Miles Family #2

Forbidden Miles

Rate this book
“Either I was seeing things, or Cooper was stalking down the aisle toward us. In his underwear. Nope, I wasn’t seeing things. It was my nightmare come true.”

Moving back to my family’s winery seemed like a good idea. I can save money, be closer to my family… But I forgot that when you’re the baby of the family—and your three older brothers are basically insane—life can get complicated.

Dating? Forget about it. I’m the forbidden one. There isn’t a bad boy in this town who’s bad enough to go after Brynn Miles. Not with my brothers acting like human chastity belts.

Finding love isn’t my focus anyway. Except… there’s this guy. And he’s kind of amazing. I didn’t see him coming, and it figures I’d fall for the one guy in the world I shouldn’t. He’s T-R-O-U-B-L-E. Untouchable. And just as forbidden as I am.

Am I ready to put my whole family on the line for a fiery case of lust? But what if it isn’t? What if it’s love?

**Each book in the Miles Family series ends with a romantic HEA, but there is an ongoing subplot that spans the entire series. Contains explicit language and content.**

Forbidden Miles is book two in the Miles Family series by Claire Kingsley. In the first book, Broken Miles, I fell in love with the Miles family. We met the oldest brother, Roland, and Zoe. But in this book, my love for this family grew. The way they are together, the way they love and support one another, even the way they fight. It’s all in the name of love. In this book, you will get to know the youngest sibling and only girl, Brynn. How would you like to be the baby of the family, with three older, very protective brothers, and try to date?

Brynn Miles has decided to move home. It’s not that far to commute to college every day and she will be better able to help her family with the winery, and save money at the same time. After she caught her boyfriend cheating, she has no interest in a relationship and is in a friends with benefits situation. Until her crazy brother Cooper finds out and chases him off.

In love ❤❤

Chase Reilly is Cooper’s roommate and best friend. They’ve been best friends since Kindergarten. Neither of them are interested in settling down and enjoy the single bachelor life. Chase has known Brynn since she was born. The Miles family has always been more of a home to him than his own home was. He always saw Brynn as Cooper’s annoying little sister. And as she grew older, he just didn’t notice her. She was always off limits. But then he saw her kissing some guy. And everything changed. He saw her! It was like he suddenly woke up! He couldn’t get her off his mind. He couldn’t figure out what in the world was happening. He couldn’t even look at another woman without feeling sick. No way could he tell Cooper. He was having fantasies about Cooper’s little sister. He’d kill him! He had no idea what he was going to do about this but it wasn’t going away.

As a little girl, Brynn had always had a huge crush on Chase. But he never noticed her. Now all of a sudden he keeps showing up. And then he kissed her. It was the best kiss of her life. What did this mean?

kiss

“Something inside her called to something deep inside of me. She’d awoken a need I hadn’t realized existed. Now that I was seeing her clearly, everything was coming into focus.”

I think that Chase and Brynn were just ready. The time was just right! Chase fell fast and hard. He knew Brynn was it for him. And he didn’t hesitate to let her know how he felt. Talk about sigh worthy or swoony! Chase had all the right words. The way he was with her was just so sweet. But Brynn’s older brothers didn’t quite agree that Brynn should be in a serious relationship with Chase. They saw Chase as the man he was, not as the man he now is with Brynn. If you read the first book, you are already familiar with the crazy they call Cooper. And in this book, Cooper is at his craziest. This guy is hilarious. But he loves Brynn and is not on the Chase loves Brynn team.

bonfire gif

I loved that Zoe, Roland’s now wife, is the one that both Chase and Brynn confide in. She is definitely on team Chase so I was so glad that they had her support. I admit I got a bit frustrated in the lack of support her family had for their relationship. But it didn’t deter these two at all. They knew what they had was special and weren’t going to let anyone change their minds.

I loved this book so much. I laughed a lot. I sighed a lot. I got angry too! I just can’t recommend this series enough. I haven’t read a book by Claire Kingsley yet that I haven’t loved. With this series, my love is growing with each book and I can’t wait to see what Claire has in store for us with the next book. So get those fingers moving and one click this series. I hope you’ll love it as much as I do.

2,5 stars but not 3

Well, bypassing Book 1, I started this series with Book 2, because Book 1 is a second chance romance between a divorced couple. Second chance romance and I are like oil and water, we don't mix well. So, instead of reading it and then bothering everyone with a long rant, I am just avoiding it.

Still, I need to say my word about it 😊😊😊

Actually, it is Book 3 I want to read but I needed to start somewhere to get to know the characters and I started with Book 2.

*********************************************
OK, here is my review on BOOK 2: Forbidden Miles
*********************************************

Despite being a very sweet and safe read, this was a very simple love story that fell flat for me.

- First of all, their romance begins all of a sudden – there is no emotional build-up. There was no banter, no push/pull, no build-up of sexual tension or no passion. I just couldn’t believe how fast everything happened.

- Chase sees Brian making out with a guy and realizes that he feels jealous. Until then, he never looked at her that way as she was his best friend Cooper’s little sister but he suddenly feels attracted to her.

- I was OK with Brian’s reaction when Chase said he wanted her as he was her teenage crush but Chase’s sudden, “Oh I want this girl more than anything in the world” was kinda funny and NOT convincing at all.

- Actually, I really hate it when someone suddenly realizes that the girl who has always been there is the one he wants. That's one of the tropes I hate. That's why "friends-to-lovers" books don't work for me and this felt kind of the same way. She was always there and she always had a crush on him but it took him a guy kiss her in front of him to realize he had a thing for her!

*********************************************

- As I said, everything happens in a rush. When Chase discovers he wants Bryan, he soon acts on his feelings. He kisses her and says he wants her but he points out that he will ask his friend’s approval first. However, Cooper discovers it before he does that and he is pissed. He is extremely against the idea of them dating.

- Cooper’s reaction doesn’t stop Bryan and Chase. In a matter of days, they are in bed and they start dating. A week later, they exchange “I love you”s. Three months later, he proposes to her and they are engaged.

And all that happens in the first half of the book!

*********************************************
And at 50% mark, I have lost all my interest in the book :(
*********************************************

- Cooper continues to act like a total as*hole for a long time. Even when they decide to get married, he refuses to talk to his best friend and he doesn’t approve their decision to marry. It takes a lot for him to be convinced that they are really in love and they will be happy together. But when he does, he is all in.

*********************************************

- The book is filled with mundane stuff such as daily chores. Bryan goes to school, she takes exams, she works with her brothers in their winery. Chase works in his mechanic shop, he helps Bryan with her car or he helps her to study her tests. They make love, they go to a restaurant, or they stay at home and watch a movie, eat pop corn…

Such stuff for pages and pages to fill the book.

*********************************************

- The second half of the book was a torture for me, especially after the proposal. Pages and pages of wedding preparations, choosing the dress, deciding on the cake and choosing flowers!

Pages and pages of it, really! WTH?

Oh, how much I will appreciate the short wedding scenes in the Epilogues from now on. They are the best.

What’s with writing pages of choosing flowers; “Oh should it be dandelions, or cala lilies or roses!” Are you kidding, for God’s sake? Do you think we care what flowers? Just describe the bride in the Epilogue with her dress and flowers if you like but not so many pages should be wasted on the decision.

- And as if she hasn't wasted enough pages with wedding preparations, the writer also wastes more pages with a stupid bachelor party.

*********************************************

- Then, the writer must have thought that amongst all that mundane stuff, she forgot to include a plot twist but she was too lazy to bother with an original idea so she chooses the cliché way. Oh, how original! I was so scared that they would be separated!

*********************************************

- Well, then there is this family drama caused by her father who cheated on her mother and made another family on the side with another woman and other children etc. There is the talk of it every now and then and he also comes and causes trouble towards the end of the book.

- I never understood why Chase’s parents were the way they were. Just born as cruel and selfish people, I guess.

- Another filler stuff is the pregnancy of the heroine of the first book. Her nausea, what she can eat, what she cannot eat, for how many months she pukes etc.

*********************************************

Writing:

- Dual point of view
- Dragging and boring
- Telling rather than showing

*********************************************

Safety:

- Very safe in my opinion
- No cheating and protection is used
- Minor OW/OM drama

*********************************************

All in all, the book was not awful but it was just tolerable for me so I read it without dropping it.

Thank God, Chase and Bryan are lovely characters and I loved them. Otherwise, I would have stopped reading it altogether.

What the ever loving fuck!!!!!!

She. Is. An. Adult!!!!!!!!

Who the fuck is a brother to decide what she can or can’t do? Or who she can f*** or not???

Specially a brother who is a happy bachelor himself who doesn’t wanna settle down???

Why is misogyny still acceptable? Or chauvinistic assholery?? This is 2018!!!

And no, this is NOT a review and unless the heroine drove her brother’s dates away and put him on abstinence, I don’t want to hear about how the book is so good and different only if I give it a go.

By the sound of it both the brother and hero are quite the manwhore.

"She’d chosen me. Moment after moment, day after day, no matter what had threatened to keep us apart, she’d chosen me."

Takes place in Echo Creek, a small town in the Cascade Mountains, where the Miles family owns a winery called Salishan Cellars.
This is a brother's best friend trope.

Characters
Chase (27, heavy machinery mechanic): he works hard, he plays hard and is happy and content with his life the way it is. Chase has been best friends with Cooper Miles since he was 5 and everyone thought Chase and Cooper were brothers. Deep down Chase wishes he was really part of the Miles family as he isn't really close with his real family. "I don't think they wanted kids." . 😥 Chase needs a big hug from me.

First impression of Chase: I was introduced to Chase in Book 1. He's the side-kick, best friend of Cooper Miles and the two guys were so much fun in the previous book. Chase seems to be an upbeat, positive, fun guy who is loyal to the Miles family. He just takes life as it comes and doesn't seem to stress over things.

Brynn (21, college junior, majoring in business): she is the baby of the Miles family and the only girl. With three older alpha brothers, to say she is "overprotected" would be an understatement. Brynn is sweet and caring and doesn't live a wild life but she craves for her family to see her as a grown up and quit treating her like she can't think for herself because she is too young. Bouncing back from an ex who cheated on her, she has decided to live at the family winery and commute to school.

First impression of Brynn: I was also introduced to Brynn in Book 1. She walked in on her college boyfriend getting busy with her college roommate and suffered all the hurt that goes with that type of betrayal. She is the baby of the family and is a bit frustrated that they can't see that she is no longer a little girl.

The Story
Chase honestly never thought of Brynn as anything except the younger sister of his best friend until he saw a grown-up Brynn having a make-out session with some guy in a cafe.
"When we were kids, she’d just been an annoying little girl. As she grew up, it was like she’d faded from my vision. Like she was translucent—insubstantial. I didn’t let myself see her because deep down, I knew she was the one girl on the planet I could never, ever touch. I’d instinctively created a shield around her that I couldn’t penetrate—couldn’t see through. Even the temptation of her wasn’t worth the risk. But looking at her now, with some dude in the back of Ray’s Diner, that shield shattered to pieces."

Brynn has actually had a crush on Chase for years.
"Sure, Chase was finger-licking sexy, but who carries around an unrequited crush on her brother’s best friend for years with zero encouragement from the guy? This girl, apparently."

Once they realized there was a mutual attraction, they didn’t rush jumping into bed together. Chase wanted to be upfront with Cooper about their feelings, but Cooper's out of town business trip delayed that conversation. So, they took some time to get to know one another in a more personal way. They spent time together just hanging out and doing normal, everyday things and had endless conversations and poured their hearts out to each other. I loved their slow build.

What I didn’t love was Cooper’s reaction once he found out. I knew he wasn’t going to be happy, but his pouting and silence was just childish and it lasted for 30% of the book. Argh 😠. Grace hit the nail on the head when she said he was having a "mantrum" (man-tantrum). Cooper was so fun in book 1 and I loved him. However, his childish ways were frustrating in this book and I didn't love him so much for awhile. Why couldn't he accept this? Chase is an awesome guy!!

Once he finally comes around and has his blanket-fort apology with Brynn 😍, he was back to the Cooper I loved. Whew.
"“Just promise me something.”
"What?”
He looked me in the eyes, his expression serious. “Take good care of him for me.”
.
Awwww 💞💞 😥 (see....Cooper really does love his best friend).

I fell even more in love with Chase in this book. There was a sadness in him regarding his lack of love from his blood family and I'm so glad Brynn was there to smother him in the love he so desperately craved.
"I spent my whole life knowing my parents didn’t really want me. Do you know what that does to a guy? That fucked me up. But now I have someone who wants me—who chose me. I’d do anything for her. And the craziest part? She’d do anything for me. When you find that, you can’t let it go.”

Meanwhile.....exciting things are happening for Roland and Zoe from Book 1

And.....Leave it to Cooper to plan an unusual bachelorette party.
"And why’d you take off your dick necklace?”
Leo crossed his arms. “I’m not wearing a dick necklace.”
"Pansy,” Roland said. “I’m wearing a dick necklace.”
"You are a dick necklace,” Leo fired back."
😂Oh these brothers 😂❤️

Overall
Book 2 of the series was an enjoyable read. It wasn't as fun and upbeat as Book 1 and it was hard to see Chase and Cooper at odds after the bond I witnessed in the previous book. The story moved along well with no drama from outsiders until the last portion of the book. Then a couple red herrings were thrown in. One resolved (rather anticlimactically) and the other item will be addressed in future books. So far, this entire family has been very enjoyable to get to know and I'm really looking forward to reading Cooper's story next.

- Do you need to read previous books in series?: Yes. Although this is the standalone love story for Chase & Brynn, their characters were really introduced with some depth in book 1. Also, there are overarching family issues revealed in book 1 that continue in this book.
- POV: told from dual POV
- H likable? Yes
- h likable? Yes
- h virgin? No
- First time they kiss: 15%
- First time they sleep together: 40%
- OW/OM drama? Kind of. Chase has a clinger ex fling. She is silent for most of the book, then reappears at the 75% mark to cause trouble. The issue was quickly resolved.
- H/h cheat? No
- Steamy? Yes
- Did I skip pages? No
- How the book made me feel: this book was a little heavy because Cooper and Chase's relationship was strained. So the fun guys from book 1 were pretty much absent from book 2 😕
- Big secrets? No
- Did I cry? No
- Cliffhanger? Not really. An unresolved item with the dad, but Chase & Bryn's story wrapped up by the end of the book
- How it ends:
- Recommend? Yes.

Quotes
"Jesus, what was my problem? That was Cooper’s Brynncess. I couldn’t sit here and wonder what she smelled like. If Cooper knew I was thinking about how his sister smelled, he’d kick my ass."

"She’d been dating some guy at school last year, but he’d cheated on her. Cooper and their other brother, Leo, had put the guy’s face on a bunch of STD awareness posters. Then Cooper and I had blanketed the campus with them." 😂😂

“You’re telling me some guy was making out with my Brynncess in the middle of Ray’s Diner?”
“Let’s go.” He grabbed his keys.
“Cooper, you’re not wearing any pants.” He was already out the door.
"I don’t have time for pants.”

"I’d whacked it to Brynn fantasies way more than was healthy. I just hoped the whole going blind thing really was an old wives’ tale. Because if it wasn’t, I could kiss my vision goodbye."

"I can’t imagine anything better than getting to spend the rest of my life with her.”"

"I just laughed. What else can you do when your crazy brother just announced he baked you a penis cake?"

“Isn’t it exhausting to carry that ego around with you all the time?” Leo asked.
"Nope,” Cooper said. “That’s why I work out.”

I just have to stop. This book is horrible.

The story of forbidden romance with brother's best friend is usually comes either with comedy or angst. Forbidden Miles have nothing. There is no strong based of conflict in this book.

Heck, even the chemistry between Brynn and Chase is so fast that I missed it even without blinking. Putting insta into another level. There is not much chemistry between the characters. And even worse is how dumb is Chase. He said he is in love with Brynn and yet can not figure out why Brynn rejected his marriage proposal in the first place.

Cooper is also not helping. The author done nothing to Cooper character for me to even like him.

Overall this book is such disappointment.

Having 3 older (VERY) protective brothers, I can easily understand & sympathize with the heroine in this story! No matter how old (and especially if you come from a close Greek family like myself) and are the baby and sole girl in the family, brothers getting in your “business” is just part of life and I wouldn’t change mine for anything in the world – even though I wanted to kill them a time or two – or a thousand! 👿

That being said, I liked this story. It was sweet, funny & entertaining. Chase & Brynn made a cute couple. They had grown up together and while Chase never saw Brynn as anything but his bf’s sister, that all changed when he saw her again when she returned home from college. Brynn on the other hand, had a crush on him when she was younger but grew out of it when she went to college.
As some folk stated, this is the same trope we read about over & over again, but I really liked this one because for some reason it was a bit different and likable - if that makes sense? Cooper, her older brother, and the obsessive way he felt & protected her, didn’t bother me at all because I got him (it stems with Father issues), nor did I mind the double standards or the overprotective-brother trope because it happens people when you have older brothers! I would rather have overprotective brothers who drive me crazy at every turn and get into my business, then ones who don’t give a shit! Just saying…..

Safety:

HEA: Yes and it’s so sweet & cute!

Just a taste of the forbidden fruit lead to love...

Does forbidden fruit taste sweeter? If you asked Chase, the main character in Forbidden Miles, I would guess he'd say that forbidden fruit is surprisingly sweet. I completely understood and nodded my head in agreement when he claimed to not have seen Brynn in the many years they've known each other. For starters, they met when Brynn was a baby and knew each other because of Chase's friendship with her brother, Cooper. You're not supposed to notice your best friends little sister's beauty. It's written in a rule book somewhere, I'm sure. But, Brynn grew up, Chase started to mature...then...BOOM!!

WHEN DID MY BEST FRIEND'S LITTLE SISTER GET HOT?!?!?

I absolutely loved Chase's discombobulation when he finally sees Brynn. At first, he's convinced that it was a trick of his senses. Then, after confirming that his senses are working very well, he realises what he's feeling is like nothing he's ever felt before. Chase is not willing to mess around with what he's feeling. He's all in and nothing, including his best friend, will stop him from having Brynn in his life. To be honest, this was the best and worst part of the story. For 75% of the story, 'LOVE' was just a word. Eventually, love becomes more than a word and their feelings for each other really shone through.

Funny thing...when Hubby and I were younguns in love, we were all about the I LOVE YOU'S. We couldn't seem to help ourselves and loved saying it to each other. We still say it a lot...well, maybe not a lot-lot, but more than once in a blue moon, but back then, it was excessive. Now, that I'm older, I read all the devotions of love and I roll my eyes. I guess the old me is rolling my eyes at the young me.

Anyways, Forbidden Miles was pretty good and I loved catching up with the Miles Family again. Brynn's dad is still an absolute DOUCHEWAFFLE!! His latest stunt is probably going to put him in the douchewaffle category FOREVER. Can't say I'm a huge fan of Chase's parents either, to be honest. Luckily, Shannon, Brynn's mother, is the shining light in parenting. She makes up for all those lacking in this series.

Mostly, this is a sweet and sexy contemporary romance. There's not a lot of angst, and when there was a bit, it was not OTT or too frustrating. Luckily, common sense prevailed and most of the issues fixed themselves with a wee bit of communication.

I'm a confirmed Claire Kingsley fan and I will definitely be back for more in this series. I'm excited about Cooper's story but I can't wait for Leo's.

The Miles family saga continues in this second installment. I was a little bored, but I loved Chase and Brynn. If I was bored why did or do I continue to read you ask? Well, there is so much going on with other Miles family members that I am compelled to continue with this series. I am really curious about Leo Miles and the fate of the winery, but I think I have to read Cooper Miles' story first and Cooper's narratives are exhausting. I really don't want to read his stream of consciousness while he is having sex.

description

I would recommend this to anyone who has just read an emotionally draining story. It is sweet and light without any big twists or reveals. There is one twist that is predictable but the heroine handled it like a champ, especially for her age. Her words and actions were beyond mature.

Best Friend’s Sister Romance/Brother’s Best Friend

Forbidden Miles is a fun, quick, and sweet romance! This book is low on drama, high on romance, and so damn charming that I was smiling from beginning to end. I love a brother’s best friend/ best friends sister romance and this one had it all! Chase and Brynn were so sweet together and I swooned the second they said I Love You. You could just feel it, you know? The chemistry was there, and it felt so authentic. I think this is because the two have known each other their entire lives. Now, it was a little quick and I wish there were a bit buildup more in terms of them “growing” together as a couple, but it worked, and I enjoyed it immensely. I actually read this in one sitting because of how immersed I was in their story.

That being said, this is a great addition to the series, and I am so excited to read Cooper’s story next! He’s a secondary character in this book and the previous one and is so funny! I can’t wait to see what kind of shenanigans his love story entails. I hope it’s hilarious because he’s been built up like this!

If you’re new to the series I recommend reading these books in order. There’s a bit of a backstory that flows through each of the books and if you read them out of order it won’t make sense. The good thing is that these books aren’t super long (around 300 pages) and you can read them fairly quickly!

A solid 3+ stars. Mucho mejor than the snoozer Broken Miles, but not as much fun as the frenetic charm of Cooper in Reckless Miles. Sorry no links to the books as my GR link thing does not appear to be functioning.

Anyhoo, this is Brynn and Chase's story. Up until now, the real romance/bromance was between Cooper, Brynn's crazy and doting older brother, and Chase. Now Brynn or Bryncess as Coop calls her has stuck herself in where Cooper doesn't think she belongs. The real tension in the story is the family and Cooper's resistance to the romance. Realistic in a way as the heroine and hero are pretty young, but so what.

The family's horrible, no good, worthless father makes a brief appearance, and I'm waiting as much for what I hope is his epic smackdown as I am poor Leo's story.

Thumbs up.

So this book is not only about a wonderful relationship that was meant to be but in my opinion, this is all about the connection of a family. But let’s get back to this amazing love that blossoms between Brynn and Chase. Indeed they were made to be together but while Brynn has had a long time crush on him, Chase instead just didn’t look her way because she was definitely off limits. Once he caught her making out in a diner with a random guy something clicked inside him and he decided to go with the flow. Chase is absolutely irresistible, not that Brynn was hard to convince. He is that sort of man every woman dreams about; loving, caring, attentive at his woman’s needs in a few words he is the whole package. This book is a crescendo of their love that will culminate with their wedding. In between, I enjoyed reading about Cooper’s usual goofy way of behaving, Zoe’s fluctuating pregnancy and obviously the rest of the troop that won’t delude the reader’s expectations. Why did I love this book so much? I love the bond between the members of this particular family because although they are having a hard time with their problems they always seem to find a way to come together.

Oh man, this is the sweetest more adorable Miles book yet!

Brother's BFF stories are hit or miss for me. I mean, why in gods name do guys think someone they've been friends with would be such a horrible person to date their sister? I don't pretend to understand bro-code but that one's always baffled me. I mean, if you're friends with someone you don't like enough to think they'd be bad for your little sister then why on earth are you friends with them? Like maybe YOU need to look at yourself a bit eh? BUT this book? Totally a hit!

I saw another reviewer (who hadn't actually read it) give it a scathing "non-review" because of the "Brothers BFF Trope" thing. Uh, well - alright crazy pants, first of all, why are you ranting about something you haven't even read? HAD she READ the book she'd have seen it was romantic beyond words, sweet and just left you with the biggest smile on your face. Or maybe not, she seemed pretty bitter and angry with the world.

Cooper appears in book 1, Broken Miles and I fell for him then. His family is going through a shit show right now and I think his (initial) utter fury over his BFF (whom I love LOVE LOVE) Chase falling for his little sister Brynn has more to do with feeling like everything he thought he knew is just a big ball of chaos. A cute, brothers best friend and age gap romance but a bit too insta-lovey for my taste. I did like the connection to the first two books in the Bailey series. Was pleasantly surprised with how spicy it was (compared to the Bailey series that is sweet and fluffy). The FMC’s brother being that upset over his best friend and younger sister dating and being childish, got old fast. Grow up; they are two consenting adults.

3 stars. Claire’s books are a fun palate cleanser, but nothing that wows me or stands out to me.

If it's "Forbidden," sign me up!!! Cooper is FREAKEN hilarious 😂😂😂😂

I adore this series. The second I finished Broken Miles, I was ready for more from the Miles family!
It was sexy and fun, and it made me laugh and swoon... but it was also so much more. It was the story of a hero who never felt good enough and the heroine who recognized and showed him just how amazing he was. It told the story of two people who recognized such greatness and love in one another that they were willing to fight for each other. It broke my heart at times and filled me with hope and joy at others. It was beautiful. I felt like we saw them fall in love all at once and slowly over time. Their connection ran deep and couldn’t be denied, but it also grew naturally.

“Goddammit, Chase, you’re making my eyes leak again. You really need to stop doing that. If we get caught like this, people are going to question our sexuality. They probably already do, by the way. Brynn and I look a lot alike. They’re going to assume you’re with her to alleviate your homoerotic fantasies about me.” (Cooper) 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣

“That’s exactly why I’m with her. Although I don’t know why I’m bothering you. I could legally marry you in this state, so there’s no need for the ruse. Oh wait, I don’t like dick. Never mind.” (Chase)

This is a book (and series) you want in your life. There were times I laughed so hard my eyes filled with tears, and there were times my heart felt as though it may break apart. Through it all, there was unshakable love. This story will touch your heart and leave you anxious for more.

**Brother's best friend
**H older/h younger
**Childhood friends to lovers 💕

Oh my goodness - I absolutely adored Chase and Bryan’s story; they were so perfect together.
Claire Kingsleys writing is so addictive - this whole world she has created is so wonderful it makes you never want to leave. I also love that we see characters from the Bailey Brothers series (which happens to be one of my all-time favourites)
This “brothers-best friend” romance had all the swoony moments, a touch of drama, and a lot of comedy (particularly in the shape of Cooper - I can’t wait to read his story next!)

Book Two of the Miles Family Series. Now, out of the entire series, this one is probably my favorite. I absolutely adore Chase… in every single possible way.

This forbidden best friends sister romance is seriously so sweet that I want to read it every chance I get. Chase and Brynn and probably my favorite couple, but not by much because all of the Miles family hold a very special place in my heart.

Chase is everything I love in a man. He is sweet, and attentive, and caring. And he loves Beauty and the Beast. He is perfection. But that doesn’t mean he’s always that way, but he will definitely make you swoon in all the right ways. And we have Brynn is seriously so freaking sweet. I love her as a heroine. And I love that Chase is the guy for her.

I definitely connected to these characters in a way that had me wanting everything good for them. They deserved it. Even with the odds against them, the fight they put forward is beautiful and emotional.

If you love a good forbidden best friends sister romance, then this the book for you… but if you haven’t read any of the Miles Family, start with Broken Miles. These are worth the read, I promise!

Five stars for this super sweet emotional romance that has you feeling all the things by the time it is all said and done.

Small Town

First up, I hate it in semi-realistic romance books when a couple have sex for the first time and it's missionary position and she orgasms almost instantly from penetration alone and they both think it was the best sex in the world ever. (Insert eye roll). I am so over it!
Brynn and Chase were both likeable characters- Chase is particularly funny when he almost immediately realises he's completely smitten by Brynn who he has gone out of his way not to notice that way before, having known her since she was a little kid. Unfortunately, the couple got together almost immediately (as in the book felt over by 40%) then the main tension in the book is her brother, Cooper, being a grump about his mate dating his sister, which, grow up. Given that he and Chase were the main comedic tension in the first book in the series, it was disappointing that his character didn't really shine.

Audiobook Review
Overall 3.5 stars
Performance 3.5-4 stars
Story 3 stars

This was an entertaining brother's best friend romance featuring Brynn Miles and Chase Reilly. This trope is always hit and miss for me, but I was intrigued enough by Brynn and Chase after meeting them in Broken Miles to give it a shot. There's quite a bit of instalove going on in this story and I will admit that I would have enjoyed more build up between these two. I know that they have known each other pretty much their whole lives, but the switch was a little too abrupt for me. Brynn and Chase did have great chemistry though and I enjoyed catching up with the entire Miles family again, especially Roland and Zoe. I did miss Cooper's antics though, since he's absent from a good majority of the book thanks to his feelings regarding Chase and Brynn's relationship. There's some predictable drama involving an OW, but it was resolved just as quickly as it began, and I liked how the plot involving Mr. Miles continues to unfold.

Overall, I enjoyed Vikas Adam and Ava Erickson's narration as Chase and Brynn. I did feel like sometimes Vikas Adam sort of overacted some of the scenes though and it made him come across as too phony. His female voices were also a little too forced for me. I liked Ava Erickson's chapters a lot more, but this was still an enjoyable audiobook and I'm invested in the Miles family and can't wait to listen to the rest.

Chase (MMC) and (Brynn)

I just read another "brother's best friend" book before this one and WOW! Forbidden Miles is a good example of how it should be done 👏 👏 👏

BBF is not my favorite trope as I don't usually feel that the tension and obstacles between the MC's is justified - after all, it's just 2 adults of consenting age (who have often known each other for ages) who organically feel attracted towards each other in adulthood.

However, I enjoyed the ride and the developing relationship in this story, as Chase and Brynn get to know each other better and overcome different obstacles as a team. They get together halfway through the book, and it's interesting to see how they move forward from there, get engaged, plan their future, etc.

I also enjoyed reading about the wedding preparations, but the " Mantrum" (man tantrum) that her brother Cooper had (when he found out about Cooper and Brynns engagement) dragged on and just made me as a reader feel annoying with him. If I had been Brynn, I would've just frozen him out until he apologized and came around, as it is very patronizing and arrogant for him to be against the wedding, after the rest of the family (including their mother) had given their blessing. I understand that CK wanted us readers to become more acquainted with Cooper to prepare him as the MMC for the next book, but where I before thought about him as charming, at that point now I saw him as overstepping and somewhat annoying 😤😤😤. Thank goodness he redeems himself in the end. Cooper reminds me of Logan in the Bailey Brothers series, as he's also an extrovert, confident, hilarious character, whom I can't her to read more about in the next installment.

In conclusion, this book is a step up from the previous one,'Broken Miles' . It has so much heart that it reminds me of her Bailey Brother's series, which is my absolute favorite ❤️. Most times, reading a CK novel feels like wearing your favorite piece of worn clothes that you know is going to make you feel both comfy and cozy. I adore this about her books. There's something so special in CK's writing, imo.

Happy reading! 📚

And continuing on with the second book in the Miles Family series by an author I’m loving to pieces, we come to the story of Chase and Brynn. Chase is the roommate and best friend of Cooper and together the two of them are a hoot. I’m chuckling and smiling every time they are on the page. Chase owns his own business fixing machines but a lot of the work comes from working at the winery Coopers family owns.

Brynn is Coopers little sister and to say Cooper is overprotective is lighter than even putting it mildly. There’s a hilarious scene at the beginning of the book when Chase is talking to Cooper on his cell and inadvertently tells Cooper that he’s at a restaurant and sees Brynn making out with some guy in the back booth. Cooper doesn’t even stop to put on pants before he heads over to put a stop to this, oh yes he does.

Brynn has always had a crush on her brothers best friend but it totally aware that Chase only sees her as Coopers little sister.

Until one day he doesn’t.

Nope, Chase has had his eyes opened and he’s sees her as a grown and beautiful woman. A woman he slowly gets to know and falls in love with. But with Cooper being Cooper, he knows things aren’t going to go well. And when Cooper does find out, Chase was right. It does not go well at all.

I am so, so glad I found Claire Kingsley. I’m thinking I say this in every review I’ve done but it’s true. Her books just make me smile and every one has given me the warm and fuzzies and ever so glad I read romance. They are the sunny sunny sky on a gloomy day and anyone reading this simply has to give her books a try.

This is my second standalone book by Clair Kingsley. I read and very much enjoyed her series with Lyc Score, Bootleg Springs. However, there is something missing in this series for me. They are very easy to read. Sex scenes are hot and all but the pace is fast, and the break up or angst is not as heavy as it is in other books which makes the scenario not as believable if that makes sense? Because the pace is fast, I have had a hard time connecting with everyone.

This is about Brynn and Chase. Chase is Brynn's brother's best friend. They have always been in each other's lives. Chase claims the reason he has never noticed her is because she is Cooper's little sister. But somehow he really sees her when she is at a diner making out with her fling. Chase is weirded out by his feelings. Him and Cooper have lived together for a while and have the wing man one night stand situation down pat. Brynn is caught off guard when Chase kisses her and then disappears. She doesn't know what to think. They have only ever made conversation with each other and now he kisses her? What does that mean?

Their romance spirals in the best way very fast. They go from exploring each other's bodies to discussing forever. Chase falls HARD first. When Cooper finds out, his reaction is terrible. Even though Chase is his best friend he has no trust in his track record. He gives him no chance to explain. Their relationship is not mended until the end.

This was just a little too fast paced for me. Don't get me wrong, I love that the spicy scenes happened early and throughout the book, but it didn't jive with the overall picture in my opinion.

I however will keep reading because I do like Cooper. He is just eccentric enough for me. His book is next in the series!

We’ve all probably seen the ice-burg meme comparing books to movies. And that is the reason why I love reading so much. I love knowing what the character is feelings, their inner most thoughts, the internal monologue, it’s like a glimpse into their mind. Getting to know them at a deeper level that we cannot while watching a movie.

This book had a good story line, quirky characters but it felt like a movie. Internal monologue is supposed to give readers a window into the characters mind, but this was more like what they were thinking right than and there. The book felt a little bland. When the H/h start to get feelings for each other, we don’t know how or why it happens. It just happens without much of an explanation.

So I don’t get the over 4 star rating. This is my second book of the series and also by this author and I’m sort of over it.

Forbidden Miles brings us to Brynn, the youngest out of the family and the only girl. Brynn has had a long time crush on her brother Cooper’s best friend but pushed that aside when she knew nothing would ever come of it. Until one day when her brother Cooper pushes her too far, no thanks to Chase, and life changes forever.

Chase knew he could never show interest in his best friend’s sister so he just looked right through Brynn for years. The town playboy, with his buddy Cooper, who doesn’t do relationships, love or has even thought of marriage. Until one day, he notices the girl he’s known forever has grown up into a stunning woman whom he wants to get to know better. And when Brynn’s secret is spilled at his feet, Chase knows that it’s time to take that chance.

I cannot even begin to tell you about the relationship between Chase and Brynn! It was so unbelievably sexy, refreshing, fun, loving, caring, and so precious because they both knew what they had with one another. They were open and honest with themselves from the beginning and knew what they have is something once in a lifetime. And can we talk about their first kiss? WHOA...no words. Swoon worthy for sure!

But when the outside world comes banging on their door, will they be able to trust in one another to pull through?

Forbidden Miles is a wonderfully written friends to lovers romance that is also so much more than a story about a relationship between a man and a woman, it’s the story of family. Family that is not defined by blood, but by people who welcome friends as their family. Family that comes together, through some of the hardest times, to celebrate the happy moments and the one thing that bonds them all together is love.

Five stars doesn’t even begin to do this book justice. You know those books that you love so much you go back to them time and time again for a re-read? This is one of them. Claire Kingsley has a way of writing that makes you feel like you are just right there alongside the characters in the story and Forbidden Miles was no exception. I enjoyed every moment right along with the Miles Family <3

I have a crazy love for brother's best friend. Or is it best friend's little sister?

Either way, if you love the trope, you'll love Forbidden Miles.

We met Chase and Brynn in Broken Miles. Brynn is the baby sister of Roland, Leo, and Cooper.
Chase is Cooper's best friend.

You see where this is going, right?!

But you don't! Because this is so sweet and fun and real! It's just the perfect Claire Kingsley. It's everything you want when you want a light, sweet, sexy romance.

This is one of those books that once you start you don’t want to put down!

Chase has been best friends with Cooper since Kindergarten, they live together, they drink together, and they pick up women together! That is until one evening Chase is sat in a diner and sees a couple making out in a booth, he doesn’t pay much attention until he realises its Coopers sister Brynn and he feels something he has never felt before - jealousy!

Brynn is moving back home, into one of the cottages on the winery. She is furious with her brother and Chase for what they did to her date in the diner, and when she arrives home and finds Chase checking over her car she loses it big time! Chase tries to defend himself but Brynn won’t listen so he just kisses her!

They end up spend most of the following week together, and are making out on the couch when Cooper walks in and all hell breaks loose! Cooper stops talking to them both, and as the months drag on Chase and Brynn get closer, and fall in love!

Although it’s hard on both of them they decide to stay together and hope Cooper eventually accepts their relationship. What follows is beautiful story of love, commitment and true friendship.
