After the sudden death of her husband a year ago, Norma Tate Cummings is still learning how to manage it all: her children, her farm, and her sanity. Finally realizing that she cannot do it all alone, she does the unthinkable: she hires ex-convict, Clyde Halpern. When a body is unearthed on her land, Norma and Clyde find themselves unexpectedly immersed in a mystery from the past that threatens both of their futures. Together, Norma and Clyde learn that to get to the road of peace, you may just have to go through the fire.
I still remember the exact day I fell in love with reading. It was nighttime and raining. Mom and Dad had already sent me and my sister to bed. But I couldn't sleep. We didn't have cable (and I'm pretty sure the parents wouldn't allow it) and cartoons were over for the day. I remember turning on the light, looking across the room at my snoring sister and then at my bookcase filled with books. I wasn't a reader at the time, but my mother was. She was constantly buying me something. I walked over to the bookshelf and pulled my newest book off the shelf and just began to read. For the first time, I learned what it was to leave my room and go someplace else; to care about imaginary people so much, I had to turn the next page; to get so caught up in a story, hours flew by. And it is that exact feeling that I want so much to create in my readers. Enjoyment, entertainment, and feeling blessed.
Each Book about a Tate Family Member tells its own special story while blending the family as a whole together. I Loved, Loved, Loved Reading This Series!! Please continue To add more stories to the Tate Family Legacy! I am a Huge Fan of Your Stories!! Be Blessed!!!!
I'm so glad to have discovered this author. Just like the other books I have read by her, this one is also rich in the historical realities that African Americans have lived through in the South. The themes of family, friendship and faith are the light of hope that shine no matter the darkness of the times. It was great to see Clyde again and to catch up a little bit on some of the other characters from before. I am left more curious about the other members of the Tate family. I found myself intrigued at the unfolding mystery, hard hit by the hardships, but so chugging at the banter between the characters. This author really writes character dialogue so well. It is one of the most enjoyable aspects of reading her books. Worth a read!!
I'm so glad Clyde got his HEA, and Norma didn't let a second chance pass her by. This was another suspense and drama filled story, with a much needed sweet romance holding it all together. We had a few sad parts, but Clyde and his very blunt way of communicating more than leveled everything out. The way he was able to blend in with the family, especially CJ, was nice to see. He deserved that, and they deserved his love and protection too. The ending was perfect, the epilogue was perfect, not a thing was missing. I will however stay hopeful that we aren't done with the Tate family just yet.

So this series was my first time reading Embassie Susberry and I am in love with her writing style! Literally! I loved the Tate family and, even though I tend to like my books spicy) nothing was taken away from these books without it. I loved so much how the presence of the Lord permeated the whole series and so much wisdom and suspense and surprise and satisfaction were weaved throughout. I am a fan of this author off of this series and I adored this book as well as the three that came before it! Excellent read! 😊
I had to wait to finish the final book to say thank you. This series was amazing, beautiful, suspenseful, heartbreaking, and everything in between. Thank you for allowing me as the reader to feel all of the emotions of each character. I will be thinking about the Tate family and friends a long time.
Norma and Clydes love story was so sweet. A true second chance love story. I loved how developed the characters were I felt like I knew them. I’m just sorry that the series has come to an end.
Enjoyed this completely tight family (Tate) with all their flaws, mistakes, family secrets and devotion to each other. Clyde dry humor and serious dysfunctional family past, helped Norma deal with her betrayed dead husband's lies and secrets. Loved it!
Yes, I have enjoyed all four of the Tate books and they were truly amazing and excellent to read. My friends and family will get a kick out of reading this series.
This was a good way to end this story to and I love the mystery and time period the book takes place. I hope we could hear from the youngest siblings in the future.
