Dentro de cien años, cuando alguien quiera saber cómo era el estado de la clase media en el mundo occidental de los inicios del siglo XXI no necesitará más que leer Vernon Subutex. Aquí se resalta cada arruga, cada mancha de la piel, cada grano, verruga o espinilla, pajera o no, de ese rostro nuestro que sigue retorciéndose en muecas a cuál más obscena y cruel y para el que, a pesar de todo, la autora no puede sustraerse a la esperanza de encontrar algún gesto de generosidad, alguna prueba, por mínima que esta sea, de que otro orden de cosas es posible.
“Se llegó al agotamiento a fuerza de oír repetir hasta la saciedad: sólo hay una realidad posible, la de los grandes patronos con las manos totalmente libres, sólo hay un futuro factible, más liberalismo y cada vez más liberalismo. Sólo hay una interpretación válida de los hechos, y es que no se puede poner límites al mercado, nada debe impedir que los más ricos se queden con cada vez más, nada debe impedir que los poderosos traten a los sometidos como a esclavos. Privatización de los beneficios, socialización de las pérdidas, demolemos el país para ponerlo al servicio de los bancos, y lo más preocupante de la historia es que le han metido en la cabeza a todo el mundo que no se puede hacer otra cosa.”Por todo ello, quiero dar las gracias a Virgine Despentes: aunque lamentablemente la novela está especialmente dirigida a todos aquellos que nunca la leerán, alguien tenía que decirlo y pocos podrían haberlo dicho mejor.
