Alexander Hunter published this book in 1904. It's his personal memoir as a Confederate soldier of the Army of Northern Virginia. I enjoyed reading his first-hand account of many aspects of the war, his perception of the time, and the ongoings around him. He was involved in Bull Run, Seven Pines, Second Manassas, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and the Wilderness. He even details his stint as a POW at Ft. Warren and life in an army hospital which I thought was a pretty cool chapters.
I thought was a neat memoir from a Confederate veteran. The book reads clear and is evenly paced. Thanks!

Book was written in 1905 by A. Hunter Conferderate soldier from 1861 to 1865 (Infantry and Cavalry)based on his journal. Interesting reading of the prisoner exchanges early in the war and Hunter's writting of respect that existed between many soldiers of the Union and Confederacy. A. Hunter's statistics are right on the mark and he provides critiques of both the Confederacy and the Union. This book provides a view of the Civil war from a soldier's point of view.

First hand account
This is an amazing firsthand account of an infantryman in the Confederate army. He is a good writer and storyteller, including personal contacts with Robert Lee and Jeb Stuart. Alexander was right in the thick of things. It's a long book, but I was disappointed when it ended.

From the point of view of a southern fighter but I thought it was going to be from both sides point of view. It was interesting to read something first hand with such a southern slant on it.
