To give this series its first three stars seem implausible. And just because I did, it does not mean that I did not enjoy them, because I do. I am still very much in love with the Forger family.
Although not much has happened, this book remains entertaining. We have Yor polishing her cooking skills, Yuri teaching Anya for her midterm, Loid on another disguising mission because he was concerned Anya's grade was not good enough to help his Operation Strix, but later encounter a new spy who intends to do the same thing as he did.
However, what happened next is the reason why I was inflamed into rating these three stars because I do not appreciate another presence as a potential Loid love interest. I mean, who actually prefers a love triangle? I do enjoy the trope being employed more in a manga than it was in a written novel, but I have to be assertive that I truly — like, truly not appreciating it this time.
Nightfall is a badass and strong sure, but she got nothing on Yor!! It was pretty funny that I got so worked up over a character that was introduced under light and humorous circumstances but anything that gets in the way of my parents, shall not see the light. Truthfully, this new character introduction got me on edge because it means that there will be lots of possibilities as to where this plot is heading and I don't need extra drama for Loid and Yor.
Not to say, as heartwarming and exciting the journey of reading this series had been, this volume had a lot more small side missions that I didn't think were integral to the story. Though, it would be a double edge sword for me if they fasten things up, because I am yet ready to impart with my unique family. Still, I wished we would have a little bit of something different this time. I was hoping we would get to see more of Bond and his foretell ability too, but was not given here.
Even so, this does not deter me from continuing this series. I just better get something more for my power couple in the next volume or I'll have an event planned. Thanks.
I feel like the same gags are being repeated over and over again with this series (Anya not wanting to study, Yor not knowing how to do mundane tasks, Yuri being weirdly obsessed with Yor, etc) to the point that I'm losing what little interest I still have towards this series.
Loid is still my favourite character, but he didn't really have much impact in this volume. I think what kept me most interested were some of the school scenes, like Anya and Damian building their Griffin. I wasn't necessarily bored with this volume, I was just left hoping for something different this time around, which wasn't really delivered.
Anya has midterms and Yor's brother tutors her, while continuing to hate her and Loid for stealing hr affections. She tries hard.
It's interesting how limited the advantage of being psychic is here, especially when it's a little kid who often can't interpret what people mean or how to answer; I think this theme is really well handled.
A new spy character is introduced, intense Fiona, who works with Loid at the hospital (I hadn't realized he actually had a psychiatrist job vs just a cover story). We're clearly going to be seeing more of her.
I'm really obsessed with this story! I can't stop laughing and I can't stop loving the Forger family! By the way, Damian Desmond is the most precious boy. I love that he has a secret crush on Anya :'v
this was such a fun ride as usual! buddy read with lesly and we both agree this volume felt more like a filler volume compared to the previous ones we read but still enjoyable nevertheless. so many new characters got introduced and i just have a feeling it’s going to get better from here on out.
i’m ready to be on the edge of my seat chewing my fingers in frustration!! give me all the angst!!🫡
I'm so consumed by Spy x Family that I can't seem to go on with my day without thinking about them.
Best parts from vol. 5:
- Loid wearing a lab coat. Can't wait to see him wearing his mundane work uniform in the anime as well. - Becky crushing on Loid. I don't blame her one bit. - Yor learning how to cook and accidentally poisoning her family and colleague with her original recipes. - Bond showing more of his personality aka getting jealous. - Anya indirectly shooing Fiona away.
Spy x Family continues to give us all the fun we want in this silly family adventure.
This one luckily focuses on Anya, who is just the most adorable character ever. This time it's more episodic in nature where we go on fun adventures in her school life. From her trying to pass a test (And getting lessons from her Uncle results in some funny as hell scenes) and then her helping a boy who thinks his life is in ruins, to trying to build a doggie out of paper. It's plenty of fun times to be had mixed in with a little spy adventure here and there with Loid.
Overall this series continues to be extremely enjoyable. Funny, great pacing, good characters. Only think I want more of is Yor and her missions since those bring in some intense fight scenes. Everything else is awesome.
(Volume 5 includes Chapters/ Missions 24 - 30 and Extra/bonus Mission-3 at the end.)
It's crazy how cool all the family members are in this. Yor's brother is Loid's enemy for all intents and their interactions are beyond hilarious. Yet, I can't help but find him endearing. He really cares about his sister and doesn't think ANYONE is worthy of her. That's cute. Crazy, but cute.
