ll let you know
Love the world building and the funny fmc. She’s funny, quirky, and awkward. Every book will eliminate guys and the readers get to choose who stays. Must read
