Re read March 2023

I dare say I loved this one a bit more than book one just because we see Roarke and Eve more established as a couple. I also loved the way Roarke handle those relationship bumps with Eve. He gives her place, treats her as an equal and respects her profession and still maintains his alpha male status.

The mystery part is always a plus and Eve is a fantastic detective always so through. I wasn’t really surprised by the killer but I enjoyed how it was played. Looking forward to the next Eve and Roarke adventure.♥️

Even the re-reads are so great. 🙂🙂🙂 I just love Eve & Roarke sooooo much. ❤❤❤
-----------

I'm cheating my husband with ROARKE. Yeah yeah, I'm in too much trouble. :D God dammit Roarke. Why are you so cute? :)

“I love you, Eve.” She looked away from the sun, the ocean, and into his eyes. And it was wonderful, and for the moment, it was simple.
“I missed you.” She pressed her cheek to his and held him tightly. “I really missed you. I wore one of your shirts.” She could laugh at herself now because he was here. She could smell him, touch him. “I actually went into your closet and stole one of your shirts—one of the black silk ones you have dozens of. I put it on, then snuck out of the house like a thief so Summerset wouldn’t catch me.”
Absurdly touched, he nuzzled her neck. “At night, I’d play your transmissions over, just so I could look at you, hear your voice.”
“Really?” She giggled, a rare sound from her. “God, Roarke, we’ve gotten so sappy.”
“We’ll keep it our little secret.”
“Deal.”

Murder Mystery set in the future with the best alpha male love interest ever? Yes please! I'll take 43 of them (holy crap this series has a lot of books!). And, while you are at it, I have a list of items that I would like from these books:

1. AutoChef - cooks my food for me. I need this like I need chocolate.
2. Flying cars/hovering cars/self-driving cars. One of each, please.
3. Floating mattress with vibrations and gentle movements.
4. Bedroom droid that keeps my room clean.
5. Body dryer in my shower.
6. A ride on a tourist blimp.
7. A feline droid because I might actually like a robot cat.
8. And of course a hover board. And don't try to tell me that we already have hoverboards, because those things don't actually hover. It's a board of lies.

Get back to work, Science!

So the mystery in this book is figuring out who is killing famous women. I have to say that even though the killer was on my suspect list, he was not in the number one position, so that made me happy. On the other hand, the reason he wasn't in the number one position was because it seemed a little too convenient if it was him. But still, it was a good mystery and I was thoroughly entertained.

But, as I mentioned in my first review, these books were written a long time ago, so there are a few things that you can't help but notice. In this one, I had to laugh at the occasionally cheesy lines that Eve would throw out there as a cop. I really had to wonder if the show CSI got some ideas from this book. Here's what I mean:

Cop to Eve:"She's pretty famous."
Eve to cop: "Now she's pretty dead."
......

Eve, upon noticing the dead woman's flashy outfit: "All dressed up and no place to go."

The thing about reading an older book, though, is that I expect some of this kind of stuff, so I'm a lot more tolerant and can just chuckle over them. But, I definitely heard the "yeeaaah!" in my head.

Along with the mystery component, we have a pretty delicious romance going on between Eve and Roarke. Roarke is a guy who is a bit mysterious, a lot rich, and has tons of hotness. He sees something in Eve that frankly I'm not even seeing. She's cold to him, rude often, has a mediocre appearance, and got mad at him for buying her a giant diamond. Really, Eve? A giant diamond necklace makes you angry? Well, that makes me angry! This guy's so rich that he could buy you a damn diamond mine. Just accept the gift and say "thank you"! Or, better yet, send me the diamond necklace. And, the hot man who wants to shower you in gifts, luxury, and sex. Fucking ingrate!

Some people just don't know how to accept gifts!

All in all, this series is a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to reading the next 40 books. My eyeballs may fall out afterwards, but it will be worth it.

Glory in Death is the second book in the In Death series, a series I’ve only just begun and I’m so pleased I did. Lieutenant Eve Dallas is on a case involving the violent and savage murders of two successful women.

It takes no time at all for Eve to find out there are a few connections between the two victims, but what Eve didn’t see coming was someone close to her will be on the list of suspects.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but this book was better than the first and something tells me the third one will be a cracker of a read. If you’re looking for a fast paced, intriguing and thrilling series, then look no further as this series is for you. I loved this book and can’t wait to get my hands on the book. Highly recommended.

I love detective Eve Dallas and billionaire Irish boyfriend Roarke more with every book in this series. In this second book, Eve is assigned to investigate the murder of the DA. Complicating things is the fact that her supervisor was close to the DA, and knew her family and kids. He tells Eve he won’t interfere, but we all know how that goes, LOL. This had a great mix of police procedural and interpersonal politics. I liked how we got a bit more of Eve’s backstory and saw her and Roarke’s relationship develop, too. I like the side characters in this one. I love a good mystery/police procedural and the side character stories plus the ongoing romance make this one really great besides. Great pacing and a fun mystery to figure out in each book.

Original read/review:

5 stars – Romantic Suspense

Okay, I think I'm officially hooked on this series. After reading and loving Naked in Death, I immediately jumped right into reading this, and it's another great book in an addictive series.

I find the futuristic elements interesting, but I like that it's not too distracting to the story and characters. Lieutenant Eve Dallas is a complex character who I sort of feel a love/hate relationship towards because her toughness, dedication to justice, and devotion to representing the victim are admirable, but she also drives me nuts, particularly her reluctance with Roarke. Ahhh Roarke...*sigh*...not since my deep love/lust reaction to Bones in Halfway to the Grave have I been so quickly infatuated with a romance hero. I can see now why there are so many books in this series, because I don't think there could ever be too much of Roarke! 5 stars!

This series is every bit as good second time around as it was the first and this particular book is one of the best ones. Eve and Rourke are at the beginning of their relationship and Eve is fighting it every inch of the way. Tissues are a required accompaniment to chapter nine. Peabody appears for the first time. Roarke does his very macho thing to protect his woman. All good in the land of 'In Death'. Love it:)

Opening Line: "The dead were her business."

I originally started JD Robb’s In Death series because it was recommended to me by well… everyone. And Yes it is good. In fact I ended up liking this 2nd instalment even more then the first, however (except for Roarke) I don't totally love it either. The writing is top notch and Robb spins an easy to read, dark mystery filled with lots of interesting suspects(including Roarke again.) But I’m just not a fan of the police procedurals and therefore large parts of this book dragged for me. Particularly when Eve very dryly and very frequently interrogated the many suspects (these parts read like furniture assembly instructions) and in the end I couldn’t have cared less about whodunit. I was reading strictly for the romance and a certain someone named Roarke.

Sigh… Irish lilting, button carrying, patient, unwaveringly romantic, sexy, mystery man Roarke. If only he existed in the real world. Yes I have developed a serious literary crush on him and he’s what keeps me coming back to this series. I love how he is tough yet tender with Eve while accepting her unconditionally just the way she is.

Speaking of Eve, although I still find her character very difficult to like she does soften here some, allowing herself to gradually except the little pockets of peace Roarke creates for her. I’m also beginning to realize that Roarke is equally as damaged as Eve and that’s what draws the two of them together, making their developing relationship worth watching. One of my favourite parts of this book would be the afterwards of an explosive confrontation when Eve finally, finally lets Roarke in. (Well that and their little moonlit trip to casa del Roarke in Mexico)

The future aspect (its New York 2058) which I found unnecessary and gimmicky in the first book has been expanded slightly and while not distracting it does provide an interesting aspect that I enjoyed this time. (I really want an Autochef) There are also some great secondary characters here; and I particularly liked Eve’s troublesome relationship with Roarke’s man-servant Summerset and her wild, no excuses nightclub singing girlfriend Mavis.

GLORY IN DEATH sees Lieutenant Eve Dallas searching for a serial killer of prominent career women. Eve follows the clues and interrogates a lot of suspects, getting her thick skin bruised in the process. As the clues take her closer to those she cares about like Roarke and her boss, Eve becomes relentless in her search for the killer, putting everything else secondary. Its Roarke who sees how tired and overworked she is and forces her to step back and recharge (in his spa tub!) In the end everyone’s bloody, the killers caught (I never did guess that one but then again I wasn’t really trying) and damn if Roarke hasn’t set things up so I just have to read the next book Immortal in Death. Cheers!

What can I say? This is pretty much a picture-perfect formula. A big dash of romance with a perfectly rich man, a murder mystery with a normal police procedural plot, and a tiny, tiny sprinkle of mild futuristic SF.

There's so little SF, as a matter of fact, that I hesitate to even mention it. It's really just a regular formula. Mindless? Yes. Easy? Yes.

Still fun, for all of that?

Sure. I didn't want anything mind-blowing. It was okay.

Book two in the In Death series and I enjoyed it more than the first one although not as much as later in the series. I like both Eve and Roarke and I am ready for their relationship to feel like less of a soap opera. I like their relationship once it fully develops, I know that, but if I had started this series from the beginning I don’t know that I would be rooting as much or their relationship as I am. A high powered attorney gets her throat slit and when a second woman is murdered it is clear this killer targets powerful women. Eve is determined to figure out who the murderer even if she has to set herself up as the next target. I thought the mystery was pretty good and while I did see it coming the twist was nice.

Glory in Death by J.D. Robb

My Thoughts /

Glory in Death is the second book in what is, without doubt, a very long running series. Book 60 of the In Death series is due for publication 2025.

What I like about this series (and I know I'm only two books in) is that it's set in New York City in 2058, and considering, that the first book of the series was published in 1995, that was a refreshing change and adds an interesting twist. I admit to reading a hell of a lot of books set in ancient or early history, but there is nothing on my reading list of any substance that has a futuristic time outlook.

Written by Nora Roberts, under her pseudonym J.D. Robb, the In Death series features New York City Police and Security Department Detective, Lieutenant Eve Dallas, who, together with a core group of characters solve crimes on the streets of New York. In each of the (two) books I've read, the story is complete, ie. the story begins and ends in the same book - so, in theory, each book is a standalone and could be read out of order. However, the crime\mystery is only one element to the story. Character development is another, and it's this element of working\personal relationship development which will be affected if we read these indiscriminately. Those subtle nuances will be missed.

This was a cannonball read. Fast paced, Glory in Death has both the mystery and the romance angle bursting out of the starting gate and continuing right to the last page.

When Prosecuting Attorney Cicely Towers is found dead in an alley with her throat slashed, it's Lieutenant Eve Dallas who works the case as primary. For Dallas, the dead were her business. There's immediate pressure on Eve to solve this one quickly, as the victim was a close family friend of her commanding officer. However, as Dallas soon uncovers, there's no shortage of suspects for the PA's murder. Not long after Dallas begins her investigation, the body of another woman is uncovered, killed in the same manner as the PA. The killer, while careful not to leave any DNA or other identifying marks on scene, does leave clues - he takes personal items from his victim as trophies. In a rather risky move, Dallas sets herself up as a target, offering herself as bait, hoping the killer will strike again and this time, will be caught.

Running parallel to the crime is the Eve/Roarke romance thread. The Irish Billionaire remains steadfast in his support and love for his no-frills woman. It's a conflicting time for Roarke. On the one hand he respects her work and admires her toughness, but on the other hand, he wants to be caring and overprotective of his new love. There are sparks aplenty between the two as well as plenty of conflict! One thing I will mention, is that Eve and Roarke's relationship seems to have gone from zero to one thousand in one book. Considering there are 58 already published books in the series I would have thought that slow is the go. But apparently not.

I'll definitely give the next book a go, as I am enjoying the suspense element and crime solving, and the mysteries are cleverly plotted, and the characters are engaging and well written (especially Eve's friend Mavis - IYKYK).

I'm not sure where the author has the romance side of things going, but I'm here for the crime solving, most definitely.

He could do that to her, and for her, she realized. He could open little pockets of peace.

The second book in the In-Death series didn't disappoint. If the first one blew me away with its originality and characters (Roarke, anyone?), this second was a solid sequel. The only reason I gave it one star less was because of the case itself, which I found less interesting, especially because of Roarke's low involvement in it. Or, more properly, at first his involvement mirrored a lot the role he'd had during the first book's investigation, but it was clear it was just a way to cause some friction between the two character, a thing I highly appreciated. Their disagreements, fights, and then making up were very human and added a healthy dose of realism to their relationship.

Also, the fact that Eve was the first to cave in was a good thing IMO. Roarke is always very accomodating with her. He knows it's not easy for her to open up, to let someone in. So for Eve to admit that she needs him, that she wants to be with him was a huge step in their relationship.

I'm not going into detail as far as the mystery is concerned, but will only say that I loved how there were so many possible suspects and that, in the end, I hadn't expected the murdered to be who it was after all.

"It's always a pleasure watching you wake up," he commented. "But sometimes I wonder if you want me only for my coffee."
"Well..." She grinned at him and sipped again. "I really like the food, too. And the sex isn't bad."
"You seemed to tolerate it fairly well last night."

On the negative side, I would kill (pun unintended) for longer endings... an epilogue would be perfect. Although here the ending surprised me (in a series of 40+ books, I'd imagined things between the two MC would move not quite so fast), the mystery was the main focus.

Regarding the romance, always my favorite part, I simply adore how Roarke is the main pursuer in their relationship (it reminds me of Cat and Bones in the first books) and how willing he is to expose his vulnerability to her, sometimes only to be hurt or rejected. It takes a strong, confident man to do that.

"Don't play games with me, Roarke."
"Eve, it's my fondest wish to do just that."

I think this was my favorite scene in the whole book:
"It makes me feel like an idiot. This whole thing makes me feel like an idiot. So fine; I'll be an idiot. I'll move in here. I'll tolerate that insulting robot you call a butler. I'll wear diamonds. Just don't -- " She broke, covering her face as the sobs took over. "I can't take this anymore."
"Don't. For Christ's sake, don't cry."
"I'm just tired." She rocked herself for comfort. "I'm just tired, that's all."
"Call me names." He rose, shaken and more than a little terrified by the storm of weeping. "Throw something. Take a swing at me."
She jerked back when he reached for her. "Don't. I need a minute when I'm making a fool of myself."
Ignoring her, he gathered her close. She pulled back twice, was brought back firmly against him. Then, in a desperate move, her arms came around him, clutched. "Don't go away." She pressed her face to his shoulder. "Don't go away."
"I'm not going anywhere." Gently, he stroked her back, cradled her head. Was there anything more astounding or more frightening to a man, he wondered, than a strong woman in tears? "I've been right here all along. I love you, Eve, almost more than I can stand."
"I need you. I can't help it. I don't want to."
"I know." He eased back, tucking a hand under her chin to lift her face to his. "We're going to have to deal with it."

One last thing, even though the hot scenes aren't overly graphic, there was one in a oasis/swimming pool that had me fanning myself and then blush along with Roarke :) He's so damn cute!!!! I mean, read this:

"I missed you." She pressed her cheek to his and held him tightly. "I really missed you. I wore one of your shirts." She could laugh at herself now because he was here. She could smell him, touch him. "I actually went into your closet and stole one of your shirts -- one of the black silk ones you have dozens of. I put it on, then snuck out of the house like a thief so Summerset wouldn't catch me."
Absurdly touched, he nuzzled her neck. "At night, I'd play your transmissions over, just so I could look at you, hear your voice."
"Really?" She giggled, a rare sound from her. "God, Roarke, we've gotten so sappy."

I WANT TO MARRY YOU, ROARKE!!!!!

I'm going to use this review as an excuse to post more Gandy Candy.

Opening line: “The dead were her business.”

From that first line, I was sucked in. There is something about Robb’s writing that just sucks me in completely. I love the way she describes things. I love the way the words flow and I love that there’s this sense of detachment or coldness in the overall tone of her writing. It makes the mystery of the story that much more intriguing.

Eve Dallas is one of my favourite heroines. I love her strength and determination in her work. It’s admirable. Ironically enough, Eve Dallas lives and breathes death. It’s her job and Eve takes her duty seriously. So much so that she forgets to take care of herself.

In Glory in Death, Eve is the primary on another murder case, this time of a well-known woman in law who was caught off-guard with a slice to her throat. Lieutenant Dallas is on the case, doing her job to perfection. But when more deaths occur, Dallas is thinking that maybe the person she initially thought was committing the crimes isn’t the right person anymore. This causes her to retrace her steps and review the evidence. The suspense in this book is amazing, all the way to the end of the book. I can’t even choose which one I prefer between the first book or this one! Both are great!

And then there’s Eve’s relationship with Roarke. There are some rough tides between the lovebirds in this one, but in the end, Roarke is still as loyal as can be. I want to marry Roarke! Even when he’s angry, he manages to turn me on. There’s nothing about this guy that isn’t sexy. Simply put, Roarke is a dream. And I want him bad.

I loved that Eve let herself feel in this one. She’s so preoccupied with her work life that she doesn’t take time for herself. In this one, she does. She spends some quality time with Mavis, her awesome best friend and of course, Roarke, who does the most sweetest things for her. I’m incredibly jealous. Would it be creepy to say I wish I was Eve Dallas?

I can’t wait to read the next one! I wonder why it took me so long to read this series. Obviously, I was missing out. And if you haven’t read this either, then make sure you pick this one up soon!

This is the second installment in JD Robb's (alias for Nora Roberts) In Death futuristic romantic suspense series, and I enjoyed it! The relationship between Eve Dallas and Roarke is further explored with some angst involved as Rourke admitted he was in love with Eve, but Eve is not ready to say it back to him and truly commit. The case involves the gruesome murders of high profile, high exposure women, and Eve soon discovers that the first woman killed has business ties to Roarke, which initially complicates things for her again in the investigation.

I liked this book, and it definitely kept my attention throughout. I did figure out who did it before the main character, so it was a little frustrating (it seemed pretty clear to me who it was). And maybe because I am reading this in 2019 (the book was published in 1995), the futuristic angle seems unnecessary to the story, but those are my only criticisms as the author continues to deliver a consistently good story regardless of genre.

Plot --- 4/5
Main Characters --- 4.5/5
Supporting Cast --- 4/5
Steam Level* --- 3/5
Violence --- nothing graphic
Language --- not egregious
POV --- 3rd

*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild; 2/5 - sensual but nothing descriptive; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere; 4/5 - yes please! ; 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all

The murder of prominent DA Cicely Towers in the wet darkness of a cold night started Lieutenant Eve Dallas on a case involving high profile women and brutal murder. Her immediate appointment as primary by her commander kept the pressure on – Eve’s assistance by fellow officer Feeney a boon. But there was another murder too soon and before they had any suspects. Could Eve crack this high profile case before more women were murdered? Was she in danger herself as another woman in the limelight?

Glory in Death by J.D. Robb is brilliant! I loved it the first time – I loved it this time! Eve’s fledgling relationship with Roarke is up and down as she copes with her feelings, while Peabody is introduced to the series as an Officer who stands out and does her job, causing Eve to notice her diligence. I loved it and highly recommend the series!

Cinayeti çözemedim diye artık Eve’i seviyorum, sempati duyuyorum sanılmasın.

Öyle dinlenmeye can kurban, okuyan anladı. 😜 Bir de son 2 sayfada öldürdü beni. Cidden romantik bir serseri, sürprizlerin adamı kendisini. 😍😍

Doing a slow reread of this series.

*****
I loved this second installment. Excellent mystery and building on secondary characters.

Eve has such a huge personal breakthrough in this one. She’s still not completely able to let all her walls down with Roarke, but he pushes her as no one else ever has.

“Was it ever...” She winced, wished she could muffle the need to ask.

“No.” He touched his lips to her brow, her nose, the dip in her chin. “It was never, with no one else.”

Reread 09/24/2023 and this is definitely a 5 star read all the way. Loved the ending.
*************
4+++ stars.🌟🌟🌟🌟
This is an amazing and addictive series.
Eve is rapidly becoming one of my all time favorite heroines. She has me enamored with her tough, take no prisoners attitude and I especially love all her snarky comments.
She is strong and determined, with a fierce dedication to her job as a police Lieutenant . She isn't afraid to put her life on the line in her job but she still struggles to find that same balance in her personal life with Roarke.
Roarke, however is much more confident in the emotional department and knows exactly what he wants from Eve.
I am really starting to adore these characters and also J D Robb's mysteries. They are highly engaging and the stories are well thought out.
These books are like candy to me, such sweet pleasures. I am smitten. 🍬🍨🍬🍨🍬🍨🍬🍨

As always it was a great book. I even enjoyed that Roarke broke down Eve's walls, well at least one of them. They make such a great pair and the ending was also a great surprise as always.
Well written and great mystery.

Re-read- Feb.28,2019
I enjoyed this the second time around because I didn't remember certain things like the small things you tend to over look do to the fact that you are wondering who the killer is. There were some details about each person that you pick up in each of the books so I can't wait to get to the next and see what else I find out. Still love Roarke and some of his ways of getting through to Eve but I have to say Mira is also good with Eve as well. She understands her and empathizes with what is going through but won't push her which makes Mira a good person and friend, eventually.

The dead were her business. She lived with them, worked with them, studied them. She dreamed of them. And because that didn’t seem to be enough, in some deep, secret chamber of her heart, she mourned for them.

Glory in Death takes place a few months after the previous book. Murder never stops and Lieutenant Eve Dallas finds herself once again in a high-profile case when a well-known woman is murdered. And when another successful and famous woman is murdered, Eve works quickly to find connections and a list of suspects. And this is where things get complicated because once again Roarke, the man Eve has been seeing for a few months now and who is demanding more than she’s willing to risk, name keeps turning up.

For Eve nothing is more important than getting justice for the victims and stopping the killer who seems to be targeting only strong and successful women. But the closer Eve gets in her investigation, the higher the possibility she would be the next target.

He had whittled away at her until she’d given him more. Enough more to frighten her at odd moments — frighten her because she knew he wouldn’t be satisfied until he had all.
If she gave him all, then lost him, would she be in shreds?

I adore Eve and she remains my all-time favorite character. I love how tenacious she is about getting justice, not caring about politics or the toes she steps on to get the job done. She has so much smarts and heart and when it comes to Roarke and her painful past, she is very vulnerable.

He could curse her for bringing him so low he was nearly ready to beg for whatever scraps of her life she was willing to share with him.
And if he begged, if he settled, he would probably grow to hate her almost as much as he would hate himself.

I love the sexy Roarke and the main reason for that is how much he loves Eve. I also love how he continues to be helpful to her in her cases, his more criminal past makes him perfect for getting short-cuts to help her ;-)

“I love you, Eve, almost more than I can stand.”

I love how emotional their relationship is, how much they love each other and the different effect it has on them. Roarke has no problem admitting his feelings, he wants all of Eve but she is so scared of admitting how she really feels about him, fearing he would leave her and she would be nothing, so she tries to keep a part of her from him and Roarke being the bossy alpha he is refuses to accept it any more. And this causes some excellent angst in their relationship, which I enjoyed immensely!

The murder plot was very intriguing and suspenseful especially since Eve and Roarke was so very much in the middle of it and with Eve trying to get the killer and angering a lot of people, it was also VERY entertaining!

I am so in love with this series and I’m very glad that there are still so many books to read. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense then this is a must read.

For a man who had been wary of cops all of his life, it was staggering to know his happiness now depended on one.

Suspense – 4.5 stars / Romance 2.5 stars

Still can’t believe this book was written 22 years ago!
The author and her heroine have brilliant mind. Brilliant!

As to the romance - I still didn’t like Roarke. Their conflict, above all his behaviour, at the beginning was childish. And I found some of h’s actions regarding the H a bit weak.
But I don’t give up hope to like him better.
And if not, I’ll still enjoy the hell out of crime suspense!

And the LOVE continues! Glory in Death was fantastic. I even enjoyed it just a little bit more which was such a great feeling. It was a combination of things that made it a little better……..

❤ The chemistry between Eve and Roark is explosive. I savored every single moment they were together. I love that he calls her darling.

❤ The side characters Feeney, Mavis, Commander Whitney and Summerset continue to shine. Summerset is a bit of a mystery to me though. I’m looking forward his back story.

❤ J.D. Robb continues to write a strong storyline and the mystery around the murders was gripping.

I hope with each book that J.D. takes her time with developing Eve and Roarke separately and together. From what we have gotten so far we know that they both have a past that was ugly and pained. They connect on a level that may strengthen their relationship or make things messy.

I was thinking while reading this one that I wish I had a bit of Eve in me. She continues to be tough, gutsy and smart. I love reading her character in action. There was a part in the book where she had to dress up which is not an Eve thing but she rocked it of course.

My heart continues to flutter when Roarke is on the page. He continues to gently love Eve as he waits for the perfect or maybe less than perfect moment to let her know exactly how much she means to him. There continues to be a tug of control between the two of them but as Eve leans on Roarke for help with her case her control starts to slip.

I’m already on to book #3 and I’m loving it. What a great series!!

This is one of my favorite series ever!!! I probably pull these out every year to reread. It's like meeting with good friends. This book we meet the indomitable Peabody. Love her! And, even though the library in Roarke's house has already made us in love with it, we find the amazing pool. Wow!

Reread March 2018- These books are always on my reread list. In this book we have Eve trying to come to terms with the unbelievable rich and hot Roarke and his love for her. Every time I read their temporary break up it still makes my heart hurt. She is also forced to confront her commander’s anger while trying to find a killer. “Too much emotion.” The new Chief says, and this book is definitely chocked full of it.

I have a good time with these books, mainly cause of the guy women adore and men wish they could be.....

GALAHAD is totally my hero! Even Roarke obeys his whims and Eve melted in two seconds flat.

He definitely needs more page time tho.

Science Fiction for people who don't like Science Fiction!

Glory in Death is the second book in J.D. Robb’s wildly popular, futuristic, In Death series, and just like the first book, it’s an exciting, gritty, thrilling read.

The Story -

Two prominent women and a third ‘accidental’ have been found with their throats slashed, and as primary on the case, Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas has her hands full. With the list of suspects rising along with the death count, Eve is mentally and emotionally pushed to her limits, and so is her relationship with Roarke.

My Thoughts -

Honestly, even though I’ve listened to my daughter rave about these stories, and despite the number of 4 and 5 star reviews on Goodreads, I just never felt the urge to read this series. But thankfully I stumbled upon the audio version of Naked in Death at my public library and now I’m hooked!

Glory in Death is an intriguing murder mystery filled with twists and turns and suspects and probable causes… plenty of possibilities to keep me guessing – even though I had a fairly good idea, I wasn’t certain – as to the identity of the murderer. And the budding romance between Roarke and Eve is done so well that even though it’s frustrating at times, it’s also what I’d expect from these two, strong willed people.

The series is set in the future, mid 21st century. Since I’m not a fan of Science Fiction, I was worried about how well I’d like these books. Fortunately, while they’re futuristic, they’re not at all overly Science Fiction, and I think people who aren’t usually fans of the genre will enjoy these. In fact, if you're familiar with Stephenie Meyer's The Host, I'd say this series is even less SciFi than that.

Now, a bit about the audio. Susan Ericksen is just so, so talented! She gives these characters such distinctive voices that it’s as though she’s breathed life into them. She gives them the level of passion, fear, sorrow, hope... all the emotions become so much more vivid. They truly do start to feel like real people, and that’s exactly how I love my audio ‘reads.’

Overall, Glory in Death is fast paced, exciting, passionate, and even romantic in a two-steps-forward, one-step-back sort of way, and I loved every minute of it!

I'm so happy I have found another series this good. I must admit I wasn't expecting to like it this much. What makes me the most happy person on Earth is that I heard every book in this series is as good as this first 2 and as there are 30 more of them still to read I will be extremely entertained for quite a while.

For what I have read and been told, every book in this series solves a different crime while Eve's and Roarke's relationship develops. I must say that this too have become one of my all time fav couples. I love to read a series with the same couple because it makes it look more real and you get to know them so well it feels like you're reading about somebody you know. Eve is an amazing character, she's strong and with such high values that she makes you wanna be a better person, lol. Roarke is this hot alpha who wont take sh*t from no one.HAWT. And they are so good for each other.

What I love the most about this series is the mystery. I love to resolve the crimes at the same time Eve does, to suspect and imagine who the killer is and why. I love it!
And so far I must say that there wasn't even once I knew who the killer would be, even though I think I suspected a bit, lol. And what it's amazing about the series as well is that it is possible to get some romance without it getting between the crimes. You can have both and still feel everything is developing smoothly.

This series is terrific. I definitely recommend it to everybody. Almost not paranormal at all. The only fiction in it is that it is suppose to be set in the future but most of the time you don't even remember that. So don't let this make you reconsider if to read it. I promise you'll love this series. Also don't let the fact that there are 30 books in the series be a turn down. Because as there are no cliff hangers it wont bother you at all.

I know this is first and foremost a murder mystery series but I can't stop thinking about Roarke. Let me get those pesky details out of the way and then commence the gushing, mnkay?

So the opening scene is once again Eve being called to the scene of a grisly murder. The chick's throat is slashed....blah blah....suspect must hate women...blah...Eve is super duper intuitive...blah, blah blah blah...lots of rich society people.....blah...reporters, policemen and detectives.

There! Necessary info out of the way. On to the REAL story...

ROARKE! (No last name necessary or even given.)

Amidst the current craze of billionaire playboy BDSM Master alpha men sits this little talked about, perfection personified, wet dream of a man. He needs no flash or pomp. His studious nature and calm, controlled demeanor make him one of the most stable and self assured male characters I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. In book one, he is intrigued by Eve. She's delicate without seeming so, and while the world sees a tough bitch detective, Roarke sees the woman beneath.

What woman wouldn't fall in love with him right then and there? Panties. Gone.

All of these wannabe mind reading alphas need to take lessons from Roarke. He doesn't spend his energy convincing his woman that he knows her soul, he proves it to her in countless ways, in mundane acts, in thoughtless nuances. It's not an obvious obsession but a lasting love that he exhibits. He secretly keeps a button that fell off her ugly suit jacket as a romantic memento. And he lets her live her life as the same Eve as before Roarke, only now she is a protected, loved, secure Eve. Better than before because she knows that he's there for her.

What a hero! What a man!
