Pixie looks at Heart, then bats his eyelashes. “I’m not a fucking elf,” he says, his face all innocence. “I’m a bottoming elf.”
We've been teased with Pixie and Bear's love story since Rebel, and although I was excited to see these two get their happily ever after, I was a little bit disappointed. This series got off to a strong start with Heart being my favourite in the series, but I do think Campy and Pixie fell a little short.
As with the other books, this story takes place at the same time as the others, we just get the events from Bear and Pixie's perspective. I do enjoy this method of setting and plotting a series! It's hard to put my finger on it, but Bear and Pixie just felt a little lacklustre. Perhaps it's because we've been teased with them for the first four books? I'm not really sure. Both characters were frustrating in their own way. Bear was so stubborn that at times I wanted to toss my Kindle (and not in the good way). His friendship with the gentleman in hospice was so beautiful though. He was a very caring individual, and the perfect Daddy for Pixie, but I wasn't entirely sure if he was going to pull his head out of his arse. Pixie was really sweet, and I completely understand why the other Ballsy Boys love him so much! I did feel like his character flipped between strong and independent and taking no shit to kind of helpless? It didn't always make sense at times. His money management scared me a little bit, and I'm glad Bear helped him sort it out.
Overall, this book was okay. It wasn't the great ending to the series I'd hoped for and it left me a little disappointed. I did like the set up for their Kinky Boys series with Daddy, and I definitely do want to give those books a read at some point! I would've been okay if I just read the first three in this series though. You can't protect me or anyone else from bad things happening, because then nothing would ever happen to us. It's part of life, isn't it, the negative experiences? You don't get to experience the highs without taking the lows as well."
