Team Zero #4

Shadowed

Rate this book
She ran from monsters but fell into the trap of the most dangerous one.

Zoe
Shadow is as untouchable as his name. A fighter. A killer. A mafia man.
To avenge my mother’s death, I barge into his world head first.
It starts as a game. A bet. A push and pull. But then it spirals into a web of secrets and forbidden desires.
The more I get to know the man within, the harder he consumes me.
He’s too much. These feelings are too much.
I run, but can I hide from a monster?

Shadow
To protect my deadly secret, I drown in killing and madness. The facade hides my darkness and pushes everyone away.
Not her.
Zoe provokes me. Challenges me. She twists her fingers in my black heart and stirs a part I thought was long dead.
Then she runs.
She calls me a monster.
Well, this monster will never let her go.

Shadowed is a mafia romance, romantic suspense, and a killer romance with tones of darkness. For a better understanding of Team Zero's assassination world, you might want to read Crowed and Ghosted first. Shadowed is an enemies to lovers romance, has no cliffhanger and no cheating, and ends on a HEA. Due to language and sexual content, this is advised for mature audience only.

Sociopathic Assassins find love in all the wrong places.

I love these books, the Hero’s are the toughest badass criminals you could ever find. They are damaged from being kidnapped as children and put into a brutal assassin program called The Pit, which got them addicted to a toxic drug that made them immoral senseless killers with no memory and a desire for blood and death. Now they are attempting to get off the drugs and out from under the thumbs of the men who run the program.

Meanwhile they have to continue to act like they are still on the drugs and working for the program by running Mafia businesses owned by some of the shareholders of The Pit. They can’t truly escape while some of their peers are still held hostage in the Pit. In the previous book, Ghosted, we met Shadow who had fallen in love with Zoe, who was Elle’s friend that came to the Salon (the brothel run by Ghost, Mist, Shadow and Flame), to try to avenge her Mother’s murder.

Zoe disappeared after a few weeks working as a waitress at the Salon. Elle had found out that Shadow was obsessed with her and was also looking for her. In this book, we meet Zoe prior to starting her job at The Salon. Her relationship with Shadow is volatile and steamy from the very beginning. They are attracted to each other and to the violence in each other from the first time they meet. Zoe had a boyfriend in the past who called her disturbed for wanting the things she wanted in bed, but she is attracted to the way Shadow makes her feel.

I don’t want to give away spoilers, but this book is pretty awesome in that it furthers the continuing storylines for team zero and the Pit. The romance between Shadow and Zoe is knocked out of the park. Her background and his mesh perfectly together and the intricacies involved are written extremely well. I just love this entire series. It is my cuppa (as Shadow’s Nonna would say).

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really liked the previous book in this series GHOSTED and Shadow and Zoe intrigued me a lot, so I was excited to dive into their story. Did I like it? Yes. As much as Ghosted...not quite. And I'll tell you why. (lol) My main intrigue about this couple came from things we learn in Ghosted. We don't get to that point in this book until 50%. Now I know the author had to lay the groundwork for the romance so when we got to that point things would make sense. But I found myself just pushing through the first half to get to the part of their story that intrigued me more. I wanted more of that. More of them as an actual couple. A small part of me kind of thinks this book should have been before Ghosted. *shrug* The other small issue I had was I expectied the sex to be more kinky and more plentiful. Other than a couple rough roll arounds it felt pretty tame.

description

Those couple issues aside, I still found this one to be a decent read. I enjoy this author's writing. The plot was intriguing. There is a great cast of secondary characters. No OW or OM drama. Both the main characters were likable. Shadow (not a manwhore) was super intense. But still sweet with Zoe. Zoe (not a virgin) was feisty and strong. Last, it was all wrapped up in a three months later epilogue. I would have preferred one a little farther into the future, but I am sure we will see this couple again in Mist's book. I don't like Mist, so I don't think I'll be reading that one. All in all, it was a good read and gets a thumb up from yours truly.

Dark, Twisty, & Intensely Sexy

Zoe was the mystery and chase in the last book! Elle spent all her time and energy trying to find her. I enjoyed finding out what was going on during that lost time! The twists thrown in this one were unexpected and original in opinion!

Shadow was a mystery his quick wit and drop in Ghosted! I loved seeing his story develop and what made him the way he is.
It's incredible how the darkness in Shadow & Zoe brought about something wonderful. They complete each other in such a way that I'd occasionally infuriating! The chemistry between the two is off the charts. The hot sexy times are dark and kinky. Yet liberating. Rina seems to be exploring a darker side with each book and it's fascinating.

I liked this book, i loved Shadow and Zoe.
I liked the way it started and how their relationship was build.
I needed more romance in it tho, there was passion , but i needed more to melt for them,it was better than Ghost's tho, the story could be way better if the author focused more on the couple than the things around them.
The h's, in this series need to stop hiding and run away🙄 and the H's need to stop going back to Hades, can't he been killed already?🤣

-I love the plot-line and characters, specifically Shadow. His nicknames for Zoe are 🤭
I liked zoe but i thought she was quite annoying sometimes, specifically when she made stupid decisions without telling anyone or would find something out and not tell Shadow🙄
I still find it dumb how the mc will leave the fc about 30 pages before the end of the book to ‘keep them safe’ and then show up
as if nothing happened. Personally, i would make them grovel.
Overall, I really liked the book and the series has definitely gotten better since the third book🤞🤞

Nobody writes a dark and twisted romantic suspense like this author. Shadowed is a fast-paced novel that is full of intrigue, dark desires, plot twists, and action.

“Break her. Destroy her. Claim her.”

Shadow is an assassin who was abandoned as a child and has a traumatic past as he was forced into Team Zero - a group of people trained from a young age to kill while under the influence of the toxic drug, Omega - a drug that he struggling to detox from. Shadow is a dark and somewhat twisted hero who holds an obsession with Zoe. Zoe is a heroine that kicks butt. She is full of spirit, spunk, and determination as she is on a quest for revenge. Her horrific childhood is sure to pull at one’s heartstrings. The two have similar dark sexual interests and have great chemistry together. I found them both to be unique and interesting characters who were well-developed.

I enjoyed watching the story unfold - both witnessing Zoe and Shadow’s love story, but also gaining more insight into Team Zero, Omega, and Hades. The action, suspense, and the plot twists throughout the book kept me on my toes and entertained until the very end.

This book is a part of the author’s Team Zero series and in theory it can be read as a standalone. I do recommend reading the previous books in the series to get the full experience - especially Ghosted since there is some timeline overlap. If you read this author’s other books, then you will be thrilled to see the appearance of some of the characters in this book. I received Shadowed for free and I am looking forward to more works from this author.

Shadowed by Rina Kent
Zoe has vowed to avenge her mother’s death. By doing so, she has to infiltrate the underground and work at the famous La Salon. She needs to get close to those who can lead her in the right direction without blowing her cover. Unfortunately for her, she has attracted the attention of Shadow. While she can’t deny the instant attraction between them, she also can’t afford to lose focus on her true mission. Shadow is obsessed with Zoe and he knows what her deepest, darkest, desires are. While trying to get off the drugs and become a better man, he is also battling with his own past. When Zoe witnesses Shadow in action it scares her and leaves her wondering more about the man and what her options are. When Zoe disappears without a trace, Shadow vows to find her, even when, certain evidence points to a dead end. Can Shadow find her alive and if he does, will she want him? Ms Kent has given us a book so full of plot twists and she has rounded it up where past lives cross into the present. The story is full of action, plenty of building climax with steamy passionate moments. Secondary characters come into play and I will be looking forward to hearing all about the lady of the house in upcoming books.

I never thought I needed light until I caught a glimpse of hers.

Reading Ghosted, I was incredibly curious about this story but it was a bit anticlimactic, it all seemed to happen so fast that it was hard to connect with the characters at first. Still, I'm giving it 3.75 stars because I loved Shadow so, so, so much.

I've said it in my reviews of Team Zero's books that one of the things I love the most is to read about the warmer side of these ruthless killers, and this wasn't an exception. Shadow is caring, sweet and unapologetic about his feelings for Zoe and for his friends. His actions weren't only driven by a girl, but his longest friend and the woman who raised him, which gave him a lot more depth. Shadow wasn't scared to show love and affection, he didn't think twice. If he loved, he said it.

I didn't love Zoe at first like I thought I would. It felt like she was always trying to get something but wasn't willing to give it in return, and it was frustrating. I wanted to shake her more times than I can count. But I suppose it still made a bit of sense considering her past and how hurt she was. I was so sad reading about her that and that twist (both twists really) at the end.

The relationship was a bit too fast and I wasn't that attached to them at first, but things changed as the book progressed. Their feelings andcare became more evident in every action, some really dumb for the sake of protecting each other but oh well! Zoe and Shadow accept each others flaws without shying away from the darkness.

I wish we could have seen more of Zoe with Elle and Liam, but the glimpses at their friendship were really sweet.

I'm so curious about Mist and Hawk and hoping quietly that if one day Rina picks up this series, she will write a book about Scarlett and Liam.

Well, this one really hit me deep in the heartstrings! The author knows exactly how to grab a reader by the throat & heart & suck them down into an emotional whirlpool.
Shadow (anti-H) really resonated with me. Why? I truthfully am not sure. The other Team Omega stories were also filled with tragic pasts, horrible torturous training to survive & claw to the top & the periods of mindless slaughter they experienced when the Omega drug enflamed their minds & shed any trace of humanity from their heart & eyes.
But somehow, Shadow's story seemed so touching to me, I truly felt so much empathy for his tortured existence. And although he was supremely lucky to have Ghost as a mate & loyal friend 7 team member, one who cared deeply for Shadow, Shadow had no one to love & who loved him.
Zoe (h) I was more ambivelent about, but truthfully I tend to be that way with most heroines. She's written as a strong heroine with some understandable flaws & weaknesses & most of the time I had no problems with her character at all. She's entranced by Shadow & doesn't understand why: she alternates between being angry at herself for being attracted to him & worrying she should run away from him.
The author does an excellent job with keeping the reader's interest in the plot & characters, we are given both Shadow & Zoe's POVs to help understand why they react & act the way they do. There is a little bit of steam, a lot of intrigue, danger, suspense & enough doubt about Shadow & Zoe's possible relationship to keep readers eager & on tenterhooks.
I read this in one straight sitting because I really couldn't find a good place to take a break.
This is an excellently written dark, romantic, intrigue story I highly recommend.

Anticipating Her Monster

Geez I just don’t know where to start! This book being the 4th in the Team Zero series bowled me over, I just could not stop reading this superb book. A fast paced, gripping storyline that you must read NOW or regret doing so! I can only but highly recommend this well deserved 5 star story! I can’t wait for Team Zero book 5, Mist and Hawk’s story. So many twists and turns in this amazingly dark psychological thriller by the magnificent author Rina Kent! The twist at the end of this book is such a shocker and will blow your mind, it certainly did mine!
Shadow is untouchable, a fighter and assassin of the worst kind, a man to be feared! Zoe has had a hard life, both parents dead and she is now looking for her mother’s killer, she must avenge her death! Elle her foster sister and best friend of all and Liam also a foster brother and a lieutenant in the police force are her only family now! “Make him pay! if it is the last thing you do” was her mother’s last words, that is why she is also a student in the police force! Will she be able to find the new drug production factory that no one else has and died trying? Now that she has been accepted at Le Salon she must not get caught! Mist is the leader and madam of Le Salon that also runs prostitution, money laundering and gambling, on the side mafia business! President Joe and Mist are Enemies each plotting each other’s downfall! A war for decades between their factions. Shadow the arrogant fighter traps Zoe in the darkness of the club but she escapes and runs! Could Zoe offer her body to attain her revenge against her grandfather?

Blood is all he lusts for! He belongs to Team Zero and is an assassin for The Pit run by the evil Hades! The Pit is Ghost’s, Mist’s and Shadow’s Hell! Will Zoe have to run from her monster? Will Shadow find Zoe and will Zoe become her mother? Will she ever be at peace? Who can unlock Zoe’s childhood memories? 5 stars!! This is my favorite book of the series thus far!!

This is book 3 in the “Team Zero” series. This can be read as a stand alone but these books roll with each other and I suggest reading them all. This book is Shadow’s story.

This is crazy but all these psycho’s grew on me. I knew they were a somewhat family before but this book made them more “real”. I fell for each of them even Mist in this book. And Shadow he really surprised me. I fell hard for him!!

Shadow and Zoe are a match made in ...well hell. But in a good way. I really enjoyed both of their back stories and my heart aches for them both. At no point was I not rooting for them. They are actually my favorite love story thus far. But Hawk is really a big question mark. I can’t wait to find out more!!

I think this book is amazing. This one intertwined with the other books and finished stories off or showed us what happened from another point of view. It had been awhile since I read the previous book and I was worried I would forget but there is no way you forget any of these beasts!! I can’t wait until someone brings down Hades!!

This is the fourth book in the Team Zero series but it can be read as a standalone. For better understanding it is recommended to read the first three books in the series first and also the Rhodes series. There are cameos and the stories are connected. This is the story of Shadow and Zoe. It's told from their point of view.

Thoughts:
*I wasn't overly excited about this book. I admit it. I never liked Shadowed much and Zoe didn't spark my interest. I don't like how Shadowed always calls Mist, old hag. He was mean to her for no reason. The book surprised me and I ended up really enjoying the story.
* I liked the jealousy scenes.
* Shadow and Zoe walked so Sebastian and Naomi could run xD
* The plot twist, there were actually two of them. I didn't see them coming at all. Rina is brilliant when it comes to plot twists in my opinion. I never see the coming.
* I like their HEA.
* There's another Aaron Rhodes cameo! ❤ I can't get enough of him. Rina robbed us.
* The timeline of this book overlaps with Ghosted. We finally learn what happened with Zoe at Le Salon and how her relationship with Shadow started

Summary:
To be added at a later date - I have a headache thanks to my neighbor.

I was very excited to read this story after seeing numerous teasers for it. In some ways, the story lived up to the hype and in others, it didn't. I found myself frustrated at parts due to how the story played out. The story lacked cohesiveness in places in my opinion. There were also some grammatical errors or missing words. Normally, I can look past that both it took me out of the story several times.

However, the story and the characters were intriguing enough that I kept reading because I wanted to see how it ended which has left me in a conundrum of how to rate this book. Perhaps, I need to go back and read this series in order and that will help me better evaluate my opinion. I was told that this could be read as a standalone but I am thinking, in hindsight, that if I had the backstory leading up to this it might have made the story make more sense. Regardless, I appreciate the author for thinking outside the box when it comes to Mafia.

A million thank yous to Rina Kent for writing Shadow’s story! Shadow pops in randomly in the previous Team Zero books and you will fall in love him. You will also be dying to know his story and who was the one that got away. When you find out, it will have you hollering because it is perfect! It is a small world.

Shadow and Zoe are just it for me. These two are my favorites of Team Zero. There are twists and turns and deceit that runs deep. A story of two broken people healing each other. They are each other’s light, warmth, and home. There were times where I wanted to yell at Zoe for things she was doing or for decisions she was making. I would not say Zoe is hard headed just hard-hearted. She has felt loss before and she does not want to ever feel that way again. So breaking down that brick wall they are both holding up takes some time.

I can say that this book has me leaning a little into Team Mist side. I was not a fan of her at all but she proved herself in this book. She is not as cold and frigid as I thought. So will she end up with Hawk?? I don’t know. It had me thinking maybe crazy Scar will be with Hawk but I will be patient.

Shadow and Zoe’s story is so full of love and hope. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Rina Kent’s world of sexy, dark alpha criminals has consumed my every thought. These stories have so many twists and turns, you’re holding onto your seats for the story to unfold. I love rina Kent’s writing style, her dark, delicious and demanding world she has created. She had masterpiece of a series on her hands that continues to get better and better with every book. Her situations are dark and forbidden, and you never know who’s going kill who or how things will unfold. Another 5+ star read from Rina Kent.

Zoe and shadow start out with an interesting start. She is in the job and shadow sees her and wants to know more. Their story is one that will keep you waiting and wanting more. Their chemistry is off the charts and steamy beyond reason. You see sides of shadow that most don’t know about and you will swoon over how he is.

An amazing book by Rina Kent that you will love so much!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Wow! I love, love this Team Zero series!! This dark and suspenseful Mafia romance is simply phenomenal. Packed with murder, mystery, danger, darkness, drugs, passion, and intrigue that make it very interesting and compelling to keep you glued to the pages of this fascinating story. This is the fourth book in the Team Zero series. This thrilling and suspenseful story is about Shadow (Angelo), one of Team Zero’s notorious killers. The secret of what happened to Shadow as a child was disclosed, but he would eradicate anyone who knew his secret. Shadow was raised by a woman named Nonna. As a teen, Shadow was also kidnapped and trained to become an assassin by the organization called The Pit—founded by Hades. This tall, handsome, sexy, arrogant, cold-blooded killer, and an a**hole will do anything to protect those he cares about. Zoe had a traumatic childhood, and while in a foster home she met Elle and Liam—her foster brother and sister. When Shadow meets Zoe, he is enthralled with her, but she tends to provoke and irritate him—he can’t help to be drawn to the feisty, sassy, and obstinate beautiful woman. Zoe had planned to infiltrate the place where Shadow is an owner to bring down one of its rivals for revenge. Will Zoe’s plan work or will it be thwarted? Will anyone find out about Shadow’s secret? Wait until you read what happens between Shadow and Zoe—you will be flabbergasted. Rina Kent you did it with this twisted, steamy, and suspenseful romance with deep and troubled characters. The storyline is fluid, and the characters are extremely well developed. You won’t regret reading this book!

I love that we find out Shadow is not hollow, is not Rubbish Boy but he is a man who loves deep and loves hard. The book is kind of split in 2 parts. The first 46% is mainly about Shadow and Zoe then the rest brings back characters that were in Lured and continues to develop and add more information and details about Ghost/Julian and Elle and other members of team Zero. The books in this series continue to get better and better as we find out about Team Zero and know although Omega turns them into killers they have not lost their humanity and innate character. Keep them coming Rina.

This book is freaking insanely good. I have not read the other books in the series and I am not sure if I should tell you to read those first or not. I liked going into it blind, the author does a great job of getting you caught up to speed in what happened without going into over details.

Shadow is a member of Team Zero and let's just say that you don't really want to be a member of this team. This means that they were all forced into a live of mindless killing. He is a monster, but is there more to him than just killing?

Zoe is a contradiction. She is so freaking strong in some aspects and in others she is extremely weak, but aren't we all. Her weaknesses are what defines her and makes her the person that she is. When she meets Shadow she cannot help but be attracted to this monster, but is that really want she wants for her life?

This book is full of information and a lot is going on, but it will suck you into the life and you do not want to get out. When the book ended, I literally kept swiping on my kindle wanting more.

All in all, this book is heavy but has some pretty humorous moments as well. Rina Kent did an excellent job of showing the inner dialogue of her characters to be interesting, witty, and human. I give this book a 4.5 outta 5 and will definitely be on the lookout for more in the series!

PS: Thank you to the author and Enticing Journey Book Promotions for allowing me an ARC to read in return for my honest feedback!

Oh Shadow! With each Team Zero book, I think I cannot possibly like this one anymore that I liked the last book. So with that said, Ghosted had set the book bar pretty high for me going into Shadowed. Yet, Oh my holy hell!! 😍This book far surpassed ANYTHING I could have imagined. I’m so in love with Shadow and Zoe’s story. They are so beautifully and tragically damaged, yet absolute perfection together. They are so unbelievably hot. 🔥Shadow is the perfect blend of dominant, crazy jealous and secretly sweet in his own way. Zoe is feisty and fierce and can hold her own pretty well, yet is submissive enough to perfectly balance him in the bedroom...or any room for that matter.😉 I’m going to be super vague here, because #SpoilersSuck ! I loved the connections that came out between Shadow and Zoe. The historical information, if you will. Wow! Rina Kent literally knocks you out with one surprise after another in this book . So much was amazingly unexpected. This entire Team Zero series is so spectacular and while each book is a standalone each one uncovers more mysteries and keeps you anticipating the next read. Your dying to see what secrets are unlocked in the next book. I would highly recommend reading this amazing book, but would definitely recommend the entire series, in order. I would give 10 ⭐️stars easily!! 🖤♥️🖤♥️

At first I was confused because it's been a while since I read Ghosted, and really, I wished that Shadowed had been before Ghosted to be honest, but that didn't change that fact that I totally LOVED this story. Zoe is trying to get revenge on a man named President Joe, so she goes rogue & goes undercover in a place with another type of criminals who are dangerous as well. What she didn't count on was Shadow, who wants to make Zoe his, though he's worried if he does. Let me tell you, it's quite the push & pull, which drove me insane with how long they circled around each other. They had the chemistry, OH MY HELL they had chemistry so intense that it shot out sparks every time they were near each other. But there was so much going on, which I can't reveal, that helped in blocking so it seemed like it took FOREVER for them to really seal the deal. Obviously, I'm talking about a crap ton of twists that had me dropping f-bombs like crazy until I couldn't drop them anymore since the twists never stop coming. And the cast of secondaries were quite the colorful group, and I CANNOT wait to read more of their books in the future. To find out what happened, you know what to do! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

ONE THRILLING ADVENTURE!!!
Man, what a whirlwind! Rina skillfully laid this baby out with one thrilling storyline and explosive plot that propels this little jewel to life flawlessly. Twixt and twined and stretched to unbelievable limits that keep you grappling, fusing piece after piece together without a crease. All the uncertainty, revelations and speculation along with all that drama and intrigue go hand-in-hand. A legion of surprising circumstances along with a bevy of inadvertent mishaps thrust those blazing emotions into play front and center. One non-stop action packed, page flipping bombshell keeps you riveted on a razors edge. Pushing through all the trials and tribulations with such perilous paths, nerve racking danger and electrifying suspense catapults this unique spin to a whole new level. The characters and their personalities are original, tangible and well developed with just enough flaws to add spice to the mix. The scenes are graphically detailed to give you a full understanding and the realism that play out fluidly from each scenario without a hitch. Remarkable job Rina, thanks for sharing.

This is book four in the Team Zero series, I love this series. I have had the pleasure of reading each book in this series far and cannot wait to continue. Meet Zoe and Shadow. Zoe is looking for revenge for her mother's death and she goes about this by going undercover at Le Salon. Le Salon is an illegal entertainment club that will fulfill all your pleasures. Zoe meets Shadow of all people and believes that she can use him to further her self along. This girl makes me shake my head as Shadow is a wild card. Shadow is this guy that is mentioned in previous books but leaves you with nothing but mystery and a dark shiver running down your back. I was so excited to read this book and get to know him. Shadow comes with a nasty past and a difficult present but can he find his future? I really enjoyed the chemistry these two characters have with one another and the twists in the story that kept me turning the pages. Great addition to the series, anxiously awaiting the next one.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
